Thank you for posting these. Wish I could have been mature enough to have appreciated this great day and though I knew about Dunkirk (thanks to my dad), I never truly honored the UK for their role. Now, I do. And I am an American.
The politicians were happy enough to go down on the beach 50 years after the event but typically there were none present in June 1944 dodging the bullets and shells.

Perhaps, but there was a generation that did; Dennis Healey had only just left the House of Commons (Anzio 1944).
