"Have fun rotting in prison" - man convicted of murdering mom sentenced to 35 years

- Muhammad Altantawi was 16 when his mom was killed and pushed out of a second-floor window. He was convicted in March after just two hours of deliberation. On Wednesday, in a four-hour hearing, he was ultimately sentenced to 35 to 60 years in prison and sent out with a message, apparently from a family member: "Have fun rotting in prison, murderer".

He killed his mother for having the nerve to divorce his father. So many phone calls between them that morning, makes me wonder if the father encouraged him to do this. His father tried saying his son was a victim and the judge went off on him about it. The family member who said said "Have fun rotting in jail" was the sister he just asked to see.

They say a life sentence is 20-25 years, unfortunately.
Maybe the court felt like he did the world a favor. She did a bang-up job with him.
No ma'am that should be death, and for all murders it should be death, why should normal people have to feed these animals
My mother was a raging bipolar alcoholic. Ive had a lot of resentment towards her, never could i take her life. Or anyones for that matter. You can scream, cuss, even say harsh things you can never take back. Compared to murdering someone, its much better. But once you take a life, theres zero chance to ever make amends
Imagine having the gall to ask to see his sister after what he has done. Hope she is safe and stays that way.
That was his last chance to let his sister know he wanted to talk. I heard she was the one who yelled, "have fun rotting in prison"
I guess that was her last chance at telling him her position on his request ;-P

Your circumstances in life are totally different from his, you cannot compare, that's stupid. And naive. Besides the fact that your mother and his mother were two totally different persons. How can you even start to compare? People are different. Circumstances in life are random. There are billions of different combinations.
The subtitles made a whole lot of sense to explain what was going on in the video.

Im not making any sympathy for him.... but this 3 minute clip is nothing more than just the literal sentencing part of the process... not saying he actually gave sympathy from killing his mother. But usually those sympathy pleas are heard way before this moment. This 3 minutes is the end of what was probably a week long trial.
If he was in tears, you would've flipped that opinion to something along the lines of "he's only crying because he got caught." Either way, the 'what if' opinion would be the same.

A 16 year old juvenile who murdered his mother in 2017, the judge sentenced him in 2022 to 35-60 years in prison. I can not understand “35-60 years”?! Isn't it a court order? Wherefore, it could be more precisely framed, i.e., 35, 40, 60 years, etc.
