    Surfing and surf progression Q&A time - plus some broccoli gossip. I haven't done a Q&A on RUclips (only on Patreon) since I was in Sydney which is over two years ago so i thought I'd take some time to go through a lot of the questions you guys have asked me recently.
    I'm spread quite thin these days and constantly balance my own private surfing time (no cameras!), work-surfs (where I am also directing, presenting etc), editing (eghhh), family time (puppy time!) and relaxation time (what is that?). This means it's pretty rare that i'm able to engage people privately with their surfing questions on social media. I use these questions as guides for future content, though, so please keep them coming and also check out some of the links below which will help solve all your surfing queries.

    "The want to get those waves has to be greater than the fear that's currently standing in your way."
    - Kale Brock
    That quote goes beyond surfing. Thanks for the unexpectedly deep thoughts on life, Kale. You're the man.

    I have a year of surfing under my belt. I'm just starting to get the hang of it and feel comfortable in the water. Surfing's hard, at least for me. Believe me, I did everything wrong when I started. I recently bought the Surfer's Roadmap for both beginners and intermediates. I wish I had purchased them the day I started surfing. Money well spent!

    Kale. I believe one of assets you have is a good vibe and verbal communication that is allowing people to feel supported in their surfing development.
    I've been a counselor for years and a surfer for over 5 decades...started at 6.
    These have given me many opportunities to see the importance of ones attitude when faced with the everyday challenges of life.
    From watching you via RUclips clips and as a surf coach also. It's my opinion that you have a natural talent in connecting with people and importantly transferring to complexities of surfing to beginners and surfers beyond that level, who are seeking to improve their skill.
    As surfers we learn all the time and will, as long as we continue to surf and enjoy the ocean.
    Keep the good vibe going mate

    Living for the last 3 years in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 in the south coast by Ahangama, I can definitely agree that the constant waves here definitely helps your progression. Waves for days during nearly 4 months and a lot of spots for beginners and intermediate!
    Despite what is written on the news, even today, Sri Lanka is super safe and there are great waves at the moment on the east side

    Totally agree that growing up with little access to good waves can make us so much more appreciative of any wave condition. It's almost always better to be in the water than not in the water 🙌🤙 Really enjoyed this video and appreciate all the advice and insight!

    When I first started trying your tips I was still so much more of a grom so I really couldn’t do what you were saying due to my body size and the size of the waves I was on but now I’m really seeing what you meant and it’s really becoming even more helpful as I get better so thanks so much

    Few cheeky shots of SA there mr Brock!
    You’re so right about needing to do it all the time, I used to surf to a high level now I’m lucky to be classed as intimidate with how much I surf, and a hip injury turning into a surgery it’s looking likely I’ll need to do something else.

    You just moved up a notch in my book by distrusting government. They’re record sucks. But watching what happened in Australia, as an American, over the last three years, blew my mind. And my experience with Aussies in general, is, that the majority are media muppets that fall for anything, and love being woke, mindless slaves. So kudos to you for being an independent thinker. Hopefully your viewers don’t abandon you for being smart.

    I got a 6’8” FireWire Sunday at 48L based off your advice on mid lengths helping your short board surfing. Trying to progress with learning turns and better pumping technique. I was wondering, though, would the fact that the Sunday is a twin fin still have the same benefits to my short board surfing? Or should I get a board that is set up as a thruster for better progression to eventually riding a HP shortboard? Thanks!

    If i don't surf at all for 6 months or even 1 year, when i come back and try to surf will my skills be the same as where i left off??
    Obviously i know that paddling strength will be weaker but just wondering about the actual skill of riding the wave.

      FYI - i've been surfing for 3 years now and surf 3 times a week... Example of my surfing is i can surf a spot like Rocky point when its 1 or 2 feet overhead on the famous north shore of hawaii... Can do basic cutbacks and basic carves...

    Eh. Sucks about the conspiracy stuff. Seems to be a draw for a lot of surfers out there, but I hope it isn't coming from a place of ignorance. I guess it depends which ones we are specifically talking about and Australia isn't quite like the U.S. where conspiracy stuff is literally destroying our democracy and making it difficult to function as a society.

    • @KalesBroccoli
      @KalesBroccoli  2 года назад

      As someone with a journalist and tv background I can say that quite a few of the “conspiracies” have come true in the last few years. As long as you’re balancing your sources and doing some independent research most people come to logical conclusions about stuff

    • @goucla562
      @goucla562 2 года назад

      @@KalesBroccoli I actually don't trust folks to come to logical conclusions based on their own research. Psychological studies have shown that on complex/technical issues, DYOR actually leads more people to being misled then actually informed.
      It is known as the beginners bubble and stems from giving too much credence to just the small bits of information gained initially. You and I should not act like we know better than experts in certain fields.
      Now I don't know what particular "conspiracies" you are referencing that have come true, and perhaps it isn't worth our time to delve into those. Arguing over the specific ones likely isn't going to change your mind or mine. I just wanted to point out the dangers of this thinking.
      I, as an American, am deeply concerned with where things are heading from a lot of this DYOR/Conspiracy stuff. We literally have folks rejecting vaccines, i.e. science, because of what they read on some blog on the internet. Not to mention all the election nonsense. If you think any of this stuff is good for our society, then just wait for the end game of it all.
      I've visited Australia and personally really liked it as a country. Heck, wouldn't mind moving there if I got the chance because of where my country is heading! (your beaches are wonderful and the water quality is great)
      So I think you should be grateful that your country is succumbing to rampant conspiracy nonsense like mine is.
