As a Russian, I'm really thankful to you mentioning that this song was based on Anna Akhmatova's poem. People usually overlook it but for me knowing the original work adds a lot of depth to the meaning of Arknights' Requiem.
Akhmatova indeed wrote her elegy about all the pain and suffering that people in Soviet Union had to endure during the times of the Stalin's Great Terror (period in history when millions of people in USSR were basically slaughtered or put to labor camps just because the government decided that they not loyal enough).
But first of all this poem tells us a terrifying story about GULags (Russian: ГУЛАГ, ГУЛаг, an acronym for Глaвное управлeние лагерeй, Glavnoye upravleniye lagerey, "chief administration of the camps") - labor camps that were some kind of political prisons. People (even children) had to work there in atrocious conditions, dying from exhaustion and sicknesses.
If you know Frostnova's story, you know that there's no coincidence.
But there's even more depth to it.
In fact, Anna Akhmatova's son was sent to one of such camps. And she had to spend days waiting in lines with thousands of other mothers and fathers - all of them wanted to see their imprisoned sons and daughters not even knowing is they're still alive or already executed. Talking to officials didn't solve anything and only made people feel more helpless. At some point Akhmatova was approached by some random woman who knew she was a poet and said something like: "Do you able to describe THIS?" Anna immediately decided that she should try. No, she must do it. And that's how one of the most heart-wrenching yet beautiful poem about the darkest times was born.
It really captures the despair and sadness of parents that are not able to save their children from this cruel word. This world always takes their beloved children away and sadly there's nothing they can do about it. You've probably just remember Patriot's story. He's lost his son, than FrostNowa. This lyrics suits him just perfectly.
I highly recommend you to check the original work by Anna Akhmatova. It's translated to English and can be easily found on the Internet. Reading it, you can think that fiction is depressing enough, but the reality we live in has the most depressing lore out there without a doubt.
A deep bow to Arknights team once again and deep bow to you, Marco, for checking this out.

    _"Madness with its wings_
    _has covered half my soul._
    _It feed me fiery wine,_
_and lures me into the abyss."_
All their lives, both Yelena and Buldrokkas'tee, were filled with pain. Pain from the people they lost, pain from their continued existence as a disease called Oripathy ravaged their bodies, pain from witnessing the suffering of their fellow infected. It was a pain that would have broken most people, leaving nothing but a husk of what they were. They were not most people, in this pain was born rage, and...determination, and _hope_. Against everything they have experienced and witnessed, they _dared_ to hope for a better future for the infected, and they had the determination to make it true.
They were fed fiery wine, but all it did was light a passion that could burn hotter than any fire, and it spread to others. Hundreds of people joined them, going to war against their oppressors, ready to give their lives for the cause and the two who gave them the drive and will to fight in the first place, and they have done so many times over, and more still were willing to join their ranks. They were staring at the abyss for most of their lives, but it took making sure that their hopes and dreams were carried on by others who have the power to make it true for them to finally accept it, to let go, to finally rest.
Might I suggest battle_patriot, it's the music you hear for the stage where you fight Patriot/Buldrokkas'tee, the big guy behind the lady in the video/guy reaching for the girl in the thumbnail. For Yelena/FrostNova, the girl in front/in the corner of the thumbnail, there's frostnovaevolution, frostnovaevolutionhard, and frostnovadie (these are the titles from the videos, probably also the names for the game files where they came from). You could also listen to Towerfierce, it's a song for the last boss in this arc of the game's story.

Reading Arknights chapter 6 and 7 and hearing the songs, all the emotions, all the incredible ilustrations that shook my very being, the moment comes back and it's as if i am there watching it happen all over again. Patriot death was somewhat like Himeko from honkai, he could've ended Amiya but decided to trust her, a little bunny girl, on her mid teens. Patriot whole life was full of suffering and strife, he went out the only way he could to defy fate, he fought, he advanced against us. Because he could no longer belive in a happy future, Patriot death is sad realization that the world of Arknights is a grim, darkned grey world but in that grayness some light can be cast, even if you no longer belive on it.

Finally another Arknights, it's great Marco. Patriot is perhaps one of the best character ever written by Hypergryph, he embodies one struggle in life, and the bitterness of it. But in the end, he's proud with what he'd done, and rest peacefully in the end...
Also, for a bits of information. The event that features Standchen song is coming on 27th December. And I'd like to suggest it's boss OST and maybe Chapter 8 PV; Towerfierce.

When I listen to Requiem, it resonated to me so much, the pain, the sorrow and loss.
Without understanding the lyric, you can feel its resonance, once I read it, it enhanced the song especially with background knowledge of the events of Patriot and FrostNova.
Im so glad you finally listen to it, been waiting for this since you listen to Lullaby and worth the wait.

Crazy to think that it’s been 2 years since the song and pv came out. It brings back memories of chapter 7 releasing onto global. Another really good piece of music from this chapter would be patriots boss battle music or Kaltsit’s team. Chapter 8 with tower fierce or Amiya’s evolution music is great. Another game series with opera type music would be Halo and a lot of its osts are godly. Ghosts of reach, unforgotten, high charity suite, epilogue from reach, grave mind and many others from bungies Halo games are definitely worth a listen to.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I used it as a theme for the final boss of my DnD campaign; Surana, a mortal man given immortality. But mortal minds were never meant to comprehend eternity. This "gift" led to his torment as he crossed to insanity and back again several times. Watching as all that he built as king and father crumble a dozen times, ending in his apathy and detachment. So now he seeks to end it all, even if the world is destroyed with him.

The leitmotifs for Frost Nova and Patroit are some of the most beautifully tragic pieces that Arknights has made. Frost Nova and Patroit both had nothing, and lost everything, but found new meaning in each other, and the people they surrounded themselves with. They cared deeply for their compatriots, and they cared back, so much so that when Frost Nova and Patroit died they were more than willing to stand in their memory.
The stories of Frost Nova and Patroit are tragic yet inspirational, and its why they mean so much to the Arknights community.

Patriot is my favorite antagonist of Arknights. This man suffered a lot. He lost his wife, son, homeland (Kazdel), and his adoptive daughter.
But he keep moving forward against the fate. Even after his death, his soldiers still respected him and follow his last order, to help us and Rhodes Island.
Rest in peace, Buldrokastee a.k.a. Patriot, the last pure blood Wendigo.

Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of the little conversation between Buldrokas'tee and the Azazel Clinic manager, Hellagur(former General of Ursus Army/Rhodes Island Operator/his brother-in-arms) during the Chernobog crisis. A talk between two battle-hardened old veterans who have gone separate ways is always a great story to listen.
And my favorite was when Patriot asked Hellagur wether the ransacking at his clinic was Reunion's doing or not and when their conversation was cut in the middle because of Patriot's men reporting the civilian casualties caused by....well, Reunion Movement(terrorist group/Patriot's current faction) rioters, Buldrokas'tee ordered to have those who are directly responsible to be executed by hanging and others who indirectly contribute in civilian massacre to be given demerits. A great proof of despite everything that happened to him and everything around him, he never lost his grip on his ideals even for a moment, something Hellagur both praised highly and lamented because he knew both of them will never see each other again, let alone on the same side, after this conversation.

First of all, as a person who is very closely (but 100%) related to Russian culture, I can confirm that most of the old songs, folk songs, and poetry are about _Suffering and Pain._
The reason for that is, *_I think_* , because of how hard is to live in a vast land where only _Power and Strength_ are one of the only measurements of your worth. And at the same time - the exact measurement - is your own downfall, if we compare it to past historical events.
But yes, this song is intense and melancholic in a way. The Guitar gives me that _'feel of reflection_ - that while we play and sing a song we reflect on what we have been through and still going through. Might that be war, hunger, plague etc.
Last but not least, I'm still fond of a Gacha game like Arknights that incorporates such songs from various cultures. Russian nonetheless. Therefore, I can't wait until we can reach Snezhnaya in Genshin Impact. That's the most _'Ruski'_ land imaginable. I can feel those notes of suffering in combination with ballet. Ugh.....
    Thank you again, Marco! 🙏

As always I surprised with how much you can tell from the music and lyrics alone.
Requiem is definitely one of the most powerful and heavy to bear songs in Arknights. And it's gets more painful if you know the character; what he had to endure; just how long his road was, and to end like this.
And it hits even harder if you understand Russian lyrics.
I love this song, but still trying to not listen it too often. It's just too heavy to weigh on, and it's usually gets stuck in the head for some time.
Waiting for your reaction on Arknights - Immutable.
Really curious what the language of music will tell you, aside of mystic lyrics and visuals.
    Cheers
