typical dumb shitlibs. Turing everything into a "feminist" issue. It was just an average sitcom. and, there was nothing spectacular (or magical) about her role. In real life, you don't find too many female heroes. Anyway, Elizabeth Montgomery represents everything that's wrong with this country. On the one hand, she was a feminist pig (hostile toward her male counterpart), BUT on the other hand, she also showed a huge out=group preference when it came to blacks and gays.
She was the precursor to today's idiotic Twitter outrage mob. ( A Mixture of female unity, White women hating on their own, and allowing non-Whites to be anti-feminist. ).

Elizabeth was also a very good Password player, and only appeared on the show while Allen Ludden hosted. It was a shame to have lost her so early. 7:11 - Diane Baker was also in Rod Serling's 1971 Emmy-nominated episode of Night Gallery "They're Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar". She was really good in that episode playing the secretary to the main character who has a crisis after 25 years with his company. She had a very strong character there, too. It was one of Rod's favorite works - and it wasn't on the Twilight Zone!

@@danielcruz8347 thank you for that! Both of you and I feel exactly the same as you comment number 2! Sorry I would have to delete this message to read your name, you know that feeling?!?! I remember her as a kid and in Ireland and the uk 🇬🇧 where Wicca is the fastest growing religion- I kid you not….. in fact there’s a “Timeline documentary about it right here on RUclips and on a full moon 🌕 it is not uncommon to see a lot of naked women dancing in the moon light 💡! Worshippers of nature and healing ❤️‍🩹 animals and people with herbal remedies and flowing energy into the water and using elements in the name of the divine to think of the outcome you want ( it can’t harm anyone) and in the beginning of this spiritual practice I would feel energy going from my solar plexus as I focused on it and directed it up through my chakra’s and up through my head and then “imagining” white light and energy coming back down and out through my arms into the incense stick (Earth) but after a year I started seeing the energy as well as feeling it and it was golden white energy and I felt and saw and now I flow this energy into Diet Coke to make it healthier and in New York Times best selling author of many books and always on the Oprah show still does soul Sunday and you can get the book a new Earth and listen along to Oprah and millions from around the world on webcam and It broke the internet on the first night because of the popularity of the first book which is what I’m trying to tell you about “the power of now“ by Eckhart Tolley! And the energy he is talking about is in chapter 6! It’s always on RUclips to listen to for free. But unfortunately people keep taking it down. It’s the publisher not him that is bothered! The first chapter is amazing but it begins with him saying that he rarely talks about the past, and then gives a metaphor about a beggar, that is the genuine book! Otherwise you’re not getting the full chapter! I always follow these impulses to leave a message or anything intuition tells me to do so this might not make sense to you which means someone else may be the one that needs to hear this. The energy work described in chapter 6 has healed many terminally ill people and my eyesight has healed by 50% so far, and these contacts are too strong so I know it’s going to be a less strong lens the next eye exam and my thyroid condition has disappeared but thinking about it we are all made up of energy- electromagnetic energy! So it’s only natural! To feel the energy that we really are and connect with it and raise the frequency deliberately! Blessings!

    I remember the era.
Lots of women and girls didn't wear bras.
It was a trend, which became so common, that I never even noticed, until some other guy would mention it. It seemed like at least half of the girls in school didn't wear bras. I didn't notice something I only learned recently in a video like this - that Jan and Marsha rebelled and didn't wear bras in a couple of Brady Bunch episodes, until they were caught.
I liked that women were more natural back in the day.
it didn't take long for bras to come back big time.
I'm not sure when that happened, but it must have been the eighties.

Elizabeth is fantastic in the ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS episode "Man with a Problem". She plays the wife of Gary Merrill, and after telling him she's leaving to go live with a policeman Gary finds a unique way to dispose of this problem. THE LEGEND OF LIZZIE BORDEN features what many criminologists regard as the only plausible explanation of how Lizzie could have killed her father and stepmother without leaving blood traces on her own body and clothes.

I don't see the relevance of claiming Elizabeth wore no bra as a form of rebellion.
It was a sign of the times. What young woman did in the early 70s?
As for empowerment...she was a witch! Given that, she never worked and was content to stay at home and please her husband. Hardly a rebellious feminist.
In addition, no. She NEVER encouraged Tabitha to use her powers.
She frowned on it... again to please her husband.
    Hardly a rebelling feminist.
Same with Jeanie who did everything to please her master.
I'm hard pressed to think of any female character of that late 60s early 70s sitcom era that embodied being a proud, independent strong woman who worked for a living. Certainly not Carol Brady and she had a maid!
Mary Tyler Moore comes to mind. A strong independent woman not bowing down to a man.

The original name of Elizabeth's character was to be Cassandra. She wasn't going to have it. So she fought to change it. The execs gave in and our beloved Samantha was born.
The point that you bring up about BEWITCHED featuring strong women in central roles is one reason why I love it, as well as the top notch cast. I think that is one reason why BEWITCHED remains such a beloved show.
Liz was reluctant to get into a TV series, because playing the same character season after season could get tedious. She loved BEWITCHED, which would be the only TV series that she'd ever do. She and Dick Sargent would be asked to reprise their roles in future spinoffs like TABITHA or a possible movie. They declined.

Today, Liberals are considered to be all in for the minority communities and causes. She was ahead of her time and worked hard for what she believed.
The only contradiction is that her father who was a very successful member of the Hollywood set and a pioneer in TV entertainment, was well paid for his talent....as was she.
That is a fact that is a product of a free enterprise society in which those with talent can reap great rewards. Meritocracy is not a bad thing and it would seem a contradictory choice she made since she was born and raised in living a better than average life and continuing to use her talent to become even more wealthy.
I enjoyed watching her and the show was light entertainment that many across the country also enjoyed.

It's amazing facts then how people thought these shows were just mundane television shows they did not realize how classic these shows would become and how much a part of the American culture that they would become part of. These were clean nice shows for a clean nice America that there was. Now everything is demented and psychotic and bloodthirsty at pathologically neurotic as the people who watch them. We used to have good TV now we have 600 channels of crap.

Names come and go in cycles. There are a lot of women named Maddy, or Madison too. Thank "Moonlighting" for that.
As far as her being braless- she'd had two or 3 kids by then and was pretty small breasted and that makes it easier to not be ostentatious.

Elizabeth did have some kind of "hippie" quality about her. Ditching her bra could have been part of that. In any case, just the thought of it drives me crazy! Mostly, because she didn't need to go braless to make anyone watch. Elizabeth was a beautiful woman and a superlative actress. She also went from wearing long dresses, in the early seasons, to mini skirts later on. As for the "braless" thing. Again, she didn't need to go that route, but it didn't hurt, either!
