Any song that can weave a Cherry Cola into its lyrics is bound to be good. Savage Garden was very underrated and their music has stood the rest of time.
way back in the 60s the Kinks had a hit with Lola - originally the lyrics referenced Coca Cola but the BBc would not play it due to advertising restrictions so the Kinks had to re-record it substituting Cherry cola to get around the restriction!!
When this song came on the radio a few years ago, I was taken completely by surprise when my mom began singing it! I never knew this song was her cup of tea until she was jamming along to the tune! Then I discovered that she had the Savage Garden album that has this song on it! SURPRISINGLY AWESOME!
Great Australian band. This debut album exploded. 10 of the 12 songs made the top 40 in Australia. Mid 90's. They had been writing songs for years, formed and spent months refining the best ones for the album.
Congrats on your 1900th video reaction!!! In their short existence (eight years as a band), they only put out two albums. This was their first hit, which came out in 1996 (YES, A 90S SONG!). "Truly Madly Deeply" came off the same album. "To the Moon and Back" and "Break Me Shake Me" are also worth checking out from that record. From their sophomore album, they had "The Animal Song", "I Knew I Loved You", "Affirmation", and "Crash and Burn". They got a lot of mileage out of those two albums! Gotta love those Aussie bands! (And may I recommend a couple of other Aussie bands you haven't heard yet - "What's My Scene" by Hoodoo Gurus, and "Under the Milky Way" by The Church.)
25 years later and I still know every word. Savage Garden was huge in the late 90s and for a great reason! "I Knew I Loved You" was the biggest hit from their second album, but "Crash and Burn" will always be my favorite song by them!
“To the Moon and Back” is my favorite of theirs. You should check out LIFEHOUSE “Hanging by a Moment” Third Eye Blind “How’s It Gonna Be” or Edwain McCain “I’ll Be”
Finally!! When this song came out, it was the one that got me listening to the radio again. My sister and oldest daughter told me I had to hear it and I was instantly hooked! Darren Hayes, the ;lead singer, was previously an English teacher. Jay, you might also like "Break Me, Shake Me".
So sad to hear that “David Crosby” from Crosby , Stills and Nash died!!🥲 A lot of amazing music over the years!!! Glad you reacted to them yesterday!!!
Savage Garden is in my all time top 5! Other great songs include: Crash and Burn, To The Moon and Back, I Knew I Loved You, Hold Me, Break Me Shake Me...
This song and the previous one are both from their debut self titled album. They were pretty much the big hits from the album but I remember the whole album was great. Something you could listen to beginning to end. This song puts a smile on my face... when it was popular my kids were small... they loved the song and would dance around to it... they were always asking "Play the chicka cherry cola song" 😀
DARREN HAYES, the singer of Savage Garden, IMHO is the male version of Celine Dion. The man has a voice! they sold over 20 million albums in just two albums. Everyone has heard of I KNEW I LOVE YOU BEFORE I MET YOU. Darren is still going strong and has some phenomenal songs, Insatiable, So Beautiful, Animal song, Shake Me Break Me, To The Moon and Back, Darkness, I like The Way, etc....
An amazing song with a positive message and I love the way that every line in the song starts with the same two words “ I believe” Genius! You can would definitely love it because I believe ( no pun intended😂) you would agree with what the song is about. Please try; To the moon and back I knew I loved you Crash and Burn To name but, a few. Thanks for another great reaction💜🌈🙏🏻

Ok. A lotta people been wonderin a long time bout them. Is there any "real" music there? I may be in Wichita, but my roots go to Oklahoma, and you damn Okies make me wonder sumtimes. 😒
I played this album so much in my preteen years CD scratched up lol To the moon and back is another great song of this album. Their a late 90s Australian duo. Around the bubble gum pop phase 1995-2000.
Savage Garden were local homegrown boys from here in Queensland Australia. Great duo. For a different type of song from them, check out "Two Beds and A Coffee Machine". It's bloody moving and a stain on our society that it's still so relevant. Another story-telling gem is "I Don't Know You Anymore"
Excellent l heard this song in the car on the way up to the country and thought that l would suggest it for a reaction video. And voila there you are on my screen
good times.. ^_^ 24-25 yrs old.. young, free, beautiful.. felt invincible.. even as i stumbled daily, didn't feel beautiful, but i did feel free... they're part of that soundtrack of my life..
"I have such a soft spot for this song and it just keeps coming back. It's based on a dream that I had where I fell in love with a boy. And when I woke up, I missed him. I didn't know how I would ever feel that feeling again. I had this almost beautiful melancholy, romantic grief. I remembered everything about this boy who I'd never met. The smell, the kiss, the feeling, the butterflies in my tummy, all that stuff. And so I spent about a week mourning that feeling. I used to think, 'Maybe if I go to sleep, I'll see him again.'" --Savage Garden's Darren Hayes on "I Want You"
Oh, I love Savage Garden. "TRLruly, Maddly, Deeply" was used for my wedding song as I walked down the isle. Many other great hits though! They were also awesome live!!!
This is a great song but "Truly, Madly, Deeply" is a total classic. One of my Top 5 of all time actually. #1 is "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac; #2 is "Bridge over Troubled Waters" by Simon and Garfunkel.
The 90s vibes are ~immaculate~. This song was my jam in high school. But Jay is also right, you can really hear the influence of some 80s bands that you've covered on the channel before. Listen to this and think of another great Aussie band that you love- INXS.
Savage Garden exploded in the 90's. They had signed a deal to perform at our local show in Queensland Australia, just before they hit the big time. They were just a couple of blokes in a band from Brisbane. They honoured the deal and came and performed for a low fee. So we saw them perform their hits at the show for the price of entry. This was just before they started touring the world. We also got to meet them afterwards. They were still excited to sign autographs and meet the crowd. Still have the signed cd!
David Crosby of CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG died today. One of their songs I believe you have reacted to is TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL. R.I.P. DAVID. The member of this band NEIL YOUNG was with them for a while
They have so many cool, but diverse songs. One for Amber : I knew I loved you (my song when I was pregnant with my daughter). And for Jay : The Animal song. Also Break me, Shake me; Tears of Pearls; Santa Monica; A Thousand Words; Violet
Because I watched your A League of Their Own reaction and you mentioned The Rosie O'Donnell Show, Rosie introduced Savage Garden to a lot of US audiences for the first time. She heard I Want You before it got popular and started talking about it on the show saying how great it was. She even had a button at her desk that would play a bit of the song, I think around the "ch-ch-cherry cola" part.
80s again!!! How you have female Friday you should have one artist Wednesday, one artist all three songs, and or rabbit hole day. Lots of catching up to do. Big fan ☺️
I hope the next song by Savage Garden will be ...'I Knew I Loved You' (1999), and then 'The Animal Song'(1999) . Those songs are wonderful too! I love this band:)
Savage Garden's "Crash and Burn" is my all time favorite. It has different meanings for different people. Helped me get through some really tough times in my life. Really worth listening to.
Hayes publicly came out as gay in the early 2000s but was married to a woman and struggling with his sexuality when he was writing the duo's debut album. When asked if any of the songs in Savage Garden's catalog contained any coded gay messages, the singer told Billboard: "'I Want You' is a song about a dream about being in love with a male energy, and waking up and feeling sad that I knew there was a part of me that was missing." Hayes told Apple Music more about the dream that inspired the song. "I have such a soft spot for this song and it just keeps coming back," he said. "It's based on a dream that I had where I fell in love with a boy. I used to think, 'Maybe if I go to sleep, I'll see him again.'"
Mid to late 90s you basically herd these guys on the radio or CD many times a week here in Australia. The guitarist 🎸 went to my high school. There a good band and good humans
This was one of the first songs I ever heard when I came to America back in 1996. I rediscovered their music back in high school and it took me BACK. LOVE this channel, and love your reactions!! "Truly Madly Deeply" is their other biggest hit too!
I played this song for hours, over and over, to finally learn the words he was singing and was finally able to sing alone with him. I still to this day struggle with the second verse of the song.
Soooo many great Savage Garden songs. "To The Moon & Back", "Affirmation", "Crash & Burn", "Santa Monica" & my favourite "Two Beds & A Coffee Machine". There are more but that's a good start.
I fell in love with this song first time I heard it back in the day. Also, I get some pretty heavy vibes of Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" from the retro-futurist design of the video, and the girl in the vid is almost a dead ringer for the love-interest/object-of-obsession from that movie.
RIP..David Crosby. Almost cut my hair was one of my favorites. He used to live in my hometown for some time, much against his wishes I might add, but when he would play this..the warden hated it. :)
Also known as "The Cherry Cola song." "To The Moon And Back" was another good song of theirs. "I Knew I Loved You (before I met you)" was popular among the online dating crowd in the late 90s.
I was 10 years old when this was playing on the mainstream radio, this was my favorite song from them, the flow into the chorus and the smooth vocals on the chorus were dope AF. The mid 90s was a whole different vibe. First time I remember hearing this song in 1997.
TOO THE MOON AND BACK, from this same album, along with this one are my favorite! I knew I loved you from their sophomore album is my fav on that one. I was obsessed with them in Jr high. Wow... the memories from this one !
Like some of the other commenters, while listening to "I Want You", I immediately thought of the song "One Week" by Canada's Barenaked Ladies, off their album "Stunt" from 1998. At that time they were still a 5 piece band. The song has a quick tempo with sections of rapped lyrics. If you watched the tv series "The Big Bang Theory", the opening theme song is by the Barenaked Ladies. They are fun, they may make you smile and smiles make more smiles. 🎸😎 ( RIP David Crosby )
Great to see some Savage Garden on here! Uber-talented duo from Australia who, unfortunately, only released two albums before they broke up. Very versatile. They could bring the nice ballad, catchy pop song, and even songs with a little more rock edge. I'm not sure if this song gets talked about much, but if y'all are looking for some Savage Garden that sounds a little more rock-ish, give "Break Me, Shake Me" a try. A little more aggressive tempo and playing on the instruments, but not over-the-top.
Hey I know female Friday is fixing to be in effect and I have a suggestion Amber I kinda stumbled across this song two weeks ago actually never heard of her but the little bit I heard was incredible trying to figure out where I had heard the song before and then it came to me it was on the soundtrack to Days of thunder with Tom Cruise so I googled the soundtrack and found the artist learning more about her she was right there on the edge of stardom but didn't really enjoy the aspect of having no privacy anymore so she took a long break she is back now but going at a slower pace her name is Maria McKee and the song is show me heaven I think you and Jay will really like her
@@sabrinaaustin8432 😂 Lots of us left out there, Sabrina... We just refuse to be as effeminate as modern women seem to be seeking. The notion of being potentially emasculated is hardly appealing to straight guys 😏
Darren Hayes (singer) is fantastic, I'm going to his concert in April. You have to listen to I Knew I Loved You, To the Moon and Back, Hold Me and Crash and Burn. Darren has a lot of fantastic solo songs too.
Yes! Much better than the first one today! Lots of Energy! And I really like the 'changes' in Tempo. And as Amber said 'It's Different'. I like it, and do remember hearing it a Lot! Love You Guys!
“To the Moon and Back” is my absolute favorite by Savage Garden!! 😉❤
Agreed
Same for me!
Def
Must agree 💯
Completely agree! I still put it on repeat all the time! 😎👍
Any song that can weave a Cherry Cola into its lyrics is bound to be good. Savage Garden was very underrated and their music has stood the rest of time.

I was going to the exact same thing, but you beat me to it!
It WAS "Coca Cola" but he had to change the lyric to avoid a lawsuit
They were okay
I think you mean the test* of time lol.

"Affirmation" is one of theirs I think is worth a listen. The lyrics are superbly written and the uptempo rhythm drags you right in.
Was gonna suggest this. It's my favorite out of all their songs.
Can they just do the whole album please and thank you 😅
🥰🥰🥰 "To The Moon And Back", "Break Me, Shake Me", "The Animal Song" and "Crash & Burn" are great too.
'Crash & Burn' for sure!! Another song for emotional people having problems...
Break me shake me kind of sounds like Michael Jackson’ish
YES!! Yes, yes!! I hope that they will react to each of those songs.
Break me, Shake me is AMAZING but would love to add Tears of Pearls. You can really feel the emotion in that one.

1st Verse:
Anytime I need
To see your face
I just close my eyes
And I'm taken
To a place
Where your crystal mind
And magenta feelings
Take up shelter
In the base of my spine
Sweet like a chick-a-cherry cola
2nd Verse:
I don't need to
Try and explain
I just hold on tight
And if it happens again
I might move so slightly
To the arms and
the lips and the face
Of the human cannonball
That I need to
I want to
CHORUS
3rd verse:
I'm the kind of person
Who endorses a deep commitment
Getting comfy
Getting perfect
Is what I live for
But a look
And then a smell of perfume
It's like I'm down on the floor
And I don't know what I'm in for
4th verse:
Conversation has a time
And place in the interactions
Of a lover and a mate
But the time of talking
Using symbols
Using words
Can be likened
To a deep-sea diver
Who is swimming with raincoat.
Come stand a little bit closer
Breathe in and get a bit higher
You'll never know
What hit you
When I get to you.
Just a word in your ears. David Crosby has died at 81.
Hey, thnx 4 the update. To bad. A shame, but he's pretty lucky to get this far.
He formed The Byrds and Crosby, Stills and Nash. He wrote huge hits for many artists including Bob Dylan and Judy Collins.

I fell in love with this song first time I heard it back in the day. Also, I get some pretty heavy vibes of Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" from the retro-futurist design of the video, and the girl in the vid is almost a dead ringer for the love-interest/object-of-obsession from that movie.
This is my favorite Savage Garden song, and my sister grew up listening to them. She loves them. 🥰🧡
RIP David Crosby!
I love Sound Garden!
Both of their albums were absolute bangers from beginning to end. Try "To the Moon and Back" or "Affirmation."
I loved them as a kid in the 90s... to the moon and back is another great one to check out...
Just find their album Affirmation and listen to the whole thing. You will now regret it! One of my favorite albums ever. Love me some Savage Garden!!
One of the greats of the era. I never realize this song until the chorus iconic
RIP..David Crosby. Almost cut my hair was one of my favorites. He used to live in my hometown for some time, much against his wishes I might add, but when he would play this..the warden hated it. :)
I love Jay’s reaction when the singer starts singing! I think both songs of theirs you reacted to are great just in different ways!
I have not heard this song in years. I forgot how much I enjoy it. Thanks for reminding me.
Break me shake me is my favourite
Hey I know female Friday is fixing to be in effect and I have a suggestion Amber I kinda stumbled across this song two weeks ago actually never heard of her but the little bit I heard was incredible trying to figure out where I had heard the song before and then it came to me it was on the soundtrack to Days of thunder with Tom Cruise so I googled the soundtrack and found the artist learning more about her she was right there on the edge of stardom but didn't really enjoy the aspect of having no privacy anymore so she took a long break she is back now but going at a slower pace her name is Maria McKee and the song is show me heaven I think you and Jay will really like her
Great suggestion. I love that song. She has an amazing voice!
Great 90's tune. This band didn't have huge success in the states but the two they did have were memorable. Was a great tune to dance to in the clubs.
FINALLY!! I'm SO glad y'all did this song! This is literally my JAM!! And, yes, that lead singer is sexy as HAYELL!!!
A subset of guys are thankful he bats for the other team too
@@consciousbeing1188 I know. It's another crushing blow to us straight gals trying to find ANY straight guy nowadays. Haha! No, seriously....
@@sabrinaaustin8432 😂 Lots of us left out there, Sabrina... We just refuse to be as effeminate as modern women seem to be seeking. The notion of being potentially emasculated is hardly appealing to straight guys 😏
And they do some really soulful stuff too. When I find it or remember to find it I will request those songs!!!!
Darren Hayes (singer) is fantastic, I'm going to his concert in April. You have to listen to I Knew I Loved You, To the Moon and Back, Hold Me and Crash and Burn. Darren has a lot of fantastic solo songs too.
I remember seeing them in concert and they were absolutely fantastic. “Santa Monica” is my favorite of their songs.
Yes! Much better than the first one today! Lots of Energy! And I really like the 'changes' in Tempo. And as Amber said 'It's Different'. I like it, and do remember hearing it a Lot! Love You Guys!
Understated band! Love them. Song will get stuck in your head.
I was a freshman in high school when this album was released. My best friend suggested I buy the album. The whole album "Savage Garden" is awesome!
