DA:I looked dramatically different compared to the previous two entries and, of course, the bloat...all this to say: hating on DA isn't new. Try the game and see if you like it for yourselves. My standards must not be as high as all of these people with harsh criticisms because I started with 2, then origins and inquisition, and loved them all.
You’re right. There has been a needless amount of whining in regards to this game. Some of it understandable because we are seeing but not experiencing it yet. But people will be miserable for the sake of being miserable these days.
This has nothing to do with the quality of the game, the hate train is a campaign by anti Woke anti DEI people that can't fathom that pronounces in a game will not destroy the western world.
>DA:2 was bashed for its limited gameplay I haven't heard this piece of criticism in particular. Ever. - It's often bashed - and rightfully so - for the reused locations and the lack of scenery variety. - The lack of outfit options for your companions isn't a welcome change too. - Encounter design could use some work from a tactial standpoint - Some of the choices on a writers part are baffling, like fusing Anders with Justice. - Some of the quests are obviously undercooked, like the last one not making any sense if you side with mages But the gameplay was perfectly fine, unlike, say, the Inqustion, where tactics was gutted. Second, can I get the citation? According to the "Blood, Sweat and Pixels", the development of DA:I was a horror show on many levels. Working with Frostbite was a nightmare, the vision for the game was incoherent, hence, say, hinterlands was a thing and then they decided that it was a failed experiment, sections of the game - like a boat segment - were scrapped and a lot of people were crushed by the brutal crunch to the point of having a breakdown. Doesn't sound like the environment where devs can freely implement their perfect vision. >combat being completely different The problem isn't that it's different. The problem is that it's dogshit. This will most likely be a VERY unpopular opinion, but I would be thrilled if the first three games were completely remastered using this current engine. While keeping each game’s unique gameplay system intact. With minor improvements where needed. This video shows how far BioWare has grown from the robotic movement, repetitive facial expressions and hand gestures. This is fluid, varied, and naturalistic animation. And it performs well in comparison to many supposed AAA titles in recent years. As much as I loved the previous games when they released, I much prefer this over the clunkiness of the past.
actually the 3rd game is made on this same engine, but i imagine in the 10 years in between they tweaked it to hell and back since this enging was made for shooters in the beginning anyway haha
You can't remaster a game with a new engine. It would require an entire remake, which I agree with. Also inquisition was on frostbite. And I don't think this is a "VERY unpopular opinion".
Not possible. This game is smaller in scope than the past ones. Janky animations are inevitable when dealing with huge games. Also because people would call it "clunky", they need to record new lines for origins. Imagine recording all the dialogue for the HOF with their multiple origins and races.

@@maharaja101 The art style doesn’t seem very different from Inquisition to me. The biggest change looks to be in the combat system. Inquisition had clunky, MMO-style combat and a strategy mode that wasn’t very effective. This game seems to have made combat more fluid, which is an improvement. Ideally, I’d prefer something more tactical, like Origins. But if it’s a choice between solid real-time combat and something awkward in between, I’d go with the former.
@@Plexy__music The artstyle isn't that different from Inquisition, its just higher fidelity version of it. They did redesign the demons and the darkspawn, which will bother people. The dual upscale thing is something I've wanted for a LONG time. Seeing it here just solidifies that this is a FANTASTIC PC port. I love being able to use temporal upscaling and spatial upscaling with separate values. Sometimes you just don't need to upscale into such a high-resolution canvas, but dropping the internal resolution too far from the native resolution will produce different looking artifacts. I haven't heard this piece of criticism in particular. Ever.
- It's often bashed - and rightfully so - for the reused locations and the lack of scenery variety.
- The lack of outfit options for your companions isn't a welcome change too.
- Encounter design could use some work from a tactial standpoint
- Some of the choices on a writers part are baffling, like fusing Anders with Justice.
- Some of the quests are obviously undercooked, like the last one not making any sense if you side with mages

I liked DA:O, I liked DA2 despite the obvious lack of polish, I preordered DA:I and I got a turd on plate with some nuggets here and there.
Why should I care about their vision?
Second, can I get the citation?
According to the "Blood, Sweat and Pixels", the development of DA:I was a horror show on many levels. Working with Frostbite was a nightmare, the vision for the game was incoherent, hence, say, hinterlands was a thing and then they decided that it was a failed experiment, sections of the game - like a boat segment - were scrapped and a lot of people were crushed by the brutal crunch to the point of having a breakdown.
Doesn't sound like the environment where devs can freely implement their perfect vision.
>combat being completely different
The problem isn't that it's different.
The problem is that it's dogshit.
They substituted perfectly capable tactical combat with at the very best mediocre action combat in the Inqusition.

I don't know what the problem is. Drivers are up to date (even did a reinstall), and I'm not even utilizing half of my VRAM. This is pretty disappointing considering how well it runs in this footage.
i5-12600K, 3080, 32G RAM, nvme storage.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I'm having similar issues. R5 3600, 16gigs ram, 3070ti. No matter what settings I change i have sub 60fps in all but the most closed off areas with hard, what I'm assuming is, traversal stutter, maybe.
@@KarneXII I found that switching my RT Reflections to Selective solved all of my problems in Arlathan. I haven't tested other areas yet, but at least in that zone, it's completely fixed.
@KoolPandaz it helps some. Depends on the area.
I feel like the game sometimes just runs like ass and needs a restart or two. Like when Cyberpunk 2077 first launched, sometimes it would run badly for no explainable reason, but it would fix after a restart.
I'm glad. Now, I feel safe purchasing the game!
this game has the "Gamers nexus hair" DLC 😂
Alex praising a new pc game for being unique because it‘s not a complete technical disaster. But at the same time the DF team sells the pc platform to be the most superior gaming platform of them all.
Thanks for the breakdown. This game is gorgeous!
Whenever I find myself curious about the next big gaming outrage tennis match I remind myself that it’s just some turnips having a tanty about something and I don’t actually give a toss.
Looking good! I wasn't sure first about all the fuzz of the hair until now getting a closer look. Looks impressive for sure. So with a AMD Ryzen 9900X and 4070 ti super I should be fine running it all maxed out?
Honestly I am stunned by how polished this game looks. Miraculous considering the development hell it went through. Well done Bioware, this looks like a real winner.
While I have no interest in this game I have to say that the hair does look absolutely amazing. Apparently it runs well as well and that's good news. I'll just leave it at that.
And what about AMD vs nVidia comparisons?
This is the best I've seen Frosbite look
it's a gorgeous engine, Need For Speed 2015 is still an artistic masterpiece
Looks stunning TBH
Yeah it's really butting heads with industry colloses like Skyrim and Far Cry Primal and dare I say, even Witcher 3
@handle32169 idk. I think the Red engine is a force to be reckoned with. We'll be blown away when Witcher 4 starts showing up. I didn't even put Frostbite anywhere near the top. It is now tho. But I think UE5 and Luminous still reign supreme. Too bad Luminous is no more tho
@@Jun3Bugg Luminous? Do you mean Lumen?
Glad everyone has "return RUclips dislike" enabled apparently. Good stuff. And a good video. And if it makes internet neets cry, it must be an amazing game.
Indeed, I get not liking the art stlye, or having grievances. But coming to a video that only talks about the technical side to be jackasses because they dare say something nice is snowflake behavior.
It shouldn't be this surprising to see a well optimised and highly performant PC game in 2024... but I'll happily take that pleasant surprise.
I totally agree that on GPU side the game is well optimized but it's very very CPU intensive. I have a 10900k and i'm cpu limited in many areas and I fall under 50 fps while my gpu has 90% usage. My 10900k is using around 200W most of the time and can go higher, it's usually between 60 and 80% usage. You can't call a game well optimized when a 4 yo 10 core high end cpu can't reach constant 60 fps.
Frostbite engine games are heavily intensive on the CPU side. Thanks god for DLSS frame generation
In Peace,Vigilance.
I War,Victory.
In Death.Sacrifice .
That is what it meant to be a Grey Warden.
The Oath.
And there are some here.
I have an RTX 4070ti super paired with the Ryzen 7800X3D and I get very noticeable frame drops and stutters every few random minutes. Maybe I should cap the frame rate as suggested here!
Some people just enjoy being angry. Glad to hear that the pc version wasn't compromised. Being released on steam day one with no DRM is wild. Still waiting for more reviews on the gameplay and game mechanics. I appreciate you guys on always providing detailed tech information for people like me that enjoy benchmarking and tweaking in game settings. Cheers DF crew!
This is so helpful and visual, thank you for such a perfect tech review! I'm glad it's so well optimized compared to most games that come out for pc. Excited to play this the 31st of October.
What was that pop in on the stone with a face around 3:15? Was going so well!
Really looking forward to this game! Reviews seem positive and a great departure from Inquisition! The snowflakes and trolls that never played a DA to begin with will quiet down eventually anyway. Great to hear that it's optimized and a great experience!
He said the buzzwords.
The irony that you call these people snowflakes and trolls but this role playing game you supposedly are excited for wouldn’t let you do that😂
Just a forewarning that EA has been holding back review codes from Reviewers that have had even slightly negative things to say about the game so far. Fextralife has a great video on the whole situation. So while the game may be great on a technical level, maybe wait to purchase until reviews start coming out a couple of weeks after release.
@@chrisgerhard4425this is not true. There's no source for this. Just one guy making it up. The game has 50 reviews up, some highly critical, everyone got the keys a week early. If you had something to hide, why would you give out the keys so early?
Lol I played all of DA and Inquisition was a departure and was ish. What a joke.
Alex sound so happy in this intro. Like if he finally was at peace with the world. I think it makes me happy too.
The only lag he Will find here Is the gameplay itself.
@@lukilladog I have not heard a single well articulated criticism of the game yet.
@@COCOniTOOOOOO Guess you live under a rock
@@COCOniTOOOOOO You didn't watch the Skillup review.
I know this is mainly about visuals and performance, but how is the DualSense support on PC? Thinking of getting it on PC but if there's no adaptive triggers and haptic feedback on PC but on PS5, I'd get it for the latter.
Perfect example of a game that can look great and doesn’t have to be so demanding and you can still play at high frame rate And high Fidelity. Instead of getting a game from UE5 that are too demanding to play on PC.
This is the best looking hair I’ve seen in a video game period
I think DMC5 funnily gets close
Some people say, that the issue is not on the grafics settings, but in the resolution / refresh rate. And Overclockin / undervolting + rivatunner.
I will try to remove the RTSS framecap, and the FPS monitoring, and try stock gpu settings, and caping FPS using game settings, to half my TV refresh rate ( tv = 120hz - will cap ingame to 60FPS).
I will let you know if i'm getting error this way.
UPDATE:
No errors with:
- Set a profile in AMD drivers to use the default clocks of the card;
- Removed RTSS framecap;
- Added in RTSS a exception to DONT detect Dragon Age The Veilguard;
- In game settings, grafics settings to Digital Foundry sugestion;
- In game settings, set the resolution to my 4k TV resolution;
- In game settings, framerate = 60Hz ( my tv superts 120hz )
- In game settings, vsync = on;
- In game settings, FSR on with performance setting.
- No variable resolution.
Very impressive hair tech on this game, really good.
The character design is so bad, so it does not matter if the tech is cool
So stoked that the PC port is good.
People disliking because a TECHNICAL VIDEO doesn't fit their hate narrative. LOL!
They act like the snowflakes they call others. Ironic.
Shoving identity policies into video games. They deserve the hate for supporting them
@@aaronlaughter6471 Coming to the defense of a tech demo, because the game fails as a game and reviewers were bought off to be favorable. “AnTiWokE”-ah shut it. Good to know which channels to unsub from anyhow.

Running the game with a 1060 3GB, Ryzen 5 2400G and 16 GB of RAM on a HDD.
It's fine. Nothing too horrible.
Great to see a modern Western 3rd party game release with great technical ports on all platforms with great settings and no significant technical hiccups. That should be the standard, but sadly is not.
Great Tech Review!!!
Good to see that the game is well optimized on PC and has a lot of visual settings. That’s such a rare thing these days, unfortunately. The hair is genuinely impressive.
Frostbite engine has always been awesome
Finally a pc release that doesn't disappoint, just hearing the lack of disappointment in Alex's voice is great 😂
Game looks really good as well
17:33 Best looking hair in a videogame I've ever seen honestly, it looks incredible
I remember when developers were saying Frostbite was difficult to work with and was only good for shooter games. Not sure it’s gotten any easier to develop for but it’s good to see Frostbite being used in other kinda of games and putting out great graphics.
If more AAA games were released in this state on PC, I might actually consider using mine for once. But I really only ever use it for cRPGs.
Keep your console then, unfortunately some devs will be coerced into UE 5 engine and have bugs and stutter fest
@@pencilcheck I'm gonna keep my console regardless if I end up using my PC more often. There's quite a few older games that are way more convenient to play on console.
But you're right, UE is one of the biggest reasons being a PC gamer today can be annoying. When the most used engine has consistently failed a platform, using said platform can be a nightmare. The past 5 years at least have been rough.
Even if the game itself is terrible, for many reasons, it definitely deserves positive attention for releasing a solid PC port. Thanks for the abalysis, Alex, and I'm glad you got to review something less disappointing for once. 😅
"ITS TERRIBLE" about a game that's not even released. Totally no agenda there at all, lmao
It's nice to see the Frostbite still in good form.
Excellent review. Great to see so many little hiccups in performance and settings menus are addressed here. Just a few settings bugs to fix.
The girl character's hair looks amazing.
Makes me laugh. All of the people hating on this game. Still have no idea what it’s like as it’s not out yet. People tell other people opinions are wrong based on other peoples opinions all formed of no opinion of their own.
The world today is nuts, absolute nuts! 😂
Watch Skill Ups review.
@ I don’t need to watch anyone’s review. The game is out in less than 2 days time. I will play and I will develop my own review of the game. I know it’s a game I want, it’s a game I will be playing, then I will find out if I enjoy it or not. Simple as that.
@@corruptedpoison1bro you showed that the comment is right because it would give validity to the opinion of someone who unfairly criticized armored core 6 and final fantasy 16 ? skill up has no validity any more than anyone else, form your own criteria
@@corruptedpoison1 Why his review specifically and not the other reviews that praise the game..? Can you at least admit that the game is divisive where some liked it and some didn't - or are you fully on the hate bandwagon for rage internet points?
It's the hate train, will get worse when game releases, they start nitpicking stuff, going to be Starfield all over again 🥲
Is there a published optimized settings list? Would love something I can just go down the list for and match it.
Seems like a good port i just wish the game was also good
Did you play it ?
Bioware went through hell to adapt frostbite for DA Inquisition and doubled down on using it going forward. Glad they eventually managed to make it work cos they could've easily given up and gone back to Unreal.
