If it had a quick shifter I would have bought one.
You guys have a very different definition of "off road". Where I live that's just a road.
If there’s a Harley bagger on the same road as you are, you’re not off-roading🤣
Scrambling at most, even my Virago 250 flys down roads like that
It’s still on the road, only difference is road is incomplete. Not offff roading. Rider from INDIA
Same here. Gravel roads make up a large portion of our roads in Michigan.
I was just thinking how my sumo with it's super sticky sport tires could tackle that dirt road no problem. lol
Lol "off road" then a big ass bagger with 2 people passes by
Lol yoga is a dirt road not even slightly off road
You'd be surprised what a bagger can handle, there is another RUclips channel out there Where the guy is rolling around The Australian outback in a boulevard C50 It's what convinced me to make that bike my 1st.
Ya’ll standing on the pegs with full off-road stance engaged meanwhile dude @3:15 just cruising along on his bagger while having a drink in his cup holder
I think that says more about the guy on the bagger and what’s in that cup holder than the actual road? 🤷🏻♂️🤪. Alcohol and motorcycle are a bad combination on any road however!
Lmao I died when I saw that bagger chillin with a passenger too 😂
@@justaghost3285 same here I had to go back just to confirm. Kinda reminded me of when weathermen are on the spot reporting on a storm exaggerating about wind blowing them around etc then you see someone walking in the background like it’s no big deal 😂
I was expecting a school bus to go by.
@@1985GusT those dirt roads can be done on regular street bikes. I wanna see someone Take the pan America and do some hard enduro
hardly an off-road test if a bagger riding with a passenger is cruising the same road...
Yet they made it up to whopping (!!!) 50 mph.. and the bike was interrupting the throttle so nothing bad would happen :D
I was thinking the same thing, this isn’t off-roading…
@@kurtmessenger2034 it's pretty much the extent of the off-roading that the majority of riders who buy it will do so I guess it's appropriate? Gotta spend almost 20k to have a bike capable of a gnarly "adventure" like this
I mean this is what most adventure bikes are for. If you want to do real off roading get a dual sport or a dirt bike. There are very few people Harley owners or otherwise that are doing wild stuff on their ADV bikes. A Tenere 700 would pretty much kick the crap out of you sinking in the sand I ride my WR250R in every weekend.
Ha ha I said the same thing.
Loved Bagger Guy and his broad chillin' pillion passing Team ADV @3:16 🤣
Lol 100%.
If this is an offroad test i'm a gold medalist motocross champion.
In fact the stock T700 is about $7000 cheaper and is an actually capable motorcycle.
No one cares
I guess it's all about perspective. Mines different. But glad ya'll enjoyed it.

It’s Harley, they only make first generations lol
Busa bois may disagree there haha
I own a Pan Am Special. I also own a 2017 Africa Twin, non-DTC. I bought the Pan Am for longer distance touring as I use the AT for daily commuting and for off-road riding. The Pan Am has a great engine if you setup a custom mode for full power, full throttle and minimal nanny. However, it’s everything around the engine that lacks. It’s weight is relatively high on the bike and with the stupid as hell jiffy stand, it’s a bear to get upright after a long day. The seat gives you no room to move around. You can’t get any damn accessories like pannier racks or REAL hand guards. The tubeless spoke rims, cruise control, engine are all highlights. The shitty headlight, gimmick cornering light, glitchy TFT, jiffy stand are all minuses. The worst thing no one is talking about is the Cush drive. Put it in gear. Grab the rear sprocket and rotate it in either direction. It turns about 5 degrees or so. Guess what, when you think the clutch is grabby, it’s not. It’s the Cush drive moving around. So I took a 800 mile ride to Pittsburgh last weekend. I left my Pan Am at home and took the Africa Twin.
It threw a code taking it home from the dealer. The knock sensor wire harness was cracked. Still waiting 3 months later for a replacement sensor. The dealer taped it together so it would stay put. While in for the warranty work he asked why I didn’t just buy a BMW. This bike is getting the Buell treatment at the dealer level.
5 degrees is a lot of play for a cush drive hub, are you sure there isn't something wrong with that specific bike? My Versys has a cush drive hub, but you can't actually turn it by hand, but it still makes for nice smooth engagement like a cush drive is supposed to.
@@mrvwbug4423 well I’ve been told by the dealer that it’s normal. I’ve owned several bikes with Cush drives and None of them had rotational play until the rubber was worn out. At my local dealer they have a single tech that’s Pan Am trained. I was told my the manager that he went to the factory for training but was told by the service department that it was all web based due to Covid. So far I haven’t come across another Pan Am where I could check it against mine.
When I went to the dealer to get the stuff for the first oil change, they took 45 minutes to locate the oil filter. I got two. They only had one drain plug washer in stock. They seriously couldn’t care less about this bike. I’ve experienced dealer disdain at three local dealerships here on Eastern PA and one in Myrtle beach
Thank you for sharing. Bmw feels premium. Honda is practicality and quality. HD is... rough, under engineered and crazy expensive. I hope all your issues with Dirtglide will be resolved.
@@pilkjaer and the Beemer isnt crazy exoensive? Logic does not compute
@@johnmyers8588 It has to do what you get for your money. For BMW you get all the latest features, superb quality and "german engineering". If you are to pay the same money for HD you won't get even half.
If there’s a Harley bagger (3:16) on the same road as you are, you’re not off-roading🤣! JK only.
I have ridden much harder forest roads on my Electra Glide. Yammiehead is clueless. Great bike he says. Computer controls the bike so you can’t play around and fishtail ir get it to kick sideways and he thinks it’s great how the bike controls itself instead if him controlling it. These younger kids have some strange ideas.
You guys really need to ride this back to back with a GS1250 and see how they compare … I’d love to see that comparison
My Pan America Special overheated and blew the engine at 5,000 miles halfway through a 2,500-mile trip. The bike has now been in the shop for three weeks, and today, I finally got an update on the cause. The Tech tells me the manifold going from the Oil Pump to the engine's top-end came loose. They are still waiting for Harley Corp tech support to get back with further instructions. I love the bike, but it doesn't seem like the dealerships want anything to do with servicing and repair it. I hope Harley takes care of me, but I'm skeptical due to being in the shop for three weeks and not getting any update other than they are waiting on Harley's tech support. I did ask the Tech how much internal damage there was, and they said Harley had not instructed them to make any more tear down; they just wanted pics of the cause. However, the Tech did tell me that they did a compression check on the cylinders, and they are entirely different front to back, and there is coolant in my engine oil. Fingers Crossed!
I have a different perspective...but I am so glad to see ya'll younger riders out there experiencing and enjoying motorcycles. All motorcycles. Each one is different. Just like people. No judgements. Just experience and enjoy each.
Only a Harley rider could call a perfectly good dirt road "off road". However, that auto ride- height adjuster will cost BMW a lot of sales.
lol. no sales will be lost to BMW.
Love the bagger going the opposite direction 😂
My sister had a pan am for a day a couple months ago, and loved it. She’s currently considering trading her low rider s in and getting one
Heres my question, why did she get rid of it though?
It was a demo bike lol
@@Hyde232 you thought you were on to something didn't you?
Neat, but Africa Twin for actual dirt riding and save at least $5K. As Spite pointed out: It's a crowded segment.
Extra 5k for America
2800 bucks between the cheapest africa twin and the cheapest Harley. Harley makes up for it when you account for the fact that it has hydraulic valves that never need to be adjusted, makes the harley pay for itself. Not to mention 40+ more horsepower
@@6amamoeba677 I don't buy the AT because of the horse power. I bought it because I trust the brand name to get me home. I bet I can do much better off road with a 250 dirt bike than a 150 horse power bike
@@scottmartin5093 That's the thing about adventure bikes the horsepower is to make sure you can cruise at highway speeds comfortably , If you actually start using them for Actual off road you need to take it easy. Not out to impress anyone Or win a seat at the X games.
@@mrspeigle1 I can and do highway speeds and single track with the crf1000l but like you said I take it easy. But I am getting old so I take it easy all the time now.have a good ride!
If this is the kind of offroad you wanna do just buy a scooter
As others said, the channel needs to review the gs1250, I was pretty blown away by versatility and performance
Hell yeah Yammie I love the content alway funny to watch 🤙💯
Man i sat on one of these today. The ergonomics are nothing short of excellent. It may very well be my next bike if I cant get over it.
I'm telling you when harley gets in trouble is when they start trying its kinda dumb but it's what they tend to do
On an unrelated topic, what is a good starter bike for someone who loves the sport bike style of motorcycle? I am a slightly bigger dude, 6' and 300lbs, so getting a good idea of what bike to get has been hard. Love the videos Yammie, keep it up!
Adv bikes have changed. Adv bikes are now just comfortable touring bikes with a sump guard and dirt road capabilities. Dual sports have become what adv bikes used to be. The klr450, dr650 and the crf300 rally are good enough on the highway, great on back roads and they can actually go anywhere.
wasn't really full offroad. Just dirt road.
94000 torques! Yeah, that's a lot.
Thank you for sharing.
Well, let's hope this is the gateway episode for more big, dADV bikes to appear on the channel. Would find it hilarious if they picked up a GS and begrudgingly warmed up to it.
Not if Yammster Hamster continues yelling at us as the End Point of the Video!
The high-end Africa Twin sells each and every January for $3,500 off MSRP. ASK Pete's in Baltimore or Annapolis (or the folks in Oklahoma) to save one for you...complete with DCT !
94,000 of torque would be pretty nice tho
1:08 The fella: and how many torques
Whitney : 94 thousand
The fella : 94 thousand ! I think that's a little high I think it's closer to about 94
Whitney: ok 94 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I am gonna keep my GS. In fact I would probably buy another GS before I would buy a dirt glide.
And you felt compelled to share that, lol.
GS might be a better bike, but HD certainly looks better. GS is fugly, like all bmws
@@kalasmournrex1470 Not by much. That headlight is the ugliest I've ever seen on a bike
HECK YES! I enjoyed the video and now miss this bike even more now. 🥺
Too big, too heavy. A 50/50 tyre on my HD electra glide, would have the same results on- and off- road…
How does it jump? Didn't see any drifting on the dirt road.
YAMNMIE NOOB. Glad to see Whitney back.
Awh editing actually removes me as first
I rode a Pan America at a Harley Demo Day. I loved it. My personal ride is a Triumph Tiger 1050.
I want to street one out. Take the exhaust straight back. Leather bags over the seat. Michelin tires, and find a way to mount a stereo on it.
Did yall shoot this in the black hills? Would love to meet you next year at Sturgis! I'm a local up here.
You keep saying "off road" is there a video of when you to took it off road? Would like to see how it goes "off-road" seems as you have given a glowing report of how it went "off road" for you while you vloged on a road...
About that AX-9
Does yours make a weird and fast woomp woomp woomp noise? Kind of a low frequency wave or the sound a flapping strap would make to some extent.
Guy rode a Pan Am to a campout I was at and the bike wouldn't start the next morning. You have to take the skid plate off to jump start it and the bike won't start until you hook it up to a computer.
I was going to buy one until the only one I saw in the wild broke down and I had to work on it. 4/10 stars
Ya coulda taken the turbo-busa on that “off-road” adventure lol. But great review nonetheless. If it really had 94k ft lbs of torque I’d be willing to get one! 😁
Listening to them you'd think this is the best adventure motorcycle. Harley have never made the best motorcycle let alone their first adventure motorcycle being the best. I'm just doubtful.
Harley have never? 😆
There is now way this thing rides better than an Africa Twin offroad. Not even the 1988 Africa Twin 😂
Your opinion. My opinion is they have built the best at times. Especially depending on the segment. The winningest motorcycle in any type of racing is a Harley.
Go try it out then lol you can fix the doubt
@@MrNegative57 Harley hasn't even competed in most types of motorcycle racing. I hope that was sarcasm, lmao😆
Roads like this?? You can ride them on anything. The seat height adjustment is clever...I'll give Harley that. The GS/Dirt Glide craze makes so little sense for most riders. Get a sport tourer, set it up with the tires you need, and ignore this "segment" of motorcycle marketing.
A lot of wind noise, yep that's Wyoming haha, always windy.
I jacked the seat 2" on my lifted KLR. Spite seems to be a little smaller than me so I look for what he thinks about the ergos
This thing like like a vacuum cleaner
because it sucks
Harley finally made it :D
still can't get use to all the electronic components, liquid cooling engine on a Harley tho
I'd still rather have a tenere 700, or and Africa twin.
At the end of the day, its still a harley davidson
@Derek Chatham not compared to ktm superadventure
@Derek Chatham ah yeah, i know a guy who got the 890 duke and he said its more fun than the superduke. so yeah the 890 would be my go to adventure bike, but currently i want that aprilia tuono V41100
If I was riding highways and fire roads pan am. If I was actually offroading the Tenere700, just maybe not goat trails 😂.
Tenere 700 is next on my list. I was originally thinking light dual sport like CRF 300 L but I’m 6’2” and 230lbs and by the time I load up with camp gear the little dual sport would be way overworked. So T700 it my next buy. I have seen them fully loaded for long ADV rides and seen them empty being thrashed down some pretty narly trails. Super capable bike. I was thinking maybe a used Africa Twin but then I’m getting into a much heavier bike for the off roading I need to do.
@Derek Chatham both the tenere 700 and the Africa twin are cheaper. The only thing the pan am has going for it is the hydraulic valves. IN MY MIND. yeah the suspension would be nice, but its not necessary. I hope this bike does well for harley. It would be nice for an American motorcycle company to do really well in the motorcycle market. At the end of the day though, the tenere 700 is 7000 dollars cheaper, and almost 100 lbs lighter
I would have one already, if it was only shaft drive... I mean Motoguzzi can do it on the v85tt, why can't Harley make this one shaft drive...
Because shaft drive and sand or mud or dirt is garbage
What @@Ebbeebbeee said. There's a whole internet of people who have had gears grenade on their shaft drive BMW from dirt, or water ingestion...
As well as losing torque....
Nothing better than a dirt rode test. I like dirt microphones quite a lot. Rode just might make the very best dirt microphones.
Harley finally built something worth riding. I still want the step 2-3" further back. The 2 piece seat complicated that a bit
There's one thing I like - hydraulic lifters. Long overdue in the adventure bike sector. The cost of reshimming is beyond ridiculous.
Imagine being a 5'6 Pan America rider and depending on this system to get on and off the bike and it gets stuck in the 'up' position when you're out on a ride...
@@Geshmaal I think he meant valve lifters
@@Geshmaal I'm 5'6" and didn't think about that lol I bet that would fuck my day up huh. I'm not getting the bike anyway because I can't afford it. Haven't even tried sitting on one in the dealer lol
For a second I thought the whole YN crew was at Sturgis. Whew cuz I think there would be some missing persons reports.
Diggin' Whitney's Pit Vipers gonna be honest. The bike seems pretty sweet too.
So in the presence of Yammie Noob team Blockhead is the camera man !??
Graduated my Harley MSF Course yesterday, wish they had one of these on the showroom floor. It didn’t last a full day before someone bought it.
Yeah I don't think a 500+ pound motorcycle, tall seat height with 150 horsepower is a good first bike to get right after getting your license lol. I took the harley riding academy couple years ago too was great. It was during the summer with 100+ heat, in the sun all day with no shade. Literally felt like a bucket of water was constantly being dumped on me lol
I never understood why anyone would want an automatic bike until my brother in law let me ride his new Africa twin with the DCT. I Feel like this class of bike just makes sense to be automatic. I predict that is the future of this segment. Honda is ahead of the game with that. I'd never want a DCT on my naked bike or sport bike or even muscle cruiser. But that ADV segment of bikes for long rides on and off road automatic (DCT) makes so much freaking sense.
All the paid hype for these still doesn’t change the fact it’s a heavier shittier Vstrom
Because it has more horsepower, no shitty Suzuki plastic crap, and doesn’t have a dash that was already outdated in 2004?
Lol, are you sure she hasn't secretly taken a job with Harley Davidson?
Thanks for mentioning inseam lengths for the "ergo check". I am a short guy (28" inseam) so a lot of reviews made by taller people are not very useful for me.
For me I have to check everything in person for ergonomics because I'm tall(6'2") with a really short inseam (28") so I can't really take the word of a similarly tall person with a longer inseam or a short person with the same inseam either one.
@@toddwebb7521 One of the reasons I liked Kawasaki's ergo-fit system is that the peg location, seat height and bar-reach each had options, making it easier to fit different body types.
I've seen this bike perform on an eduro/single track trail in the UK and it was impressive for a first venture into ADV, hats off to harley
It is truly, hands up, he ugliest bike I’ve seen. BUTT, atleast its not another remake of a bike we’ve seen for 50 years ✌️
Its not ugly, its just very different from anything you are used to!
I kind of like it... Not saying its beautiful, but it has a quirky charm to it.
Can you name a big adventure bike that is good looking ? Most of them are more function over form even the Ducati isn’t much to write home about.
@@Krydolph naaaa, it's plain ugly.
I own a 2013 Super Tenere, and I'm not a small person but I'm not crazy about the 600lb wet-weight. The Tenere 700 and other bikes in that range make more sense to me for actual on-off roading. Perhaps H-D will follow suit with a lighter version....👍😺
All I got from this is that Harley Davidson made an ugly ass bike that can go down a dirt road with chunky tires at 35 mph and has some cool tech.
You guys did not do any real off roading. Go ride a gsa now and be sad for Hd
I will keep my 2002 BMW R1150 GS Adventure that will take me where I need to go. All these Modern bikes are going to have a lot of problems with computer and electronic issues in the future.
Says this is the off-road section, then a big guy passes them by on his old road glide sitting down.
This is off pavement, not off road. That said, this is precisely where this bike, and the 1290 SA, 1250 GSA, Multistrada and Super Tenere are going to be ridden, after the trip to Starbucks. I test rode this bike in July, and it is competitive with those bikes. Whether or not it is as reliable, and as supported by the manufacturer, remains to be seen.
How about the Suzuki Vstrom 1000? Cheaper, lighter, and You can get either factory or real adv boxes at the dealership.
@@scottsingleton2951 That bike has significantly less tech, power, weight and cost than the other bikes. My first real street bike was a wee strom, and I loved it, but even the 1000 is not quite in the same class, imoho. A better choice for many riders, though. Ryan F9 had one.
I went to test ride it, it wouldn't even start🤣. Hearing they have starter problems.

Welcome to the world of ADV bikes…hope the Pan Am does well…hope they do a mid size.
It looks amazing and definitely taps into a different market segment for Harley…. Reminds me of a Road Warrior bike in a future Mad Max movie
You’re not on trails…
My quick test ride review: tall, surprisingly fast, with the knobbies it wanted to fall over on the side of the tire but gave zero confidence which was kind of terrifying. The transmission is unfortunately as clunky as a normal Harley

Nice bike defiantly , Would love to own one
Yammie, Spite, and Witney should watch long way round, long way down for a show week. It would be cool to see Spite do a cross country trip
I'm confident this is a good engine and motorcycle, but it's too big for an old guy like me. I would seriously consider the mini 400cc version if HD ever builds one.
HD should do an F650 or F800 style bike, smaller and more nimble yet still good for both on and off road riding.
Let’s go, Dirt Glide review!
God I hope they bring back the Bronx and with this motor
I finally found one to sit on and the ergos were still too small. The bump is the middle of where I fit.
94,000 ftlbs goddamn!
Kept waiting for it to go offroad.
I want one, but in Canada it costs as much as I paid for my 2015 Jeep
12:23 how can a big V-twin rev out really high and be smooth?
only way is OHC valvetrain
They have been doing since the 90s. See VTR1000, TL1000 and the KTM 950 onwards.
Ask KTM...
If a Harley bagger passes you it's not off-road.
Wouldn’t blacktop at highway speeds absolutely destroy the tread of the tires? Obviously they’re different but I’ve got a Polaris rzr and when you take it out on blacktop, you can practically feel the tread just ripping off the tires
It's not exactly a specific off road tire so it will do okay on the street. It won't last as long as a regular tire but most ADVs don't have true knobbies. So it should be fine to ride it on the highway.
That road has less pot holes on it than the whole of my town 😅😅.
I think it would be a lot better to own and ride every day when you’re in your element doing what you do. I got a softail and spend a portion of my time on sidewalks. My fun is restricted due to ground clearance. If I was on an adv bike I’d be in more places having a ton of fun. I hope I can always have a cruiser but if it keeps me from getting an adv bike I’m saying goodbye to cruisers for at least a little while
I took my 04 roadking to the nearest hd dealer today and sat on a pan am.
It felt wonderful. I would absolutely love to put a pan america in the garage. It was excellent as far as ergonomics and the bikes fit and finish made my 04 feel like a chinese knock off version of something.
If it rides half as good as I hope it does I'm gonna need it.
