Hey guys! Finally the next elementalist tome is FINISHED! Only 2 to go! Also, we're going to Makers Central in Birmingham on the 11th and 12th of May, so if you see us there, come over and say hi! :) If you wanna know what's up behind the scenes and what we're doing outside of RUclips, check out our Instagram @thenerdforge where we post stuff more frequently! See you soon when we'll make the Tome of Earth! - Martina
Excellent as always but this book would look even more amazing with guilded pages, you had a lot of faux silver leftover so you could have used that for guilding. Oh well you're the maker here but still incredible piece of work! Keep up good work!
Amazing build! If you see the game Dungeons & Dragons they made a race that are elemental people (Genasis) and their skin matches their element. They used Fire/Red, Earth/Gray, Air/Blue and Water/Green. It seems like a weird decition but if you see them in context ( imgur.com/wGAIITX ) they look great. So for your water book maybe you could work it out with a green/slightly blue color like an emerald turquoise or something! Anyways hello from Mexico!
I find hand binding far from tedious...I”m a bookbinder by trade & find the print finishing tedious... Bloody awesome.... I’m trying to do stuff like that... Where do you get all the corners....filigrees...leaf silver??
Since this book is so blue when you make the book of water you should do a marbeling or wave like effect with different types of blue like teal, aqua, cobalt ect. I realy love the series ❤
I'd also add other cold colours like Purple and maybe Green because water can be cold and Purple would compliment the Blue nicely ^^ whilst Green could be things like seaweed or something
If you think about it in Harry Potter each house represents an element and ravenclaw is air and they’re blue hufflepuff is earth and yellow slithering water and green and then Gryffindor red and fire so it could definitely make sense to change water to green giving it like an algae lake type of aesthetic
Your Fire Tome actually got me interested in book binding in addition the my learning how to use my grandfather's leather tools. I haven't used this particular method yet (I started with making a kettle stitch text block and case binding using faux leather scrounged from an old couch and the boards from the sketchbook I sacrificed to the cause) but I look forward to being able to make something so pretty! Air came out very pretty! As for the blue, happy accident! It worked well very well. If I can make suggestions for Earth and Water? Earth can be taken more than one way. You can make it like rock (greys and gunmetal, maybe a design to look like seams of silver or gold ore in the rock, this would also be lovely to add some colored stone or glass details as rivets to look like gemstones [garnet in granite for example]) or you can go a forest style route with greens and/or browns (I'd love to see that with copper and brass accents). For water, you could go with various dark blues with black for deep sea, or a lighter mixture of grey-blues with white for surface water. Maybe silver leaf for both the sunshine on the water and the scales of fish? I don't know. This may just be shouting into the wind, and maybe I'll use those own ideas myself ;) , but I'm sure you have your own ideas that will turn out beautifully! Good luck!!!
I think this tone of blue suits well the Air element. Very nice work!! I would suggest Earth book to be green, with brown tones into the carvings (or vice versa) and golden leaf metal. I can't wait to see it!! :)
personally I associate a green book with a Tome of Nature. Earth should be more gray and brown, more like a book made from stone with some brown for dirt and maybe a little green thrown in for some moss. better yet some fake moss glued to the casing. The tooling could look like chisel marks like the book was hewed from an actual block of stone.
@@patrickhigdon7050 I like that idea. My only concern is for the Tome of Water... this one became pretty blue so I'm wondering what she'll do with the Tome of Water to be able to tell them apart
you know what I hope for? one day a film maker would see this and decide to do an epic movie or pull off the next GOT using these and you'd get a hell lot of money and your name would show in the credits and the rest of earth population who didn't discover your channel yet will get to be as amazed as I was while having goosebumps looking at this. that's how much I loved the tome of air.
Martina, I am so amazed by your incredible talent. The detail on all your book covers is stunning and each book is indeed a work of art. I so enjoy watching the process and I look forward to the Tome of Earth.
I took an entire class on bookmaking at my college and this (and the Fire one I watched before it and probably the Earth and water ones I'll be watching after it) is bringing back so many memories. I remember so vividly poking a good portion of my fingertip out with an awl one time (because unlike you we had to use awls for both the pages *and* the thick ass bookboard covers so you had to push the awl through super hard and I overcompensated one time, lol.), using bonefolders for so much of our work, and just having the best time with a group of completely insane, nerdy, awesome peeps. We made books for our girlfriends to use as sketchbooks, books that were shaped like flowers, books that fit entirely inside of mason jars that were filled with molasses and vinegar, books that were themed like little kids cereal boxes, triptychs based on pop culture, and *so* much more, so just thank you for bringing back such good memories.
I looked up that collection of essays on loyalty you used as a leather-weight and fell down that rabbit-hole. It‘s actually very interesting! Half in German and half in English (as in some essays are in one or the other, not simultaneously) if that changes how anyone feels about checking it out themselves.
that's true but 99% of everything you see that is named "galaxy" doesn't look like one at all. It's usually a fantasy colored something but not a galaxy and I think it's really sad that, in the meantime, people actually start to think that is how it looks. I would love to see someone attempting to include a real galaxy drawing in an artwork.
This book is so absolutely gorgeous!! I'm in love with the tornado patterns you etched in!! However, I do have to say I wish the colors were much paler/lighter, because I feel that it looks a bit like a Tome of water.
I came across this channel on my "Recommended for you" stuff last week. Bookmaking/binding is a very skill-set and artistic endeavor. I enjoyed watching these videos. There's something about watching things take shape under your own hands or the hands of other people that is very satisfying to the soul. It's like watching an early morning sunrise. If I had the cash I would definitely get one of these just to have on my shelf. I probably would never write in it!
i LOVE how you compensated for having such a deep blue color. adding all that silver with the tornadoes and gusts of wind really makes the blue feel like it belongs, i don't feel like it detracts from the design. you made a beautiful book yet again!!
If you add some extruded screws on the top and bottom of your book press you'll be able to wrap the thread easier. You could even use some hanger hooks which take multiple screws for extra support.
I think it would’ve been cool that instead of such blue coloques you had made a silver/gray one but this looks awesome as well!!! So cool, here after watching my elemental one (fire). Can’t get enough of these books.
it turned out so pretty, it really does look like the sky! The silver leaf really brought the tornado designs to life. As someone who once also chose to use blue/stars to represent the Air element in a drawing (also to remind of the sky and the space where air flows), I also had someone criticize it because "Air isnt cosmic" lol. I believe rules like that can be bent sometimes for more creative outcomes! :)
You are awesome!!! I just found your channel while looking up videos on book binding and I am SO impressed!! These are works of art for sure!! The only bad part is that now I'm gonna have to try and make one (not nearly as ambitious as yours mind you). Just when I thought I had enough art and craft supplies I find something new!!! The only good thing is that a lot of my other craft projects and art supplies means that I have a lot of stuff that can be used for book making already. Here I was, thinking I wanted to make a hardcover sketch book or something else similar with either paper or cloth covering, and now I'm looking at wanting to make a large leather bound tome!!!! Well keeps life from getting boring I guess. If it turns out at all I'll send you a pic!!!
Amazimg work as always!!!! Just a suggestion:To compensate for the air book being "too blue", you could make the water one a darker blue to represent the deep and creepy ocean~
Oh man i wish the air element book would be green just because i always associate the elements with one color (fire-red, air-green, earth-yellow and water-blue), but despite that i love it! Thanks for this elemental series of bookcrafting.
Waiting for the earth element book since I am a virgo !! I won't suggest any colors because I trust your inspiration & talent . Keep up the good work Martina 😍
Beautiful tome! Love your work. As I was watching you spread the glue and press the leather onto the board I wondered if a brayer might be a handy tool for you. It is used to spread ink for printing and I've seen it used to flatten seams when hanging wallpaper. For brushes with gunk on them I put out an old China plate on my work table. Hope this will be useful to you.
This series is the greatest! I love putting these videos of your bookbinding while I work, it's very inspirational :) CANT WAIT FOR THE BOOK OF EARTH!!!
I love how excited you were about the glue brush and almost immediately were like, "there is no place to put a glue brush without making a mess." It made me smile.

I love watching you make these books, it’s so relaxing. I finally subscribed to your Chanel since I’ve watched so many of your videos. Thanks for the inspiration
It is smart I think to have not made the color even when dyeing the leather, it gives it more of a sort of cloudy, light and airy look~ Also, you could have used white, as a substitute for grey, although I do quite enjoy how this tome turned out. Awesome job! :3
Hi Martina! ♡ Another awe-inspiring book binding creation from you! 💕💕I love the choice of color you made. You made the perfect choice although you couldn't find gray it turned out really great. 💕 Blue to me makes it even more magical looking. 💘💕 Thank you so much for another wonderful video. 😗😗❤❤
By far your technique to bind the book is the best over all others in the other channels, and your books looks amazing. If I can make a constructive comment, try something different for the water and earth, because your 3 books so far are the same model only with different colours, maybe some forged items, locks, just an idea. Incredible work, I would definitely buy any of your books.
Awesome book! But next time you do an element of air book I would go with a light purple almost pastel purple if possible instead of blue as it's too close to the element of water. Still very well made as usual!
Hello. I'm new to your page but I can honestly say that I love your books and other builds. That being said, I was hoping to see you make a star, moon, and sun tome.Any chance of that happening?
Arcgh!! You could have saved those foil leaves - gold or silver, and use them for your next projects! Save on money from buying more! Although, I love those tome book projects! Stay safe and have a fabulous day! 😁 ❤️🇦🇺

If I can make a constructive comment, try something different for the water and earth, because your 3 books so far are the same model only with different colours, maybe some forged items, locks, just an idea.
Incredible work, I would definitely buy any of your books.
Gorgeous tome! :D
What an epic project!
Just watched this, amazing work as always!
Yeah, it should be in yellow and silver for air, but incomparably beautiful work regardless! Can't wait for the next one!
Try c clamps they will hold everything down as far as the edges I must as though where to get. Book press for a reasonable price but na it looks nice
This looks so cool I can't wait to try and make this
Awesome book! But next time you do an element of air book I would go with a light purple almost pastel purple if possible instead of blue as it's too close to the element of water. Still very well made as usual!
Wow! It’s fabulous! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hello. I'm new to your page but I can honestly say that I love your books and other builds. That being said, I was hoping to see you make a star, moon, and sun tome.Any chance of that happening?
I wish you could find all of the metal elements in the same finish (antiqued or new). I just think it would sell the idea better.
That is soooo beautiful
I am obsessed with this.
It's amazing!! Although I think you should have went with yellow :p what color will the water one be then? I'd love to make a book like this some day.
Wow that was beautiful. Thanks for the video
Love seeing you working on the living room table. That's me making as well :D
Next time you try to tie the strings for the clamp put the book clamp on its side and then try to wrap the line around it and see how that works
Ifs nice seeing the Fire journal in this
I need one of those ♒️
Great job!
I love how it turned out, even though the color was not exactly what you wanted.
Your work is amazing.
Arcgh!! You could have saved those foil leaves - gold or silver, and use them for your next projects! Save on money from buying more! Although, I love those tome book projects! Stay safe and have a fabulous day! 😁 ❤️🇦🇺
Can't wait for the water one🌊🌊🌊
This looks so cool! I’m going to make one some time soon!
Would have been cool if the paper was pastel blue but I absolutely LOVE all your book making process 😍
Can't wait for more vids~
This is simply a wonderful tutorial. It has inspired me to make a personal sketch book.
perhaps for the water tome you could use more of an oceanic color or just a dark marine blue
So n love with your projects. Just bought a cast iron book press so here goes the restoration.
