If you're surprised by this genre switch, I'm sure this won't be the last time it catches you by surprise. AK music has *a lot* of diversity in its catalog. There's practically something for any music listener in there. And I think that's part of why Arknights music has such a widespread appeal. A ton of variety in its sound, and most (if not all) of it sounds fantastic.
People have only been recommending him similar stuff up until now because they thought he would only like rock/metal music, but there's way more to arknights than just that.
To answer your thought about how you don't know what each CC theme is based on, they're typically reflective of the mindset of one of the major enemies featured in each CC, where this one was definitely about the Hateful Avenger who re-appears later. The other themes can be a bit more archaic as to who they represent, but that's usually the pattern they follow. Dawnseeker in particular is one of my favorites because it's a much more defeatist song lyrically, and is more representative of a character who isn't that much of a highlight in that CC.

The enemy in basepoint, now much stronger, is a boss called "The Avenger" having similar abilities but incredibly more powerful

My favorite genre songs in the AK playlist include: country rock, Actual Latin Dirge, Russian lullaby, 2000s punk rock, operatic rock musical, experimental indie Chinese electro fusion, folk songs, and r&b. I really love how they are just not afraid to do absolutely Whatever The Fuck They Want when it comes to the music they put out. Anyways, i think most of the fandom agrees that CC Blade is the GOAT of the lobby themes. There are some really great ones alongside it, but they never quite go This hard. I think Deepness has to be my personal favorite though, I can't wait to see your response to the rest!

This and blade point are about specific characters, but the rest are (I think)just themed around the places they're set in and the other events that come before and after their corresponding CC events. Also there actually are classical pieces, though I can't spell them for the life of me.
lezzgooo! for this mini contingency contract series, i probably recommend skipping cc#3 cinder since the original ost had some copyright/trademark issues because of various reasons. the ost that we do get is basically just a replacement because of it. you can still listen to the original one called "cc#3 cinder legacy ost" or something.
Since you're likely hearing them anyways the difference between cc4 lead seal, cc5 spectrum and cc6 wild scales lobby themes is quite stark, so surely that will be a fun whiplash for you to experience just a bit of the wide range of genres ak music handles

Blade is still my favorite of the CC themes. Dawnseeker and Pine Soot have come the closest but Blade's lyrics are so good

People have probably told you this but contingency contracts have two themes: lobby and combat. Combat themes are absolutely worth checking out too!
