I love that poster he has of the Yogscast game that was kickstarted, fully funded, and then cancelled when the developers had no idea what they were doing without refunding _anyone._
Yeah it was. They chose a indy studio that barely had anything under their belt, and they pocketed 3 million of the kickstarter money. And instead of giving the money back to the people who donated, they decided to give them a "code" to a crappy open world game that still to this day has barely anyone playing it. It is completely their fault. They trust a 10 million dollar project to a indy studio, get mad at them when they constantly pressure them and get on their backs, and then when they pocket 3 million of the kickstarter money, refuse to give it back, and instead give a code to a game NOBODY THAT FUNDED THEIR GAME WANTED TO PLAY OR KNEW EXISTED, and you say its NOT THEIR FAULT? They took 3 million dollars from their fans and never gave it back, and instead decided to blame a development company that they KNEW barely had any games under their belt, because they wanted to be CHEAP. It is their fault, not the game company's fault. End of story bro. :/
+Tristalimore not exactly, like I agree with you but it's 50% being tricked into donating money but also 50% being stupid and donating money to an idea in the first place
I want to see this guy try and pull it off with 100 times the money he asked for. it should be a TV show: "wasting on the wastes", give a random guy 4M £ and see if he can achieve his idea spoiler alert: he can't
It's not even a good idea. Or well thought out. He basically described fallout. Just with some bullshit shop system no one will use and he won't be able to implement.
@Atharv Naidu yeah you right, but that's pretty extreme of an example. If its just a dude making a piece of shit project, I think its better than someone that did nothing at all.
@Atharv Naidu ah, i see. Yeah, I get what youre saying now, and I agree. I think it's important to execute, but important to do things efficiently as well(planning etc). Not beating around the bush like you said.
Actually, Fallout 76 has a pretty neat shop system. You basically have vending machines in your settlement that you can allocate your stored items into and other players can come and go and buy the items from the vending machines, everyone uses them! This is not to say the game itself is the best
Holy shit! This is a good idea guys. An open world MMO in which you try and survive in the post apocalyptic wasteland! Brilliant! I mean you could even go out build towns and such, maybe put down generators, turrets, and other means of protection! Oh and you could control it all from a terminal of some kind! Someone should take this idea to a big studio to make it! Possibly.... Bethesda?
lmao no matter how godly a coder you are, you couldn't pull of something of that scale, you need to do modelling, texturing, soundwork ect. and a single guy just can't do that. (if you used fo4's assets it could be done especially if you wrote up something to convert the map files to the frostbite ones)
Gta5 cost 250 million dollars to make. Made by an already efficient, well refined studio. Although I hear the founders of rockstar hang their pokemon posters diagonally too...

It’s not even just games. It’s literally anything creative. Everyone has ideas for movies, games, comics, literature, tv shows, and inventions. But it takes time, effort, and knowledge (and honestly more) to make any project work.
I think people take it to the other extreme and say ideas don’t matter at all. Ideas are the most important part of game design. It’s just “make me a post-apocalyptic world simulator for forty grand pls.” isn’t an idea. These people never have an idea that’s worth a shit in the first place. A person smart enough to have a good game idea, would be unentitled enough to learn how to actually make games before pitching one.
Does this guy even know how to write at least a single line of code? I'm working on my own game, by myself. it took me a year to finish the actual story. I'm not even in the process of creating an actual level, it's just test levels and concept towns. So i have no idea why this hipster thought he could just come up with an idea and just "POP" a new game into existence.
mario167100 yeah, my friend has been learning code and drawing up concept art and creating lore and planning out how things will work in hopes of making a huge game
Interestingly, there's a Yogventures poster in the background. Another Kickstarter project. Even more interestingly, it was funded fully but then the Yogs realised they couldn't make the game, so they abandoned it. Poetic irony.
Blizzard tried making a game with similar concepts and it crashed and burned before anyone knew it existed. If it's too hard for a company that made the biggest mmo in the world, it's too hard for pretty much anybody else.

Oh shit he is making Fallout 4 with multiplayer
or "making"
+Laughing Stockpile of course you could just get fallout 4 on PC, and wait for someone to mod in multiplayer to it
+Puudelimorso That or just play a Post Apocalyptic MMO that already exists like Fallen Earth. Even though it kindof sucks.
+SA8TER21 it's still probably better than his idea

Remember when Markus "Notch" Persson asked for 500,000 Swedish Krona to make Minecraft? Oh yeah, no, he didn't. He sat crouched in front of his computer for years on end designing the game.
And it’s still a glitched up mess
He adapted a different game that had its source leaked. He wasn't some pioneer. He just sold it well.
@@encycl07pedia- Nah he started off using code from one of his own previous games and an open source game, which was very similar to minecraft but even shittier.
@@murdercloak7578 I’m no Minecraft kid but no I’m pretty sure it’s pretty clean, well loved and one of the largest gaming franchises yet made.

he pitched fallout 4

yeah
He described 7 days to die better
With that £2 he made a time machine to send him into the past and found Bethesda, where he eventually moved on to create fallout 76.
A little software Dev here, not a game developer tho.
Imagine how much a MMORPG would actually cost, some ideas:
You have to spend money for:
Human Ressources
-Lawyers
-Game designers
-Project managers
-Marketing experts
-Technical Support
-Accounters
-Voice Actors
-SFX Designers
-.....There are surely a bunch more
Hardware:
-A bunch of PC's
-I/O Devices (Keyboards, monitors, mouses...)
-Network patches and cables
- Servers
- Backup servers
Software:
-Accounting Software
-Development Software
- OS Licenses
- Photoshop
- A hefty game engine
- whatever you need for SFX
- Video editing Software
Data:
- A whole lot of assets
- musical compositions
General Stuff:
-Company rooms
- A license to distribute the game
- Electricity
- Taxes
- Marketing campaigns
- Internet
-......I can't take this anymore its just to much
Just to name a few things. Can you really afford this with a meager 40.000 $?
(boys, its a rhetorical question, just saying)
Tom Wellbrock how much
For an AAA titles yes you would need all that, but youd be suprised what a couple of game dev students can do with a low budget and a well designed game. (probbaly excluding the online stuff tho)

+Mister Dinner Hold up. This one is on to something.
I love that poster he has of the Yogscast game that was kickstarted, fully funded, and then cancelled when the developers had no idea what they were doing without refunding _anyone._
I know right hopefully they pick up again on It one day
they lost all the money, its never coming back. they just scammed a fuck ton of money and ran with it.
+Teddy Vee it wasn't yogscast fault though

I want to see this guy try and pull it off with 100 times the money he asked for. it should be a TV show: "wasting on the wastes", give a random guy 4M £ and see if he can achieve his idea
spoiler alert: he can't
PufferBoss i would watch this
It's not even a good idea. Or well thought out. He basically described fallout. Just with some bullshit shop system no one will use and he won't be able to implement.
@Atharv Naidu He's better than someone that tries to make their idea a reality?
@Atharv Naidu yeah you right, but that's pretty extreme of an example. If its just a dude making a piece of shit project, I think its better than someone that did nothing at all.
@Atharv Naidu and you can learn best by attempting things
@Atharv Naidu ah, i see. Yeah, I get what youre saying now, and I agree. I think it's important to execute, but important to do things efficiently as well(planning etc). Not beating around the bush like you said.
Actually, Fallout 76 has a pretty neat shop system. You basically have vending machines in your settlement that you can allocate your stored items into and other players can come and go and buy the items from the vending machines, everyone uses them! This is not to say the game itself is the best
he could do it on Roblox
Matt Wagnone Oof
He genuinely could to be honest
Well it could save money but how is he going to implement a building feature? he might as well do it in Minecraft.
Testfniau 64 There are many games like that on roblox, its easy scripting
Or Minecraft
The $40,000 was just to fund his college tuition, so he could learn how to make games in the first place.

Bethesda?

It sounds good but HE couldn't do this.
Cody Player maybe but leave it to someone who's good at coding
lmao no matter how godly a coder you are, you couldn't pull of something of that scale, you need to do modelling, texturing, soundwork ect. and a single guy just can't do that. (if you used fo4's assets it could be done especially if you wrote up something to convert the map files to the frostbite ones)

these people are called "idea guys" if you want to make a gamedev roll it's eyes, tell him/her you have a great idea for a game.
Zamuroy Unless your idea is to rerelease Skyrim
Zamuroy first thing our intro to game design professor told us. Too true.
It’s not even just games. It’s literally anything creative. Everyone has ideas for movies, games, comics, literature, tv shows, and inventions. But it takes time, effort, and knowledge (and honestly more) to make any project work.
Cous.. Or some say cousin. Did you get my call?
