As an aside - the first people to break Enigma were the Poles led by mathematician Marian Rejewski. This occurred in the early 1930s, long before the start of WW2. Once hostilities did break out, the Poles delivered their findings in a big bundle to the UK and it is this that gave the staff at Bletchley a head start.
It wasn't exactly the same code of course - things had moved on and become more complex and difficult, but the work done by the Polish provided a huge amount of useful information to those who could be said to have broken 'Enigma Mk 2'.
Bletchley Park was where the Codebreakers of WW2 were based. They broke the Enigma code so were able to read German messages. My Aunt worked there at some point
My great grandma also did I believe, I know she worked on that stuff and the name sounds familiar
There's a whole video, there.
@@Jamie_D Bletchley Park was the main centre I believe. It is now open to the public but I think you have to book if you want to visit
There’s a fab film about Bletchley
@@deeboneham2738 Is it Enigma? I have it on DVD
Just a note: Christmas crackers are supposed to be pulled by two people, one each end, and whoever ends up with the centre piece wins and gets to keep the contents. So you don't generally pull it apart by yourself. But the usual etiquette is that if you've already won one and then you win any more against someone who hasn't won one yet, you just gift them it. That's important not only for the sake of being nice, but also because everybody needs to have their own paper crown for Christmas dinner and to get the chance to read out a joke. 🙂
Came here to say the same but ……
The trick is to dig your thumbnail into the narrow part of the cracker so that it breaks more easily. Then you can ensure that the other person wins without it seeming fake. Generally a parent/child interaction in my family. Always nice to gift a win!
Happy New Year to your lovely family from York UK. Btw you are supposed to pull a cracker with another person lol x
haha! That explains the difficulties 😅 Happy New Year to you as well :)
Oh my you should have grown up in the 1970s.
So many Christmas Decorative Tapes for Christmas Present Wrapping.
Woolworths always had so many different ones.
You would have been in heaven 🎅🏼🦌☃️❄🎄
Woolworths 😢😢😢
So you need to sit down with that box of maltesers and watch the snowman
They should definitely watch The Snowman. It is a staple of UK Christmas and I am sure they would love it.
My goodness, that package from Martin must have cost a fortune, just those Toblerone are over £20. Happy New Year to Lyndsey, Steve and Sofia and Martin!!
Yes, he really does spoil us. 💖 Along with so many in the UK! We are truly blessed 🥰 Happy New Year Jane!
Whenever there is a package opening, it's like another birthday/Christmas for Sophia...
Isn't she growing!!! You're all gonna be as high as kites eating all of that chocolate!!! We are SO lucky here in the UK that we can just get good chocolates and goodies off the shelves!!! Happy New Year guys!!!
Thank you Margaret! ❤️ Happy New Year to you as well :)
I have an addiction to stationery lol so I totally understand the tape addiction! 😂
It's not a double decker train, it's a Tram or early bus. Swan Vestas were a type of match, so that's an advert on the side of the bus. If it has train wheels it's a tram that ran on rails in the street. If it has tyres it's a Bus. Wow! That's a whole years supply of chocolate & goodies for you.
I think it's a tram. The very first ones were horse drawn, later they ran on electricity
It’s a tram. My father was a tram driver.
Another lovely video. Sophia is growing up so quickly, especially since starting school. I love to see what people have sent. Happy New Year to you all💖🎄🎊
❤️
That was one of the nicest unboxings. You can never have enough craft stuff. Those treats that they've sent are some of the best.
Someone needs to send you some Thorntons chocolates.
It's always great when you get your very first PEZ. We used to love to get the different PEZ tops.
what cool parents you are to make you'r child so happy it goes past so fast enjoy every second please
That scarf looks lovely on you Lindsey xx
*Good Morning Roots Family!* 😁
Yay all 3 of you! Princess Sophia is gracing us with an audience! 👑
I love these unboxings, so I shall shut up and get watching.
Happy New Year! 🎉
Lots of love to you all. 😘😘😘 xxxxx
PS: Good God what on EARTH did your delivery people do to that box! 😱 3:20
That was great fun! I love these videos. Steve you already look high as a kite just from smelling the chocolate and sugar! 🥴
I watched while eating a bag of Galaxy Minstrels! Yum! 😁 xxxxx
We love Galaxy! 😍 Happy new year to you and your family, Tami. ❤️
Nothing wrong with loving tape. I love pens, books and boxes.
Yeah I get it too boxes are my thing
Pens were mine, gel pens, glitter pens, expensive fountain pens, markers the list goes on lol
I love tape, ribbons, string and bows. I use tinsel on parcels too
The very best chocolate biscuits are McVities digestives. They come in dark and milk chocolate, you would love them.😂😊
We have tried McVities! We did enjoy them as well :)

Peace love from England ❤
Bletchley Park is where Alan Turing and his colleagues (yes, mostly women) cracked the enigma machine. Check out the film "The Imitation Game" with Benedict Cumberbatch playing Turing. The big turning point in cracking the coded messages was the end of each message. They were all signed off with a coded version of "heil Hitler" so that gave them the clues needed to crack the code.
Mostly women because the men were busy.
It is now a museum and is a fantastic place to visit. It is very moving and there is so much to see and do and learn.
I hope Steve and Lindsay do a video about Bletchley Park.
@@charlestaylor9424Clearly the women were very busy too.
@belladonnichazeyjane4887 by busy I meant the men were off fighting so all of the clerical jobs were done by women. There were certainly some top of their game female mathematicians there but Turing was elite mathematical genius and Tommy Flowers was a tremendously talented engineer.
@AC-um2mk It was the CAA engineers training school for a while.
Happy New Year To Steve Lindsay And Sophia Who It Is Always A Pleasure To See & I Hope That She Is Enjoying The Three Atlases From The Previous Package And The Missing Package Has Been Declared A Total Loss With No Refund Of The Shipping Cost Paid
She is definitely enjoying the books you sent! Thank you ❤️ Very sorry to hear they won't refund you for their mistake. Dealing with the postal service is so frustrating sometimes--especially considering how much it costs to ship nowadays.
We appreciate you and hope you have a blessed 2025!
Hope you guys are watching the return of a great British institution - Wallace and Gromit in their latest film, it’s fantastic, you’ll all love it
It’s a shame we can’t send you some ‘cracking cheese’
Hurrah, Britain is the right way around 😜
A happy, healthy and prosperous New Year to you all. Love and best wishes from Yorkshire.
Thank you, Janice ❤️ Much love to you!
I love Bletchley Park, I have an annual pass and try to go once a month. I've had afternoon tea there during the summer during 1940s weekend.
Happy New Year from Hertfordshire, England 🏴
Happy New Year :)
truly heart warming watching you'r content
Happy new year guys, and to lovely angel Sophia.
Happy new year, Kaylee! ❤️
Steve you had a lot of British stuff but you still haven’t had all the tea, coffee, hot chocolate drinks yet. I definitely enjoyed this video.
Happy new year to you all love from the UK 🇬🇧 ❤❤❤
Your daughter is growing up so quickly, best wishes to you all
Happy New Year to you all have a wonderful 2025 ❤️ x
I cant believe all the British goodies you have there. I didn't know you'd could send food parcels to the US from the UK. Maltesers and the Galaxy digestives are the best treats you have there.
Happy New Year, from Glasgow, Scotland 🇬🇧🎉
Happy New Year to you three . Your little girl is such a darling . ❤

From, Brigid, SE,London, UK. :) :) :)
Oooh, the Foxs biccies!! The scarf looks lovely Lyndsay
Treasure that Cadbury, the factory shutdown and did a recall just before Christmas it's as rare as rocking horse .... here...
The shop shut. The factory is still alive and well.
@NailHeavenAshford if it's still producing, where's the product? QA Shut it down, and until more raw material arrives we've seen nothing from them, how is that alive and well?
I think it would be great to do a video on the snowman - I think Sofia would really like it , it’s a short film that’s on RUclips , that we watch every Christmas here in the uk
There’s also a sequel, the snowman and the snowdog
Have a wonderful Happy New Year you guys❤
A crown for a princess, loving this vid x
Re Bletchley Park, Alan Turing who invented the codebreaking computer worked there. Many spies were trained there and many codes were broken there.
Bletchley Park was where the UK code breakers during the war developed the first real programmable computer and broke enigma the second time due to an update, after the Poles did it pre-war...
_Nearly 10,000 people worked in the wider Bletchley Park organisation_
_At first GC&CS followed its pre-war recruitment policy and looked for ‘Men and women of a professor type’ through contacts at Oxford and Cambridge universities. Many famous Codebreakers including Alan Turing, Gordon Welchman and Bill Tutte were found this way_
Something truly British. Nice to see Sophia. Maxi Jazz died recently, Brixton boy (he was sicker than James Brown pretended to be). The percussion girl (hat) is British / Indian. You need to wear ear cans for this. People love our isles because of music and humour and all that comes from it. Love xxx
Happy new year from andover UK.
15:36 For Bletchley Park info - 2 films to watch :-) Enigma (2001) The Imitation Game (2014)
Thank you for putting us back on the map?!?!
Haha, those pez sweets will have her climbing the walls.
Excellent film from 2001 about Blechley park and the enigma code breaking
The scarf really suits your colouring Lindsay
Sophia's smile warms the coldest days. Happy New Year to you all from the UK. 💕💕
Enjoy your treats and Happy New year to you all.
I really like Steve's jumper/sweater.
Happy new year guys nice to see you all. Lynsey:the scarf suited you so much , just one downer. It's illegal to send Christmas crackers in the post because they're classified as explosives so can't fly. This could lead to prosecution on both parties. Oops.
Oh my godness! Your kid is the cutest little girl ever! ❤
❤️
I never got a Pez as a kid, was far too expensive. I think they was probably £1 at the time, at a time when most sweets and chocolate bars were 10-25p 😅
Lol got you about a years worth of sweet treats there
I'm a Bletchley boy, although we have been swallowed by Milton Keynes we will always be "home of the codebreakers"
The perfect happy family
No family is perfect--even if it seems like it on social media! We all have our moments 😅 But love is the glue that holds us together. And maybe some UK chocolate, too haha
Love from Bedford U.K.❤️
Another great vlog😊 happy new year to you all.
Happy new year to you all....I wish you a prosperous, healthy and peaceful 2025.!! Thanks for the channel and the content you share with us. God bless.
Thank you, John ❤️ Happy new year to you and yours!
Merry Christmas from wales!! 🏴🎁
Seconded.
That looked like a very wholesome 20 mins
I don’t know if you guys have ever been to England before but if you haven’t and you plan too I would 100% recommend Cornwall it’s at the bottom of England and has over 400 miles of coastline beautiful rugged beaches and tidal pools it has Falmouth harbour which is the third deepest natural harbour in the world London is extremely overrated expensive and congested I imagine it it be a British version of nyc lol 😂 I think to get the best “feel” for British life your best bet is little villages and the British seaside towns where fish and chips and ice cream are almost mandatory 😂 in Cornwall you’ll get all of that plus scones and Cornish pasty’s lol 😂 I used to live in Bristol which is great for shopping and public transport and is definitely a better alternative to London but we love Cornwall it’s a common holiday (vacation) destination in England and has so much history we moved to Cornwall almost 3 years ago 🙂 when the weather gets better we plan to explore more of it and go camping regularly we sometimes vlog this stuff but my editing skills aren’t great 😂 the uks national parks would be a great road trip to do I’d love to visit Scotland but we’ve now moved as far away from there as possible in this country 😂😂 if you ever visit Cornwall England I would happily be your tour guide 😂 I have a daughter of a similar age and she’d happily do that too 😂 xx
Thank you for the kindness! We have never been (well, aside from a short layover at Heathrow), but Cornwall is absolutely on our must visit list if we make it over. ❤️
Happy New Year from Buckinghamshire, England
Happy New Year from Northumberland!
I think all kids had a harmonica, I remember my mother hiding mine because she was sick of the racket
🎉Happy Year🎉 love from Liverpool/🇬🇧 xx
In my part of the UK we tend to call harmonicas mouth organs
haha, that's great! I'm gonna have to start using that term. I'm sure people on this side of the pond will be pretty confused 😅
Awwwww. Love this channel ❤
You deserve it all. Have a great New Year, safe and prosperous!!!!
Thank you! You too!
What a fantastic haul!
You should definitely look into Bletchley Park - the people who worked there kept their secrets close for 30 years until the restrictions eased. I watched an interview with a husband and wife who met at a staff dance whilst working at Bletchley. Whilst they obviously knew they both worked there, because they were working on different projects they never talked about their work even to each other for the 30 years.
It definitely sounds like a topic we'd enjoy learning more about! We're going to have to add that to the list. :)
Happy New Year!
Chocolate coins has been a default uk xmas stocking-filler for a while.
I think the red item is a double-decker tram which ran on tracks.. Swan Vestas are matches.
The red one is a tram, swanvesta is a company that made matches
The red double decker is an omnibus, precursor to std buses. Didn't run on tracks like trams but was connected to overhead electric cables. Originally horse-drawn.
Hope 2025 is a great year for all of you ❤ from Cheshire UK 🇬🇧
That looks a lot more like a tram than a bus to me.
Bletchley Park broke the Enigma code machine using the first computer. Separate departments were banned talking about what work they were doing. a) because it was secret, and b) in case they had an effect on other departments thought processes.
Aww is Sophia a lefty me too ❤
She is! :)
Colossus was the first electronic programmable computer and was designed and built by Tommy Flowers. He was a colleague of Alan Turing, who encouraged Tommy to build Colossus, although Tommy Flowers was the main designer, not Turing.
THAT IS A LONDON TRAM OR BUS, FROM THE 1940s OR 1950s,WHICH CAME BEFORE THE ONES YOU NOW SEE.
Bletchley Park was a wartime code breaking section of the secret service. They got their hands on a German code machine and after much trial and error broke the Enigma Code. It was also the birthplace of the first computer.
Bletchley Park was the super secret code breaker centre and is now open to the public as a historic museum
And WELL worth a visit!
Lovely video... hope Sophia didnt get a sugar shock from all the sweets! 😀
Happy new year from Perth Scotland
It's not a train but an old London bus, now put on a favourite movie, make hot chocolate then tuck into chocolate. And now you've had a British Christmas
I think it was a trolley bus
Lovely packages guys, the double decker model looks like an old London tram way better than the modern stuff we have running in south London now 😀. Definitely feeling jealous about the snow, we have some forecast in UK over the weekend but will probably miss us here in Kent as usual, very rare to get decent snowfall here now, maybe could put a little video up if you get a good fall ❄️ 😊. Though uk comes to a standstill with a little dusting when it does fall 😂
You need to look into the London Transport Museum. Great place for adults and kids
@deeboneham2738 I'm actually heading there next Saturday
It still surprises me that you all don't get much snow, considering how much higher up in latitude you are. But yeah, I'll try and take a little video if we do end up having anything worth mentioning :) Hope you and your family have a great weekend, Mark!
@reactingtomyroots you must be well and truly burning the midnight oil as they say lol, hope you guys have a great weekend too
@ Hope you enjoy it
