I’m 79 yr old woman. After stage management, AD and tech in regional theater many years ago in another state, did my first audition a few days ago. Landed the lead!! Will be following you every step of the way. Really appreciate your work.
Thank you so much!! you've really helped me out memorizing a 3 paged script in less than an hour, something I was spending weeks on. I also added one last tip after highlighting, which is to SIT DOWN QUIETLY IN SILENCE AND START SAYING YOUR LINES FROM WHAT EVER PART YOU REMEMBER, UP TO THE END OF THE SCRIPT, SAYING ONLY YOUR LINES. AND WHEN YOU GET TO THE END OF THE SCRIPT, WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE SCRIPT SAY YOUR LINES AGAIN FROM A NEW STARTING POINT ABOVE YOUR PERVIOUS STARTING POINT. (MEANING IF YOU REMEMBERED YOUR LINE FORM THE LAST PAGE SAY THE LINE FROM THE LAST PAGE TO THE END, NEXT IF YOUR REMEMBERED YOUR LINES FROM THE SECOND PAGE ON YOUR SECOND ATTEMPT, SAY THE LINES FROM THE LAST LINE IN PAGE ONE OR THE FIRST LINE IN PAGE 2 TO THE END OF THE SCRIPT, AND TO FINISH IT UP ON THE LAST ATTEMPT START YOUR LINE FROM THE FRIST LINE TO THE END LINE) DO IT DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH YOU BREAK THE SCRIPT.
I have an acting class and I got one of the leads bc someone dropped. This is my first time getting a lead since I was like 7 (I always got ensemble after I moved age groups 6 years ago) so I haven’t had to memorize lines for a long, LONG time. We’re performing in a couple weeks, so thank you so much!
I been out of college since 2009, and now getting into memorizing lines again. I want to say very impressed by your video and how to. Also want to point out that any one who record live video on you tube channel and helps others is my Hero! Thank you!
Imma use this. Got 2 scripts to learn for my drama class in school, both of which I've got a ton of lines. Really need an actual learning technique. Great video.
im literally stressing so hard im lucky i got time cause of this virus delaying everything but i got so many lines to remember for my first movie and im dying inside lol
Don’t mind the comment ^^ just a lil information note Don’t think about it to hard. Like dancing, you‘ll get stuck when you think about the next step you‘re going to take 1) read everything 2) read only lines 3) read only your lines 4) summarize 5) highlight each phrase (Read them out loud and then highlight!)
I have a 56 page play and I am the main character, I think I have around 550 lines, how do you reckon I can learn them? Because I need to learn them in 2 weeks, so I’m really not sure how I can learn all these lines.
Boneless Salad actually unfortunately the play was postponed heaps because of people getting sick and we had to get new props, the date it was set to was March and then it got called off complete because of corona virus:(
Visualizing the words along with the scene right before bed helps me memorize lines faster because I’ll then dream of everything in the scene and if I keep doing that along with reviewing the lines while exercising I know the words thoroughly.
Great video! This helps a lot, but could you do a video on when and how to incorporate building character/character development while you learn your lines, or should you do that only after you’ve learned your lines?
Thank you for this I’m playing lumière’s understudy (beauty and the beast) in my school play and I’ve had some trouble in memorization and this really helped.

Hey you are awesome man, i can understand english and i know to speak little bit. But my ambition is wanted to be an hollywood actor. Help me! Brother. I'm an actor in youtube channel, that's now what i do. Can you help me through english?
I'm not sure what you mean by #5, highlight only the phrases in your lines. You say to just highlight the phrases and not all your lines - what do you mean by the phrases? I thought a phrase was an expression, or a saying! Ha! Oops. Please help!
I think he's saying only highlight a contained sentence fragment or idea. He's saying if you can break the sentence up into two mini sentences that's two phrases.
Well if you’re practicing your lines, you have a very good general idea on when it’s your turn to speak, but also if you’re listening. We have to listen to the other actor speaking, if we are not listening, than it’s very easy for one not to know when to come in. If your scene partner asks “How are you?” It’s safe to say that it’s your turn to speak afterwards, depending on the given situation of the moment. Again in the process of your memorization you will easily know when it is your turn to speak without needing to memorize ever word of the other character.
Don’t worry too much on it. It’s less of a problem than you think. You can always memorize the last 2 words said by your scene partner before you speak, as a signal for yourself, but again it’s really not something you will need to worry about that much.

The two share commonalities and differences that make them equally difficult and set their own challenges for an actor to overcome.
