Bammers, there will be an exclusive Livestream Mailbag show on our Facebook members group Saturday 18th of January 2020 3pm UTC time. A chance to ask your Mangaka questions and connect with other artists.
Fairy Tail sucks, so if you are getting inspired by something like that, there's a high chance you're not going to end up making it good. Also we wanna do a lot of things after getting motivated by people we like around us - especially celebrities, I am sure you must also want to sing after listening to your favourite singers but it doesn't really work that way. There is a huge difference between passion and hobby, my friend. If creating stories and/or art really is passion for you and you're 100% sure about it, then you have to start getting into the very depths of what makes a story and/or art good and also the depth of WHY you want to become an artist - is it for money and fame or is it because it's something you love doing irrespective of the outcome? If the latter is true then there's a high chance that you're gonna be really successful.
@@ramitodedara3420 just because u dont like fairy tale it doesnt mean that everyone hates it, the hard one is to find all the people that loves your book,Fairy tale is popular even if it sucks for a lot of people. When you see your first anime series, example pokemon and then you start watching a second anime series and you see a lot of similar things from your first anime you gonna hate it because you think that this man have copied the other man. This kind of fails try not to do when you make your manga.but if you sell to a kid a manga and he dont know what anime or manga is, it doesnt matter if the book have similar story from other anime, because the kid have never seen any manga or anime. He just gonna love his first manga,if it is good as story but not unique with the elements that have.
It feels like I really want to become a mangaka, but I am extremely worried to try, because I love the art style of anime and manga characters, I love drawing and writing, but I heard that some manga artists can stick to only one for years. I would also be worried about my art, since getting the body proportions correct all the time is really difficult for me, even though I try m best to practice. I'm just worried that my work won't be good enough,or that over time, I will get bored of my story, and just want to move onto something different. :(
I used to be a game developer so I can offer some advice on "sticking to a project". I made games for 9 years and most of the games I started, I never finished. To be honest, I'm not sure why I finished the 3 or 4 games that I managed to finish. But if I was forced to give some reasons, I'd say it was because I forced myself to continue working on it even when I didn't feel like it ( part of succeeding at anything in life is to overcome laziness and push yourself to keep working even when you just want to relax and play ) and those particular games weren't so massive that I couldn't complete them ( as the guy in the video explains, you need to realize and accept your strengths and weaknesses. if you ignore your pros and cons you will overwhelm yourself and lose interest ). So my advice would be to push yourself and work on whatever you're best at constantly even when you don't feel like it, and to not be too ambitious and try to go after some massive manga project as your first attempt. Start small, don't try to make the next Naruto on your first try, you have to start from the bottom and work your way up. As the man in the video said, just try to make a "one shot" - a 60 page summarized version of your manga. 60 pages shouldn't be too hard for you. So aim for the 60-page manga, and if after that you know 100% you want to go all the way with it, then go for it.
Very late reply, Sorry, But The thing about one story is that you can make a story exciting, A plot twist, add new characters, improvement of characters, development of stories, cliff hangers. All of that, Its your book and you can do anything with it thats what i love about one story it can make many things.
Most successful people have one thing in common, they just did it. Stop over thinking. Stop worrying. Just do it, if it doesn't turn out well then that's ok. If it turns out amazing then it's something to be happy about, either way no harm is done.
I'm starting to study the basic's and whipping out my old how to draw manga books, I just graduated from high school this summer and so I am trying to think things out more thoroughly and not jump into art schools or college, because one, I'm not working and have no car or to get a job and consistency go to college or work and I know about online college but I do not have any computers, ill be searching around for student computers that are given out for free or maybe there is a free program for that. luckily I help around my mom's house and she doesn't mind me planning out and exploring what exactly it is that I want to study and learn about or go into school for. I have been reading books on craft and trying to get back into drawing like i used to as a teen, it's fun and interesting. I am content and happy with not rushing into college and thinking things through more intently. Siobhan Moreau I know that you said you're just drawing manga for fun, but let me point out that things like inking, if you were a professional manga artist, would be done by assistants. Almost every mangaka with an ongoing manga series (if not EVERY one) has at least one assistant. They do things like ink the pages and do the screentones and stuff. If you teach a friend or family-member how to do basic inking and such, they may be able to help you out.

Teresa Collins You are very welcome :D I used to compare myself to other artist (and still do) but it helps to remember that unique is uncompareable ;-) You may hug me ^^ *Take hug*
The video put a lot in perspective for me and asks the right question but the real motivation should be from the author(s) who want to do the best work! It got me thinking straight too (how to compare myself to other artist).
I am currently learning Japanese so I can use my strength of picking up languages and also my ability to tell hall of fame quality stories and ability to draw a pretty good amount of views from the faces. I suck at stuff like the body or costume designs
How to BAM Question:if I want to make a continuation of an anime/manga,what do I need to do before starting it? Ex:do I need to ask permission from the original anime/manga company?
My drawings are far from professional but I do practice. I keep wondering whether it is better to create paper art or draw it using manga softwares because I see many new mangas are using that and seems to save lot of time. The problem is I suck at making art on computers and I'd rather go old school. If anyone has a suggestion to make it will be much appreciated.
Do what I like to do. I find the best way for me is to sketch and ink most of my work on paper. I then scan it on the computer and fix minor details and fill in major black areas etc. It not only saves time but money.
I agree with TheBananaforce It saves a lot of time and money. Computer art is often easier if you have some type of graphic tablet, enabling you to draw just as you would with a pencil and paper. The cost of a tablet varies but it's worth it. A lot of good Art programs cost money but are definitely worth it just like a graphic tablet is. I stopped drawing it on paper and scanning it because the benefits of computer programs are soooo *gulp* BIG. If this helped then yay :D If this didn't then I'm a total baka :L
Thanks guys! For now I think I'll stick to manually drawing and scanning it like the banana force suggests. I don't think I'll be getting a tablet for anytime now.... :D
I want to become a manga artist for some time now. I already got a quarter of my story planned out. What inspired me to do this is Berserk with its great artwork and good storytelling. I want to get to that level one day. Right now, I am working on a 50-page prototype of my story. How do I publish it when I am done with the story? Thank you.
I do draw well. I am still practicing a few things like trees or hand scaling. The purpose of the prototype is that I need to test my own skills for drawing a manga. The story in the prototype is not canon to the real story.
I sadly don't accept critiques for my work these days, cuz people online don't know how to make actual good critiques, (despite being taught English in school). Instead they often use critiques to insult and hate on people for no reason, instead of actually helping. So these days, I tend to find pros like you and keep you around to ask for your particular opinion, cuz you have experience and know what you're talking about.
I kinda laughed when he said "relate to" bc I'm pretty sure almost nobody can relate to attack on titan XD But this actually really helped!! thanks. :3
I need to form an elite team of skilled people to make a manga like Erin Hunter. Everyone will cover each others weaknesses to form a perfect manga with no sacrifices in quality.
I realy want to become manga artist but wenever i see ather peapol at my age draw 5 times beter than me i get realy engry .....and yeah and after that i think.DUDE YOUR ONLY DRAWING FOR 1YEAR AND THEY ARE DRAWING FOR MORE THAN 5 and i calm down and try my best :-)
Am I in over my head being and all around Mangaka. I knew it felt like a lot of work. I never knew I was doing 6 jobs. I need to update my resume lolz.
I just recently published a 40 page graphic novel through Create Space on Amazon. It's not a manga it was a...test subject, that got a crazy negative review. I now know the caliber of skill I need to make a slammin good manga that people will fall in love with and I gotta tell ya I'm excited and I came back to your vids for an out-of-the-gate boost of inspiration.
This video is great. Never before have I seen anyone discuss the REAL issues when it comes to becoming a mangaka. We can keep talking about tools and techniques 'til the next ice age, but the most important part is to know who you are and realistically assess what exactly you want, or need to be, as well as how you're going to do it. Subscribed, and I can't wait to watch more of your videos.
Thank you so much for this video. Having a hard time just actually starting and this video definitely inspired me. I'm actually going to do that homework
Yea, you could get an account in Deviantart or something. Millions of people from all around the world post pictures of their artwork, then other Millions of people around the world see it and view it. If they like it, they will subscribe to u or watch you, depends on the site. Then they will get to see all the work u post. If no one where you live likes manga, then try uploading it somewhere online :)
So far, I have written as much as I can for the Skeleton of it, but my goodness... some foght scenes took me whole notebooks to write down. LETS DO THIS
guys im making a manga with my 2 cousins problem is i dont know how to make get noticed. I need someones help plz if you guys wanna hear first part of ep 1 reply to thi comment please
+ALAN t_t that's what I'm working on. even in NA u can become an anime. and by that I mean American anime. there's always networks like cartoon network. comedy central looking all over the internet for big new things to publish. u just have to make it big. u can always send your stuff to then but best way to prove youre good is big fan base. so make a site n put a chapter or 2 on different sites like snackjeeves.
I'm also sitting with that. The way I would build a fan base is to make 2-5 chapters and record it on your phone or whatever and post it on RUclips. Also, you can use www.wix.com to create your own website. I would name the website the name of your manga. When you do create the website, make sure to mention it on your RUclips channel. Also, spread the word of your manga on popular social media sites like Twitter, Instagram etc. I hope I helped 😊
He talks about how if you are good at only art and not writing then you may not want to do this... Or even vice versa... Why not do what I am doing, and make a two person team with someone who can do what you can't? I can draw pretty well and i am writing the story and dialogue for my manga, but I cannot do both on my own (especially with school and work) So I found someone who likes to draw, but doesn't want to come up with the story and dialogue on their own. Working out really well!
How to BAM! You are my inspiration! You make started creating drawing videos now. I just upload my first ever how to video today. I drew the profile picture too. =)
Thanks man, you helped me out alot I was on the verge of going crazy because I thought I wasn't meant for this but you changed that. Really thanks again. *truely appreciative.
I got talent in writing and directing but damn is drawing something difficult to wrap my head around at times. I have the mind for it all, but I just.. Can't draw whats there. RIP
My main goal is to make a manga that can make every feel weird, laugh happy and sad in one story, reaction videos entertain me. As the video said, i am very ready for the career except for one thing, i dont hve the essential tools needed to get things done, i only got a ballpen, pencil, eraser and the good ol' printer papers.
I'm not really sure. I hope to push it within the next couple of weeks. But stay tuned for other stuff. Their will be an interview with another mangaka pretty soon.
thanks for the video it helps me out I need to work on the story plot my drawing skills is a working progress getting there. this motivates me to pursue this goal even further
Just can't grasp the concept of creating a beginning in which I can introduce my story. Which leads me to eventually trashing what i've come up with and trying to create another story to try to have another beginning. But I know you must be busy and everyone has there own lives in the background which can take away from stuff as well. But if you read this thank you for taking the time to do so and keep up the great work! :D
Great video. I found this to be informative and to make me think about my personal goals as someone who also wants to create and publish manga one day too. There is a something that concerned me for a while: if I really wanted to do this as an actual career, then that would mean being constantly rejected and criticized by others. It's obviously not easy to get a gig for making a debut and getting super successful with a series, especially since a lot of us live in societies where the styles typically seen in manga are looked down upon, the bias some fans have about OEL manga to be "fake" manga, and a comic book industry that prefers creators to draw and write about licensed superheroes that were created by those from more or less than a half century ago. Wouldn't that mean that I should probably find another career that would hopefully meet my creative interests (even though it's not related to manga or anything else to Japanese pop culture) while I pursue my dream of publishing my own manga? Would I still be committed to my dream even though I'm doing something else? I would have to get my money somewhere so I can survive, have a roof over my head and to buy supplies to draw manga after all. Sorry this is long but I hope you're able to answer this. Even if you don't, thanks for the video and I hope you post more up in the future. Good luck with your series!
You make a good point, What I would do is just make manga in your spare time while you worked a main job for income, then hopefully once your series gets big enough you can start selling t shirts buttons stickers etc. for extra money. Just my thoughts.
+TwilightLaceDream Work on your manga in your spare time. If you really love doing it then it wont be a waste. In this digital age you can publish yourself and slowly build your fan base.

If I were you I would do paper so I can choose what u wana use and have more controll
That awkward feeling when you're blessed enough to (at least in my eyes) be a decent writer and a decent artist...

this video helped me alot too, i watch alot of these videos because im making my own manga on my channel.
you wanna give it a watch?
I want to become a manga artist for some time now. I already got a quarter of my story planned out. What inspired me to do this is Berserk with its great artwork and good storytelling. I want to get to that level one day. Right now, I am working on a 50-page prototype of my story. How do I publish it when I am done with the story? Thank you.
TPS Troy do you draw well ???
I do draw well. I am still practicing a few things like trees or hand scaling. The purpose of the prototype is that I need to test my own skills for drawing a manga. The story in the prototype is not canon to the real story.
TPS Troy ohh cool I want to do my own manga too can you show me some of your drawings?? I could learn some things
I have a discord group for aspiring Mangaka we can help you my discord is Kh3born number 9727
Anisa Mazaki si you already have your own manga???
I feel blessed for being able to draw and write😥
Terry Dean well, I can run fast but I'm not good at sports, the only sport I'm average on is basketball

I kinda laughed when he said "relate to" bc I'm pretty sure almost nobody can relate to attack on titan XD But this actually really helped!! thanks. :3
You also need a 3DMG :3
The characters are relatable.
I need to form an elite team of skilled people to make a manga like Erin Hunter. Everyone will cover each others weaknesses to form a perfect manga with no sacrifices in quality.

Still amongst the living! :-) ruclips.net/video/hQuMRYbXiR0/видео.html
thanks bro you're the best!
U sure
This is soooo much motivation for my channel, the anime references are funny as hell though. Loved watching this!
04:17 this was the baddest Fusion i've ever seen in my Life.
I really like the Patrick Warburton impressions in this video, and the advice and information you give here makes the video even better!
I want to be manga artist. My drawing are so bad.But my friends told me to i can learn to draw because i have only 13 years

Robot Princess hello
dud iam from egypt and noone in egypt like manga or anime cuse that i dot think that they gonna love my work :(
Yea, you could get an account in Deviantart or something. Millions of people from all around the world post pictures of their artwork, then other Millions of people around the world see it and view it. If they like it, they will subscribe to u or watch you, depends on the site. Then they will get to see all the work u post. If no one where you live likes manga, then try uploading it somewhere online :)
Ahmad Azab dont worry anime lovers
Thank u guys 😁😁😁 i am allready working on it 😊😊😊
Too much of an awesome video!!! Mega helpful! Will definitely check out Ipodoboy and instant subscriber!!!!
i dont know japanese, can i still get published?
if you have a killer story and art you might be able to send something in english or so and they will translate it. It's pretty unlikely though...
Sure.
Yes. You don't have to learn Japanese or go to Japan. You can do it where you live right now.
So far, I have written as much as I can for the Skeleton of it, but my goodness... some foght scenes took me whole notebooks to write down. LETS DO THIS
I'm so lucky to have drawing and writing abilities.
Memify Hello

did you publish yet?
Advent Filming were still working on it but i just need tips to get it noticed. And maybe make it into a anime one day
+ALAN t_t that's what I'm working on. even in NA u can become an anime. and by that I mean American anime. there's always networks like cartoon network. comedy central looking all over the internet for big new things to publish. u just have to make it big. u can always send your stuff to then but best way to prove youre good is big fan base. so make a site n put a chapter or 2 on different sites like snackjeeves.
Advent Filming aight thxwhat ill really like is toonami this helped me alot thx
Working out really well!
funny, i basically live in a cave in an arabic country
whooo what an inspiration.. now im more motivated to continue my manga.. (having a hard time continuing it because of many works at school)
This helped me a lot!! Thank you
this is just what i need for becoming a mangaka!!! thanks so much

A really good sum up of what manga is and what it need to be a mangaka. :)
THANK YOU!..CAN WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE
My main goal is to make a manga that can make every feel weird, laugh happy and sad in one story, reaction videos entertain me.
As the video said, i am very ready for the career except for one thing, i dont hve the essential tools needed to get things done, i only got a ballpen, pencil, eraser and the good ol' printer papers.
I'm not really sure. I hope to push it within the next couple of weeks. But stay tuned for other stuff. Their will be an interview with another mangaka pretty soon.
That was great .
*In wich chapter does it uh..... destroy itself!!*

Micah Buzan cool are you planning to go to japan ???
As a non mangaka try to make each chapter interesting without changing your story
I love your video! It's really creative and informational, you just earned a subscriber! :D
Thanks.... This tutorial helps me A LOT!!!!
Thanks! Advice really did help!
i might suck at drawing but i sure know how to get people attention if i ever wanted to get noticed when i start trying to publish my manga
2:12 it's the shadow of saiko from an anime bakuman.
You're genius!Thank you for the info!
I've been wanting to make one for years and just got the courage lately. I do my own reading and artwork.
Dude you're so cool and your video really helped us . Please make more awesome video !!
