  • Since I started getting myself stuck down a Shinatro Kago rabbit hole recently and after getting some physical copies of his manga books, I felt compelled to dedicate a video to him . To do an almost book review video on a couple of my personal favourites. Welcome to another video everyone. I invite you to witness some of the bizarre manga art of Shintaro Kago.
A huge thank you to PHANTASMIC for providing me with some amazing Shintaro Kago material to work with for today's video. Please head to their website to check out their online store: phantasmic.com/

Shintaro kago is one of those Mangakas that for me perfectly capture the bizarreness and eerieness the human brain can reach with its disturbing and vast imagination. It is as if intruisive ,intriguing and creative cluster thoughts get together in one place to create these kind of odd visuals.

Some of Kago's works have been translated, like Super-Dimensional Love Gun, Princess of the Never-Ending Castle, and Dementia 21. If you like his lighter stuff with social critique, I highly recommend Dementia 21. I would also like to see you cover Maruo Suehiro, another eroguro nansensu artist. I feel like people often forget how satirical the genre can be, how feminist it can be on some aspects, which is why I find eroguro so fascinating.

Shintaro Kago is definitely one of my favorite manga artists out there. It's so good to see more people appreciate his work. If you're looking for anything kind of similar, then I'd have to recommend Portus by Jun Abe. It covers pretty heavy topics, but the art style is so unique and surreal that you can't stop reading. The artist's style also creates a sense of discomfort via different angles and extreme close-ups in a way that is honestly pretty unsettling. Loved the video!!

I never dreamed I'd see a video from you discussing eroguro, much less Shintaro Kago, but as someone who's enjoyed both for years now, it makes me so happy to see it. It's just a shame you can't cover a LOT of his work on youtube, given how explicit it is. (For those who aren't familiar with his work: it really does get very sexually explicit, and very disgusting at times as well. So please be careful if you decide to look into his work after watching this video!)

If you like Kago's stuff, I suggest taking a gander at Furuya Usamaru's works. Other more left-field artists include Umezz Kazuo, Maruo Suehiro, Inuki Kanako, Nekojiru, or any other artists published in the Garo magazines.

I recently discovered him earlier this year after reverse image searching Eevvee’s Beat Tape 07 album art! I have to say that Harem End is my current favorite prolly cuz it’s the first one I decided to read. I’m a 3D animator too so it’s interesting to see how something so fun and creative can be twisted into something so brutal! Every time I think I find something so unbelievable though, I can’t help but think: if this can be imagined/thought up of…does that mean it’s happened or happening in our real world? Has some disturbed individual really tried to animated via stop motion but using real bodies strung up on poles and wires?

You posted this barely 7 minutes ago but I'm already writing the comment. I found Shintaro Kago 15 years ago with his ero guro manga. At that time his completely emotionless scenes of s*x intertwined with non-standard guro really repulsed me. 15 years later I revisited his manga works and it clicked with me. Those 10-20 page works have very spartan presentation, but are very intense. There is a big gap between current Kago work, which mostly presents heads exploding in abstract shapes and his previous, provocative and satirical works. "Ultra Power Mongol Invasion" is very close to this provocative yet satirical style. "Six Consciousnesses Thought Changing Ataraxia" is still my favorite.

For some time I was immersed in the underground manga culture and there is some really weird stuff out there. One of the most emblematic in the eroguro is Suehiro Maruo. His stories also have no sense at all most of the time. I also recommend looking for new types of artists, like Uno Moralez. That is a mix of Junji Ito, Maruo and Moebius. I could never truly understand his short comics. It is all deep into symbolism. Like Jodorowsky doing a webcomic.

as someone who is going through kago's entier body of work, i can safely say that feeding amputated hands human blood for war is not the most insane thing he has come up with. hes made a manga called dance! kremlin palace that's essentially his usual work fused with political satire themed around communism and the ussr, and one of the stories in there ends with two women using the ghosts of stalin and trotsky like jojo stands in an epic battle that ends up creating an explosion that the manga compares to the tunguska event. no i did not make that up

Refreshing in so many ways! I find his gory side a bit rehashing, we've seen so much blood splattering over the years and it has never found grace in my eyes, but in Mongolian Invasion he really gets into his stride and breaks truly new ground. Manga and anime I find dull, vulgar and too repetitive so this looks to be a great relief.
When I consider many of the dreams I have I don't find M.I. that wild, just wonderfully honest and truly visionary.
Why noy cast off the shackles of conformity and set drift on the sea of possibilities and leave the safe behind. We only truly move forward like this with insanity/surealism. Where would the world be today without Bosch, Monty Python, Bunuel, Lorca etc?
    We need the absurd !
