  • I finally do a cold start on my '55 Chevy Historical Gasser after sitting for nearly 4 years. The car is a Hilborn Injected 301" Small Block Chevy and held many NHRA National Records from when it ran competitively from 1959 through 1964 in D/Gas and E/Gas. Follow along as we get it ready to fire up, run the car and make plans for 2023! Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you would like to follow this historical '55 Chevy Gasser.

    That thing sounds AWESOME. I love the injection. That's the icing on the cake in my opinion. Reminds me of my uncles 55 2 door post gasser with open fenderwell headers. I remember him saying it had a truck straight axle with 54 Chevy car hubs. I've wanted to build a gasser 55 for about 15 years. May do that in the future

    • @hubiesgarage

      Thanks HAFF RODS! Hilborns were a way of life for these So. Cal Gassers back in the day with Stuart Hilborn having his original shop here in Orange County. Even my Dad's '55 Gasser that I am going to re-create with the Delray had a Hilborn Injectors. If I remember right, Oklahoma had some terror gassers out there too, maybe one was your Uncle's. It would be great to see a picture of it or use it as inspiration for you to re-create it down the road. The fun for menhas been doing the research and searching for correct parts. The pictures of my Dad's gasser inspired me to build a street/strip version of his car. Using that '54 truck axle and switching to passenger car hubs on your Uncle's gasser was a great idea! This gasser actually had a 6 lug chevy truck rear axle with 6.14 gears and 16×10 wheels. I switched out alot of older parts on the car before I knew the history of it. The truck rear was given away to a buddy and I put a 9.3 '57 Pontiac rear end in it. I wished I had left the car alone as it was a total time capsule! Thanks for watching and the great comments. Take care and I hope your wife is feeling better!

      Thanks Chris! It has been pretty frustrating because I got this car in '91 and had plans to paint/letter it back to when it held the records in '63 as far back as '93. I finally had the money to do it last year and try to go to Nitro Revival with the Outlaw Gasers of So. Cal but, the painters weren't ready to take it. Now, running into same issue where I have 3 very reputable guys that I would be proud to have their work on the car but, the timing is still bad. So, I'm going to drag it out and run it at 3 or 4 events in 2023 as is. It will make great content with video at the drags. If I get a second camera, I can do in car camera stuff....we'll see. Thanks for watching and I hope you guys are keeping warm!

      Thanks Tony! I will look up the posts on your Willys! The Willys Coupe is a big favorite of mine! To me, it is the most classic gasser body of all time, then the '55. I had a good buddy who had a famous A/GS '41 pick up that was orange called "The Energizer". He had 2 trucks and 2 coupes. I rode in the Energizer and half throttle was instant tire smoke...yeah, I am a believer! He was the driver of my gasser when they set the national speed record at Half Moon Bay in '63. He helped my Dad and I put this gasser back together and passed about 2 years ago. I look forward to seeing your Willys! Take care and have a good one!

    The long saga on how to tighten down a battery?

    • @hubiesgarage
      @hubiesgarage  Год назад +2

      Good point! Yes, I find myself fast forwarding past that long part too! This is the dilema of many youtube channels. It is part of the learning process of editing, running your own youtube channel and figuring out what works. Unfortunately, it takes 4,000 watch hours to qualify to getting monetized on YT (as well as 1k subscribers) and it is tough to find a balance of meeting those hours and posting "filler" that is actually interesting. Monetization is not a priority for me on my channel but, as I reach the threshold, it's an accomplishment and a box to check off. I encourage everyone to give it a try! Thanks for hanging in there and watching, it is greatly appreciated!

      Good eye! The guys were sponsored by Howard Johansen at Howard's Cams and he was always giving them cams to test out. They eventually got sucked into the cam wars and went east every year to Indy with about 10 other So Cal race teams (including Stone, Woods and Cook) to defend their records and prove who had the winningest cams. I heard Ed Iskenderian state that this was started by an ad from his advertising company in the late 50's and it grew like a brush fire. He said he sure sold a lot of cams!
