    I love my Apex 21’s! Felt better than other clubs I hit that day. It’s all comes down to preference and I wanted a power cavity back forged iron.

    The P790’s have always been gorgeous but I think the forged tag is deceiving. I had last generation and within a year I was back to a true forged iron. Apex takes this for me.

    I do like your club tests however being 65 with a slow swing speed and hitting 7 iron around 125 yards, there’s no real comparison in watching pros hitting 7 irons 190 yards. More value would be a mid handicap player testing. Any thoughts welcome!!!!!

    • @David-lp2fv
      @David-lp2fv 2 года назад +1

      Exactly, I yearn to see an average golfer test these clubs with support from a pro. I do appreciated though that delivery of the club would not be consistent.

    • @zazhou
      @zazhou 2 года назад +1

      Yes, it would be helpful if there was a tester with average swing speed and has a consistent and good strike, and ideally a single figure handicap player.

    • @derekwhyle1884
      @derekwhyle1884 2 года назад +1

      Mid handicap players aren’t consistent enough to produce meaningful results. Take these results for comparison but you really need to try them yourself. With your low club head speed the shaft and swing weight need to be right. No insult intended but I would get a pro to look at your technique and start some golf specific exercises. You should be able to easily add 10 or more yds to your 7 iron distance. I say that as a 70 year old

    Definitely have to go with the Callaway Apex iron. Next to the Srixon ZX7 Callaway makes the softest, best feeling, best sounding forged irons on the market. Taylormade 790 only has a forged face and to me lacks the true feel of a forged iron and even with the damping material they still are not able to get rid of that clicky sound. Great comparison video Michael.

      @@keithwalker1780 Fair call Keith. It ultimately does comes down to personal preference. Different attributes of irons have disproportionately different affects on individuals..... that's the beauty of this game of golf. For me personally, a fully forged iron with a slightly longer face just feels softer and plays better that one with just a forged face. That's why I'm a passionate Mizuno convert, but definitely respect everyone else's opinion/choice as these are all great brands/irons.

    I thought a truer comp would have been with the 770 not the 790 , which to me was more like the DCB.
    I found the 790s have a real hot spot where one shot goes 10y further than you expect which is why I went for new irons in the first place

  • @tomduckworth8335
    @tomduckworth8335 2 года назад +4

    Just my observation about your spin comments. Spin is really connected to the loft not the number on the bottom of the club. After all a golfer is going to have to hit whatever club he or she needs to hit a certain yardage. So while one person can hit an “8” iron into a green another may have to hit a “7” or even a “6” so their spin will be different anyway.
    I think too many reviewers just connect spin with the number stamped on the bottom. So no a 30.5 degree club won’t spin the same as a 34 degree club but I don’t see why you call that low spin isn’t it “normal” spin for whatever the loft is?

    I just got fit and tried both. Both were amazing but I chose the Apex 21s just on personal choice. Numbers were very close. I am moving from Miura. My carry with Miura for 7 iron is 159 yards and for the Apex (and the 790s) it was 180. 34 degree loft vs 30.5 so yeah, I get it. But for me it was not distance, it was dispersion. Much tighter dispersion with the Apex and 790s compared to the Miuras. The Miuras out of the very middle are like a knife through butter but anywhere else and I was losing huge yardage. Off-centre strikes with the Apex and 790s were only a few yards shorter than centre strikes and much tighter. My Apexes coming next week and am so excited.

      @@pigs6486 Absolutely loving the Apexes. The very first shot on the course was a total frozen rope. Also, and this I did not realise until I played them on the course, they have done something with the sole as the turf interaction is amazing. What do I mean by this? If I hit them a bit fat, they seem to glide through the turf and still make pretty good contact. When I caught my Miuras fat they would just dig in and I would duff the ball down the fairway. I think the sole is more rounded with the Apexes or something which makes them so forgiving of fat strikes. So, yeah, super happy with them. I don't think you will go wrong.

    My only issue with all of these clubs is that when you go for a fitting generally you only have a 7 iron to test …… so when you and others mention the potential for blending different models how can you assess that when the clubs aren’t available to test?

    • @MichaelNewtonGolf
      @MichaelNewtonGolf  3 года назад +1

      Yeah its a tough one that, its a cost element for the brand to provide extra heads across all models then provide all the different shaft options in the different iron head lengths etc etc. Multiply that extra cost across hundreds of fitting accounts then it soon adds up. In an ideal world all that.......
