As British as the Royal Family by way of Germany. I'd never own a BMW Mini but I can appreciate that people bought these to have something different. I like that these are still rounded and not blocky like newer ones.
Super glad you reviewed this car. I have a couple of friends how have owned different generations of Mini Cooper, and my girlfriend was about to have a standard Cooper of this generation as her first car! It's grown on me a bit, but coming from lifelong ownership of Toyotas/Lexuses it would be a very different experience for me lol
I remember when I had a soft spot for these when the Pixels movie came out, because it had four Mini Coopers resembling the Pac Man ghosts (blue, red, pink and orange).
So much going for this little ripper. But a combination of design flaws (timing and pump issues) and exorbitant prices to service it? Still a pass for me. Great review Zach!
In non-US markets, there's a base model 3 series that comes with this 1.5L three-cylinder called the 318i. [You can get a 318i M-Sport, naturally...] I think in the US, the 3 series range starts with the 328i/330i which is the 2.0L.
When it comes to reliability starting with the 3rd generation in 2014 MINI's reliability ratings went way up. Consumer Reports rated it the 3rd most reliable brand a few years ago. For 25 they fell to number 11 but still higher than Mazda and Acura. My 24 Cooper S has been problem free. My 20 ounce Yeti also fits very well in the cup holder.
Every time I think i know everything about the first few mini gens, a new video comes out making me go wtf lol Like that looks like a 3rd gen head unit in a 1st gen bmw mini and thst the 3 cylinders ate turbocharged? Crazy Would love to have you peak my n18 countryman sometime ;p
The air must be really dry there. 0C or -1C here and there’s frost on everything! At -12C my words would be freezing and falling to the ground as they left my lips!
I went to test drive one thinking it was going to be similar to like a GTI but it..wasn't.. felt similar to a Scion xB to be honest didn't really have anything but I do like the interior
what a dumpster fire waiting to happen not a fan of the fuel temp gauges with only 4 increments. comically bad 7:07 and wheres the hoodie? your jacket is right there ? you wont be super happy when it's always in the shop, half of everything requires removal of the front clip for working room.
5 of the 8 lights were lit in the video. I don’t think any car ever had only 4 possibilities. Repairs on this thing will be bad. This money pit will drain your finances quickly, but, people will still dismiss all warnings and buy it anyway (a used mini) because they think cars are like ice cream flavors. You like chocolate, I like vanilla, we both buy what we like.
Yes,but Minis are still mostly designed, developed & built in Cowley,Oxfordshire,England. It's only in the past few years they manufacture some Mini models in The Nederlands,I think mainly because they have so many different models, they need more capacity.
Nice touch with the engine sound from the car for each episode to start the clip

I miss the days when Mini Cooper "S" mean't "Supercharged".
How old are you?
I miss the days when Zack had an intro.
WOT????
THat does'nt mean supercharged anymore?
S never meant that

I had a 2017 Cooper S with the 6 speed. Such a fun car

Still looks good today, they did come with a updated touch screen of this era, just with different option packages

the Countryman version was my dream ride for awhile because of the WRC lol
What's your dream ride now?
@Idk_about_anything JZX100 Toyota Chaser, but I'm guessing those are an arm and a leg now
The base ones are sweet as is
Love the base cars.

consumer reports gave subarus high ratings even though they blew head gaskets.
@Dankcatvacs When? I see plenty of 10 year old crosstreks. But yeah it's a shame there aren't many 20 year old outbacks

"Not the worst back seat..." Not to put you on the spot, but what vehicles are in contention for "the worst back seat?"
Toyota GR86, most convertibles, Mustang, RS3
I have a 6 year old corolla from new and i really dont see it too often. Maybe because its a hatch and not a sedan.
Can you get John Cooper Works Minis in the US? They're a ton of fun
Yes
5:29 to be fair here in Europe beverages are much more normal sized than in the USA 😅

Miss the old intro. Keep thinking I clicked into a Kirk Kreifels video.
I have a solution for your cold weather problem. It's called a jacket.
nah man jackets are for sub 0 weather. Anything above it isn’t necessary
Mini is technically German now, since BMW owns them

I remember seeing the original Mini Coopers in Australia in 1985. The modern Minis reliability is rather poor so I’d never buy one.
