- I show you step by step how to clean your Mini Split AC (Mitsubishi). I use a mini pressure washer for cleaning air conditioners (Port-A-Blaster). I am very happy so far with how much easier it was to clean my AC.
Thank you very much for watching and God bless.

I’m a 67 year old woman and after watching your video I decided to give it a try after getting all the supplies you recommended and…….”I DID IT!!!” It was a bit harder because Lennox has zero help on line 🤬 and getting the cover off was somewhat difficult. Lennox’s wheel does not come out (some things to think about when deciding which brand to install in the first place) so I had to spray with the wheel in place and wow was that wheel super filthy!! There was also some mold on the cover and now it smells clean and lemony (I used lemon Simple Green). I also discovered that the installer did not stick any insulation or foam spray in the hole the wires and condensate tube go through. I have often thought I felt cold air coming in from up there on really cold nights. (No I’m not crazy there WAS!). So I’ll address that before reassembling. You are great and funny too. I feel SO good saving hundreds of dollars! I owe you a beer 🍺 Your doggo is a good boi and tell him I understand him missing mom and it’s OK. Thanks again Jim! 👏👏👏
Glad I could help you save some money. Thanks for watching
Home maintenance, the gift that never stops giving......things to do EVERY year.
You got that right it never ends thanks for watching
Both this and your other video are extremely helpful. I've used them to clean our Mitsubishi mini split twice so far. Appreciate your help.
thanks for watching my videos
Thank you thank you. I am a dog groomer with a mini split. Have paid so much to have it clean every 2 months 🙄. Today I did it mayself after watch your video 🎉🎉🎉
Glad I could save you some money. Thanks for watching
Did everything u said from equipment to cleaning. Worked like a charm. Paid for the equip just by doing the first service.
Glad I could help, thanks for watching
Great How To Do video Jim. Thank you for taking the time to do it.
I just had 2 of these units installed in my central Florida home.
Planning on doing the maintenance my self. You just made my work easier.
Glad I could help thanks for watching
Most definitely the best how to video I have seen for these Mitsubishi mini splits.
Thank you
Jim, from a Jim, thanks for a GREAT video. I installed my mini split system(s), myself, 3-yrs ago! No problems, except the annual cleaning! Or sooner!
Obviously, I’m buying your shirt, and the cleaning kit.
Thanks again, from Knoxville Tennessee.
Awesome thanks glad my video helped you out
Since you asked, checking in from Hawaii where we run our split AC all year long. Mahalo for the helpful videos!
I would love to take my wife to Hawaii some day it is beautiful there.
I have to confess that I have never cleaned our indoor units. The one in the living room is nearly 10 years old and I recently noticed that is smells musty. I looked inside and woah... it's dirty! I called a company to come clean all 4 and was quoted $350 EACH!! I am going to buy the little pressure washer and the rest of the supplies and will clean all 4 for less than the cost to clean one.
Thank you so much for your video!
Glad I could save you some money. Thanks for watching
I was looking for camper levelers and copied your DIY ones, working good so far. Now here you are cleaning mini's, good info. Keep up the good work!
Glad to help
Interesting variation from your prior video. I may have to try this. I loved your prior video as I was able to follow it and clean all my units (same ones you have) and it went very well but you are right that taking out that blower wheel is a pain. By the way, looks like you DID clean it last year since that is when you posted the other video lol. Thanks again. You’ve saved me so much money between that prior video and also the outdoor unit cleaning video. I’ll buy you all the coffee or beers you want haha. Keep these videos coming and god bless. 👍
My other video I made with the air conditioner in my bedroom but I still could have cleaned it. Life gets crazy especially with two boys. Thanks for watching
@@DIYJIM I hear ya. I only have one kiddo right now but yeah it gets crazy…and finding the time to do these things can be quite challenging to say the least haha. Pays off though in the end I’d say.
Thanks DIY Jim. Helped alot in ref to cleaning ductless ac. Great job!
Welcome thanks for watching
Thank you Jim for the informative video. I just cleaned my unit and this video helped a lot. The two main challenges for me was removing the top clips on the cover and reinstalling the drip pan. That pan was a major pain to put back in
I hear ya after you do it a couple times, you will get better at it. Thanks for commenting on my video
Thanks Jim! Just cleaned our unit out using your suggestions. I can't believe we didn't all get Legionnaire's Disease from the thing, it was that bad. Our head unit also has the oscillating side-2-side vanes, so I had to remove both of those motors from the drip tray. I bought a Ryobi 18V portable power washer which did the trick really well without having to remove the blower cage. Used some vinegar in the water to clean the vanes after I let the foam work for a while. I also bought some of the pellets you suggested and cut them down to size to put in the drip tray.
Awesome glad I could help
Thanks mate, watched your video in Australia!! Can’t wait to get in and clean my aircons! Bless ya!
Thanks for watching
Super helpful Jim, thank you! I think I'll mimic this setup to clean my indoor mini split.
Welcome thanks for watching
Good reminder to check on mine. Thanks for the great tips as always.
Any time!
Thanks a lot for this video, I just finish clean my A/C is identical like the one you just clean. I think I will buy the portable pressure washer you used in the video. Thanks again. By the way I 'm in Puerto Rico.
I have never been to Porto Rico maybe someday. Thanks for watching
Honestly thank you for showing me how to disassemble it. I got my cover off easy but then i just kind of looked at the unit like okay what next lol. Had no idea the drain pain motor and louvers came off that easy. Thanks for the video man.
Your welcome
Thank you for your detailed explanation.
Welcome
Checking in from Southern California. Great video - thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you Jim for a clear and concise AC unit cleaning vid. I just had mine cleaned professionally for $400. They took the entire unit apart and had to release and refill the AC gas. A real hassle. I have ordered the water cover and the portable pump and next AC unit cleaning will be DIY.
Glad I could help thanks for watching.
O
That was not necessary, they can trap the refrigerant in the compressor before uninstalling it, there is a technique for that, it is not necessary to disassemble and uninstall it for maintenance either.
Thank you Jim! Quite explanatory.
Welcome thanks for watching
Great info JIM.. thank you
Your welcome my friend
Ahhh, easier way to go. Thanks Jim! Cousin Kim, in Connecticut ❤
Thanks for watching Kim hope all is well
You're awesome dude.!!! Thanks a bunch for this video. I bought all the right equipment online and Ill be doing the cleaning later this week before summer gets here!!! Cheers :)
Hope it goes well
Great video, watching fm Quebec, Canada. I will try this on my Fujitsu unit. Thanks
Let me know how it works for you, Thanks for watching
Very good complete information
Thanks
Thanks for sharing...great video.
Thank you
Thats the way to do it!!!! nice job!!
Thanks
Thank you 😊
Welcome thanks for watching
Thanks for showing how the drain pan connects to the main unit. I was quoted more than $400 to clean each one of my split units. I have ordered the anti-mold tabs and will be placing them in the drain pan to see if it makes a difference the next time I clean my systems. As a Florida resident, I would probably clean my units quarterly.
Thanks for watching
I was thinking of building a home with mini splits (8 would be needed). After watching this, I’ve decided to go with traditional ducted HVAC. 😂
Not a bad idea, only thing I think is nicer is I can run one if I want. I have one in my basement for heat when it is not really cold. Thanks for watching
@@DIYJIM I can have multizone (2 or 3) traditionally ducted HVAC with air handler in the attic. I think it’s easier and less costly to mainten even though it may cost a little more to do the ducting. I can’t imagine time and hassle of going through cleaning 8 mini splits twice a year risking falling off a ladder. Thanks for making me change my mind.
@@JohnLee-db9ztThink you are making a good decision I would just recommend that you spend a few hundred dollars more and buy the heat pump. Unless you live somewhere, you’ve never need heat.
@@DIYJIM👍
Nicely done.
Thanks
Great job, Thanks
Welcome, thanks for watching
Thanks!
Thank you very much for the $5 super thanks.
This IS how a DIY video should be made! Bravo Zulu.
Now I can get at all of those heat exchangers. The porta-a-blaster is the cat's meow. Brushing, vacuuming and compressed air leaves too much behind. Every bit of efficiency counts and makes a huge difference. Thank you for this enlightenment.
Hint for different models: try to find a model-specific video for removing the cover, then come back to this to proceed and finish with yours.
Thanks and thanks for watching
Thanks so much, this was really useful, we usually call someone to clean it for us, but your video saved me 50 USD.
Glad it helped
$50 Sounds like a good price but I've read some comments that talk about $400 that's crazy.
@@alexcumareyeah $50 I'd pay it lol

I love your video and that go Joey killed me lmao

Welcome
Great video. I've done a handful of these and for me the hardest parts are pulling the lid and figuring out how to drop the drain pan.
If I could make a suggestion, perhaps slow the roll of the wheel when you spray it. I believe you will clean it faster if you apply resistance to the spin.
Thanx and keep them coming.
Thanks for the advice and thanks for watching
I could understand you but the glare blinded the visual... Thanks anyhow, you did OK cause I'm def anyhow! Thank you with sincerity this time.
thank you for watching
Great video
Thanks! And thanks for watching
The put back baseball cap reduce blindness is awesome...lol
That for watching glad you like the humor
Oh, that paddle wheel.
I’ve been pulling mine out and using Dawn detergent on it and just cleaning it with the hose. Been coming out good, but what a pain.
I’m going to do it the hard way this spring, but I’m going to keep in mind this method, because I dread this task.
For the condensate drain, I usually run some diluted bleach down that to kill the flora.
I bought the Nu Calgon sprayer that you attach to a garden hose (I use Cal Green) to clean the condenser coils (outdoor unit).
Great video. 👍
PS I don’t know if you tried the tabs. I used them for my first year. Really did not find them to help much, but ymmv.
I only tried the tabs once. Thanks for watching
Nice. Tech tip, run it on heat for about 15 min when you're done to dry it all out internally if everything is still pretty wet inside there.
Good tip, thanks for watching
Jim great instruction. Have installed UV lights in your mini splits?
Never heard of that. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for watching
Great video. I wish you had my brands. Cannot get drip pan out of some.
I am in south florida.
The wheels get pretty gunkie. I was looking for a little power washer. One question, did you bend any fins?? Also video about a year old, is the blower still clean?
Thanks,
Martin
Definitely did not bend the fins. I really have not looked at my air conditioner to see if it is dirty but I’m sure it is due for a cleaning. Thanks for watching.Martin
Hi Jim, you're awesome bro great tut. My units are Mirage, would removing the drain plate be similar?
Sounds like that would work. I have seen people do this cleaning without removing their drain pan. Hope it works for you
Hi, thanks for the informative video, rather than using the tape. I noticed when opening mine, the wires on the Grau piece weave into a clip on the tan plastic piece.. that holds the part in place. Happy to email you a photo if that helps.
Thanks for watching I started cleaning mine another way.
Where can I buy all that stuff at
Never thought that cleaning one of them was such a disadvantage .
Thanks for watching, this is one of my least favorite jobs to do.
MAN I'M BUYING ONE OF THOSE PRESSURE WASHERS COOL.
I do like it seems to make it easier
Ordered on today as well as the apron cleaning kit thanks.
@@stevejoyce4485 hope you like it.
Hey Jim, thanks for video... Worked great for me. But my larger unit, 2400 inside handler, is still making loud fan noise after thorough cleaning. Is that the fan motor going? Thanks again
Really hard to tell without hearing it. Hope you can have someone look at it for you. Thanks for watching my video

Nice job sir..... Would you mind buying and installing a Mr Cool unit? My design is a little different to disassemble.... Thanks. Yours seems to have much easier access to the blower wheel.... That's the dirtiest part of mine.
I did make a video of installing a Mr cool AC. ruclips.net/video/aXMQm5PYWmg/видео.html Thanks for watching
Jim...Can I use my Greenworks 1800 PSI Pressure washer to do the same as the Port-A-Blaster? Not sure if it will suck up the clean hot water from the bucket. I don't want to damage the pump. The 2 units are very similar looking. I cleaned 2 units a year or 2 ago using your older video. and I am anxious to try the new method. I have 3 units to clean. Thank you for a great video.
I’m going to guess that is way too much pressure. That’s why I bought the pressure washer I used in this video. Thanks for watching my videos
New York. I have a Fujitsu is it typically the same process for different brands?I’ve been meaning to tackle this on my own.
Hope it goes good
I have the Mitsubishi AC, but I need to clean it every month. I used a Bosch Easy Aquatak 100, it does not bend the fins. Because I need to clean so often, I stopped taking out the cover, I only removed the louver and filter. The main thing is that there's another coil at the back, that you may have missed. I always started cleaning that coil first, the blower, and then the front coil. I also don't remove the drain pan, just feel with your fingers (carefully). Use the pressure washer on the drain hole, add some tablets after cleaning.
Thanks for the tip I might try that
Hi thanks for sharing. I am interested in the equipment you are using to clean. Is there a link?
In the description thanks for watching
What model power screwdriver do you use? I’m looking for one that’s light weight like yours
I really like the Milwaukee 12 V
Good video. Question, are you able to rinse your car with this?
If you would want to. You can spray what ever you want. I use a sun Joe for my car

We’ve got a low-wall mount unit, re: MFZ-KA18NA. Have you pulled one of these apart?
Sorry I have not
I’m buying the machine now. I followed your first video and removed and cleaned the blower. It was a pain. The machine will pay for itself the first time I clean all 5 units in my house. Thanks Jim!
That’s what I thought also. Hope you like the AC pressure washer
@@DIYJIM The machine is terrific. I cleaned all 5 wall units in very little time without having to remove the blower wheel in each. That’s a huge improvement!
Great video but please put some blank plates on your electrical panel, God Bless Patrick.
Agree I should have done that. Thanks for watching
Do you have a video on cleaning fujitsu mini splits?
Sorry I do not, I bet it is real similar. If you live near me I would do it for you and make another video. Thanks for watching
Hey Jim, thanks for the video. Would you say the porta blaster is worth getting if i intend on using it for side jobs?
Yes I like mine so far not sure how long it will last if I used it everyday. Some of the more professional ones are real expensive.
@@DIYJIM Thank you for response. After extensive research and feedback from more than one user i decided to go for it. It will be handy to clean both my split units. Thanks a bunch Jim. New sub by the way love your videos!

I found your video when I was looking for help to clean my Mitsubishi MSZ-GL24NA. I have the Port-a-blaster in my Amazon cart, but am having a little trouble finding a waterproof cover to fit my 43"L x 13"T x 10"D unit.
I really appreciate your step-by-step procedure and thank you for your effort in making it.
I can't find your video on the drain pan tablets. Did you ever get a chance to do one? I'm not sure WHERE you would put them, assuming that they work...
Here is the cleaning tabs ruclips.net/video/IOZ1dgcebxo/видео.html
Maybe the large size it says goes up to 53” the link is in my description or I think the first comment. Hope this helps.
@@DIYJIM Yes sir, thanks. I used the links on the video to set up my Amazon cart, BUT unless I misunderstood your meaning, I thought that IN the video you said that you didn't HAVE the tabs, but would order them and do a video about their use??
Thanks for taking the time to reply!
@@DIYJIM YES, you're right. I clicked the "large" button on Amazon, but my brain was apparently disengaged when I read the text. Thanks again!
I'm a little nervous about all of this, but $400 in MY pocket is way better than in the contractors pocket.
They suggest you moisten the bottom of the tab and put it far away from the hose.
Hey Jim. Still doing it this way with the Port-A-Blaster? Or have you further refined your approach for this since last year?
Still port a blaster
Hey Jim how is the Port-A-Blaster holding up? Thinking of getting it as I’d really love to shave down the time and effort involved in cleaning my Mitsubishi units
Sorry Mark I really can not tell you, I only used it twice. I only clean my units about twice a year. I just bought the port-a-blaster. It seems like it should last.
@@DIYJIM I get it, thanks. I recall in your other video you used a pump sprayer. I may go that route for now while I think on the port a blaster a bit more.
Hello, thanks for the video. Do you think the port a blaster would be able to clean mold off my coils? Last summer My Ac just started selling worse and worse. It would do the thing where it only smells bad when the AC kicks off and it heats up. I took it apart and cleaned it, and got a lot of gross stuff out, but just spraying the frost king foaming cleaner doesnt get anything out of the coils thats smelling bad. Post winter, I've turned my AC on and it hasn't smelled bad. but I can tell that its slowly starting to smell again. Whatever's in there that died over the winter is growing back. So now I'm doing tons of AC research cleaning research again lol... Thanks.
I definitely think it would help, one thing I really like is I can use good hot water to clean my ac along with the coil cleaner. Thanks for watching Elijah
Is this method to avoid taking out the roller fan, primarily? Agree, removing blower wheel sucks.
Yes that was my most least part. I like the little pressure washer I got plus I can use warm water. Thanks for watching
DIY JIM … people who have stair lifts , that need service, sure could use a diy from you .. thanks
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a stair lift? You can find my e-mail in my description if you want to send me a picture. Really not sure I can do it but maybe. Do you live near me in Pa?
If there is already mold in our unit do you still use Simply Green or do you recommend another product for mold remediation?
Just use what I showed in the video, it should be okay. Thanks for watching
No, use a proper coil cleaner
Jim..I am a senior lady who has one 9,000 btu and two 12,000 btu Mitsubishi like yours; what size blue cover should I buy and how thick are the support plates because I have a temp regulator mounted next to my ac and want to make sure there is enough room for the support plate to fit?
Also, I would like to try the pressure washer but let me ask you... if you could have used a water hose with a pressure nozzle would you have done that instead of purchasing the power washer or do you feel it would have been too much pressure? I can get hoses in my house... in your opinion which would be better?
You should be able to buy the one I bought in my video. I have a 1200btu also

If you had a central hvac system, the PM for the air handler would cost about $100. It would also be easy to troubleshoot, repair with common parts stocked on hvac service trucks.
Agree but when I had this put in my house it was going to be about $4000 more to put central AC in my house because I have no ductwork.
@@DIYJIM If you have an open floor plan, very well insulated home and less than 1000 sq ft, a mini split might work ok. If not, multiples are needed and you might as well have a central system that can be easily cleaned, repaired, has a 1 yr labor warranty and 10 yrs parts warranty. To each their own though. I'll never work on or help another diy'er. I tried to help three or four times and everytime it turns into a royal cluster f.
