I had a breakthrough early this year at the age of 60. Members of my family of origin have treated me terribly leading to cut offs. Both my brothers have mental illnesses .Finally realised that I am a people pleaser and my own mother has been using me as an amateur psychologist for decades. I reached breaking point and have now stepped back from my " duties". I wanted people's respect and I wanted people to think I am a good person. Why do I care what they think? I know I am a good person but I am not indestructible. I have a new normal now that doesn't involve knocking myself out for other people
First of all - amazing interview - I’ve admired both of you ladies for years - it was wonderful seeing you together. I’ve only made it 8 minutes in, and I have chills running up and down my arms. Yesterday I was with my sister and aunts and they had a conversation in which they were proud of how they give to others - basking in martyrdom, taking pride in giving away all of their essence to take care of others. Later that evening, I replayed that moment back and thought to myself - I am not judging these women I admire & love, but I choose a different way. I choose to learn how to fill my own cup with love & nurturing so that it spills forth onto everyone I meet. I choose to learn how to give to others without completely losing myself.
I love this. I have been the Empath and giver. Once I realized that is who I was, I stopped nurturing those who didn't deserve my kindness. I am now trying to figure out who I am without returning to my past self
Hi! I was looking for videos for my son for an exercise he could do in the classroom when it gets too overwhelming for him. I found yours and I was so happy to hear your voice. In the best way possible(a compliment) I recognized your accent. It always makes me feel “at home” to run into someone from my home town. Cheers to you for helping all of us with our mental health!
Omg! I love you both! This is one of the best collaboration ever in your field! 😍 You both have been helping me in my current healing journey! You guys are game changers and thank you for making the world a better place! 🥰😍😘
I am grateful for access to such work, it has helped awaken the sleeping self, painful but such a salvation. Thank you amazing women, I will be investing in all your books for sure!
Loved this introduction and yes, bought the book. The time is right, especially as we are transiting from Masculine into Feminine power. Thank you, definitely need this awakening.
Great discussion and such an important lesson. Something does come to mind - Imagine if two men were on a podcast talking about the pressures of women in society. I would say to myself “How can men understand the cultural expectations of women without ever experiencing the life of a woman”; yet it seems socially acceptable for women to have the same conversations and assumptions about men and their experience. Nothing was inappropriate at all in this conversation and I agree with everything said; I just see this new cultural shift play out quite often in very subtle ways. It’s like another layer of the matrix, where within our current culture, woman are allowed to assume the experience of men and make assumptions on how they feel. This is just another temporary state of the ever-changing culture; where it’s socially acceptable to ignore the very-real and often equally oppressive social expectations that face men everyday. It’s like we’ve adopted this false narrative that men aren’t insecure or feel similar pressure to look a certain way or provide a certain “social value”, seek validation, approval and praise, or that women don’t have the potential for the same, but perhaps different, power over men - which of course they can. Yes, there has been obvious historical inequality of women and their empowerment needs to be in the spotlight right now. However, that doesn’t make it okay to point the same sexist over-generalizations toward men. Men shouldn’t tell women how they feel and just because women are taking back their deserved social power, this doesn’t give the right to tell men how they feel either. Again, not saying this conversation was inappropriate in any way, just perhaps sparking a conversation that doesn’t happen often enough ✌🏻
I'm a hetero women and I have pointed out, your sentiment to other women.. it doesn't always land. Until there is equal compassion for men, some women may be guilty of using the very same male qualities and projecting it onto men..thank you for having the courage to raise this point.
Nicole, I came across you through multiple synchronicities at a time in my life where the timing is perfect. I have quite a story and would love to work with you if at all possible. Much love and appreciation for finding the truth and standing in your truth not just for yourself but for all of us ❤️
So grateful that I came across this video today. It brings me happiness to know that I am able to recognize and be able to see my reflection in the words you and Dr. Shefali shared, definitely checking out both books. Thank you for sharing this.
Dr. Shefali is refreshing and shares your beautiful ability to humanise our minds. Making life easier for us to understand why we do the crazy things we do and helping us to find our true selves. Thankyou ladies- so inspiring
Dr. Shefali, your book sounds amazing. It sounds like it is written for women. Would it also be beneficial for men? Is there another book or resource you would recommend? Thank you
For what it's worth, as a woman, I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to any gender. Powerful opportunities for anyone to recognize and reconcile masculine and feminine energies!
I listened to your first school of greatness podcast and very much enjoyed it! I relate so much to your issues of not being considered and the example of freaking out about not getting your half of food lol. Thanks for all the great info you have provided!
It is not good that Dr. Nicole is doing too much of the talking. I want to hear Dr. Shefali. It is very difficult to follow this style of presentation, interview, or podcast. I wanted to hear Dr. Shfali's ideas more than those of the interviewer. This is too bad. I have to leave and hear Dr. Shefali on other posts. Sorry.
You heard it wrong.Thats not what she said. She said we are harder on ourselves than however hard a man may be on us. Not “any woman is worse than any man can ever be”. Big difference. Relisten 6:00

Susan, your story is the story of a huge part of the humanity.
