I am totally with you!! I lived in Mamaroneck, NY for about 5 years and I loved to go to the City... To See Broadway Show, to go for Dinner or cocktails, See a Movie, See a music concert at MSG, hang out in Central Park, go Shopping... There is so much to do in NYC. Loved it ❣️ But it is soooo expensive...

Love the nuanced viewpoints you always present, Kendra. The "segregated melting pot" is true in major 🇨🇦cities, too.
I definitely romanticize NYC, so it's always good to get an insider's perspective on what living there is actually like.

Thanks for your honest words about being a teacher in New York. I am a teacher in what we call "adult education" in Germany. Third of my class are immigrants, third come out of prison, third allegedly don't know why they're here.

If I'd ever get to visit NYC, I'd afterwards be incapable of reporting anything about the living conditions - because I'd be spending my whole stay focusing on the amazing art deco buildings from the 30s. Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, Radio City Music Hall (I admire Donald Deskey's designs.) - It would take me a second visit to even notice anything that was added to NYC after Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" radio play...

You didn't talk about the misery in the city. As a person from a small german town, I have never seen more homeless people than in New York. I tried to give everyone a dollar but there are SO many homeless people. It was heartbreaking. Do New Yorkers just force their heart to get cold and ignore all of the suffering? Or do they grow up to think it is normal? How do they have fun and going out while walking past the most miserable and sometimes severely sick folks of the city?

Oh boy, that is a whole different video. Unfortunately there are way too many homeless people to give everyone in the city money :\ volunteer work is way more effective to me.

Do you think Berlin and New York are similar, since some people say Berlin is the New York of Europe. I remember my first time in NYC. A group of black teens entered the subway, went up and down doing all kind of tricks with their basketball. In my Hotel near Times Square I heard the cops playing with their sirens all night. My 4 days there were so typical American for me it felt like being in a movie or so.
How is it hanging in Bayern, are the deers still staring ?

I do! Berlin particularly reminds me of Brooklyn...
Yes, they are 😂 and they still won't let me get a picture of them

@@KendraAshanti I thought so too. I think especially Kreuzberg has a bit of a Brooklyn vibe and on the other side of the river they are building more and more high rising buildings, so you have a little Manhattan there.
Auf jeden Fall bin ich froh, dass ich endlich mal eine Lieblingsauslaenderin habe, dass hab ich mir immer schon gewuenscht.

Two very different cities. On the one hand, unlike Berlin, NYC is extremely expensive and gentrified, but also economically a very important city. On the other hand, the nightlife in NYC is surprisingly provincial and subculture is almost non-existent. There are only a few clubs, most of which are pretentious bottle service venues.
