The modern pharmacist is a strange occupation. You go to college for 6 years and it's def not the easiest major. You have to take Calc, organic chem, and other difficult classes to earn that Pharm.D. Then you graduate, go to work at CVS and basically get paid to just be there while underlings count out pills into bottles. It has to be the easiest 6 figure job out there.

On the topic of foot binding: There is a wonderful Chinese story in the book Flowers in the Mirror by Li Ruzhen about the group of male adventurers visiting a country populated by women. The book was written in 1827, for western context that's about 50 years after the French revolution. At the time, foot binding was still practiced but I believe was beginning it's slow decline. In the story, the nation of women force men into the social role of women and have them perform gender in the way that women were expected to. This leads to an extremely striking depiction of one of the main male characters being at once disfigured and emasculated through having his feet bound, as well as making a very interesting proto-feminist point about the treatment of women in a male-dominated society. I would highly recommend giving it a read. Love the channel, commenting for the algorithm. Keep it going ! xoxo

I read once that griffins in Dutch mythology were symbols of both nobility and good (as opposed to dragons being evil). They were said to live in trees and could be tamed by humans to help them defeat their enemies in battles. Here they're often depicted in relation to nobles (or in case of the city of Dordrecht, the oldest city of the Holland provinces, in its weapon) because they'd be symbolic for absolute rule of the realm: the eagle being the ruler of the skies and the lion being the ruler of the land.

With the ridiculous laws and sentencing of torture on animals for human crimes, I hope people can see that just because legislation passes a law does it make it morally or rationally right. Such as the legalization of killing a Scotsman or Welshman for example. Many laws are motivated by political ideology, self-righteous superiority, and ridiculous religious beliefs of the state officials. Leadership/representation is held by people just as capable of mental illness and irrational beliefs as any person deemed not "qualified." And social class divides do nothing but allow this type of irrational & unreasonable corruption.

Wouldn't the "red light" districts have been more than likely called the "red candle" districts?
It saddens me that no matter what age, women are/were always repressed, used as property and suffered under crazy beauty standards.
So much detail we've been surrounded with not knowing the importance of it even if we were familiar with the specialty.
I love tarot & the added information of the court cards & the 9 of Pentacles are valuable. I read & owned both books about the Red Queen & the White Queen but didn't realize this was the Queen on the playing cards holding the white rose & so on.
Perfect for that good good sleep. Thanks for being awesome
Pretty good. I do say it is a strange thing that people still think medieval people thought the Earth was flat. Much less think so themselves. Alas we just cannot seem to shake all the enlightenment & victorian era myths. Lol
Amazing chronicle, good sir, very well done!
11:27 I imagine this law was probably relating to looting that occurred. Many peasants and poor people surely looted from abandoned houses of merchants and nobles who got afflicted by the plague. It probably cause conflict with people disliking people stealing from the dead.
Really enjoyed , these tidbits in History! 👍👍
I don't know how the unicorn became a Christian symbol since it came from the Middle East. It's also showed up in many pagan religions. But I suppose of course is Christianity often does, it was stolen from where it had originated. Is there anything Christianity uses for a symbol not stolen?
Was easter stolen???
Probably was but I’m not sure
@@_argh.1 yes it was, Easter is actually a pagan holiday. If you look at a pagan calendar you will see that most of the holidays we're pagan and then turned into Christian.
The basis for most of D&D books, manuals and monster lore! Excellent!!!
