So to draw attention to Amelia Watson, as is only right, it's interesting that two of her associated mascots can be considered iconic and have a personal connection: Bubba, her dog that has been there since debut AND she chose to be connected to her IRL dog, and Smol Ame, who really represents her connection to the fan-content creators of the community.
Smol ame also has connections to everyone's mom
Smol Ame has connections to the Shadow Government
@@columbien10 wait, are our moms part of the shadow government? It all makes sense now!
Smol Ame also has connections to mexican drug cartel
Don’t forget the InvestiGators!!!
The use of Takodachis by Ina are probably the most well integrated I've seen a mascot be into a vtuber. Simple, easy to recognize, small color palate that synergizes completely with their vtuber, and unusual enough to plaster onto literally everything without it looking weird. It helps that she designed the Takos herself too, owing to her artistic capabilities. I'm willing to be that Ina would be drawing new outfits for herself all the time if rigging wasn't an issue
making an eldritch blob akin to a shoggath your mascot is almost cheating, it just fits and can be annything.
Ina was especialy lucky and smart in getting the lovecraftean lore, while having a chill sleepy vibe. It just lined up perfectly
Since debut. Ina's love for the takodachi has been shown in most of her streams
Ina designed not only takodachis but also the other mascots for Myth, except for Bloop.
@@takodachi8283Even the deadbeats?
She made the chibi reaper with shades and the scythe. As for the deadbeats, I have no info@@marcelberes469
Just wanted to shout out a lesser known mascot probably just cause it's holostars, but I really loved the design of Magni's magmites.
Never forget John Maginton
oh yeah the Magmites are top tier mascot, i want to give credit to the Vesties but that's mostly because they are KFP Employees After Dark
well it helps when the Magmites looked a LOT like Takodachis
@@Artista_FrustradoYeah, now that you mention it, we really are KFP After Dark... XD
i'm very certain, that if it the graduation never hppened the magmite had a chance to become one of the most popular fan mascots
I've always thought the Takodachi mascot is a work of pure design genius by Ina, it's so iconic and versatile and just appealing. A lot of vtuber mascot characters can be too complicated or too generic, but the Tako is so simple and versatile, it can work at basically any scale and in any form and be easily drawn by anyone and given different expressions, while still being cute and emotive and sharing key design features with her avatar without looking "weeby" so it can be displayed publicly too and people will just think it's a cute character. You can literally just slap a Takodachi on anything and it would be a cute and aesthetically pleasing piece of merch where the same can't be said for 99% of mascot characters. It's probably the most beloved and iconic vtuber mascot for good reason. Simplicity is underrated. I also think Mumei's friend is really cute, but she herself never really incorporated him enough to make him stick unfortunately.
Plus ina has used takodachis into her newer outfits, she one of few i see full invests into their mascot out of hololive.
Here's hoping that Takodachis won't suffer the same fate as the blue octopus plushie and then called as an antisemitic symbol.
@@ruick78She also uses them as decoration in some of her backgrounds too.
@@gyaszmadar well... inas entier design is lovecraftean inspiered, so there is that for snowflakes. But then again, messing with anything that is adjacent to the cthulu mythos tends to go to shit real fast, as it's almost the same as pissing off 4chan
True...i need to lay off the freakshow.@_zapatoz_
And then Korone’s mascot is just a severed head. And it works so well
I’d argue her Kedama (fur ball) form is considered a mascot
I'd say SSRB are about on par with Takodachi, for the exact same reasons. Their design is even incredibly close - just instead of the mainly chill and quiet vibes they radiate bursting energy, which can range from happily cheering on Botan in her often hilarious antics to literally exploding with excitement. And despite that they can still vibe along. Also great for merch, as proven by the tons of various illustrations of them Botan constantly uses during her chatting streams - and on top of that they're customizable and come in all colors and patterns!
I love when SSRBs and Takodachis are drawn interacting by fan artists. And their merch-atability is equally high. The round shape is just perfect.
It’s a fun fact that Ina considers the takodachi and SSRB to be cousins
Tfw Hoshiyomi don’t have an identity or mascot so we just unanimously appointed Iroha as our representative xD
Ours is the most dynamic of mascots.
Technically yes if you have seen Ponroha's tweets then you would know
I like to believe Iroha is the embodiment of the collective consciousness of all hoshiyomis

I call it as a winning move lol
I think what make mascots successful are simple (easy to draw) and versatile (can take any forms or wear different clothes).
After I saw Ollie's Olivia model
I wish they give it a proper rigging so Ollie can mess with it from time to time.
They do, but apparently she need to be careful not making Olivia overtake Ollie as a brand.
@@ThePrastomo Yes , same reason we rarely see Furball Korone , Red Gura or Kurokami
About your points on fan names, I disagree. I don't think it makes them more parasocial but just makes them feel like they belong in a community.
Yeah, it's kinda like a virtual uniform.
nah vtuber fandom is 2-3 times the "chat" level parasocial. It gets really bad in fact to the point that it impede who they can collab with at times. Kayfab is just as bad to be honest as it leans into parasocial and buffs up those who fall into it. Can it give more superchats and merch sales yes very much so but it also brings gachikois and unicorns in numbers. Hence why I am off the electric fence between viewer and streamer that none should pass or touch.
@Solus749 come on, mascots and other stuff are fun and entertaining. Should we really reject it because some people have a weak mental health? It sounds the same for me as total rejecting spices because some people have stomach deseases, or rejecting whole game industry because some people getting too into it
I agree. Normal streamers also name their communities. It's just easier to do in the vtuber community because you have a crafted design and persona. You're not just a guy or girl with a camera playing games so you have a lot of things to pull from.
@@michaelevans1547 not when parasocial takes over sorry but that needs to be fenced off and if the entire vtuber fandom is known for parasocial aspects it needs to be toned down.
Not everything vtubing took from idol culture is a boon

It's also canon that takodachi can change into any form...from beanbags to stufftoys to ramen stopper to sleepers to laundry bag name it and it can be a takodachi. It's for WORLD DOMINATION but the laid back kind we still need our kotatsu it's getting colder this days.
the takodachi is almost a complete coppy of a shoggoth, that is completly passefied, so it add up lorewise for them to take any shape, as shoggoths are technicaly formless but yet can be annything in the material universe

It's criminal that the Haaton wasn't mentioned even once. Easily one of the best and most well known Mascots. It's easily one of the, if not THE best HoloJP mascots.
so fucking true, every holo mascot is inspired by haaton even if its just a bit
it represents chamas fanbase so accurately its actually a bit scary
I think (if we're restricting to just HoloJP), the nousagis are arguably both more iconic and have more broad appeal both within and outside the fandom. I'm mostly an EN/ID watcher, but when asked about fangroup mascots, nousagis are at least on my top 5 list, while haatons are _maybe_ in the top 10 at best. Also, in terms of broad appeal, I can see a normie finding a nousagi keychain or facemask or whatever and buying it just because it's cute without knowing what it is or who it's tied to. It has Sanrio-esque appeal. I can't say the same for the haaton. I think _within_ the fanbase, even Korone's koronesuki/listener-san is arguably more famous than the haaton.
EDIT: For clarity, I don't dispute that the people who love the haaton design LOVE the haaton design. But I wouldn't call it the "best and most well known" of the JP mascot designs.
@@dragonbretheren I think a lot of it has to do with Haachama's long absence (welcome back to her btw) diminishing the Haaton's awareness. Like I just had to google what Haaton even looked like 'cause I forgot.
JP got several iconic mascots, like Roboco's Robosa , Akirose's Rosethal , Botan's SSRBs etc
I had to Google the mascot you mention and found out they look like yellow Rosebuds, and agree with the comment of before, nousagis are among the best JP mascost as I don't watch any JP liver but could easily recognize them! Honestly all mascost are cool, it's nice to have an image
One detail I think you missed is how much the Vtubers content itself can make the mascot make or break.
Just pick the most memorable one, Tako desing is great don't get me wrong, but what made it catch on was definitely how often Ina herself drew it in her streams. As Ina is a great artist and does a lot of drawin streams, this happened naturally. Be it the emotes, random doodles or addition on the mascot in official art, Ina's tallent and content itself was what propelled Takodachi to become the absolute icon it is today.
Looking at some other successful examples, Smoll Ame was a great meme, but snowballed into a mascot when Ame herself made models based on it (and eventually the entire first batch of EN's 3d model in that artstyle), showing her talent that is good ideas and innovation
Calli's "deadbeats" are an interesting case, because back at the start they looked like a flop, only being relevant when Calli pused "reaper sensei" reaaaally hard. But then it all started to turn around when the skelingtons started appearing more and more in her music videos, which are the highlight of Calli's skills as tallent, and now Skeletons (deadbeats) are as much of a identity thing as "Shrimps"
It's also why Bloop flopped, Gura didn't have any use for it as her early boom was a lot more "normal streamer" + karaoke vibes, Bloop was slowly forgot as a "pet" mascot and replaced by Simp, I mean, Shrimps.
Also, Takodachis had an extreme stroke of luck where their basic bouncing animation just happened to sync up PERFECTLY with Ina’s waiting screen music from the get go.
It fits so well that it became an inseparable part of Ina’s stream, so much so that she hasn’t even bothered changing it at all three years in.
The first thing you see clicking into any Ina stream is a bouncing Tako vibing to that chill music.
the funny thing regarding Calli's mascot is that it later became a separate character, Death-Sensei that helps her keep up with her lore
@@jack90054 I don't think the bounce animations syncing up is luck tho, definitely seems international
@@jack90054I will say with 100% certainty INA made it sync up on purpose
@@JackdotC Nope, because during one of her anniversary streams, she says that it was pure luck that the soundtrack happened to line up near-perfectly with the bouncing animation.
Bijou's Pebbles are an interesting mascot since she had the viewers draw them during her debut and share them online.
you can be your own pebble, while there's an official design, everyone know what a pebble is, each viewer have the idea of a pebble, and they know that pebble = bijou mascot, is brilliant in a sense where you dont need to design anything, everyone is a diferent design, but everyone is a pebble
@@ecthelionalfa
Biboo has a folder to store all her favorite pebble files.
Don't forget about Tako's cousin, SSRB!
I think fan base mascot also work as an object for VTubers to Parasocial back to their fans too.
Like when you talk with your online friends it hard to related to them if they has no avatar.
But if your friends is in online games you can imagine them as the character they played.
The same for VTubers they can’t recognize everyone so they give them a mascot so the VTuber don’t feel like they talking to themselves but a cute mascot on the screen.
(Also the same that Marine doesn’t make a mascot because she said she can’t lewd those cute mascot lol)
TBF generic red stripe shirt pirate crewman has become a fairly ubiquitous representation of her fans.
The sales of Magmite plushies if Magni remained a little longer... It was probably one of the most anticipated one due to how many wanted to commit cute aggression on that little fella (me included).
Ina's Takodachi mascot is by far my favorite. The design is so cute, simple and yet so effective. Even more so when you know that a Takodachi infiltrated Yagoos office. That, is true power right there.
It helps that Ina and the Takos make up stories for them on the fly and treat the stories as cannon. Just look at the recent saga of Jim from accounting
@@kusanagi54321 Jim was one of the best of us. He truly lived for the WAH.
There’s also the ever expanding lore of Yuyu the KDTD, who managed to infiltrate the Ninomae household and gets sit on by Ane-nis

We kenzokus are kind of in a weird place when it comes to mascots. We love Bibi in both it's base and hat from but outside of our community no one really knows about him or that he's Towa sama's hat
We will know when the next Holocure is out. Other than Bibi, we don't really have a mascot. They might just use the generic black devil imp from 3D and Hologra.
I'm a simple tako: I see a fellow takodachi, and I click.
What I enjoy the most is that Ina is always willing to give some info about takodachis' features and skills. Ask her anything about them, and you will receive another fine piece of tako lore. That makes takodachis have the most complete lore-wise of all branches combined.
We are so back Takodachis
UNDEFEATED 😂
You gave a perfect description of me and my fellow Takdachis.
Mascot tier list when? Also you forgot about Botan's SSRB, just as iconic as takodachis. The three S tier mascots that come to mind are Usagis, SSRB and Takodachis.
Even though it is Vshojo. Zentreyas Geckos are a great mascot. Even though they're not like normal mascots like Hololive ones.
bro! the Geckos are fantastic no caveats required
I think that one important way you make mascots meaningful is adding them to the emotes of the channel, having the feeling that you are expressing yourself as the mascot itself. I really really like Poko Rakun's mascot, the Fandits, since I can easliy insert myself as one with how silly looking and versatile he is. You need to play the mascot as a cute joke, else it won't work!
MY favourite is the OG, Ankimo. Dude is the icon of hololive mascots, and him following sora's tracing is funny and cute. That mascot jokingly got labelled as Sora's rival whenever he appears on stage with her.
Ankimo does have its own channel lol.
Also, while Ankimo is Sora's mascot I am pretty sure she also has a separate mascot to represent the Soratomo, does she not?
@@gokbay3057 yeah, but he's the first, and when he appears in Sora's concerts, the fans go mad with bear emojis.

Recently played HoloCure. Interesting how many mascots there is, even some I never saw before like the Stickman one.
You should do a tierlist. Would be FUN-
Hope next about, "Oshi Mark". and history of Oshi Mark..
The takodachi has been there from day 1. It has been on her opening screen from debut, to current day. I know a lot of people like it when you change your opening/ending screens a lot, but I like that she only ever made a single change, and it was just to add some particle effects.
The takodachi being there on all of her content helps make it a very memorable mascot.
Mascots is a presence of your fans and audience
Couldn't agree more; I feel like the fan-mascot specifically is one of the most impactful tools of memorability a Vtuber has.
35P's marching to war with Mikodanye as general to be the most iconic Holo Mascot
I have a mascot (which i spent months designing) planned for my vtubing but hes gonna be different from most of how vtubers have them used, still mine will be amazing for how much ive spent designing him and how differently ill use what most use them for.
The Takodachi design is so good that tons Holo mascots since then are heavily influenced by it, in terms of the simplicity and blob-like shape. The Saplings, the Jailbirds, Pero, the Pebble Personas etc.
The thing is takodachis are made by the priestess, so of course takodachis are very powerful.
The lack of Koronesuki being show cased.. a mascot that made it i to a mainstream game as a preorder bonus... is big sads..
Ok but seriously, I bought the Takodachi plushie just so I could have a Takodachi to hug whenever I want lol
They just _look_ huggable, you know?
Takodachis are so effective as a mascot. Saplings and nousagis are definitely top tier designs, but the takodachi have such a clear advantage of being creative on the chat's part. They can be any shape and design as long as they have that fun chill face and are purple with swiggle toes. Long takodachis, short takodachis, big takodachis, muscular shaped takodachis, beanbag takodachi, furniture takodachis, snealy takodachis, so many takodachi that the creative expression of chat allows uniqueness while still following ina. It is ingenious design and adaptability.
takodachis and KFP gets lots of love
I think that has to do with how involved each of those mascots are with the lore that the vtubers themselves actively use. KFP (lore-wise) aren't fans, but employees in Kiara's various businesses, and takodachis are formed as the end result of watching too much Ina. Both naturally fit into pretty much anything that can be a background element for any occasion, and so they naturally stay relevant moreso than other mascots that are more circumstantial in use.
Koronesuki is top tier mascot design.
Very punchable, very good 👍
It's most relatable. Just people being happy in general
Hosoinu is #2 mascot design.
it sells merch = stonks
every expo Hololive is in, sheez it's like a storm passed by with all stocks out
you can barely get a takodachi plush even online
I feel this soo much ‘sold out’ 😢
Another example of a provided corporate mascot that I think worked out well is Pero for FuwaMoco. They gave him his own sort of "personality" and made him the butt of jokes, and it felt really organic.
Depressed nousagi is not biased at all in this matter.
I think my favorite mascot has to be the aloupeeps. something about them is so cute and interesting
I really like these kinds of videos, your insight is always interesting. Keep it up!
Millies hat 🎉
As a Tachodachi and an Elfriend..... i can related a lot here... especially about summons... given Flare's 'creepy old man' .. who... .never appears anymore... and has been completely replaced with the elfriend.
My favorite Mascot is Suisei's one. Hoshiyomi's design being a Samurai is a little shocking, since Suisei is a comet, but the fact that it's the only mascot that ended up being a Streamer too is something really surprising.
FuwaMoco are pros from the start pushing Pero as part of the unit, that fluff ball appears on both Advent promos before debut, in their debut, had his own FWMC Morning, his own small segment in FWMC and has such and adorable design coupled with a fun personality : D
Simple designs can go along way
If fans accept a mascot as their representative, then I think there’s also a self adoption of how the mascot is depicted which works as a vibe check for chat.
omg I love Mac Tonight. If McDonalds ever makes a vtuber they should absolutely make Mac Tonight.
Yeah... Mumei pretty much disowned Friend at this point. Meanwhile, GuyRyS is awesome despite being a stick figure. Probably my favorite mascot after Merakyat. And then there's conceptual mascot. Hoshiyomi don't have a form, as Sui-chan never gave them any, but that backfired, as now they are a concept of insane thirst. Or simply put, Takeshi.
bruh she had Friend in her 3d showcase, she obviously cared enough to have it be modeled and featured prominently for that special occasion,
@@goleogthais Does she have a say in that matter? It's part of her kit, but I remember her being like "yeah, Friend, nobody cares" when playing Holocure.
GuyRyS is also very hardcore, since he only drives in reverse. So IRyS had to take the wheel in her 3D Showcase.
It's a shame she didn't incorporate friend more into her branding and content, I think the design is super cute and versatile.
I always thought that Mumei not caring about friend was sorta intentional. As a joke or whatever. Every sitcom has that character that shows up and No one wants them around.
Suisei’s mascot is Iroha so it’s fine 😌
Gran Turismo 4 music wow you have great taste!
Then there is Fubuki with a whole pokedex o mascots
In marketing you're selling the experience first and then the product
The Takodachi mascot is a genius creation.
I do love this. It does show some evolution of mascots over the years.
Where Gura was going to call her fanbase the shrimps, but that would be to close to simps and for some reasons that was banned. So she went with Chumbuddies instead and still depicted as shrimps/ebi afterall 😂. Poor Bloop was soon forgotton 😂. While Shylily didn't care and just would use shrimps and call them shrimps as they are, knowing it would be a wordplay on simps 😂.
Same with Kiara who has an orange bird as het mascot, but swiftly instead used the KFP chickens employees after debut.
Even Ina has her mascot that's a book (and sometimes a tablet) being AO-chan, the ancient one. But the takodachi swiftly gained popularity on how easy it was drawn and how versitile Ina would use her Takodachi mascots. From plushies like Yuyu and ramen container stoppers/ which can also just be a figurine, to designs on a laundry bag and many more.
I'm definitely not addicted to Holocure, I only have 150 hours since Steam launch and a ton more prior to that. Yes, copium tastes good, I'm glad you asked.
A video talking about cute and adorable mascots. A refreshing video that o need. Thanks DP , have a nice day 👍
Looking at the Takodachi’s it’s possible the design actually affects their personalities, its laid back appearance just makes you want to be laid back.
I think it a telling sign of a good mascot when I want to buy Takodachi merch and use takodachi emotes when I don't even watch Ina
Using Mac Tonight near the end while discussing the general concept of mascots was a very bold choice when you know how bad that turned out
I know you watch mostly EN vtubers but c'mon where is the japanese mascot representations? Missed opportunity for Ssrbs, Koronesukis, Nousagis, Haatons, etc
Agreed. SSRBs, Nousagis, and Haatons are great. Koronesukis though? A bit too crude for mainstream marketing though. Too much of an “inside joke” for lack of better words. Holostars’ Magmites is also great.
@@gurugurumawaru7869 Yeah, Koronesukis are great and iconic but probably not marketing material.

I believe Ina designed all the Myth mascots. And she had one idea in mind - make them as round-ish as possible, so they could be turned into a good plushie. And as an added bonus, the round shape is very flexible for use in a wide variety of merch.
Another really, really good one that rivals the takodatchi : the SSRB
Nice hotline miami 2 OST by the end of the video.

It's just an amazing way to give the audience a conceptual identity aside from just, "chat."
There's nothing more friendly and feeling included than that. Just all-aroubd fun stuff
I noticed that giving the viewer base a name also helps in conversation during collabs or when talking about someone. Using "my viewers" vs "your viewers" is implicitly divisive, while referring to them by a name allows for inclusivity when the audiences overlap. It may also earn the vtuber bonus points with the other's audience if he/she demonstrates familiarity by refering to them by name.

I just realized, doesn't Ina have two mascots then? There's the takodachi and there's the AO-chan book.
Saving, not killing, it's in the title...
Haaton should have been mentioned. Their design is more accurate to the fanbase than Takodachis. Yellow pigs resembling Pikachu, both cute and gross. And her fans are exactly that: Falling in love with the her because she vomited, spraying their faces with water when she sneezes and going 'Buhi Buhi!' when she talks about her thighs sweating or feet being smelly. All of which mirrors the uniquely crazy experience of Haachama's streams themselves. What is more accurate than cute pigs? (and what other creature could eat her cooking)
Also no other Holomem has made a song about their fans to the level of Haachama's 'BUTA'.
'Aqutan no koto suki sugi☆song' is a song about Aqua. 'Deadbeats' is a song mostly about Mori herself.
'BUTA' is a song about Haaton culture, that's not even necessarily meant to be understood by one else, it's an in-joke, a shared reference, from her, to us.
Hololive made mascots because it was a fun idea including Ankimo. It focus on a young audience.
