    The biggest selling point about CR is the locals they are so down to earth and too interested whats in your wallet. I find living here in a major tourist island the locals are very business orientated and the consent hordes of tourists gets annoying. I have RE 411 Scram great little single cynlinder motor, I will call into Tony when up next month as I am nearly a neighbour living in MaeChan.

      "so down to earth and too interested whats in your wallet"... did you mean to say NOT too interested, Colin? Because that's my impression up here in the far north. Because tourism and foreigners play a pretty insignificant role in the lives of local Thais they are not so interested or commercially motivated. I just checked out the cost of overnight accommodation in Koh Samui, an island I knew before the airport was built or the road around the island was completed and most coast roads (Chaweng, Lamai etc.) were mud tracks. Now accommodation seems to be 5 to 10 times more expensive than in mainland Thailand.
      I rode my Classic 350 down from CR to Chumphon a few days ago and 4 nights in clean and comfortable hotels en route cost a total of 1500 Baht. Seems impossible to get one night's accommodation on Koh Samui for that, except in a shared dorm hostel.
      No thanks, I think I will stay up in the far north.

      @@ancientbiker Sorry a fradulent slip and now corrected lol.
      I can sort of reamber it that way also over 20 years ago. We are on Koh Phangan and its crazy here with both Russians and Israelis competing how fast they can build 100s of houses go figure that one. But its tripled here here a rai here in 2022 cost 2 million now 6 to 8 million just crazy stuff. But you still cant get somewhere to stay everywhere booked up.
      I know Chumphon very well as my wife is from there. I would call it my second home as her family are still there growing their Durian. Thats a fair haul on a 350cc you must have an ass of steal. I actually know a guy that cycled from Doi Tung to Koh Phangan last year in under 10 days.
      I agree CR is great cant wait to get back up there.

      @@ColinC33Crazy price inflation especially considering that neither Israelis nor Russians nor any other foreigners are permitted to own land in this country. My bike is not fast (100km tops) but it is very comfortable. I did the trip with 4 nights stops but could have done it with 3 or even 2. It wouldn't be so relaxing but I could ride back from here with just one night in Suphan Buri and the second night in Phitsanulok. I was on highways most of the way. Not at all scenic but possible to keep 80 - 100 all the way.

      @@ancientbiker Not sure but about land title but heard it a rolling 30 year lease. But when you have that sort of money everything is possible in Thailand. It takes me 2 days to drive that road and I would be tipping it. We always stop at Phitsinaluk I love it there then a few hours to CR.

    Whats the rental market like there, any nice pool villas?

    • @ancientbiker
      @ancientbiker  7 месяцев назад

      Do you mean up on the Myanmar border near Tony's place? He would know better than me. Down in either Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai there would be a choice of good pool villas, especially in or near Chiang Mai.
