How is that fair? In my opinion, crimes that result in a person's death or carry the risk of permanent trauma for them must be punished by either life without parole or the death penalty, with the latter saving people the trouble of paying money to keep them locked up.

My mother (born 1929) told this story. One day, when she was a child, her father (my grandfather) and some of his friends were sitting in the yard in back of the house. They were playing cards. All of a sudden, another one of their friends came around to the back yard. He had been severely beaten and said some guys were after him because they mistakenly thought he stole some money. He was asking if he could stay at my grandfather's house. Hearing the commotion and overhearing the conversation, my grandmother came to the back door and said no, this man could not stay at the house. So, feeling sorry for him, one of the other men playing cards said it was ok for this man to come to his house and stay for a while. A few days later, my grandparents learned that this man who had been beaten had raped another friend's 14-year-old daughter. It was this teenager's father that had severely beaten this man and was still looking for him. This man told a complete lie about why he had been beaten and was on the run. My grandfather was so glad my grandmother refused to let that man stay at their house. This rapist might have assaulted my mom or even my grandmother if he had been let into their house.

Don't allow it to define your whole life. It wasn't your fault, no matter what as a child. Even as an adult if you was r*ped... evil and bad things happen. To those abusing themselves because of childhood trauma... stop, get a therapist. If therapist is not working find another. It was Christ for me, but therapy can help, too. It does get better. Though stories of abuse can trigger some emotions. Don't allow it to settle on you. Reject depression, anger and new pain.

What's crazy is that the suspect can still sit up. He would have lost the use of both arms and legs so that he couldn't harm people again.

I can completely sympathize with this family. To hurt a child like that is just hideous, and deserving of the worst punishment. When a child is hurt like that the person they were supposed to be is gone, their innocent life stolen from them, leaving a wound that will remain forever. It takes a village to raise a child. When I was about 4 years old a man that was visiting my family lured me to the rooftop because there was a carnival across the street from us. He was caught trying to molest me by my mother who noticed I was suddenly missing. I can still remember it, my father and my uncle grabbed him and beat him up as they were kicking him down the stairs while my mother and aunts were checking me over. He didn’t get very far thank God, I could have ended up being thrown off the roof. After growing up and having children of my own, my motto is “trust no one” when it comes to your children.

@@itaintrocketscience No I've been on a a jury in NYC for someone accused of attempted murder, a clear case of self defense. We acquitted him in 20 minutes. NYC prosecutors are starting to get some sense here. A couple of years ago a man killed his wife's rapist and they didn't even bring charges against him, only charged him for misdemeanor gun possession for which he only had to pay a fine.

in Borneo/Sumatra if you are convinced of a crime against a minor ie sexual assault or rape they are turned over to the mother and father for punishment. most are beaten to death or nearly to death by the victims family whichever they see fit to do. it may sound barbaric but you don't hear of repeat offenders. they hold children and the elderly family members almost sacred.

I hear far too often that a little girl has gone missing and is later found dead and the killer captured and thrown in prison for 30-40 years or sometimes even less if there's a plea deal to find the body. It's sickening and if our justice system refuses to do what's right then they've left us no other choice but to take it into our own hands. I have two little nieces and if anyone even looked at them sideways they're learning a quick lesson. Trust me this is better than anything the courts could have done for the victim. In my experience these people get arrested, then released to live their lives normally until they are given probation or nothing at all. Good Job family!!! I hope your loved one is able to move past this trauma and live a productive and happy life.
