Did you buy a pre-modified shell? I’ve been looking at getting an ips v2 off handheld legends but I also kinda want to modify my own original gameboy shell, there is just something about keeping as much of it as original as possible. Also do you know if the pre-modified shells are actually OEM ones that were just trimmed in a workplace?
7:34 i'm confused... What's going on here? Coating the solder points with burnt flux? Why? I have extensive soldering experience, and I've never seen this before. Am I missing something?
oh dear... I kept watching and... the dollar store coil of solder! and then applying the solder to the iron tip first... Isn't that like the very first thing you learn NOT to do when you solder?
So, I bought the modified shell, but I forgot to buy the wires. But I'm stuck at home because of covid-19, so I decided, what the hell, let's do this and add the wires later. So I did. Everything went perfect except for one thing: the new shell is hard as hell, the new holes for screws are so tight and... very new and hard. So I striped every screw. Every single screw. There is no way back, now, right? It's perfectly closed now, works just fine, but I wanted to come back later and do the brightness mod. Am I (please forgive me) screwed? I'm afraid start and select might eventually stop working as og GBAs tend to do, how am I ever going to fix this later? Oh god...
I installed everything and tested it before I put it back together. The screen worked fine and now it's dark. I placed the outer screen too. I thought maybe I didn't remove a piece of protective film so I took everything apart and test the screen again and now it doesn't work. I don't know what I'm missing 😥 One of my wires is a little frayed, might have happened when I was putting a screw. Any advice is appreciated ☺️
I've read this on retromodding.com, tryed it today, and it works perfectly. The IPS LCD includes a built-in 10-level brightness controller. Installing the brightness controller is simple, but requires a soldering iron, and a basic understanding of how to use it. There are a couple of different points you can solder to in order for the brightness controller to function. We find the most elegant solution is to use TP9 (L), TP8 (R), and TP2 (Select), which are clearly marked on the PCB. Modders with less soldering experience can choose to solder the wires to the larger soldering points on the other side of the PCB, but we recommend not having the wires cross back over the board.
@@fabienmartin95 so my understanding is that it's just 2 inputs that share a ground which in the video is soldered to the select button? If that's the case then they could be put on any of the test outputs or even set to separate micro switches if you wanted to add 2 small buttons.

I just installed mine. In my opinion, the default brightness is perfect. Really bright but not too bright. Even if I was comfortable soldering I don't think I would raise it beyond the default brightness.
@@prismatic1239 Yes, If you solder the 3 wires it has 10 levels of brightness and the third or fourth level is already brighter than the 101.
