I got heavily involved in woodworking a few years ago due to your content. Its good to see you back in the saddle again. Positive vibes to you and your loved ones, you're a Great Dude. Lets Build Together.
I'm totally impressed with your openness with the community yesterday and your project today. You won a new subscriber! Looking forward to what you've got coming down the pike!
There is no therapy better than staying busy doing worthwhile projects like this floor. Sending you support and prayers, brother. Loved the shot of your daughter, which reminded me of my two girls.
I’m so happy you spoke about your challenge and mental health. Most people don’t!!!! We all face challenges and happy you were able to recognize it, step back and take time for yourself.
Killer installation! What a huge transformation and yeah... the concrete footers are a challenge and you evened them out, that electric planer did an awesome job... also that resaw on the job site saw. Glad to see you back and that's the way to get back into the groove... It sometimes takes going back to a clean slate for a new beginning both in life and in the shop... it's both a metaphor and a physical reality.
I’m sorry for the loss of your relationship and the hardship on your daughter. Even though the reality doesn’t always match the blueprint in our minds, it’s doesn’t change the quality of the father you can be. Thank you for being vulnerable as a man and sharing, for the self work you’ve taken upon yourself to do, and of course for your content. Take care brother
This is one of the best produced and informative how-to's I have watched. The descriptions and explanations are clear and well spoken. The attention to detail and focus are just what is needed for a professional instructional on vinyl flooring. Good job on the remodel and the video.
You do really good work… I have been a contractor for 36 years, you do really good work. I can tell you’re a perfection at what you do you do it properly and I could see you do not cut any corners. Great job, my man!!!!
The transformation is incredible. Always inspiring me to take on new projects. It always amazes me how little needs to be done to have a major impact on a space
I am so happy you are back posting. Your videos gave me the confidence to start doing work around the house myself. Since then I built my fence and saved thousands of dollars. Thank you for everything, very good video as always and I might try this for my kitchen redesign!
Looks like another room of the house. Very professional job. I think you'll be happy with the vinyl, we used it for years with 3 german shepherds with little wear and tear. I'm glad to see you're back and can't wait to see more projects!
Your supervisor did a great job. I watched a video last week where someone installed similar flooring and he had good things to say about it too. I look forward to updates on how it does in your shop. Thanks for sharing.
I’m so happy you spoke about your challenge and mental health. Most people don’t!!!! We all face challenges and happy you were able to recognize it, step back and take time for yourself. Happy you’re back too
Welcome back Glenn, praying for you brother. Nice work on this project and huge transformation. It’s super satisfying once you get to installing the trim work. Turned out great. 👍
Great to see you back. Wonderful job on the floor. Really liked the way you trimmed out the door. Can't wait to see how the rest of the garage is going to be finished out.
While we typically wouldn't put floating vinyl in a workshop space, I can definitely appreciate your approach to learning. Best way to learn is to test it! Something to keep in mind for anyone else looking to do something similar is to double check that your product is rated for slab install or rated as truly waterproof and not just "water resistant."
@@rumrun11 I do. I made small piece about 4’x4’ and parked on it for a month with the front tires and saw no blemishes or marring. So far the only disadvantage I’ve see is that you don’t get the traction you’d get from epoxy. Only cost about $800 bucks.
@@BudoDave76 good to know, thanks. What is the climate like where you live. I live in Canada. I’m wondering if this would hold up to a Canadian winter, followed by a reasonably warm summer. Yes, I could see it being a bit slippery. I wonder if there is some kind of sanded paint or sanded clear coat you could put over top (at least in the area where the tires roll over) to provide a better grip?
@@rumrun11 I’m in So Cal… but… my cousin in Seattle Washington did her garage as well and it’s holding up perfectly. Her neighbors were inspired to do the same.
I love this! I’m currently working on my garage to do the same thing but I wanted it for my son so he can have his own personal space since apartments are so expensive nowadays. Thank you. I learned a lot. 😊
I have these same exact vinyl plank flooring from the same company in all my bedrooms in my home. It’s been 3 years and they have held up wonderfully. Very durable and if there are any visible scratches that develop, as long as they aren’t big gouges, they can be easily smoothed out with your fingernail.
I did vinyl planks for my dog's room. it had concrete slab just like your garage. I would always recommend to measure width of the room before laying; chances are you will want to cut your first row that you lay so that the final row might not end up being a sliver of width. Looks like it worked out fine for you :)
Glad you’re back. Cool project and sharp looking results. I have two durability questions regarding vinyl plank in a garage/shop for you or anyone else who has done this. 1. How well does the planking hold up to concentrated weight created by heavy tools on feet/rollers? 2. How does planking stand up to a parked vehicle, especially to twisting force of tires turning with steering movement?
It's fascinating to witness someone doing a DIY installation, and the end result looks fantastic! Need to learn something more but for the first time, you did a great job!
Terrific work! You completely reset the space and have a blank canvas to work from. I'm really thrilled to see you back! Can't wait to see how you reassemble your shop.
Glenn - DO NOT put the laminate flooring directly over tile. Yes it will take you a bit longer to do it "correctly", but it will be well worth it. I've been repairing and replacing floors for far too long, and can't tell you the number of times I've replaced horrors. Love the channel, glad to see you back! Remember - the sun rises and sets every day.
I believe he said that he would first float the floor to get it flat and then lay the vinyl floor on top of that. As long as you first scuff u the tiles and prime it properly to get good adhearence, it should work well enough.
So glad that you took time out for your emotional and mental health sending much love & strength young man.. remember all you can do is take it one day at a time
HI Glen, Glad your back and wish you and your family all the best! Also great job on the floor!! Question: what happened to the husky floor tiles? did they not hold up?
Super glad your back, actually the first workshop builder I ever followed. Love how you explain the job and are someone ppl can relate to. Look forward to future projects and see you build back up!
So good to have you back! How does this compare to the other vinyl tiles you installed 2y ago? The looks are amazing... I have installed loose lay planks before inside a house but have always been hesitant to do it in a garage with heavier objects and even a car.

One thing alot of people are not told is that even though it's waterproof vinyl plank, you still need to put down 6 mill plastic underneath when you're installing on a concrete subfloor. What happens if you don't is the floor will start cupping. Other that that good job ! I've been installing for 21 yr , and my family 46 by the way.
Excellent job - looks to easy. Walls - I used to use flat but I believe (not knowing nothing) that egg shell last longer and is easy to clean with a sponge versus flat which wipe off after many years. I have to remove the existing 5/8 thick hardwood floors (termites destroyed it), scrap off all the old tar that glued it to the concrete, then install the floors.

The paint was a good choice, too, though you'll need to do cleaning or touch up on it more often than a darker color. White walls diffuse the light in a room, making it more even and getting rid of harsh shadows.
