Bacall should have won the Oscar for her role as the Mother in the otherwise undistinguished Streisand film,"The Mirror Has Two Faces". When Juliette Binoche won for "The English Patient" even she was surprised. While it was appropriate that Bacall was recognized for her career achievements and given an Honorary Oscar, the presentation should have been made during the Oscar ceremony itself. The recently introduced concept of relegating the Governor's Awards to a separate, less important presentation is insulting and stupid, particularly in light of the colossal amounts of time wasted during the 3 and a half hour ceremony containing poorly produced, half assed "tributes" to the James Bond movies [ a great idea that was horribly done-no Bond stars or actors present ] or inane musical numbers.Bacall was a superb actress and a compelling author who richly deserved this accolade.
Apropos of nothing, Anjelica should have been nominated or won for her role in John Huston’s “The Dead.” Throughout the whole movie, she’s basically in the background, and you wonder why she’s in the film. At the end, however, she delivers one of the screen’s most poignant and heartrending monologues I’ve ever seen.
Not enought comments here for one of are great stars Lauren Bacall had to move the needle little bit more love her in written in wind with the dashing rock Hudson and many more . 4:43
It's interesting that Anjelica changed her story for her memoirs. In her book she states that it was Hepburn who asked, "For God's sake, John, what is it?"
I also heard her say that in one other interview...probably for one of her books, that it was Hepburn, unless she just got the names mixed up. I’d seen her mix up something else, but cannot now remember what that was.
