- Strategies for getting a host professor for a postdoctoral researcher or postdoctoral fellow position in Germany are discussed. This applies to the Humboldt, DAAD, DFG, Max Planck and other German funded postdoctoral research opportunities. Anyone who wants to do postdoctoral studies in Germany will find the process of getting a host quite onerous. A doctoral program which leads to a PhD, doctor of philosophy or doctorate degree is needed to pursue postdoctoral studies. A postdoctoral fellowship in Germany can boost your CV or curriculum vitae and help you get a lucrative faculty position or professor job at a top university or research institute.

Fellowship provides funding for a period of study or research for a scholar. Your son can apply for the Humboldt fellowship for example. This will pay him a monthly stipend, travel cost, etc to work at a university on a research problem of his choice.

While applying for the the position in university do I need to mention the fellowship name which I want to receive or after getting selected and joined the university I need to apply for fellowship separately?
For fellowships like the Humboldt you first need to find a host and write a proposal which he approves of and then submit your application to the Humboldt foundation on their web portal. If you get the fellowship both you and your host will be informed.

On the other hand if you directly get a postdoc job offer from a professor which he supports from his grant funds then you don’t need any other fellowships.

Through your literature survey for PhD you should know several German professors. You can find others by checking papers from Germany in the area of safety science. Send emails to these people after forming some draft idea of a problem. See my postdoc videos for more info.

Some fellowships have age limits in terms of years after PhD. Like the Humboldt fellow. If you ask people in Germany directly, they may have funding from projects for you. Check my postdoc playlist for more info.

Will be difficult to get funds from most professors. You
May want to ask them to just host your visit and then write a proposal to the humboldt foundation with their name as the host professor. Humboldt in fact pays some money to the host for their lab etc to encourage a person to host people. See these videos

Okay, as you say. Humboldt is very prestigious fellowship for postdoc but fellowship is only 2680 💶 ie almost 2.4 laks however any fellowship in US generally gives arround 5 lakhs=5600 usd/pm. I know Humboldt has many other advantages but still, it is low
@@cashkumar8237 Yes what you say is true. 15-20 years ago, it was still around 2000 or so. But at that time this amount was good especially for Indians. Other postdocs may pay more. For example NRC etc. these videos will help

I should add that Humboldt is willing to fund all types of proposals so it is good for these in narrow areas of research which don’t get much popular funding. But in us most postdoc funds are in hot areas like life sciences and others are restricted to us citizens due to their being close to defence industry. Most us professors are reluctant to fund postdocs unless they bring their own money through some grant like Fulbright etc.
