What I appreciate is that you DON'T hold back, you're not just another paid mouthpiece for the sport. You keep it honest and real, warts and all. We need that.
Until NASCAR sees TV money going down, nothing's going to change. The fan does NOT dictate the direction of the sport anymore because the fan is NOT the driving force of the sport anymore regardless of what PR bullshit they try to peddle. As long as NASCAR is getting 2.4 billion dollar TV deals, TV is who they're pandering to, not the ticket buying fan at the track. The people running NASCAR aren't racers. They're business men and women. I have been saying this for YEARS. You can't expect a good racing product from people who don't know racing. As I've said 100 times in the past. If you love short track racing and that's what you want to see, well Dale here owns a little thing called the CARS Tour, which is NASCAR short track racing from 25-30 years ago. WATCH THAT.
I mean, that's all true, but if people stop watching because the product sucks, NASCAR won't be getting $2.4B TV deals anymore. So ultimately, in a roundabout way, the fans do drive the sport.
@@davecarsley8773by then it will be too late and they will have killed the sport sadly
I was there for all 3 nights of racing. Trucks and xfinity put on such a good show. I was most surprised that trucks were laying down faster lap times than Cup in qualifying and in the race.
Hopefully NASCAR can fix this lackluster cup racing fast
The best racing nascar has right now are the modified’s!
Nascar does not care. All media talk bout it and keeps nascar in the news. Thats all they want and the media is giving them just what they want.nascar should shut down and close doors.
The only way to fix short track cup racing is a drastically redesigned car and tire . Do away with the big tires on short tracks and Badyear make a tire that wears out at about 50 laps
I’m 51 and became a diehard NASCAR fan by probably seven, or eight, years old. I grew up in Wilkes county NC and being a NASCAR fan was just baked into the culture. Our family attended most races at N. Wilkesboro, Martinsville, Charlotte, Bristol, Rockingham and Darlington. We watched every televised race, and if it wasn’t on TV, my family was listening to MRN.
Having said that, I haven’t regularly watched NASCAR in years. I still love racing though. I follow the SMART tour, I frequently attend races at Hickory, Tri-County, Bowman Gray, and will travel to Caraway, South Boston and ACE on occasion. I never miss an NHRA televised event. I go to all the NHRA events at Charlotte and Bristol. I watch IMSA televised races more often than NASCAR. I don’t know precisely what’s missing from the NASCAR Cup series, but it’s just lost any appeal. If I do watch NASCAR, it is inevitably exclusively the short tracks.
If you only watch the short tracks now then you're missing the only good races in the current car
I know you and about every other old fart on RUclips loves saying how much they watched and now how much they DONT watch now yet they waste their time being involved
@@RowingFrontal5….and it’s the “old farts” who have the disposable income to attend the races, buy the merch, and support the team sponsors. It’s in NASCAR’s best interest to keep everyone engaged, including “old farts”
As far as my “participation”, it’s because Dale Jr/Dirty Mo Media focuses on the history of the sport, the legendary drivers and the unsung heroes of the past who grew the sport from a regional attraction to a global presence.
Have a nice day “young punk”
@@abolishwelfare “old farts” ain’t an age thing it’s a mindset. When you’re on here crying about something you don’t even follow anymore instead of enjoying the positives when it’s there as Jr does then yeah you’re an old fart. Some of the most enjoyable people to be around are people with life experience and who don’t do the RUclips equivalent of welfare (watch free
videos and cry about whatever the hell youre crying about)
I agree that it feels different. It went way more corporate bottom line and less racing. When a guy was 35, he was a "young man" or close to a rookie. Occasionally a young driver came in but for the most part, drivers used to be grown ups who were accomplished in other series before even thinking about the top 3 series. It is harder to look up to a 20 year old.
Xfinity Series is more exciting to watch.
they have been the best Xfinity Series to watch since 2017. but 2024 has been mid for the series
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YTstill better than Cup
NASCAR doesn't care as long as the TV checks keep getting cashed. It doesn't matter to them if nobody watches and nobody goes to the tracks.
People are watching though. It is much cheaper and easier to watch on the TV.
@@Johnny-es1wlThe ratings disagree
@@DerrickRG 3 to 4 million every week proves otherwise.
@@DerrickRG 3 to 4 mill every week kind of says yes
If nobody watches or goes those checks stop! That comment made absolutely no sense
Nothing like a 1000horses and soft tires on 3/4 and under💎
Have to get rid of Next Gen and go back to solid rear end 5 lug narrow tires and transmission with 4 gears. It’s Stock car racing not sports car!
Oh no. They can't do that. I wonder how many gen6 cars are under covers at race shops waiting for this day? NASCAR really hosed the teams over, forcing them into this new car and leaving them nowhere to go.
They canned all of the old cars? And had to buy all new inventory. I remember them even having a shortage when they first started racing gen7;cars. Scared to tear them up.
Bring back carburetors!! That’s REAL!!
@@NeedsLessWedgeI heard the cars went from costing $150K to costing $425k. Makes no sense. I thought nascar was trying to save money for teams.
@@MRGandeeNascrap said this kit car would be cost effective but it’s not! Tony gave an interview last season & he said it’s costing teams more! Remember how Nascrap said it would help bring new teams in? Where are the new teams outside of 2311 & junkhouse? Steve Phelps has to go, as do the rest of the yes men in nascar!
I wish they would just adopt what INDYCAR does with different packages for different tracks. There cars are modular and all the aero is bolt on. These cars need bolt on parts and swappable pieces for different tracks.
Dale, please bring the Stickered Up podcast to Dirty Mo media! We need more CARS Tour coverage
I mean, I know it's complicated with all the seats at the table...and this day in age where danger is taboo...but Bill France Sr opened Daytona and it was scary...and the drivers drove. Tires that wear can be part of the solution...but when you're advertising as the best circuit in all of motorsports and clearly want the ratings and attendance to show that, you have to be willing to allow the RACE cars to outperform today's production cars. If a ZL1 or Hellcat has more HP and top speed than a daytona car...or a Martinsville car, that is terrible...and you can't put crap tires on and expect fans to ignore the elephant that has been killing nascar since 2007.
Great show, keep fighting the good fight for short track racing Junior.
Love the look of the Sun Drop car.
Same. Just got the diecast.
@bighand1530 the new one? It's available now?
Hey Dale, you talk about cup racing being out of your budget and you can't build a car as an independent and go race anymore. What about late model racing? A late model car is now upwards of 100 grand brand new bumper to bumper and the CARS tour is fueling these high prices. Why not try and help grass roots Friday and Saturday racers with some rules and sanctioning that lower the price tag. Your helping drive nails in late model racing coffin. The average person can't hustle enough to put a competive car together when these guys are paying crazy money on pull down rigs and chassis dynos to win 4 and 5 thousand dollar purses. Nascar late model races are paying around 1500.00. Where is the feasibility in this? You say it's your dream to race, it's also my dream and many other blue collar guys to short track race
this is america, you'll never be able to compete with capital, it's exploitation all the way down
You added 12" of contact patch for the tires and took all the horse power away. Can't imagine why nobody spins tires off the corner or slides up. You could cut the spoiler off and these cars would still not wreck. Run the rain tires on the dry, give them 1000 hp, make bumpers not line up and get back to not shifting at short tracks. It's a crutch for terrible corners and gets rid of the penalty for missing corners.
Appreciate the WWE talk at the start. Motor racing and professional wrestling podcast for me is just perfect.
JR did good job of calling Denny a POS without calling him one
Jr is dennys boss... action detrimental is a dirty mo media production so i hardly think so.
My son and I went to Martinsville for the first time ever. He is a big Hendrick fan - he is happy no matter what Hendrick driver wins. After the race his comment was ‘that was a one and done for him - not an interesting race for him - no need to go back to Martinsville’
Junior, Your show is better to watch than a Live Nascar Race!
I used to watch the WWF Wrestling back in the 80's too but a few years earlier than you in the Hulk Hogan Era. I worked swing shift and while the wife worked Saturday morning I'd watch my 2 toddlers by laying in bed face down while they watched the wrestling show and beat me up climbing all over me. It was like a great massage until my daughter started going to the top rope and doing a knee drop in the middle of my back. We stopped after that!
Tires that wear are fine. Tires that blow out and someone gets hurt is another.
No diffuser, no splitter, 850 hp, give teams the option to choose between, hard, medium, and soft tire compounds like F1. There’s your fix.
F1 has three diff compounds. Soft , medium and hard. Agreed
And teams can use them All, when they want.
If I recall they must use them all in one event, but I may be confusing them with Indy.
I also think raising ride heights will cause more body roll.
Also softer/skinnier sway bars would cause more roll.
The short side wall makes the car snappy and less forgiving when it yaws.
And make the damn cars a little susceptible to damage…too tough and rigid as well.
Xfinity Series is much better racing and the trucks is probably the best.
@@stevefarthing8745 I do wish the Xfinity cars had a taller front bumper or some reinforcement. It would have saved half the field and been a different race after the missed shift.
@@NeedsLessWedge Definitely confusing with Indy. F1 must change compound during the race, but no requirement to use all 3. F1 tire "strategy" is very cut and dry. But I guess at least they have some sort of tire strategy lol.
The transaxle is rated for 750 horsepower. According to the manufacturer Xtrac. As this was the specification they were given by NASCAR. While the chosen gear ratios and the manufacturers insistence of there being a Limited Slip Differential (since that is what is used in road cars). Is yet another hurdle.
I used to Hate u and the 24 but the respect I have for both of u is immeasurable...after I lost my Dad I 💯 understand.....keep on keeping on NASCAR would die without u and Kenny Wallace
I think is time for another company to make short track tires. Maybe Hoosier they race every Saturday night.
Until something is done about the tires and shifting, the short track racing will continue to suffer.
Interesting that you discuss the WWE and pre determined results, thats exactly what I thought happened at Martinsville.
😂😂😂😂😂… the script they sent me was a 1234 finish Bowman Elliot Larson Willie B
@@darrelladams4188I mean when all that talked about all week was it being Hendricks 40th anniversary at that specific track it was kind of obvious who would be winning
Jeff Gordon said you couldn’t have scripted this any better
I don’t think it’s ‘scripted’ that rigidly- but ‘the show’ and cash cows still seem to be nascar’s vision of the ‘customer’ not the racing fans. The fans have become just their vision of the money stream.
NASCAR needs to bring good ol Hit to Pass races to the national stage. Everybody loves em at the local tracks 😂😂
I liked all the Hendrick cars with the Ruby Red color base last weekend. I think I'd like to see all teams have the same color base like that. It doesn't have to be the same each week, but I think it would help fans recognize which drivers are racing for the same team.
Talk to the media people at your favorite team… that’s a branding and marketing component the teams could incorporate and make their brand even more valuable to the sponsors.
If someone is smart and visionary enough to put together an unusual and highly visible project around “the team” aspect it would be a very inexpensive (comparatively) way to get major numbers of eyes outside and beyond just the racing community subset.
There’s magic to be made offtrack in NASCAR that virtually nobody is doing or has done.
What do I know? Nothin… but sometimes I think someone should hire me to script some of the ‘create chaos’ moments Harvick talks about- but you can do ‘chaos’ that doesn’t have negative aspects / fights involved if you have the vision.
The FACT that the trucks and xfinity vehicles are FASTER than the CUP CARS says it all. That is what they should be questioning! 😮
When I retired it honestly took me about 2 years to feel right about it. To allow myself to sleep in & not feel guilty. I finally figured out that we become so conditioned that we have to contribute to society that when we have put in our time & we've done enough, we can relax & enjoy ourselves now, that we are so conditioned that we have to get up & take on the world that it is hard to be able to allow ourselves to relax & not have anxiety about it. So that's why we feel funny about relaxing when others are working. IMO 😎
Great damn show ! Saved the best news for the end .
Great episode!
55:25 Dale says doo-doo 😂😂
I've been pulling for that 24 car since 1997, glad to pull for a real racer that loves his job again. #24
I think options between hard and soft tires would do a lot
This started when guaranteed starting spots were introduced. This is simply the second step of that, where owners get to complain about not making money, while the sport and tracks are raking in billions.
it seems like a charter system with a better allowance for open cars would be best. It makes sense you need a required number of cars to always show up for the race to happen but you also want to attract new people.
On the current status of the Next Gen/Gen 7 race car. The Xtrac transaxle is developed and constructed to rate for 750 horsepower. So any higher horsepower will likely hand grenade the gearbox and differential. To if this was beefed up, would add more cost in so doing. If it is indeed possible
If you were still racing Man , you wouldn’t be able to do such a quality job with your podcast, 🏁🏁🇺🇸🇺🇸
I like Harvicks solution, enough HP to burn the tires off. It seems that NASCAR is very reluctant to increase HP. The other solution is develop a tire like the Bristol tire, but it seems like Goodyear is reluctant to do that.
There's too much sharing between the teams.
Too much parity.
The fact that they can see all the data from everything instantly doesn’t help. They need to axe that
Nah 😂
Newly moved to central Virginia, now a huge fan of short track racing. Keep second date in Richmond!!!
Hell yeah! New River All-American Speedway, Jacksonville, NC! Everyone come on down! Four local divisions racing friday night, two local divisions, Grand National Super Series and CARS Tour racing on Saturday! Drum Racing will be there running in bombers friday night!!
Brother, load up that late model and bring it to Lebanon I-44 Speedway this season!!
#2... The difference between Bristol and Martinsville was two-fold... 1) Different tire. 2) Elton Sawyer was attempting damage control prior to the end of Bristol (for the phenominal tire wear) and him downright apologizing to the fans for the product that was Martinsville.
The answer is absolutely sitting right in front of our noses. Will NASCAR bite?
i mean i have been missing the races just because i don't do cable and sunday is my day off but short tracks used to be the most exciting tracks imo, crazy to hear this kind of talk
Narrow the tires by 1" for short tracks. F1 is doing that for 2026 btw. That seems like the cheapest option.
I'm only here for the BIRD-DOGS!!!!!!🤣🤣
Start the races at 12:30 pm est
I have been saying return to 1pm start times for East Coast races!
All Sunday races (except holiday weekends: Coca Cola 600, Southern 500) should start at 1 PM local time.
The real kick in the nuts is how good the short track racing is especially in xfinity series.
Everybody keep bitchin', Nascar will listen eventually.
Not as long as Steve O'Donnell holds a position of power.
That's the problem Nascar will eventually listen to fans, who don't have a clue what they want to see on the track
I havent watched a full season since 2006 or so
As long as STEVE PHELPS is in charge, NOT Steve O’Donnell, NOTHING will get done to give us racing back! Just watch the modified’s instead!
ODonnell and Phelps are both trash
Then gen 7 sucks and nascar has no excuses for it. They tested it for three years, how was it possible for them to even mess it up?!
From 1981-1989 over 130 drivers PER YEAR attempted to qualify for at least one race. Over 100 drivers per year started at least one race. Now that number is under 40. Kinda sad really. So many great stories that will never get a chance to happen.
What I don’t understand is how dirt track racing still draws the car counts. Even at obscure tracks if they offer $10,000 to win the teams come flocking.
I didn’t have any issues with the Martinsville race or the Richmond race. I just enjoy watching the races because I love NASCAR. I did think it was kinda ridiculous to see teams going 130+ laps without pitting on a short track though.
I feel the same way. But I’ve only been watching Live races sense the Next Gen. ofc I go back and watch old races but I didn’t really Experience it
I get a lotta people say this short track package isn’t good but this is just all I know.
I can’t enjoy races where there’s zero competition. Stage 1 the top 10 never changed outside of logano and Denny swapping 1 and 2
You must like watching model trains go in a loop under your Christmas tree then... Because this wasn't racing
I love Cup racing & I hate what nascar has done to this series! Racing is supposed to be competitive where it’s the best car/driver winning! This IS NOT RACING what we have now! This kit car is a huge part of the problem! Nascar is being Nascrap & refusing to give teams more HP, (among other things)!
@@user-zq1px9yb7g nascar is getting what they want. They like everyone being jumbled up in one shot on camera. It’s pathetic.
I just can't help but feel that Smoke's criticism of Goodyear and the '08 Brickyard have ingrained this fear of negative on track comments hurting public road drivers' confidence in their product.
Saddest part about this Gen7 car is that it has sooo much potential that we all saw at Le Mans... We get stuck with this watered down, massively expensive POS. Speaks to the state of this Nation actually.
Good video Dale
Great words Junior!
WWE is like is soap opera for men. That's what makes it so awesome! My 15-year-old is completely addicted
Good show...
It's time to come to terms with the guys. The next gen car is a sports car, not a stock car like the old days. No solid rear axle, No stiff suspension, No 4-speed manual. Let's face it. Short track racing is never going to be what it was during the Gen 6 or the COT or any era of NASCAR. It's a sports car essentially in the racing. While it could be made, good is never going to be like classic NASCAR short track racing, so we might as well move on from that now
Too bad srx went tits up, because it was classic short class racing on a CBS prime time during its first year.
Thank you
As much as I hated on Mike, I miss him. Where is he?
Talking about how on significant moments like this, 40 years of wins with HMS. Would you say there are owners/drivers who have hit on that kind of combination each and every weekend and not just special moments.
Take a cup car body and put it on a truck chassis. The truck series never disappoints on short tracks.

There is too much good stuff to comment on this vid, in one comment, lol. But, here's my first one... Herman is the best. I've been a fan of his for better than 20 years. Always entertaining 😁
Race at Martinsville was so bad, that I had to go watch a gen 4 car race to clean my eyes from it... 1998 race was super! Even the tv coverage was better

The answer to the short track package is to let teams do tech for themselves

Might be your sign to quit the Boose and parting when you start fighting and breaking stuff. Find a better crowd to be around.
Nascar 2039 will be two teams, owned by two megacorps, rife with career exploiters, with 17 cars each.
I have no clue what NASCAR will be like in 2039. 5,379 days left. Also, ever seen the Watchman River channel?
A sport emerges with two super teams, all the money, best of everything and the sport dies. I know this is not nearly the same level, but years ago in Unlimited Hydroplane racing two teams emerged as the super teams, The Budweiser owned by Bernie Little, and the Atlas Van Lines/Miller American owned by Fran Muncie. The other smaller teams, family owned or volunteer dependent couldn’t keep up and rarely won. Then you really throw the monkey wrench in and the super teams start running turbine engines while the others are running Roles Royce Merlin engines. It seems as if everytime the playing field changes, trouble will never be far behind. Melissa K.
I think the best racing has been the bigger race tracks and the short tracks and road courses suck 😅
It’s Goodyear building NASCAR tires designed for each track.
I think nascar should learn some lessons from F1. Give the teams three different tire compounds and the teams must use each compound in the race. Also for safety concern, they need to require a min 😊
54:20 is a total preacher moment
Full heel Herman!
I get the heritage.I've never enjoyed Martinsville, all the way back to the 80s.I would start to watch the race and change the Channel Not hardly anyone passing its a waste of the new car. Skilled drivers but no show
Charter and spec car are like NIL. Opened a can of worms that u cannot recover from
Dale! We need hell raisers. Nascars become so damn PC and its drivers have no real life experiences getting out and being social like normal ppl, not famous guys, we need those guys. Dont tell these boys they cant go have fun on tuesdays
I’ve noticed myself looking forward to the Xfinity series races more than the Cup races lately and it’s sad. They don’t race like stock cars anymore 👎🏻

There's Bowman Gray/ Caraway short track racing, and NASCAR short track racing...why is one so much fun every Saturday night, and the other a one lane no passing bore fest. The difference from small short tracks they let them race there, rivalry is ongoing.....The next generation cars are a bore fest.
It's never too late. They need to pave Bristol.

HOW COME NO ONE ACTUALLY INTERVIEWS THE TRUE NASCAR FAN AFTER A RACE?????? NOT ONE MEDIA OUTFIT WILL DO IT. THEY ARE AFRAID OF THE TRUTH. LOOK, WE HAVE BEEN ATTENDING BMS SINCE THE 80S....... TERRIBLE THE PAST FIVE YEARS
They have the fan council, but I'm not sure they actually take it seriously, plus ask stupid questions that make the gimmicks look good, like do you want close racing or more spread out racing, I get the surveys in my email but I'm not sure they do any good or give fans a real voice.
He hates that last shot now!!
Good! We need people to start getting pissed off about this crap. Drivers/owners and other people of influence to the sport need to be stop beating around the bush and demand answers and change from NASCAR. Need a group with some balls to say the hell with what NASCAR says and go and do their own changes and testing and show the results.
spool diff, cars not harder to drive, mistakes increase, racing gets more exciting
I went to sleep during Bristol after 5 minutes of who will get lucky and win , I want a fair race but anyways we can never catch old Dale Sr years so I watch F -1 and street racing now

That’s because they managed to create the perfect product for that sport over many decades, and don’t fiddle with it.
