I've been a builder for over 50 years in Michigan and Florida and I never seen such a horrible concrete pour. Those cracks kept me up all night thinking about them. Whoever poured that mess should refund you at least 50% or more of the cost. Your such a nice guy Derik, please do something about it and don't let them get away with it.
Brand new pour, and it's cracking that severely already? What's going to happen to it down the road?
All night?
You buggin
Lol.... get some sleep, the floor and the building will be fine
@@chrisschlesiger8493that's what happens to concrete when it dries too quickly. Doesn't mean it's going to continue cracking or get worse
Love how your always looking out to help other's, stuff for the crew, wood for the neighbor... You sir are what the world needs more of! 👊
You have a big problem Derek the boards that are nailed to the posts are not going to hold the roof up with any weight. There is nothing for wood supporting those boards from crashing down with the weight of snow or heavy rain. Poor construction choice here. I hope you tell these guys that is not acceptable in any way. This must be fixed or you will lose everything you have in the building. I am a construction guy I know what I am talking about. thru bolts will not cut it. Inspectors will fail this method all day long in Wisconsin. People need to tell him this message
Hard to fathom how much of a busy dude Derek is with all the projects. Hard work pays.

Hard work is good, but it doesn't always pay. Hard work in the right direction and a lot of luck are needed also.
I am sorry Derek but that work never would have been passed by the inspectors here in Wisconsin. They would have made the builder start over along with the concrete contractor. I hope you do not have problems
I've been doing dirt work for 25 years. It's so funny that you said you could watch dirt work all day because it's every child's dream. I tell people I dig holes and fill holes in for a living. Basically I never grew up but my Tonka toys did. Thank you for everything you do for the car community. I've been a fan of yours for 5 years and I never miss a video...🇺🇲🦅🇺🇸
I remember as a kid dad had a driveway built... huge dirt burm later and me as a 7 year old = best week ever. I couldn't wait to get home from school and get on that dirt mountain. we lived near a civil war battle site (battle of Richmond KY) and I actually found a lock mechanism for a rifle. yeah dad appropriated that. I think my uncle who's a history buff has it now.

Thank you Bieri family for everything you do to keep us all entertained.
Can't believe the huge cracks in slab already. That was quick! 😬
Mason's daughter here and yeah I cringed when I saw that..
Thought that was what the expansion joints are for...🤔
Not right shouldn't have done that something when way wrong there them are big I wouldn't have paid big dollar for that crap
I called it when I saw how thin they poured that mid section. sometimes saving a buck really screws a guy.
@@harlanmclain1719 Sounds harsh but I agree; Derek nip this issue in the bud!
Steel re-enforcement mesh would have helped.
Love the smell of fresh lumber on a building site❤
As a city slicker that is meant to be living in the country I am in absolute awe of a new barn build. 🤤

As someone who has worked concrete for a very long time,, I will lose sleep thinking about those cracks.
We had a rule in construction. Never fight a Drywall man or a Concrete man. They are strong.
I saw those and cringed bad Crete or poured incorrectly?
Yeah those cracks ain't right!
Makes me sick too. I've had slabs Crack it happens but that ain't acceptable
I have never seen new construction with cracks before. I only helped put up a few buildings and insulated a bunch. Is it going to be okay? Can it be repaired?
Really hoping for a move-in day video! Sure would be fun to watch all the stuff going in and getting moved 52,487 times before finding each thing's home.
i love what you and Jess are doing , a dream come true!
@ 6:02,
Feelings about the family barn, the way affection is shown to Jessica and the boys, tributes on some of the vehicles, the near end of the Model A vid where it says, if you’re still watching, my family and I Thank you. This with knowledge and humor
is why I watch Anything Derek does!
Love the way you jump in to tackle stuff for the crew ... good customer
Looking good!
I want to watch everything being moved in and arranged. I love that
The wood-eating insects in the south are something to be reckoned with, and I ain't kiddin' ya. The less ground-contact wood in your construction, the better. So good to see you are taking steps to get the vee-hickles out of the elements... perservin' on 'em a bit. Good job!
Ground Hogs destroyed my barn.
I agree with the bug issue, a cheap investment would be to call a bug guy to spay that would around the perimeter before they start hanging the metal sides!
Great looking building.
Out here in California you never let the wood touch the dirt I don't get these pole barns were they sink the wood down in the dirt
Awesome , so happy for you...👍♥️
Looking good Derek!
I'm from Ontario Canada so excuse my head scratching if it passes code down there, but take a look at your beam details and make sure it's correct. The beams are side mounted to the posts which is usually a no-no because your entire roof load is relying on the nails and bolts fastening the beam to the posts rather than the beam sitting on top of the posts.
Well, you did elect Turdhole, so there’s that
😂
Someone said they were notched?
There is nothing wrong with those beams. Structurally sound like that.
I loved watching my dad play in the dirt. He was a grader man and finish man. He had to have it perfect. It was a pleasure watching a master at his craft. He died in 2022, if give anything to see him on a dozer again.
Looking great!!
Hey! Derek! Hope your not snowed in to bad! Stay warm fella!
Nice to see some old fashioned stick framing. *I framed for around 15 years. I love seeing nice straight framing. It's beautiful IMHO. ✌❤
Glad to see life is Great! Nice video
Love the 231 Buick... A lot of Speed parts are available... Great Tear Down, And truthfully it's not Saturday without one...
I absolutely love this channel as much as the VGG Channel. Derek, you have an amazing ability to make anything entertaining. I also love the respect you give anybody and everybody. Also is amazing how you help with anything you can. Most people that are paying to have a job done, dont help the people doing the work. You, damn nesr are part of the crew...lol love it. I will continue to support you anyway I can and Have my upmost respect for you Sir!
That there is some fine dirt work. Coodos to the grade crew!
Building update! 👍
I'd fill those cracks and seal that concrete as soon as you can for sure!! Loving the project!!
Nicely done!
Great project, I’m really enjoying seeing the progress. There are three guaranteed things about concrete, it will crack, it won’t be stolen, and it costs more to get rid of it than to have it installed.
Love it. Great job Derek.
RUclips pays well with good Content... you for sure always have good Content.. you Deserve every Dime you earn.. Nice building.. thanks for taking us along on the building process..
Derek, I think the peak roof shape you're alluding to at around 18.39 is what we in New Zealand call a Dutch Barn or Gambril Roof. In Australia it's called a Lean to barn usually with a beer in hand. Cheers.
Other aspect is to install buried French Drains which are really buried rubble (which you have) where you can guide a water course away from the driveway to minimise MUDD
Love the new barn fella, what a beaut
I agree with the guys talking about the cracks on your concrete slab. I’m doing construction for 20 years and you haven’t had that poured that long. It should not crack that soon after they pour yes concrete, my crack, but it shouldn’t crack like that those look. structural I would check those before you start building. Easier to fix it now than there’s a building on top of it
Thank you Derek for the update on this massive SHED to keep your vehicles and tractors out of the weather. This is going to be so useful storing the cars and trucks that need to be out of the weather like the FIRETRUCK. This is an amazing channel and thanks for being here for us!
Call me old-fashioned but those wood structures just feel more pleasant than the typical steel structures. Those windows are going to be really helpful.
Derek you are so lucky, I dream of such a place to put my stuff. Looks great!
Good to see a young man. Make his way in life!
Recommendation for those cracks, expansion joints and pock marks from those support nails. Have the contractor, or you can do it it’s easy, put in a product like Sikaflex. It fills those areas yet stays flexible so it expands and contracts with temperature changes. It also keeps water from getting under your slab.
Or coming up through the cracks
SHOULD HAVE NEVER CRACKED THO. ID BE CONTACTING A LAWYER AND DEMAND A REFUND
Another good haul Kenny. Nice drone shots. You guys and that Case tractor do a great job getting back in there. Take care my friend!
I hear ya with the watching your childhood barn fall into disrepair. Every time I go back home I see the barns I labored hours in as a kid returning to the earth from whence they came 😢. Little did I realize how much significance those buildings had when I was younger.
I feel the comment about your childhood barn going away. Our farm barns and the old house are all gone now and I think about them all the time.
you have been a busy guy. Nice to see the new building growing. 2x👍
Very nice! Good call on the brown trim
Derek, Outstanding!
Oh my those cracks.. Love the building. thanks for sharing
Cool project. From Rusty Acres to Rusty Barn.
looks great derek, tennessee what a nice peace of property
Derek You are something else all this going on and still putting out some great content on VGG. That is a Man doing what He loves and having the support of a good Woman. God bless the hole Family.
Instead of gravel, use road milling You could usually get it fairly cheap sometimes even free. And my opinion works better than gravel.
Poor man’s asphalt.
Here we call it recycle
highly recommend rolling on some Black-Jack or Henry Damp-proofing on the backside of that concrete retaining wall.
That looks fantastic what a nice building
I got to say Derek their hasn't ever been a video you put out I haven't been entertained & enjoyed. Hope you have another great year my friend.
Congratulations on your creation. It's fun to hear your involvement and pride in the project. Thanks for sharing this.
That gravel that was left over is type 2 and it is great for anything
Big Blessings Derick and everyone!
I hope the concrete guys are watching this and coming up with a plan to repay you some & repair that shotty concrete work. If I were on that crew I’d be upset and telling the boss to make it right. It’ll only get worse as it ages. Derek, you’re a nice guy so don’t let them take advantage of you.
Yeah my jaw dropped when I saw those cracks, especially with the full structure bearing on the slab I would be worried about that being a problem, especially since the plates aren't embedded in the concrete
That is, by far, the worst concrete job l have ever seen !😢😢😢😢😢
Love how videos like these bring out all the RUclips Certified Builders.
🤣🤣🏆
But some of us really are .
@@user-ov9rj6ze7v
Drops the mic.... 😅
Really are what? RUclips Certified? LOL!
Lmao you realize that there are actually company owners and life long builders that watch videos like this right? Not saying everyone knows what they are talking about but it was very obvious in the pouring video that it wasnt done correctly. No way in hell should that have cracks in it already.
Looking great my friend
Looking good.
WOW RUclips channels make good money. I remember you doing your channel from a 1 bay garage. Boy thats a few years ago. You deserve it to Derek love your content thanks for all the years worth.
It's not RUclips. It's the many subscribers that built the new barn. Kinda like donations.
@@2nickles647 you just confirmed its RUclips channels that make the money
Im a little surprised about the cracking all over I would think they would haves used wire mesh lifted on "chairs" to keep it a few inches off the dirt to get the concrete all around it. Might have stopped that cracking some and also a vibrater along the sides to fill voids. Once you start putting cars in there with their weight might crack more. I wonder if the concrete was the right mix and strength and when the cold hits it might crack more.
There's no mesh or rebar in the slab at all.
-Probably be much worse in a few years. The cracks will enlarge and have uneven spots and chunks breaking off.
@karlwithak. concrete can be poured in the winter. A ground thaw unit should have been used in conjunction with concrete blankets to heat the ground before the poor at 185 and then set at 75 for the cure . That concrete work is terrible
He's in the South where the ground doesn't freeze, so I don't believe the time of pour was the problem.. The contractor is getting the blame here when it may be Derek trying to save money, even though he can well afford to do things right. He had a big problem at the other garage with water drainage that seemed obvious and cost a bundle to correct after the fact. Derek mentioned saving money so many times, you would think he was on a shoestring budget. Someone did a study a while back and concluded that Derek brings in $141 per minute day in and day out. This was even before Mottortrend and O'Reillys and what other projects, so money isn't an issue here.
I was glad to see in the end that they finally framed in that back window! It was giving me a fit!
Oh man Derek, I really do hope with setting posts on top of the crete with it cracking like that, it doesn't just crumble underneath. Especially since you're doing it for longevity and your boys can enjoy it

I would think that it's not compacted very good under the slab with those cracks
I would tile that swale that you built to capture the water and direct it away. Also put down a poly weed barrier all around the barn and cover it with gravel. Add to that a plastic grid system that gets covers with gravel that helps retain your pad.
Tile a barn where you park farm equipment?
Congrats!!! You deserve this for all your hard work!!!
Looks great Derek!
I makes me happy to see a guy thriving. 🔥
I been with you since the first chevell build and Jessica doing the gold interior = I’m so happy for yall and your family doing so well and you’re boys are almost men = so happy for you
Nice building. That will increase your property value by a hole bunch 👍
And taxes
Looking good Derek
Super nice barn !
Awesome and outstanding as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along.
So cool to watch the processes and appreciate your commentary and humor. I do want to caution a out burning Pressure Treated wood. I have always been told "Not To". Gives off toxins. Have a great one. Love your family. Bill
Thanks for sharing Very nice indeed Kool
I appreciate your efforts to save money by doing some work yourself. I did the same thing on my Pole barn and Garage projects. I rented a Terra-Mite
Back Hoe and Skid steers to do my own dirt work. My son was really into Bob the Builder at the time and he enjoyed getting to ride on the tractors too.
I am so happy for your growth. Hard work pays off!! I'm glad you got more windows. The more the mary. As others have said, those cracks shouldn't be there. Whoever did the concrete messed up. I would tell a fella they owe you and were they cleaned the trucks. Well, that just goes to show how that company is run. Thank you for keeping us up to date. ❤

@briandolata3466 If you are right, I hope Derek sees your comments. The last thing anyone would want is for it to fail. It is Tennessee, and when I lived there, there were some questionable structures.
@briandolata3466 Hay, i just remembered, Derek mentioned that they notched the post for the beams to rest on.
Great barn. Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy. You work your tail off for the family and fans. Now you'll have PLENTY of room for activities.

That is one very awesome building. Something you have needed for a long time.
All I can say is GOD BLESS YOU ALL!! Best wishes Biz.

Another great video! What a great project and thanks for the update…
Can confirm that every little boy's dream job is moving dirt around with Tonka trucks. I drove Caterpillar 793 D's (312 tons) in a mine for 17,000 hours. Never really got tired of it.
Congratulations 🎉
Looks Great Derek. Stay the course steady as she goes brother
Thanks for the update Derek, the barn looks great!
Derek's heart is in the right place. The concrete will be fixed at some point. He didn't feel any need to make a spectacle of it on video. Classy guy.
Good point; but still after having the flooding before...and there are people that take advantage og good natured classy people all the time 😏...so nip that in the bud. He has to watch out for his best interests...
@annreiter284 I think Derek is acting as the general contractor on these jobs. So it would have been him to make the judgement call if it was a safe time to pour, if the dirt had enough time to settle, etc, etc. The subs follow the overall plan of the contractor while applying their skill set to the task. I'm sure Derek and the sub will sort things out, without needing to embarrass anyone on video.

Congratulations. It's looking good.
Derek, truly God has blessed you, Jessica, and the boys mightily. You showed such Christ-like care, compassion, and concern. You helped the gents with the fouled hose and air compressor, cleaning up, gathered the left over wood (Which you kindly gave to another family), it goes on and on. You do the work of His Kingdom! You all do! It is a joy to watch your videos and I can see you all truly enjoy these blessings. I pray over you all for security, safety, joy in your heats, and peace. Your children are seeing how hard work from their Mother and Father, keeping it Christ centered, brings abundant blessings. Gob bless you all! ~John
