I have bipolar disorder as well as PTSD (bad genes with a frightening childhood and an unbelievably fucked up father), but I've worked hard for years to learn how to manage it. I'm proud of that fact.
And a big part of learning to live with my disorders was to separate myself from my illnesses. I'm not PTSD, I'm not BPD. So...why mention it? I don't mean usual support from groups and therapists and close family/friends. I mean using it as an excuse, carrying the around my neck like a cross.
