Jag is what got me hooked on your channel so JAG hands down (YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE A JAG IN YOUR FISH ROOM) That was your statement And I got a jag just because of you and I love them 👊👊👊
Scott Jaguars are my favorite also but as far as submitting for a show I believe your Cuban is in better show shape and has a very nice blue sheen to him. I also would be concerned with stressing out your older Jag moving him around for the show since he is older. I do like large male Jags more though. Not many has seen the Cuban up close and your video shows the great freckling on his face which I never paid attention to before.
@@ScottMclaughlinJ Jags because I've never eaten Cubans, not that I think I'm missing anything. Jaguars aren't bad eating but not something you'll ever see on a fine restaurant's menu. Dovii, now that's some f ckn good eating! Only problem is they're not easy to come by.. I ate my brother's dovii when he went out of town. Pan fried that bastard and wished he would get another one. When I did the same to his jaguar, I got kicked out of the house.
The Jag all day long, but thats an easy one for me, i had them in my childhood. Very strong, once i found the couple in the dry sand in the morning, due a leek in the tank. I picked them up, did both of them in a bucket of water and the both survived.
I think for me large mouth bass. They got alot of action. (Topwater action.) They are big.. I had one but over grown so I released it. I trained mine to eat cichlids pallets. And also I treat it with lives food once in a while.
That Jaguar is gorgeous but the Cuban is SEXY. After seeing yours when you got it I changed my mind from getting a Jaguar and was able to scoop up a pair of Cubans. Hopefully my male will look that SEXY soon. #CUBANFORTHEWIN!
Even though i really love your Jag's I have to say the deportment with that cuban is off the hook... I tried really hard to find a flaw in both fish and couldn't really find one.. I know where you got that cuban I was there when you did.. Personally I like the Jaguar more but if I were to judge the Cuban has a better chance I think...Very hard decision both are excellent specimens!!
My Cuban Pair wont stop breeding. I put some Dino Birchirs in to stop them, till I find homes for my Cuban Cichlid Fry I already have. And the Cuban is my Favourite Cichlid, good video.
Thats close, I would still go Jags. I've been keeping them since 1997. It was my first big mean cichlid. That Cuban is on fire 🔥 though, for sure one of the best males I've ever seen.
Hmm, a tough question. So close for me as love both the fish but I’d have to go slightly more with your Cuban. A beautifully clean and healthy looking fish there! Love the colouration! Stay safe K & Q!
Normally I'd side with the parachromis, but you didn't pick the pretty parachromis friedrichsthalli! Gotta go Cuban if I'm picking between Jag and Cuban. They are much brighter, with more contrast, and are more typical of the body shape that new world cichlids are known for.
Well I would say dovii, but that's not what you're asking. Generally speaking I more interested in the jag, but out of the two fish you've shown, I think the cuban might have more show appeal. So that's what I would go with.
@@ScottMclaughlinJ THAT ONES NOT FAIR BUT HERE GO'S. THE CHANCHO IS A PROVEN ROCK STAR BUT HE IS GETTING UP THERE IN AGE AND SOME FISH AS THEY GET OLDER START TO DULL IN COLOR AND THERE FINS BEGIN TO FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD CRINKLE SOME AND WHILE I DO BELIVE THE CHANCHO GOT SOME MORE SHOWS IN HIM THAT HE COULD PROBABLY WIN. HIS TIME IS ON TOP IS UNCERTAIN. THE CUBAN MAY NOT BE 100% NOW BUT WILL SOON BE AND WHEN HE IS HE WILL BE A TOP COMPETITOR FOR A LONG TIME. SO IF I HAD TO CHOOSE BASED ON COMPETITION IN THE FUTURE ONLY I WOULD SAY KEEP THE CUBAN. IF YOU WANT I COULD TAKE TAKE THAT OLD DESCRIBED CHANCHO OF YOUR HANDS
Liked this video Scott you mixed it up really nice. I love how you show your fish..Cubanos are gorgeous but Yo Amo mi PARACHROMIS!!! Jaguar Baby!!! Great stuff Scott
Uhhhh… Chocolate! No? Wolf… no? Dovi??? Anybody? Aw c’mon…😫 I’m a betta guy… (don’t judge me)🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ Alright… Cuban!😓 (throws a pleco at the jaguar)
Jag baby, all day. One thing people who don't have them don't know is how different they can look from day to day, hour to hour. One minute black and white like that Cuban and hours later very dark with purple, gold, metallic hues.
That's a tough choice. Those are two beautiful fish. I'd have to with the Jaguar only because I had one when I was younger. They are so much fun to own and care for, and I absolutely agree they are -not- community fish.
I'd go with Jag just for the shape and colour but I don't know the judging criteria for competition shows. If its anything like dogs it'll be the best "shape" and colour for the species. I have no experience of Cubans but I've had Jags for almost 30 yrs and your pair look perfect to me. Yeah, to me but I'm not a show judge.
I know this is an old video. But from what I have been told. If the top dorsal fin on the Cuban is black like the the one you have then it is most likely a female. If that specific fish was raised without a male around then they will adapt certain male traits and coloration. Could be why it’s killing other females and not mating. Then again I could be completely wrong.
It really depends on the individual fish for me. If I were to take the average jag and put it against the average cuban, the cuban would win out, but a really nice jag, like big fish lad's old Mr.Wimpy would take the cake.
The jaguar wins hands down. My 2 spawned for the first time yesterday and i saw the breeding coulers of them and they are beautiful and such awesome fish
Last time I posted (I guess because of my age) I confused the Cuban cichlid, Nandopsis tetracanthus with the Haitian cichlid, Odo, Black Nasty, Nandopsis haitiensis. But all the changes in Antilles cichlids eliminating Nandopsis vomberg and the Central American cichlids eliminating Parachromis loisellei. That Parachromis friedrichstalii was wrongly identified as Parachromis loisellei. So now the fish wrongly Parachromis friedrichstalii should mean that now should be Parachromis multifasciatus. The shouldnot the common name "Yellowjacket guapote" and habits apply to P. multifasciatus? Also have you tried separating male from female Cuban cichlid with a divider that would allow female either to escape or only allowed sperm get to eggs?
Being a fellow parachromis keeper my vote will go for that male managuense Scott. I'm too having a 14" beautiful male managuense so that's gonna be my personal pick 😅
Hello. Both fish are equally beautiful. You can't say that jaguar chiclid is more beautiful than Cuban cichlid, or vice versa. Personally, I think that size matters, it makes a fish look spectacular, you look spectacular than another, but you make me small. It is a personal opinion, it keeps clear of preferences and taste in the end.
@@ScottMclaughlinJ I personally would choose jaguar chichlid for the competition, because it is a massive fish, which requires a spectacular presence, it impresses me a lot. But I repeat, I am not saying that it is the choice that will surely make you a winner in the competition. Managuensis because it has been around as long as me lol!
