Death of Dinobot

- Transformers Beastwars or Beasties has the best funeral sequence out of all the series. You don't have to agree with me but between the final words and the artistry of the sequence you can see what I mean.
Quickstrike: So...what's a warrior without...weapons eh?
Dinobot:...A WARRIOR STILL!
ILuvSmexyShowgirls Such a good line.
Roasted
Defeating 7 Predacons, half of which were upgraded to transmetal and Dinobot wasn't, really proves how great of a warrior Dinobot was. Had he survived the Maximals definitely would have won the Beast Wars a lot quicker and there would have been less deaths.
Yeah but im not sure if waspinator counts. A feather could make him explode at this point
Very true
Dinobot 1 VS Rampage?
@@beepityboop3740 Or perhaps a Dinobot II slicing him like Swiss cheese.
I mean, seriously. 1) Rattrap, the character that seemed to hold the most heated (and continual) arguments with Dinobot, acts with utter devastation *instantly* upon seeing Dinobot's condition, obviously aware of how far gone he is. This is even after their last conversation was him delivering a sharp, painful jab at how they couldn't trust Dinobot anymore. When he brings this back up in a positive light, basically apologizing for it, Dinobot gets one last insult in, and Rattrap simply smiles rather than fire back.
2) THE MUSIC. You don't even notice it immediately. It starts very quiet, and fades in gradually over the course of the scene.
3) Dinobot's poetic, Shakespearean final speech, down to quoting Hamlet at the end.
4) Cheetor's pleading for someone to offer a solution has to be mentioned as well. Dinobot has been a rather big, and early influence on Cheetor in the Beast Wars. Cheetor looks up to the guy, even if he does realize how silly Dinobot and Rattrap can get.
5) Optimus' Eulogy. You can actually hear his voice breaking as he obviously tries not to break into robo-tears.
6) Rattrap, of all people, is the first to stand and salute Dinobot's spark. This just goes to show how close the two had become over the series, despite (and indeed probably because of) all their arguing.
7) THE MISSING MAN FORMATION. I suspect that was the breaking point for a lot of people who had somehow managed to endure the scene up to this point.
Dinobot's death was an utter *MASTERPIECE*.
i always choked up when i hear optimus's voice crack a bit. you think they ruined it when they brought him back as a clone working for the predacons?
EclipseHedgehog That wasn't really Dinobot, it was just a clone made from Rampage's spark.
Prince of Saiyans Plus, in his final moments the real Dinobot resurfaced and he died once again an honorable warrior.
+RamYouUptheButt a warrior made from genetic material from Dinobot, Rampage's spark, and the Transmetal Driver. There was a draft for an episode where Rattrap injects Dinobot's core consciousness into the clone.
zls9890 The idea persisted though, with the clone eventually getting Dinobot's "spirit" back at the very end. It just wasn't explained how.
Dinobot is without question the greatest Warrior in all of Beastwars. First he dies saving all of humanity, then he comes back as a Transmetal, and dies again saving the Maximals and enabling them to get home!
rattrap and dinobot are like those friends who always give each other shit and make fun of each other but would die for one another :) true brocons
gio bossio technically brobots, but I'm not one to judge, especially in scenes like this.
I also like the next scene where that one early hominid finds the tool Dinobot created and, upon discovering its ability to make food retrieval and killing of predators easier, yells up at the heavens in gratitude.
Not only did Dinobot save the human race, he taught them about tools, hence accelerating their evolution.
This was one of the few series that actually portrayed death in a "kids show" well.
Transformers Prime has it too, and it's much deeper in that...they off one of the main team on the first episode, spoiler I know, BUT it has a lasting effect on the team, especially his partner. (I didn't spoil who was killed....and OMG OPTIMUS DIES #trolling)
I've already watched all of Transformers Prime I'm surprised the show has a Y7 rating.
MrReynoFish Fish Yeah, they really pushed it with some of the scenes, but in all honesty they didn't push the rating any more than Courage The Cowardly Dog did. I suppose because of how well written the story was, and how it impacted the other characters, the censors didn't really mind. In fact the networks probably found themselves astounded with how well they worked with that rating, and still managed to get some legit good stuff here.
Naruto200Man What about Starscream & Vector Prime from Unicron Trilogy?
Captain Ferox I never watched Unicron Trilogy.
Oh dear God, I saw first saw this as a 9 year old. 20 some years later I still tear up every time I see this. And you can NOT tell me that's wrong.
I agree I was in tears seeing my favorite character dinobot die
Hector Morales I was even sadder to see him reincarnated as a villain. At least he got to die heroically a SECOND time. Yeah, Dinobot gets TWO sad heroic deaths.
+Henry Hammond yeah but his first death is what made us cry
Hector Morales I was holding out all through Beast Machines to see him get resurrected again... but alas not.
Better rep than Optimus; G1: a hero's death and a bitch death (no disrespect to the guy, just the guy who wrote the death scene), Beast Machines: a death 'cause he was being a bit of a dumb ass and a proper heroic sacrifice, and a chance for Micheal "I'm a cunt" Bay to redo his first death to make it look like he was a bitch all along.
It's a shame so many people will overlook this awesome series because of the dated graphics and the fact they're animals. They're missing out...
What's amazing is that if you watch the behind the scenes stuff from the DVDs, you learn that this show was actually groundbreaking in terms of CGI technology when it came out. The animation doesn't hold up well considering how far we've come since 1996, but at the time this show was pretty revolutionary in terms of what its animators could do.
I remember seeing a video where one of the showrunners was talking about one of the animators discovering they could realistically make a stone skip across the water, which was apparently the first time anyone had been able to produce that effect somewhat realistically through CGI.
Honestly, I love the animation of Beast Wars. It's like old wine, y'know?
uh beast wars actually has avoided that pitfall as its still held up as the best incarnation of transformers and kids who have watched it in recent times do still love the show the fact it uses robots makes the dated CGI less of a issue for the most part
Game of Thrones - take note. THIS is how you kill off key characters!
too cheesy it wouldt work in GOT which is more realistic
Shakespearean death is not cheesy. It's poetic and GoT is just prosaic.
This comment aged well to be honest.
fusiontoa18 comment however hasnt.
Beast Wars is pre Game of Thrones.
This comment aged very, very well - given how the last two series disposed of key characters anticlimactically.
" The future is not fixed, and my choices are my own... and yet, how ironic! For I now find, I have no choice at all! I am warrior... let the battle be joined....."
God, that monologue. It sends chills down my spine still.
The writers for this show were absolute fucking geniuses.
Sam Rosenberg agreed. May have been a "kids show", but damn, did it have some good writing. Shame Dinobot 2 was wasted. I would've loved to see him having more positive dynamics with the Maximals, besides the final episode.
Bumblebot 245 The Transmetal 2 Dinobot should had gone with The Maximals in Beast Machines. It would had been introsting to see what he had looked like. It also would had been cool to had seen him communicate with the original Dinobot through the Oracle. He would had helped the team alot with dealing with Megatron. What do you think would had made Beast Machines different if Dinobot lived?
Admittedly, that would have been an interesting dynamic. But alas, it was not meant to be. At least we know he died nobly, fighting for a just cause.
In 2 Million years after Beast Machines, a statue of Optimus Prime giving a sword to a saluting Dinobot will stand in Iacon and the plaque on the base will read "The Greatest of Cybertron".
2 million?
The Autobots don't even wake up until 4 million years later.
*****
After beast machines, not beast wars. BM is in the future
SigmaXVirus Apologies, I misread your comment.
Source?
Beast Machines is non-canon
this is definitely one of the most emotional deaths in transformers history
What about
anime history at that
What about Transmutate?
rokuspace 2 deaths in a row that was a lot, this one kick me and then the transmutate kick me again
alvaro18gr So true
You know Dinobot had it really rough amongst the other Beasties! He didn't fit in with the Predacons because of his code of honor and he did not fit in with the Maximals either!
Honestly, he became a true Maximal in this episode, and the rest of the Maximals saw it.
calling him a true maximal is insulting he still had his predicon herritage and he was proud of it he had the best of both groups
and the maximals even honored him by fallowing predicon customs for the dead the burning his body in a funeral pyre is a predicon thing not a maximal
My eight year old emotions could not handle this episode.
i bought the dvds reacently and when i got to this episode i wanted to skip it cause of how heart breaking it was to see my childhood hero die again but i ended up watching it in the end was crying for hours
You too, huh?
Oh man you guys are not the only ones. I was heart broken when this happened. I remember being very upset when transmetal 2 Dinobot was a predicon.
Zach Quam Me too. First, they kill Dinobot and then they recreate him and turn him into a monster...Talk about rubbing salt in our wounds
+DarkEcoMaiden haha! At least when Rampage died he came back for a few minutes.
Zach Quam Yeah. I just wish it wasn't so painful for him. When he started screaming like that, I almost had a heart attack...I still do
When I fall for the last time I want to say "Then, there is nothing to regret."
All of us. Most of us will probably have regrets but to die a good death is something to be honored and the best any of us can really hope for.
I want a death like Dinobot's
The battle cry when he destroys the disk hits me right in the feels every time.
Yes. Scott McNeil at his very best.
He lived a warrior, died a hero
- Optimus Primal 1998
“Let his Spark join the Matrix... the greatest of Cybertron.”
@@kylestubbs8867 Till all are One.
*THE* best Transformers character ever!
Hell yes!
Great as Optimus Prime.
one of the few death scenes in animation that rivals optimus prime's death in the first transformers movie.
Agreed, and in my opinion even better than Prime's.
zombiejlt1 I gotta agree. Prime died just for Hasbro to replace him. Dinobot died for his code of honor. Rust in peace, our honorable Dinobot. -_-
But Optimus Prime didn't stay dead.
Duo Maxwel
does he ever?
Duo Maxwel Which is why Dinobot's death had more impact! Megatron created another clone of him but that wasn't really him.
i would dare to say that Dinobots death is just as or even greater then G1 Optimus's death.
He Lived A Warrior And Died A Hero
I don't think any death will top G1 Optimus, simply for the shock value it caused alone from the kids. I don't think many saw it coming. Cartoons back in the 80's was another beast, you never saw a lot of death in TV, and especially of main characters.
gerble36 that is true, but this was still a very powerful scene,
I agree. I was more choked up over Dinobots death.
The makers of this show probably knew the animation would quickly become dated. For that, I'm grateful they didn't use it as a crutch, which resulted in this amazing writing.
***** That has literally nothing to do with what I said.
***** I said absolutely nothing about the first characters to get killed. I said the show has good writing. That's it.
***** Lol it happens.
After all these years, this still brings tears to my eyes *sniff*
I know how you feel. The missing man formation and funeral pyre were poetic touches to his funeral.
@@ericschuller908 It's been twenty-two years, and as best I can tell, no other children's cartoon has ever used the Missing Man formation. Let alone use it so fittingly.
Made me cry as a little girl... Makes me cry now..
His friendship with Rattrap makes it even more heartbreaking. The comments they make to each other here and Rattrap's salute are extraordinary.
Most series would do an ep like this with a meaningless premise, but they have dinobot not only ensure the human race exists, they also have him destroy the golden disc. He is the great hero in the history of the maximals.
The salute is especially good because rattrap isn't really a military man, so a salute from him is quite significant.
Not only does he destroy the golden disc and save the human race, but he directly teaches the human race about toolmaking and weapons; they saw him create the hammer by impaling his club on that stone, and one of them uses the hammer later to kill a snake which had been established as a threatening predator to these early-humans earlier in the episode.
like dis if u cry evry tiem
normaly i don't do likes when people ask for them but in this case i had to as when i was young dinobot was my hero and when he died all i did was cry
taotd I know where that's from! That's really good!
I still wish he lived.
But at least he was spared Beast Machines
This show got some balls, killing off characters such as Tigertron, Air-Razor, Dinobot, Depth Charge.
And Tigerhawk.
You can say Beast Wars' animation hasn't aged that well all you want.
But one thing has aged beautifully throughout the years, and that's its story.
All things considered, I'd say it's aged well, when co pared to other shows out at the time.
Sad so many people will never watch this series. Dinobot the traitor to the decepticons. Then redemption with the Autobots. Then traitor again to the Autobots. Then the most heroic sacrifice fighting Transmetal Decepticons. Nontransmetal underpowered outmatched! Sacrificing his life for the human race...And as he lays dying he has one last joke with his brother rattrap. Then speaks his last words from Shakespeare. Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly, the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence... michael bay who?
Uncrazamatic They're called the Maximals and Predacons. They are the descendents of the Autobots and Decepticons respectively.
Also, he and Rattrap aren't brothers. Sorry to be a stick in the mud, just figured I'd point it out! Although I understand what you meant!
You know, there's a lot of cases where I rewatch shows from when I was little and turn out a little bummed that certain parts weren't as good as I remember.
But this... the music, the voice acting, the mood... it's on point.
Tony Stark’s sacrifice and death in Avengers: Endgame was eerily similar to this.
was really pissed when they brought a transmetal clone of Dinobot into the show and kept him evil.
He turned good at the last minute in the conclusion of Nemesis.
yeah, that sucked but it made for a perfect ending when dinobot became good at the last minute and saved all the maximals and defeated megatron.
There was a lost episode called "DarkGlass" in which Rattrap finds Dinobot's memories and then tries to put them into Transmetal Dinobot. Which would've explained why Transmetal Dinobot turns good
I think it's meant to show the divide between the two factions. The Maximals saluted Dinobot's spark as it flew up to join the Matrix, then recycled his lifeless body as per Predacon tradition, honoring the finality of his sacrifice. Meanwhile, Megatron disgraces that honor by reviving his former lietenant's likeness... using half the spark of another still-living Predacon.
It also explains why his clone chose to perish along with the ship. He knew it was unjustly borrowed time.
"Tell my tale to those who ask, tell it truly. The ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence."
This is how i would want to go out. A warriors death!
Nowadays, there is nothing worth dying for. How unfortunate.
Indeed. Dinobot would def not do this for us if it was today lol.
Perhaps, but it is worth trying to find something; however small
Tobinatorman I retract my statement. Your right, thats what dinobot did!
same but i have nothing to fight for
“He lived a warrior, and died a hero.” No greater words were ever spoken. I say this to the families of the veterans who have died in battle. Like a certain rich, Dark Kighting, Caped Crusading, vigilante detective, I value life. And despise killing, even when there looks like there’s no other choice. God bless.
If Dinobot were a Klingon...he'd definitely have a place in Sto'vo'kor.
Is Dinobots armada starscream descendent
No. Armada and Beast Wars are not in the same continuity.
Dinobot was probaly Inspired by worf tbh
dinobot was a traitor, then he was a nuisance then he was resurrected then he died a hero...dinobot was the best part of this show..when he was a predacon, he was the only one with honor..he was a complex character who lived and died by a code of honor
Seriously. Rattrap and Dinobot have the best dynamic in this series.
They had chemistry. I liked their friendship just about as much as the one between Spock and Leonard MacCoy
+Spokavriel great comparison. There's a lot of similarities there. Differing ideologies but a fondness for one another
+Spokavriel I have been thinking about your comment a lot for the last day. It is seriously a perfect comparison. Absolutely excellent.
This is a true blaze of glory. The end of this character Arc was truly poetic. there is only one blaze of glory that can really match this and you only Read about it, Broxigar saurfang and Dino bot faced insurmountable odds and fell dealing a critical blow to the main enemy to secure the fate of the future. Those two were True warriors to the bitter end.
This was such a sad scene. I watched this show as a little boy and then again in college. I understood a lot more of the show and teared up at this scene. No matter how old I get, this is one of the saddest things I've seen. A warrior who switched sides, fought with himself about his destiny, and saved the human race. But honor meant everything to him.
Dinobot had the touch
You have to love how Dinobot's last words are a reference to Hamlet.
tears, tears everywhere !!! :(
"He lived a warrior, and died a hero. May His spark join the matrix, the greatest of Cyber Tron"
Easily the 2nd saddest scene out of every Transformers Cartoon. Death of Optimus Prime, from the Old Series, is the 1st.
At least Optimus was revived at the end of the G1 series, AND in this. Dinobot didn't have a chance.
I mean, Dinobot is resurrected in Beast Wars too... and he dies a SECOND heroic sacrificial death in the series finale.
May the spark of that warrior, inspire others to be honorable as he was in giving his life for those yet to see the sun
That scream, I'll never forget that scream. It's filled with such determination and pain and just the raw emotion in it in general.
R.I.P Dinobot
Dinobot kicked ass!
No matter how many times I see this scene or the battle leading to it, I feel like I'm about to cry. RIP forever more, Dinobot. 😭
Tell my tale to those who ask my ill deeds along with the good and let me be judged accordingly the rest is silence. Shakespeare may have came up with that line for one of his plays but Dinobot made it beautiful this was the first transformers death I cried watching due to beast wars being my gateway transformers series
see you in ValHalla
Well... not yet. Later on, when Megatron creates a clone of Dinobot powered by half of Rampage's spark... the gates to Valhalla get shut for a _good, long while._
To think, if all of cybertron and primus were there. Dinobot would've far succeeded to the title of prime.
I remember this scene still. After Dinobot died, I stopped watching Beast Wars. Took me almost two or three months before I was able to continue watching.
There aren't enough words in any given language to sing the praises of Dinobot's bad-ass, single-handed victory against all of the Predacons and of his ultimate and legendary sacrifice.
To all who watch this, Stand to attention and Salute, to houner one of the Greatest hero's not only of cybertron, but of earth
On that note, it's the only time you'll ever see the Missing Man formation in a kids' cartoon.
The battle cry when he shatters the disk gets me right in the feels every time.
Did anyone else notice RatTrap reverted to season 1 rattrap in the ending scene?
More than 3 a year for over 8 years actually.
Watched when I was 8 and at 25 one of those moments that still touch me.
phrasing?
Greatest Transformer episode ever.
Is that pre-transmetal Rattrap? The color scheme is all wrong, anyway! Blooper!!
+Catnip Yeah Yup, that is indeed a blooper, and one they acknowledged later on. They basically went "How the hell did we miss that? Whoops. Yup, you caught us with our pants down on this one!"
Till are one Dinobot your sacrifice will not be forgotten
The Vegeta of Beasties lol
Dinobot wins most of his fights though.
Prince of Saiyans well first season he got shot down alot....
Those were cheap shots. Dinobot is the best fighter in BW and nobody except for Tigerhawk can beat him in a fair fight.
Prince of Saiyans
you are very correct and that was part of the reason he didnt like the preds much....little honor
SuperGamefreak18 Indeed. He could have beaten Megatron in the first episode if Megatron wasn't such a coward and had Scorponok blast him away.
"Well fought, my friend. You saved the valley. You saved the lives of those who live here and those who are still to come".
Optimus Primal: He lived a Warrior......& died a Hero. Let his Spark join the Matrix......the Greatest of Cybertron.......
Rest In Peace Dinobot.
Tell my tale to those who ask.Tell it truly, my evil deeds along with the good,And let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence.- DinobotHe lived a warrior, and dies a hero.Let his Spark join the Matrix. The greatest of Cybertron.- Optimus PrimalI am not ashamed to say that I always cry at this. For he fought for what he truly believed in, not in what others told him. He went like a true hero.
I still remember crying my eyes out when this episode was over it really was one of the sadiest moments in Transformers history and still bring a tear to anyone's eye.
I don't care how many times I watch this episode, it still makes me tear up. This was by far the best episode of the whole programme.
"He lived a warrior and died a hero; let his spark join the matrix with the greatest of Cybertron"
till are one
Optimus Primal: "He lived a warrior and died a hero. May his Spark join the Matrix with the greatest of Cybertron.
Something I read recently said that the funeral the Maximals gave Dinobot was apparently according to Predacon warrior code (something that Dinobot was an adamant follower of even after his defection from their ranks), meaning the Maximals either knew about or researched these customs and gave Dinobot a sendoff fitting of his culture even though it didn't quite align with their own. Mad respect for Dinobot to the end.
They flew the Missing man formation. Something Airforce and Navy avaitors do to honor their fallen friends.
He lived a warrior, and died a hero. Let his spark join the matrix, [with] the greatest of Cybertron.
Im 22 and i can say that dinebot taught me a lesson in life!! Never give up and fight like a hero
I rememer when my mother asked me why i cried when i watched this episode when i was a child....
If I ever meet the voice actor for Dinobot, he's getting a salute and a drink for pulling off this scene perfectly.
sonrouge his name is Scott McNeil, he has done alot of voice work among which is Wolverine and Ed and Al's Dad in the original Fullmetal Alchemist. I totally agree though, he did great. I saw a interview with him one time where he said he did so many voices on BW that sometimes he did whole scenes by hisself.
He did both Dinobot and Rattrap, which immediately qualifies him for "entire scenes by himself". Then add in that he also voiced Silverbolt and Waspinator. Fun fact: One fan modified a Waspinator toy to have a pop-off head, which he brought to show Scott on a few occasions. Eventually, he let Scott keep it. Scott *loved* that thing.
I feel like making a Waspinator toy that didn't just randomly fall to pieces to begin with was a huge oversight by the manufacturer lmao
I'm currently 23, I've rewatched beast wars a fair few times since my childhood and I've cried every time I've seen this episode. Rust in peace, great hero.
I just noticed Dinobot quoted Hamlet in his final words
What a great warrior he was... Dinobot, we'll always remember you! :')
I love how Rattrap, the guy Dinobot argued mostly with is the first to salut him
Still sheda tear every time I see this. As Optimus pointed out: "He lived a Warrior, and died a Hero."
Even on his deathbed Dinobot and Rattrap still throw insults at each other. XD
Dinobot was interesting because he was always searching for meaning. He was always skeptical of the Maximals altruism, yet as someone who valued honor he never bought into the Predacons deceptive and destructive ways either. He never truly fit into either camp. Yet there came a moment when he absolutely had to choose what he wanted to be, and he chose to be a maximal and save history. This is my favorite transformers story.
Optimus Primal: He lived a Warrior......& died a Hero. Let his Spark join the Matrix.....the Greatest of Cybertron.
This was a criminally underrated series in my opinion. When all is considered, this show dealt with a lot of subjects that most "regular" tv shows deal with, just better. Personally, I think the 2nd season was when this show really hit its stride, because even though the 1st season was good, it still felt like your typical morning cartoon.
The best 3 last words in Transformers:
"Until the day... til all are one"
-Optimus Prime, Generation 1
"Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly. The ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence"
-Dinobot, Beast Wars
"IT'S TIME TO FINISH THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL! ACTIVATE PROTON CANNON! YOU'RE ALL MINE UNICRON!"
Starscream, Armada
Prime had his body obliterated and Rhynox was there with a unique opportunity. Dinobot depleted his energy reserves to the point where he couldn't maintain the connection between his spark and a body anymore. So even if it could have been retrieved it wouldn't have the power to bond again at least not that soon and there wasn't an available blank protoform.
I'm reading Hamlet currently and it reminded me of how Dinobot frequently quoted shakespeare. This is one of the few cartoons to ever make me feel genuinely sad and tear up. Best episode of the entire Transformers series.
Rest in Peace Dinobot, Greatest Warrior of Cybertron, with the Spark of a Poet. May you be remembered forever and Ever through time and Space for your Noble Sacrifice.
I remember Action Blast... good times.
He truly deserves to be in the Transformers Hall of Fame. Dinobot, you were a Gentleman, Friend, Warrior. May your spark join those who fought bravely.
This scene really hit me when I first saw it...The lines, the salute, the funeral pyre. All very well done.
"He lived a warrior....and died a hero. Let his spark join the Matrix. The greatest of Cybertron".
Nice work. This is amazing.
This was one of the first character deaths in a show I ever experienced as a kid. I must have been 6 or so years old at the time. I cried then, and still cry to this day.
Everything about the way this played out was done beautifully, and better, than most media we see today.
Dinobots guttoral scream as he used the last bit of his energy to destroy the disc was insane.
Scott Mcneill is a fucking legend.
Also, this show never got a lot of credit for the amazing music. The low dark synth and mood setting music helped so much.
This was the saddest moment of my childhood. I can't even watch it now without shedding a tear.
Maximals searching: where could he be?
*hears ungodly banshee raptor scream that would make Satan shit himself*
Oh, there he is.
Forgot the eplouge Not as emotional BUT still very important
To me, this is the most powerful scene in any transformer episode. Farewell Dinobot.
