The Actors Academy Hey, First of all, I am a practicing actor from Saudi Arabia now, Can I join the 10 hours acting MasterClass? Even when I am not in the states? Thank you very much
Scarlett Coburn It means that it doesn’t matter if it looks like your crying. That it means your making the audience feel the emotion and feel the sadness in that moment so they cry along with you.
i genuinely can’t even cry irl. like in the past 5 years, i’ve cried from emotions once. so when this came up on my recommended i thought it might work lol
To be able to cry you can 1 not blink 2 blink a lot and get into character make the facial expression you would actually crying so it’s easier so when ever you cry try to copy that face and that’s basically it
soju81 personally I’m an actress... and crying or play sad stuff is the most easy thing to play so I think it’s important to know how to make people cry but you need to be able to make people laugh too❤️
Don't use emotional recall. It's when you, for example, think of your dog dying or your sister getting in an accident. Emotional recall is when you think of the saddest moment of your life or something horrifying happening to someone/something you love. Eventually, you will get numb to the memory and it won't be important or sad anymore which causes a real toll to your mental stability. Many actors/acting coaches recommend it and it is horrible for your mental health.
When I “try” to cry on cue, I feel my eyes get a bit watery but nothing actually rolls out☹️ edit: you guys I commented this a year ago, I hope all of you are able to become great actors, and not being able to cry on cue won’t affect that. as long as you can touch the audience, you can do anything
Tiffani Walker yep! Some actors use the stare method where they don’t blink but I could never do that. The closest I’ll get is a single tear that doesn’t look that realistic. But hey, if you’re an aspiring actor all the best! Some of the best actors can’t cry on cue, but there are so many products to help. Good luck!
I love how he talked about crying on cue as a skill. Not every dancer can twerk, but that doesn't mean they are bad dancers. Not every singer can do high notes, but that doesn't make them a bad singer.
Ik I’m late lol but think of you mom to dad or any family member dying and think about life would be without them or think of a sad song that’s what I do :)
Toca Hazel that’s not a good method:(, it’s not reliable, it can distract you, or worse, it could work, resulting in you being very very vulnerable, making you prone to loose control of your emotions, which will result in bad acting.
@son oml.. i literally did not blink for 6mins for one single tear and then there's a person like you 😂😂😂 maybe it's bc i'm a gamer. Proven fact that gamer blink less. Therefore i think my eyes are used to not blinking for quite a while lmao
It's the most obvious things to think of that one would expect one to cry over. If someone doesn't cry over a loved member dying, they need to see a counsellor.
"How to cry to be a good actor" do you mean "How to cry in front of the cashier at walmart asking me why I'm buying snacks in my sweatpants for the 4th day in a row so they think I broke up or smth because I can't tell them I'm binge watching friends for the 23th time"
Some of the simplest and best advice I got on this was "dont try to act sad, look like you're trying NOT to cry". Even though your goal is to cry on camera, it's much more convincing and vulnerable if you look like you're trying to hide that sadness.
@Bri Dance I cried when Prim died. I actually scribbled out the part where it said she died, and wrote ‘and we all ran away from the bombs and went home and we were all happy’ in one of my copies of Mockingjay.
The most important thing about acting is evoking emotion in the audience. If an actor can do that he is oretty damn good. His expression combined with his bodylanguage and the way he says his lines
I almost made myself cry just by feeling like I was gonna cry and just acting an whole random person from any random sad scene After that I smirked and was like “Ooo I should be an actor” but it’s not as easy as that tho :p
thank you! i'll nail my audition with this! edit: ummm so they told me that it was apparently gross and i needed my eye for the part as it would "scare children." oh, and they called my parents. i am now on my way to a mental hospital. i'm thinking of poking out my other eye so it can match. though, for some reason, i cannot see with the eye that's been poked out. probably a glitch, right? anyways, how's your day going?
I can cry on cue, I think about every negative thing I’ve gone through and I just get really emotional. But it’s not just tears it’s the emotions it’s needs to be natural
I’ll explain myself a little more. Actors are story tellers, what (most) actors do while, for example, crying on a scene, is that they tell the story as it had already happened, they are kinda looking back to the thing that’s making them sad, that’s the difference between acting and real life. If you have a scene in which the character is loosing his son, the actor won’t be reacting as an actual person loosing his son, a person who is loosing their son (most of the time) is desperate, they won’t be able to articulate words, they won’t be able to communicate, so if an actor does that onscreen or onstage it will result in a messy message and in a confused audience, it just doesn’t work. When you’re acting, you are thinking of telling the story as it had already happened, that’s like your mental state, like your mood, that’s what needs to be going in your head,; when you normally tell a sad thing that happened to you a while ago, you are not having the same reaction you had when that sad thing took place, you are now in control of your emotions and you can cry, but being able to send the message you want to send, that’s what you’re looking for while acting. Take the same example, same actor, same scene, same dialog, the actor just switches his way to process the scene, this time he’s thinking about telling that scene as if it was something that already happened; the actor will be (most likely) crying, but always in control of his emotions, that way the message he’s sending is clear, not confusing and also moving, so now the audience is crying with him too. So, just to summarize: Actor who looses control of their emotions -> results in confused audience. Actor who is in control of their emotions -> results in moved and touched audience. So if you think about it, it actually seems more natural to just act the crying instead of making yourself actually cry out of sadness, thing which, btw, I don’t think is natural at all, since you are making yourself sad to cry, you’re forcing that emotion though sad thoughts. Also, not bringing up real emotions is just the professional thing to do, acting is a job, weather is a small or a big part, and you don’t bring your emotions to your job. And last thing! Keeping personal emotions separate from your acting has a huge bonus; you keep your mental health♥️✨.
When acting live or rehersing scenes, make sure to always re-read the script over and over, channelling the character you play and have a good cry. Always tring to feel their emotions throughout your performance is a definite yes! It's like faking a panic attack. If you re-read or rehearse every step of your characters nerves you can get in touch with that feeling and connect with the character so much- that it's almost easy to shake your hands, breathe heavily and purposefully distant yourself from people in a scene. If you can do all of that, you will make it. I promise. Practise becoming one with your role. Be that person. Use every aspect of their life possible and use that key, treasurable knowledge to open the door. xx
Crying is easy. Step 1: Yawn on command try yawning a couple of times tears will fall down. I usually think of Endgame or the last episode of Gravity Falls to help me cry, but I think this is more helpful for keeping up with the role and also keeping me from falling into depression:’)
With the organic ways, you can also yawn behind your hand (yawns are easy to do on cue) without opening your mouth. Your eyes will naturally water and the way your face contorts can look like grief/pain/etc.
When I was in acting class, there’s a practice which is to imagine that you are going to die now, and think about the last words to the one you love. The practice helps me to cry immediately.🤔

Why am I watching this video, I'm not an actor or drama student, I just wanted to learn how to so I could show me friends when we get out of quarantine 😂😂😂
every method i have tried hasnt worked becasue i can't do it, but this one is so easy thank you!
“Don’t blink”
Me who can stare without blinking for more than two minutes: *damn.*
Him: don't blink
Me: easy
-and then... instantly regretting what I said because I can't hold my eyes open for long enough to make my eyes water
“Say someone’s...... friend is dying or whatever” Me: *Woah that got deep quick*
Usually I think of something sad that happened to me in my childhood and start crying. That’s what I do in plays......
I usually think of Endgame or the last episode of Gravity Falls to help me cry, but I think this is more helpful for keeping up with the role and also keeping me from falling into depression:’)
Adeepseafish 123 why would you bring up the last episode of gravity falls
Holding my breath worked rlly good for me. I was crying and my nose even got runny
itz Kyara good job
With the organic ways, you can also yawn behind your hand (yawns are easy to do on cue) without opening your mouth. Your eyes will naturally water and the way your face contorts can look like grief/pain/etc.
The not blinking trick is the best thing ever, thank you so much!
4:47 “Everything is working in order to make you cry” yes it is
lmao true tho
Lol so true ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

Not blinking is probably how most actors cry on cue, it's the easiest way from my experience.
I wanna cry just like timothée chalamet did at the end of call me by your name
Thank you! For an on-stage show I’m in, I have to start crying in the middle of someone else’s song. Super helpful for that.
I mixed both of the organic methods while thinking of something that made me sad, and recited random lines and soon enough; tears came down my face
I dont do any of these, i just make my face look sad and POOF i cry, i really dont know how exactly im doing it but it works so😅
A good way to project as if your crying is to yawn with your mouth closed because it makes your eyes water.
Just watch the ending of cmbyn and you’re set! Works for me 🤷♀️
True dat
I cant fulley cry a tear but i can make my eyes ball and my face turn red and thank u 4 this lesson!
When I was in acting class, there’s a practice which is to imagine that you are going to die now, and think about the last words to the one you love. The practice helps me to cry immediately.🤔
Dudeeeeeee this is actually so good the heck you're good at acting
If I don't blink I just don't blink and I don't cry I can don't blink five minutes and don't cry what's wrong with me?!😂😂
That's effective. thanks bro
Glad to help
No blinking....that completely works for me! Thank you!
Honestly the actors academy is the best channel for Acting

for me I make myself cry by yawning internally it also gives me a lip quiver effect as well but for doing a dialogue scene that's a different story😅
When your mom tells you she’s not mad, she’s just disappointed
Hits every time...
i wanna learn to cry on cue to make my toxic “friend” who i physically can’t let go without me being safe feel bad
While watching the video I tried the process and it literally worked.👍 👏
This is very helpful. I stared into my mirror without blinking and tears started forming on my eyelids😢⭐️😢⭐️❤️ Thanks👍🏾
Bro when I will become a Actor in future I will always name you that you were my teacher ❤❤👊
