    This is the best quality I've ever seen the most iconic episode of the show in.
    I always count both parts as one episode, BTW.

    Peter: We're going to have BIG BUCKS today, I can feel it.
    Peter had no idea how right he was!

    1:22 "We're gonna have big bucks today! I can feel it!" Yeah, no kidding!
    2:37 "Hopefully you won't OD on money!" Well, that warning's about to go unheeded. Larson's here to kick the whammy's ass and eat ice cream, and he's all out of ice cream!

    Michael almost blew it when Peter said "You haven't lost a spin yet," and he says "no i ain't ever losing 'em."

      That almost makes me wonder if the Kauai hit really was accidental. Similarly, was the Pick a Corner hit - he has the extra spin option, but chooses not to take it.

    Peter: "Hopefully you won't OD on money, Michael..."
    Another ominous statement...

    This episode was supposed to be memorable for it being the final day of the 1984 Home Player Spin contest Press Your Luck was doing. It ended up being memorable all right, but for completely different reasons.

    And I believe this is when the show peaked in popularity. From this point in the run, up until around the fall of 1985, just before the timeslot change.

    Took a much closer look at Larson's spins (18 of what would become 45 in total happen here)...
    He hits THE pattern (ending in #4) three times: Spins 2, 3, and 5...actually misses it on Spin 14...
    He hits the side target (#8) 6 times: Spins 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 17
    He hits the #4 bouncing off #7 three times: Spins 4, 13, 18
    He hits the #4 from some other space on Spin 16
    He hits off space on Spins 1, 7, 10, 14, 15

    Something else not previously noted: Janie joins a growing list of players who managed to hit as many as 4 prizes in just Round 1. (All told, she hit more prizes in general than most players did in this game, but that's beside the point.) The other two, so far, are Tony from Episode 146 (BARELY lost that game to Laurie) and Pat from just a few days before this (also the game she lost, to Vicki).

    The craziest moment in Round 1 was definitely when $1,250 was hit 3 times in a row.

    "Well hopefully you won't O.D. on money, Michael." Was it just a crazy coincidence Peter asked that?? He sure was in for a surprise.......

    Oh, and anyone else notice that during the intro, both $3000 + One Spin and $1250 are sticking? 😂

      @@cooldude2255 During the intro where the voiceover says "it's time to Press Your Luck", the squares start flashing with different prices. But on the top row, the second and fourth squares are fixed on one prize each (the $1250 and $300+Spin).

      +RandomTube (Matthew Ragosta) Actually the next box would've been the $3-5,000 + Spin, but you're not wrong, the box below was one he was constantly hitting but for that specific pattern, it would've been space #4.

    Actually, we've seen two Whammies today. The first being the one that Michael hit on his first spin, and the second being Michael himself.

    By the way, the cumulative total for the first Home Player sweepstakes: $34,150.

  • @cowscrazy
    @cowscrazy 7 лет назад +3

    All that money and the home player only got $1000... couldn't hit that $5000 for him lol

    • @michaelj.kerkau1625
      @michaelj.kerkau1625 5 лет назад

      Eh. Down a bit from several of the Home Player spins in the second half of the sweepstakes, but those started out with more of a whimper, so $1000 isn't really bad all things considered.

  • @cowscrazy
    @cowscrazy 7 лет назад +3

    Do they encourage people to yell and talk and say no whammies? Cause it almost felt like Peter was put off that Larson was so quiet... saying he would yell stop for us anytime ...

    • @michaelj.kerkau1625
      @michaelj.kerkau1625 5 лет назад +1

      They probably did, but that was probably just Peter cracking a joke.

    • @PYLrulz1984
      @PYLrulz1984 5 лет назад

      Probably, but also consider even up to the beginning of 1984, there were silent players who didn’t say much other than “Stop!”, and there were even a few that still were mostly silent, so that part wouldn’t have been totally out of the ordinary, if something that was becoming less and less common from the contestants.

    Yes I most certainly will.

    At 16:01 Michael had $21,086 and he was showing hesitation to play or pass, cause he knew if he exceeded $25,000, he couldn’t come back the next show. Sure enough, his next spin put him past that limit.

    If Michael had only won two spins in the 2nd round, he would've been done after the Sailboat. He would've gotten the Kauai trip, and been down to 1 spin, and when he got Pick a Corner, he would've selected $1,000+1 Spin to not lose it, and then after the Sailboat he would've been finished. But then again, if Ed or Janie had opted to pass a spin...

    After what happened I'm sure Janie didn't want to be last, as Peter says :)

    • @michaelj.kerkau1625
      @michaelj.kerkau1625 5 лет назад

      This is, obviously, the most extreme example, but yes, going last was often not the big advantage it was cracked up to be.
      Then again, having a spin breakdown of 2-7-3 going into the big round sure helped matters too.

  • @cowscrazy

    The first time he talks like everyone else and then he does it less and then none at all. Full focus.
    Round 1 ends and everything looks normal. You couldn't tell something fucked up is about to happen.
