39:38 "You have the sweetest smile I've ever seen." Utterly casual and awesomely romantic, simultaneously. Oz is amazing.
"I feel like I talked about this! ....I must have said this out loud at some point." You totally did and it was really hard not to say anything at the time! 😂
Sarah Michelle Gellar was once a competitive figure skater finishing in third place at a New York State regional competition as well as having a black belt in taekwondo
Whuuuuttttttt!?! I love learning all this trivia. Buffy fandom is BEST fandom!!
Regarding the issue of the Slayer being paid: Typically, they don't survive long enough for that to be a concern... an 18 year old slayer would be considered old. In fact, you could say the Watchers Council does not expect a slayer to survive past their 18th birthday.
Also fun fact: Kendra’s actress has been in like every single good teen tv show (vampire diaries, pretty little liars) etc. she has not aged a day
she's actually a vampire
My favorite thing about the Cordy/Xander kissing scenes is the background music. It's so obviously taken from the Generic-Waves-Crashing-On-The-Shore-Romantic-Music file! Cracks me up every time. 😂
and they play it twice :), makes it even funnier.
@@Henrik_Holst
The creators of Buffy have the guts to be really really silly on occasion.
I've always appreciated that.
@@UTU49It'd be kind of weird if a show titled "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer" was never silly.
I laugh and shout "THE MUSIC!!!" every time!
Seth Green is so amazing as Oz. The tiniest of double-takes when he recognises Willow yet you feel his surprise, delight and nervousness to impress her all in a micro second
Your reactions to both the "Kendra the vampire slayer" line and Xander and Cordelia kissing were so funny. I rewatched those moments a few times. :)
Then there was the second Xander and Cordelia kiss that Cass could see was about to happen.
The run-up is amazing too: "Why is there tension? Why is there tension???!!" 😅
In terms of the Spike/Dru power dynamic... it's complicated. On the one hand, yes, all the ways you mentioned in which Spike runs the show. But on the other hand, whenever Dru is coherent for long enough to actually assert herself, Spike tends to defer to her. As an example, "Can I eat him now, love?" (from Lie To Me); Dru clearly calls the shots for that whole scene.
Looking forward to seeing what you think of the rest of the season!
Yes. Dru is the real leader. If you look for it, you will see Spike always look to Dur for her approval. Which goes hand in hand with her being a Dome. Something we see in this episode with her using Holy water as a stand in for Hot Wax. What Dru was doing with Angel was sex play. Which is confirmed by how Angel talks about it to Spike.
Regarding Dru's madness and physical debilitation - Dru was driven insane as a human, many years ago, when Angelus tormented her by murdering all her loved ones. Then, as a crazed human girl, Angelus sired her, turning her into a vampire. Jump to a few months before "School Hard," Spike and Dru were caught up in a mob of angry people, in Prague. They don't specify, but Dru was "hurt" by that mob, and was physically diminished. So, her physical condition is something relatively new, but her madness is something that carried over from her human life. So, Spike's quest to "cure" her is only for her recent physical weakness.
This is an interesting wrinkle in the lore, since vampires are generally able to recover from almost any physical wound that doesn't destroy them (stake through the heart, beheading, etc). So, yeah... what exactly happened to Drusilla in Prague, that didn't dust her, but made her perpetually weak afterward?
It is explained in a comic book that it was some kind of mystical torture chair with a bunch of spikes that they used on Drusilla to weaken/torture her, only after they thought they killed Spike but actually left him unconscious under a bridge after throwing him off it with a stake in his chest just missing his heart by an inch, so that’s what happened in Prague, the comic issue is called The Problem With Vampires in Buffy the vampire slayer Tales.
@@spikejr3113jr.... bloody hell. 😳😳😳
The "I didnt even notice" line still gets me.
ah sweet season 2... it's such a dopamine hit
It's SO good! I think it actually is my favourite season
From time to time, Joss Whedon would try to integrate the actors' interests into the episodes, in this case Sarah's love of figure skating.
And a certain someone playing guitar and singing
@@dayceem Also a certain someone dancing...💃
4:23 most slayers don’t live long enough to have jobs or even worry about getting jobs, heck Buffy has died already. Fun fact, spike was originally supposed to die at the end of these episodes, but by the time these episodes were filmed, fans had already fallen in love with him so they had to rewrite the ending.
A note on Slayers, like in Kendra’s case (shouldn’t be spoilery, just informative because the show doesn’t spell it out clearly):
the Watchers organization has a mystical way of detecting those who have the potential to become Slayers down the road and they try to find them as early as they can when they can. If one is found, they are assigned a Watcher and trained in case they are the next Slayer activated, because the activation is random and can happen to any possible Slayer around the world. This happened to Kendra. But this detection thing isn’t perfect and many possible Slayers slip through the cracks.
I always figured they relied on seers of some type to find potential. Which is why its so hit and miss.
Exactly. Better to have a prepared slayer called. Poor Buffy was totally blindsided.
The realization of how Kendra is a possibility is always a great reaction.
These two episodes together are a great idea.
I agree. With Cass now doing two reactions per video, it was also fortuitous that she was able to see these two together in one video.
I enjoyed your christening it as the Order of the _Teriyaki_ 😅
Slayers don't make a living wage cuz they're not expected to stay living for very long 😅
I love how as soon as Bianca Lawson appears on screen every reactor goes " hellooooo there" 😍😅
The reason Kendra parents sent her away is because even though there's only one slayer at a time there's still a thousand potential vampire slayer's all over the world which the Watches know of some of them through prophecy and bloodlines.
Given that Buffy was so, different, her becoming the Slayer must have been a surprise. Whereas Kendra paid attention to her Watcher, Buffy did not always do so.
Bloodlines?
Joss clarified in some interview that each slayer has only one chance to activate another, by dying. So, even if Buffy dies another time, that won't activate the next slayer.
Makes sense. Otherwise they'd just lock her up in a hospital and kill/revive her all the time.
Dru has always had psychic abilities, Angel drove her insane before he turned her. Her current weakness is nothing to do with her loopiness or her psychic ability.
32:31 'Your hair, is brown' Seth Green had to dye his hair for another role, rather than just ignoring it, they specifically mention it and make it a feature. He's talking about guitar chords, I don't know much about guitars, but I'm told 'Eb diminished ninth' is just a fancy way of describing a fairly basic chord.
They dropped a pipe organ on him, Vampires have great recuperative ability but even a vampire isn't going to just shrug off something like that.
Let this be a lesson not to open the door and let strangers giving away free makeup into your home. You never know if they are parts gross bug.
Oz and his description of animal cracker monkey pants is so adorable.
The other animals would be well within their rights to demand that they get pants too.
These two episodes aired a week apart, so no, it wasn't a midseason cliffhanger.
"E-flat diminished 9" or whatever it was is music geek talk describing a chord. Oz is basically saying he wants to be a musician, not a software guy.
Not sure if Xander's called her Cordy before, but I feel like Buffy has? We have to remember that Cordelia's new to the friend group so getting casual with names would be a new thing.
SMG has scoliosis so her parents wanted to encourage her in physical activities to help strengthen her spine from an young age, hence the ice skating. She also started studying martial arts when she landed the Buffy role. You can notice the uneven curve of her back sometimes when she wears open-back tops, but she seems to have done really well with what can sometimes be a rather debilitating condition.
I had no idea about this omg, i noticed during the Dark age episode when ethan is tattooing her, her back doesnt look flat now that i think about it!
She didn't study martial arts for The Buffy Role she was already a black belt prior to Buffy
There was a comment from someone in the crew about Sarah running looking funny at some point and he was let go (not sure if just for this or for more than one thing). He was married to a makeup artist on the show and made a stink about it. Sarah was always a little self conscious about it and despite Joss' other issues, he was protective of Sarah.
I did not know this
TIL SMG and i have something in common. That's it, i'm breaking out the punching bag and learning karate. 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
This is my reading of the Xander/Cordelia situation. Which is complex and can be read in numerous ways.
I don't think Xander's interest in Cordelia is at all unexpected. If you rewatch the previous episodes he's always very aware of what she's doing and makes a lot of unkind comments about her. I think he's always been very attracted to her (although never openly admitting it to himself and covering it up through insults).
Xander displays a lot of insecurity about his social/economic class and appears to feel inferior as a man. He unconsciously believes he has zero chance with someone as beautiful, popular and wealthy as Cordelia. The way Cordelia has always interacted with him just reinforces his insecurities about being poor and unpopular. She represents all of the things he feels he lacks: beauty, social currency/power and wealth. Which is why he can't help but dislike her, her very presence reminds him that he's not good enough and maybe never will be.
He even says in season 1: 'Cordelia, you haven't been mean to me all day. Is it something I've done? (to Willow) Okay, see how she has no clue that I'm even a mammal, much less a human being?'
This form of communication protects him from any sort of rejection. Ironically, she's probably one of the few characters who can keep up with his banter. 😂
I like how Drusilla's rise is in her ash darkened dress, where before she was dressed in white/cream when weakened.. Season 2 really has some great episodes that establishes Buffy lore..
The relentless excellence of BVTS -- which, as you pointed out, really hits its stride with season 2 episode 6 -- is really quite astounding. Strap in; this ride does not stop.
Kendra: Kendra, the vampire slayer!
Cass: 👁👄👁
You are correct. We've had a run of really good episodes. There's a reason we kept saying season 2 was so good XD
Without getting into spoilers territory, the Watchers can sometimes identify a girl as a possible slayer, and in that case, they start training and preparing her beforehand, just in case she is "called", that is, in case she is chosen to receive the slayer powers. In Buffy's case, they didn't know until she got her powers, so it all came as big surprise to her, which helps explain why she is relutanct to accept it. If at some point you decide to watch the movie, you'll see the lore was very different in it, which is why I always recommend not watching it at least until the end of this season, to avoid confusion.
I wouldn't bother watching the movie at all. The comic book adaptation is much better.
It's pretty weird that Kendra's watcher didn't call the council and was like "the girl i was training got called as the next slayer, i guess your previous slayer died, happy to get your support and everything since I've got the one and only slayer" and the coucil calls Giles saying "condolences for the death of your slayer, well, since she's gone and you don't need to work undercover in a California high school library, you can come back here now--" for Giles to explain Buffy is not currently dead and then everyone would have known there were two slayers.
yep, either stupid loophole among the writers or Kendras watcher for some unknown reason wanting to keep Kendra a secret
Well, he probably did. The watcher's council is just a secretive group.
The Watchers really suck for a number of reasons including lack of communication.
Greetings from Oxford in the UK. If the Watchers Council operates as efficiently and smoothly as the British government then it makes perfect sense that everything is riven by factions and everyone serving their own interests - and thus chaos rules.
The look on your face when you found out Kendra was a slayer.... priceless! And then the excitement over Cordelia and Xander? And, the date and then Willow and Oz? Great stuff! Also, I was surprised that neither Buffy nor Kendra, or even Xander or Willow or Giles, for that matter, did not make sure/confirm that Dru and Spike were actually destroyed! Also, did you notice how the students were asking if the police/Taraka assassin fight was a demonstration? Just one of those ways that "normies" rationalize what is really going on. Great review, awesome analysis, and the reactions... again... priceless!! Really enjoying these and really looking forward to the next episodes!
Cass, I'm just here to say I love the new intro and I'm hoping you have it for your movie reactions too!
Alright, I leave you to your BTVS now ☺️
Kendra Young has entered the building !!!
Cass, you may recognize Bianca Lawson from her other roles as Megan Jones in "Saved by the Bell: The New Class" from 1993 to 1994, Rhonda Coley in "Sister, Sister" from 1995 to 1996, Nikki Greene in "Dawson's Creek" from 1999 to 2000, Emily Bennett in "The Vampire Diaries" from 2009 to 2014, Maya St. Germain in "Pretty Little Liars" from 2010 to 2012, Marin Morrell in "Teen Wolf" from 2012 to 2014, and Darla in "Queen Sugar" from 2016 to 2022.
Bianca's also Beyonce's step-sister. 🙂👍
I have been so looking forward to you watching these two episodes!
fun fact(s): Bianca Lawson (Kendra) was originally cast as Cordelia but couldn't stay because she was already committed to another show. Funnily enough, Sarah Michelle Gellar was also casted as Cordelia at some point, but was asked to audition for Buffy since they were having a lot of trouble finding someone to play Buffy
EDITING TO ADD: it's not clear by the cut version, so I need to ask... did you notice that Oz literally jumped in front of Willow to protect her from the bullet? like... they met the day before and he's already doing this stuff? !!
And Bianca is indeed quite beautiful
I thought Cordelia was created as a character because Charisma auditioned for Buffy but she wasn't right for it, so they made Cordelia for her to play?
Edit: ...maybe I'm thinking of a different show and characters/actors, lol. Cause now I looked things up and what you said is what is coming up... now it's going to bother me in regard to what I'm thinking about.... unless there's contradictory information. I swear that's what Charisma has said in interviews and on Buffy panels.
@@BaileeWalsh There was always a Cordelia in the script. Charisma was originally trying for Buffy, and Sara was originally trying for Cordelia. Creating a character for an actor who did not get the part happens sometimes ( like in Glee, Zoey 101...).
Bianca Lawson was still playing a high schooler in her thirties; somewhere there is a painting, I swear... kerk
And the weirdest thing is that Bianca Lawson, 13 to 14 years later was still being cast as a teenager when she started her role in Pretty Little Liars. It was like, does this woman ever age?
Nah, crazy Drusilla is just how we like her! 😊
Have you noticed the role the soundtrack plays in the show? When Xander & Cordy kiss there's a big romantic string section, over-the-top. It can also be used to mislead you or hint at something not obvious visibly. That's how composer Richard Wagner used leitmotifs in his operas to convey new information or make a connection.
Kendra training from a young age is a callback to a bit of lore in Joss Whedon's original script for the Buffy movie (it didn't make it on screen): the Watcher's Council finds girls who might become the slayer, identifying them by mystical means, and trains them so that whichever ends up being chosen will be ready. Buffy was overlooked until after she became the slayer because the modern skeptical age has greatly dimished the Watchers' numbers.
You put this in your coffee.
A spoon! Your hands! Your face!
It's white.
Paper! Snow! A ghost!
It's heavier than milk.
A rock! A dog! The Earth!
That scene might be one of my favorite all-time TV clips
I just want you to know I am living for these Buffy reactions/commentaries. So much fun every week!
The female cop from the Order of Taraka could only be seen for a second in part 1 (at least, I think I saw her). When the students were hanging around during the beginning of career day.
yep she was there in the background
Glad you are picking up on the changes in the story telling and the narratives i. You are just a few episodes away from entering the meat of the Buffyverse and what is the most underrated great show in television history. Adjust your seat belt, put your mind at rest, and just be ready to smile, feel sadness, laugh. and really cry. I envy you on the first viewings.
Your enthusiasm for the things you watch is super contagious. I feel giddy in my seat while watching you fangirl over what's happening on screen, haha.
I love the shot of Dru carrying Spike with the charred altar in the background.
Oh these episodes keep getting better too! Some exciting stuff coming and im so excited to go on this journey with you!
Drusilla torturing Angel is interesting because she does seem genuinely angry at Angel for killing her family, when as a vampire, she really shouldn't.
Yeah, but Drusilla will use any excuse for torture. But yes, most vampires kill their own family. He killed hers though before she was turned, so she retains the memories of how she felt as a human.
Always read it more in the sense that she knows that bringing up her family will add to the torment of Angel with a soul than she actually being angry. I'll bet that if Angel have had no soul then she would not be angry at all with him for this.
As a vampire, she really, *REALLY* should.
Vampires have a lot of their previous personalities and thoughts, just angrier and meaner.
@@happyslapsgiving5421 should she really? Vampires don't care for humans, I mean yes Angel didn't really care about his Father but he also killed his little sister who he loved (as a human). Turn a child and it will kill their human parents, so I don't see how she really should to be honest.
Dru lost something important to her and it was taken by angel. Of course she's angry. It doesn't really matter that the thing taken was a person or a doll or a letter or whatever. It matters to me therefore its important
This episode actually gives a lot of insight into WHY we're following Buffy. Why now, why this Slayer, why this story? Slayers have existed for a very long time, we could have seen the story of any of them, so why did we jump in right when Buffy shows up on the scene?
Well if you haven't seen the Buffy movie (which isn't canon to the series, but does at least give you her origin story) then it can be a bit confusing until this episode. But here we see that Buffy, just by virtue of being herself and being a strong, confident girl who isn't going to be pushed around by anyone and isn't going to ever blindly take orders, is different than all other Slayers.
This is the story Joss wanted to tell here, about what happens to the world and society when women stopped just taking a backseat and stopped taking orders and challenged the patriarchal structures in place. And he set it in a world of monsters and magic to be able to tackle some big subjects going forward with great allegories and subtexts that this fantasy setting allows him to use. The "training" of the Slayers to be quiet, obedient, demure, virginal tools to be used by older men and taught never to question or talk back is his critique on the traditional roles women were forced into.
I'm not sure what copy you watched of season 1, but when they aired every episode was prefaced with, "She alone will stand against the vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer." But this show is the story of what happens when the Slayer isn't alone. When she has friends, when she has family, when she has someone she loves. It's about the first time a girl-made-Slayer ever stood up and said, "This power is mine and I'm going to do what I think is right with it, not just what you tell me to do."
It's a Slayer making her own decisions for the first time and what happens to her, and to the world, when a strong girl grows into a strong woman.
Up until Buffy died at the end of season 1, there was only one Slayer in existence. This can be explained by something that Giles said in the very first episode, "one girl in all the world. "
I just love your Buffy reactions. The commentary, the intelligent analysis...this is how Buffy reactions should be done, imo. Reactors take notes!
Your face at the end of episode 1 😅😅
Literal cartoon eyes of shock 👀👀
Now imagine having to wait a week to find out what the heck was going on!!
"What is that accent?" What, indeed xD
Oz is my favourite. 😍
"Big guns?" the timing of that was so perfect. you and the transcriber at the same time.
little fact for yous,, the reason Oz hair changes colour through the seasons is due to him also playing Scott on Austin Powers, he was also at times filming the movies throughout his time on buffy, so his hair changed colour as it needed to be darker for Austin Powers. loving the reactions for new Buffy fans seeing the show for the first time xx
Yes, we saw Angel's apartment back in the episode Angel in s1. Darla was waiting for him and we find out they used to be lovers. And, yes, Buffy going there when she feels so at risk and terrified is very telling. He is her safe place. A sort of continuation of what she said earkier in the episode: about him being the only thing in her crazy life that makes sense to her
I am so happy you are enjoying the show so much! Keep up the great work!
19:26 ive been waiting for that look since you started xD
Finally Kendra, i love her
I'm glad you love Kendra, me too
Slayers aren't expected to make it to adulthood.
She is not payed to be the slayer, nor is she expected to live long enough to having an income becoming a problem. Remember that she actually died back in S1 at age 16 and was only resurrected due to Xander being there, so had it not been for circumstance then the best Slayer in history would have had a 2 year career.
Great episode, great reaction. I know some people are defining how you should feel about souls and demons and love. I would say take it all with a grain of salt because we will keep learning more and I'm curious about your reaction to what's shown, not us layering our opinions over yours.
So yes, that's what we meant by "Season 1 is good but the show really picks up halfway through Season 2" 😉
I think S2 is a lot of people's favorite season.
I like the VHS style intro, btw.
Great reaction as always! Very impressed that you picked up on the game show connection of the title! 👍
Those were the first episodes written by Marti Noxon (well.. officially: she rewrote Halloween). She quickly became Joss's shadow/consigliere when the show only had 2 writers/showrunners (Joss rewrote everything at this point) and they did everything (story arcs, rewrites/notes, on set, production meetings, editing etc). Marti became de facto the 3rd real long term writer of the show (she began as a writer, her production days began 2 years later).
One thing that makes Buffy so good and different from other shows of its time is that most things that happen in the show have some consequence. Even the stand alone episodes are referenced here and there. I really love how the show does not take death lightly. We have the first episode that dwells into the trauma, and then here we see it actually has a consequence to her death. It would already be nice if it was just the trauma episode, but the fact it spawned a new slayer it's just great story telling
4:24 The average Slayer doesn't typically live to see adulthood.
Can’t believe you cut Kendra’s best line! That’s me favorite shirt! That’s me only shirt!🤣💀
Oz is a musician, his ambition has to do with playing the perfect chords on the guitar. Also i have news for you: The next 10 are equally good if not better than these, yes season 2 is great!!!
There's still three episodes that aren't that good. The greatest season is S3, 22 great episodes in a row
Im a sucker for filler episodes so even when the main storyline doesnt move forward i still enjoy the camp more silly episodes lol
@@stefanoduran4 Agreed to some extent. Yeah, 3 episodes that aren't great still coming in S2. S5 has 20-21 great episodes, so on that front S3 wins by a hair, but S5 has other advantages, IMHO.
Let's wait and see what she thinks of the next one ;)
@@mathias6185 i think S5 has two episodes that aren't great, they're not bad though. S5 is near S3, it has two of the greatest episodes and a better general arch. But S3 has better episodes in general, is more consistent
Every single moment of your reactions were spot on!!!! I was clapping my hands at every single one of your reactions i can’t wait for you to finish season 2!!!! Ahhhhh
She's back to make our day!
Yes, a great two-part story that introduces another slayer!! This seems to be the only time in history (watcher history) that there have been two slayers, so this is very interesting. As we learn about Kendra, we see how very different she is from Buffy. Buffy has friends, her mom and a normal school life. Kendra has none of that and only has her watcher. Buffy even chose to love Angel instead of killing him, which any other slayer certainly would have killed him. Kendra could not understand Buffy's life and thought it was a weakness. Buffy's attachments to the world, her friends and family, are a key strength. We've already seen Xander save her life, and her mother saved her from Spike, so Buffy must be doing something right. This is a key theme of the show - to deal with life's problems, supernatural or otherwise, you need help from your friends and family.
Since no one has said it - 'Du Lac' is very likely a reference to Louis de Pointe Du Lac - the lead character and narrator of Anne Rice's classic vampire novel, 'Interview with the Vampire'. There are several Anne Rice references across Buffy!
AMC's 2022 adaptation of 'Interview with the Vampire is also SPECTACULAR and every Buffy fan should watch it. The mixture of larger than life characters, elevated language, dark comedy, & vampiric melodrama has extremely overlapping appeal!
Yes, the Watchers Council really sucks for not paying the slayers when they have seemingly limitless resources. There's also the fact that they never informed Buffy's parents for some reason even though she's a minor and her mother not knowing also puts her in considerable risk since they don't provide them with any security.
I love when Giles himself looks worried when it looks like Kendra killed Angel. Sweet moment.
This is so fun watching you watch this series for the first time. It’s taking me back to when I watched it when it first aired. I was hooked from the very beginning and was a freshman in high school during season 1. I could relate to a lot of the high school tropes. David Boreanaz was one of my newest TV crushes. Seeing a female lead kick butt was also a big deal. Love watching these reactions! The Kendra reveal was good, as was Drusilla being cured. It was a good storyline to begin setting things up for later episodes. Looking forward to the rest of season 2!
I get such joy from watching your joy ❤
The Watchers as an organization must have money. Buffy should be getting some sort of stipend.
In the end scene with Willow and Oz, all the line following Oz's compliment about Willow's smile were ab-libbed by the actors. Seth has said in an interview that his line "I mock you with my monkey pants" was initially dreamed up by Alyson. If you like them together then check out "My Stepmother is an Alien" which came out 10 years prior to Buffy.
25:51 I mean, yeah it's an important point in the show for _this_ reason, but it does arguably get overstated. She wasn't really dead, proven by the fact that Xander could resuscitate her with simple CPR; no black magic required. Somehow that was "dead" enough to call another Slayer, but at best she was _dying_ but not dead.
Nevers googling anything about Buffy! 😂😂
Enjoy Buffy's journey! 👍
😂😂 The second I saw, 'Du Loc', I thought of that bit in shrek too!😂
Cordy and Xander embody the Belligerent Sexual Tension trope 😁
11:38 "Some tech company?" Referring to Microsoft. It was the late 1990s and Microsoft was the "world's leading software concern". The recruiter was ". . . late taking off from Sea-Tac"
Could also have been IBM. Also Jobs had just returned to run Apple. Microsoft wasn't even on the Fortune 500 list in 1997 (IBM, Intel and AT&t [Unix] was though).
@@Henrik_Holst Microsoft at the time was regarded by the public as the world's leading software firm, whether or not it was. Also the recruiter was ". . . late taking off from Sea-Tac" (Seattle)
@@seanmcmurphy4744 could be argued, I worked in IT at the time and I for one didn't held that belief. Also notable that all the computers used in the show are Apple:s.
Sea-Tac is quite the clue though (not familiar with US airport names so this one flew under my radar so to speak).
We saw Angel's place in Season 1, episode Angel when Darla came to taunt him after Buffy found out he was a vampire. Also Xander showed up in Prophecy Girl to get Angel to go to the Master's lair with him to help Buffy.
"E-flat, Diminished-9th." Remember when we first saw Oz he was playing bass for a band.
Love your Xordelia analysis. Though i will say Xander gives as good as he gets on the insult front! And remember that time earlier this season when Cordelia tried to sincerely thank him.
Kendra is played by Bianca Lawson. There was a meme a few years ago about how she doesn't age, and had been playing teenagers for almost 20 years. Also, she's Beyonce's stepsister.
Remember the book Giles tried to give Buffy when they met for the first time in the first episode? The Handbook.
Omg I just found out Kendra was also in Vampire Diaries (Emily Bonnet) and Pretty little liars plus more. But, she is actually step sisters with Beyoncé! Kendra (I dont know her real name) dad married Beyoncé’s mom!
Her real name is Bianca Lawson, that played Kendra.
19:22 Cass brain blown. Welcome to sunnydale. If u think it, it might happen and more.
E flat diminished 9th -- "What is he talking about?" Oz is a musician. He is the guitarist for the band Dingos ate my Baby.
I really like that you're doing 2 at a time. It makes sense with a few future episodes too for this season. Love your reactions.
I'm so excited for what's coming your way from this point on until the end of the season! Can't wait to watch your reactions (:
"...that little mishap." Lol, wow!
A note on the “dead” detail. Think about how at a certain time of human history CPR wasn’t a thing, and that people who were in comas were assumed to be dead and buried… sadly alive. It’d be reasonable to think that many rules about slayers were understood through the lens of pre-modern times. So from that perspective, she really was dead for a moment.
I would think it more that Slayers being who they are most often (like 100% of the time) would die from fighting with a Vampire and that kind of death no CPR would help with. Buffy was extremely lucky in that The Master was so hell bent on going out of his prison that he just bit her enough to break out and then stormed off.
As far as I know, this was the only time Buffy kissed Angel while he was in his vampire face.
I would imagine they tried to limit using that prosthetic as much as possible and I would also imagine kissing while in it is difficult.
Considering he vamps out when experiencing strong emotion, which we know definitely includes kissing after the s1 episode Angel, I imagine it happens a fair amount but we don't get to see it for the reasons the previous commenter stated 😅
oh if you think these episodes are 10/10 just you wait for what this season and the seasons to come have in store :)
love that whole vhs intro. Amazing
I’m definitely looking forward to your reactions for the rest of the season. Judging from your reactions to this & other season 2 episodes, you’re gonna have a lot of fun the rest of the way🙂
E flat diminished ninth - Oz was talking music
your canadian pronunciation of Drusilla is hilarious
This is such a game changing episode that really adds to the mythology.
Mid-Season finales are still a thing. Perhaps you watch only streaming services where the shows are uploaded all at once, but seasons on TV are still 22-24 episodes. They are called Winter breaks.
The comment on why vampires appear to love is a good analysis, but one we do see disproven. It could be based on particular types. Like maybe if the human side was exceptional in life and that could help break through as a vampire.
Du Lac Du Loc, same ole same ole.
I love the dynamic difference between Kendra and Buffy. One is the perfect Slayer student, the other is more carefree.
Ooo wanting Druscilla at full potential is morbid curiosity. You are not alone. But yeah it's to her full strength when Angelus first turned her.
Kendra being a vampire slayer makes sense as you hear in the episode that since Buffy technically died another slayer was called.
Now the plot hole here is they could easily "kill" Kendra in the same way as Buffy and activate another slayer but it's never bought up.
The Watchers counsel you'll eventually learn more on is like The Talamasca from Anne Rice's books, an order that looks towards all types of supernatural. So Kendra being like a prized student is easy to see.
