I really like the idea of finding (through loosening the siding or otherwise) one small area high up on the siding line, inserting and sliding each new piece of step flashing down to the correct position.
I like your six nail pattern. Not all roofers are sloppy hacks. And that’s why I appreciate these vids.
Great informative video! I've got a homeowner issue with step flashing that is juuust above my DIY abilities, so this helps a lot. Good job except the nail under flashing. Ive found in my 33 yrs as a roofer that nails should be atleast 6" away from wall when ever possible.

Best flashing tutorial I’ve found! Much better than average dude.
I’m finding that roofers that replaced roof ten years ago bodged the flashing (they just put a board and tarred the heck out of it). That board is about rotted out and I’m trying to see if I could install the flashing myself. Is it okay to remove shingles right next to the area I need to flash and reinstall them after? Or do I need to redo the entire roof /use new shingles?

Henry Fehr aeropro. Hitachi’s old patent ran out and these guys replicated the nailer and made it less expensive. I personally love it
So why not have your bottom step flashing actually kick out and push the water into the gutter vs just letting it run straight into that garage door casing?
Jimmy Jimjoe it does kick out of the wall, but that door is very inconveniently placed and is problematic. Not really another way of doing it.

Surprised to see you do that step flashing technique up at the ridge. That was surprising to see from the best damn roofer.
I'm sure you know the technique at the ridge for step flashing to cut a V out and weave each side of step flashing , yes ?
Travis Smith yes absolutely. I know of multiple ways and this one is not the best technique but does work in most cases.

Why do you flip your starter shingle backwards? I thought only farmers do that. The shingle wears out in just a few years when done that way.

Was gonna say we cut the bend on 2 peices of step and interlock them at the top but also seen guys just cut one with a angle or straight down the bend and run that over the top of the previous side
