    Hi friends! I MESSED UP!!! *the BAR NONE CONDITIONER DOES NOT CONTAIN PALM OIL!!!*
    I originally thought that their "cetyl alcohol" was palm derived but it's not! I stand corrected! I dunno what happened, I literally could have sworn it did but I was wrong! I must have had a brain fart. I had looked into it a few months ago, and for whatever reason I could have sworn I remembered it being derived from it but apparently it's not. I'll definitely clear the air about this in a vid soon! So so sooooo sorry for the confusion! I hope most people who were curious about that see this comment! 😭

      Hi! I just saw your video, and I'd like to recommend to apply the shampoo only on your scalp and root area, maybe that's something that's drying so much your hair (beautiful hair by the way) when you rinse the shampoo it slides through all the hair and cleans it without drying it out so much. Also, the CGM is very restrictive but you could look it up and learn about the basics that cover hydration, how to use shampoo and conditioner to really work and all that stuff. Your hair is so beautiful I think if you learn about that a little bit it'll be so much perfect than it already is. Love.

    I've recently started to learn more about low waste and zero waste living, and I realized as a medical student how much waste (single purpose materials) is generated in the healthcare setting, at the same time I feel this is necessary waste (if such a thing exists) to ensure a sterile environment to treat patients. I think the main reason I started looking into living a low waste lifestyle is because of the guilt I feel for having to someday work in a extreme waste-generating career. Where do you stand on this?

    • @kaitlynnewman9286
      @kaitlynnewman9286 4 года назад +13

      Same boat here! 4th year med student getting into low waste living (and finally getting some time to learn more about it due to quarantine)... I feel you on the health care costs/waste though. It is sad, but unfortunately, it seems for the best for some patients (especially during this time). Glad to hear someone else in the same boat! (:

    • @kirstytinsley6696
      @kirstytinsley6696 4 года назад +9

      Me too!! I'm a final year biomed student and work in labs a lot growing cells etc. Therefore for experiments to be accurate etc everything needs to be really sterile therefore changing pipette tips a million times, single use gloves and bottles/tubes/dishes for everything and it makes me so sad sometimes! But the way I look at it is that if the rest of my lifestyle is low waste I can kind of balance out the waste I make in my job, which is also for a good cause and like you say necessary, and I can also help other people that I work around change their habits in other ways around the lab ya know :)

    • @drowsiella
      @drowsiella 4 года назад +5

      Kaitlyn Wright I currently know nothing about biology or anything medical but I have to ask: if hospitals/labs were to begin using products that biodegrade quickly would that reduce the effectiveness of said products?

    • @kaitlynnewman9286
      @kaitlynnewman9286 4 года назад +4

      @@drowsiella I wish I could give an exact answer, and I am hopeful one day that biomedical sciences can come up with materials that are equally as effective and clean yet are better for the environment. For a while, I do think many places will stick with what they're used to because it is familiar, researched, and (for many cases) CHEAP. We can be hopeful for a better future... For now, I am not even allowed to wear a fabric mask around patients. I have to use a disposable kind due to COVID, but these are different times that could possibly affect our new "normal".

    My husband (he frequently has long hair) actually "salvages" hair ties from the streets. Like, he walks to work and would find random hair ties on the ground and pick it up. I know it's maybe gross to some people (I always facepalms when he does it), but they're completely fine after we wash them. He had found maybe four of them during a few months, it's crazy.
    Regarding curly hair method: You're actually doing all the things, Sedona! Scrunching your curls, using oils and flaxseed as styling gel, and even the drying with t-shirt. With curly hair, you're not supposed to use ordinary towels because they're too rough, they definitely recommend using t-shirts of microfiber towel. Not everybody does plopping (I only do it if my head is still wet before bed), but curlies definitely scrunch their hair with t-shirts/microfiber towel before air dry.

    • @marieamelieforrer472

      I do it too! just toss them in the dirty laundry and wash them with the rest, it is a great alternative if you don't want to buy the ethical brands because they are a bit of an investment

    Hey, fellow curly/wavy girl here! just found your channel and love it!! Just a tip in case anyone doesn’t know, the wetter your hair is when you put gel in, the less frizz you’ll get! I have very frizzy hair and live in fl (great combo lol), so what I usually do is put in gel when my hair is soaking wet, scrunch out the excess water with a tshirt, let it air dry a bit, then I add a little bit more gel with wet hands and let it air dry all the way. You can also diffuse if air drying doesn’t work for you! Also people with coarser or dryer hair could use a leave in conditioner before gel, but I have fine hair and it just weighs it down and gets greasy so I don’t. Just some tips, take ‘em or leave ‘em haha 😊

    Loved the video! I’m wondering how often do you wash your hair? And how do you style your hair on a day you’re not washing it? I have very similar hair as you and I find myself always having to wear it up in a bun or something because brushing it only makes things worse and my hair gets quite knotted during the day and while sleeping. So any tips on keeping your hair that wavy would be great ☺️

    • @fcplop98

      Try braiding it throughout the day or while sleeping and sleep in a bonnet. I make two loose braids and braid close to my face because I find best results with that and I use silk or satin scrunchies. This has made the biggest difference in my hair routine.

    Random hack with hair ties and bobby pins, I used to buy new ones and just unload them into my holder and then use them up. I felt like I knew I had more so I would leave them all about and then lose them. This last time I put about 1/3 of both packs into my holder and then put the rest away where I couldn’t see them. When my holder gets low I automatically now search around for my already used ones and I take better care of putting them away. I almost forgot about the others when we moved last year but alas! I found them! I’ve had the same 1 pack of bobby pins and pony tails for about 5 years 😏 and scrunchies - add them to your mesh bag that you wash reusable cotton rounds with and you can wash them (don’t dry them) and they get so soft and puffy and come back to life if they’re looking a bit flat or sad! 😊

Already ordered the products I need, took my notes, and will be following your method to see how it works for me :)

    To non-beauty loving people this will sound weird but I’d be interested To hear about your experience with seborrheic dermatitis. I’ve had what I can only assume to be dandruff for my entire life, even when I was a baby. I’ve gone to the doctors in many different hairdressers to get everyone’s opinion on it and nothing that I’ve tried has helped, even specialty shampoos, products, and hair care processes. I’d be interested to know how you take care of your scalp and how you got rid of the seborrheic dermatitis

      hey girl! this may not be a popular reply but my fiancé has that variety of dermatitis and he has had great success with the "Jason and the Argon Oil" shampoo bar from Lush. Like I kid you not - we've tried every single product/DIY on his scalp and this bar cleared it in 2-3 washes :) his hair has never been healthier! it actually lasts quite a while as well.

      maybe you can try not to wash your hair as often? I also suffered from tons of dandruff, so I stopped washing my hair as often because if your scalp is too dired out, it can panic and produce extra oil which promotes dandruff. Now I wash my hair once a week and I start getting dandruff and greasy hair 4-5 days after washing. hope this helps :)

    • @LucieAnne
      @LucieAnne 4 года назад +1

      This is not environmentally friendly/sustainable but it's what worked for me: FYI I wash my hair once a week. Every time I washed I used a coal tar shampoo, let it sit for 15 minutes, rinsed it out, then use head and shoulders and let that sit for 5 or so minutes before washing it out. After the shower I used a salcylic acid treatment after washing, then again about halfway through the week. I did this for about a month and my scalp is SO much less itchy. Now I maintain it by using the coal tar shampoo once a month and head and shoulders the rest of the time.

    • @justcarineinparis
      @justcarineinparis Год назад

      @bethanygates6812 what worked for me was shampoos without sulfates and absolutely no oil or oily products on my scalp. Flax seed gel is perfect. I recently started using a paste made of chickpea flour (found the recipe on @FaitylandCottage channel) as a no-poo and it is just mind blowing, the results are better than shampoo bars. I highly recommend you try this method.

Gets oily fast, looks like tumble weed the next day, constantly gets everywhere, limp, and let’s not forget about lice. It’s too much work just to get it to have volume. I can’t imagine constantly brushing that crap everyday as soon as the wind blows

    Great videos 💛 you have a great channel with great tips!
    I am a diy cosmetic freak myself and appreciatte how you added the grapefruit seed extract to extend the shelf/fridge life of the gel☝ But vitamine E will not do the trick... To start, GFextract is water soluble and vitamin E is oil soluble. You can absolutely add vitamine E for its goodness (mix really well before using each time). But stick with the 1st option for preservation 👍 those cannot replace each other at all! They have different purposes on a formulation. Vitamine E is great to avoid rancidity in oil products, but has no effect against fungus.
    It's great to see you sharing such great tips, keep on it 🌻

    Not sure if it's listed below, but you can use ripped tights to make DIY hair bands! Just cut horizontal strips out of the tights, thickness depending on how thick or strong you want the hair band to be, and that's it really.

      Colds and flu are caused by viruses, not cold or inclement weather. In order to get an infection you need to be exposed to an infectious agent first. So while going out into the winter cold with wet hair may make you uncomfortable, it won't make you come down with a cold.

    Hi! I also use flaxseed gel, but I don't keep it in the fridge. I use a preservative called Geogard. The extract that you used doesn't preserve the gel. Vitamin E can be used to prevent oils from becoming rancid, but is not a preservative for products that contain water. I love your videos! Hugs from Portugal!! :)

    Your hair looks curly not wavy. I’d definitely try some curly methods. A few deep conditioning treatments, scrunching with lots of water to get more clump for ringlets. Silk bonnet at night for moisture. My hair is fine and similar to yours as well and I only realized it was curly recently!
    Honestly hair can change so much depending on the care and methods. If I am very strict with a curly hair routine it gets tighter and tighter curls. Mostly it’s too much work for me to bother completely styled curly. Goodluck!

    I reached out to Bar None/Brite via email about palm oil after watching this video (because I’m so in love with their conditioner bar that I don’t want to have to give it up), and they got back to me very soon actually and said that their products are all *palm oil free!* I saw vegetable glycerin on the ingredient list, which I thought would be palm oil, but that can also be made from coconut or soybean oil. They said they use coconut oil! I’m glad I can keep purchasing that bar after I run out of the one I’m using. Just wanted to spread this message ♡

    Hi!! I hope this is useful for you, but to tame your frizz you should try not grabbing all your hair and massaging it with the shampoo, that dehydrates the ends and creates more breaksge :// if you want just applying and massaging the scalp with the shampoo works great 🤗 that should help a lot!! Also leaving some conditioner, like not rinsing it all, that’s gonna give more hydration so it doesn’t seek for hydration by frizzing.

    There’s an amazing zero waste bottled shampoo and conditioner off of Etsy that is biodegradable and comes in a metal bottle. It’s sold in Bellingham and they do refills if you send back your bottles. I think it’s a good alternative to shampoo bars if you have a harder time with some of them like I do and since they’re biodegradable you can reuse your grey water if that’s your thing (I do sometimes for plants).
