Finally got the chance to edit some old footage before my E36 was turbocharged. In this video, I show how to remove the stock DME (BMW ecu) from the car and replace the stock chip for a performance chip. I chose to go with the W.A.R chip from Miller Performance because of the fact that I could modify the tune myself using their software! The installation procedure is easy and can be done fairly quickly. See the end for some launch control action!

I had one of the warchip a trace off of micro chip fried after 8 months after having it they didn't want to warranty it yes it was great when it was working

Miller performance does have several videos explaining their software UI, but I’ll consider making a video because the software is finicky to use

I know it was a while since you completed this chip change but is this only really benifishal for a turbo charged car.
I'd say that if you plan on doing a lot of bolt-on modifications to even an Naturally Aspirated engine, an aftermarket ecu chip will help maximize power gains, and optimize performance with those modifications. With a turbocharged car it gets more complicated and requires the chip/custom tunes because of the variety of part configurations for Forced Induction.
Hey man, did the écu needs a special tune for the turbo kit or does it understand the pressure sensing ? I’m currently working on my e30 m50 swap but can’t figure how to make it easy to tune shutout going on aftermarket écu
What do you need to use a performance chip do you need like headers air intake or the chip will just do for now

hey man im looking into boosting my 325i, actually stroking it to 3.0 first but im looking for a tuning option, long story short my basic question is can i buy the basic miller chip for around 400$ and tune it for boost or do i have to buy the turbo tuning package? without the package im looking to boost my car but another 1k for tuning is shooting out of my budget atm
I actually did what you're asking about , but ended up sourcing the same injectors for cheaper. The key things you need to consider with the tuning platform you choose for the build is injector sizing, Injector compatibility with the tuning software/ecu, and maf sensor. Unless you choose to do a custom tune, you're limited to the injectors and maf sensors that would come with the Miller or Rk tune kit because theyve already done the work to find parts that work best with their tunes.
Pawinning so in short I could get the basic miller chip and it still has all the user tune options and then I just have to get similar injectors, and figure out a maf and essentially making my own kit to tune it and spending a lot less
@@ethanlaye192 yes. You can source the chip and injectors. But in order to get the turbo base tune you still need to buy the kit (but you can omit the parts you already have). The maf and base tune is what's left to buy through. For my Miller turbo kit I did that and they emailed me the base tune (I'd hit up both rk and Miller to make sure they haven't changed any services cuz it's been a few years)

Yes, depending on the mods you have, you can increase fuel octane requirements and extract a little more HP with supporting mods

Chips are most peneficial on a turbo diesel. aslong as it has an electric injection pump. They usually raise Boost pressure and add more fuel... ''Performance'' chips don't do shit on n/a cars compared to turbocharged cars! Sorry for bad english
And note if you chip turbo diesel car with a shitty ebay chip there is a risk that you run into limp mode issues, or add to much boost that your worn turbo can't handle
