One thing that works really well is to soak it in hot water and espresso machine cleaner (Cafiza or similar, it's like 15 bucks for a big bottle of powder that will last for years). It's specifically made to clean and sanitize spots you can't reach or clean physically and to be washed off without residue. It gets rid of all the grease (it's made to clean partly polymerized coffee oils) and dissolves almost anything, except plastic and metal. It's also perfect for keeping rubber seals and gaskets squishy and clean. It's a game changer for so many kitchen hygiene problems, in my opinion.
If you don't mind, what is your set up to clean with the cafiza product... do you just soak the lid?
@@PandaLAG I just put some boiling water and Cafiza in a bowl and soak the lid for maybe half an hour
thank you! thank you! thank you!
@@filmcapacitor Thank you! That is brilliant.
Appreciate you for this
I run very hot water into the lid after each use. I "flood" the cavity in there so to speak, I do not let anything dry in, or on the lid before washing, rinse it all out. I then just pull the gasket every single time and wash in hot soapy water as normal. So far so good. It blows my mind that people don't know you can pull the gasket out each time!
I use my waterpik teeth flosser and works great. Anything with a gasket will have a similar issue.
Cleaning your Ninja Creami
Clean Removable Parts:
After eating your dessert - Dissemble and clean paddle, outer bowl lid, remove o-ring from under outer bowl lid, pint container and outer bowl with warm soapy water and brushes in basin; then use fine brush on the 3 port openings on the top of the outer bowl lid; then rinse with water all parts or put in top shelf of dishwasher
Cleaning the Shaft:
1) Clean the exposed shaft by wiping with dishcloth, then scrub shaft with soapy brush and rinse with clean water dishcloth
2) Install outer bowl (without inner bowl)
3) Power On / Select full bowl / Select Mix-in
4) When the paddle blade reaches the bottom of the bowl unplug the Ninja Creami
5) Unlock the bowl and dislodge the paddle
6) Clean the extended shaft with soapy brush and rinse with clean water brush
7) Plug Ninja Creami back in and shaft retracts
8) Install inner bowl fill water to fill mark and add 1 drop Dawn
9) Power On / Select full bowl / Select Mix-in
10) Install inner bowl and add water to fill mark / Power On / Select full bowl / Select Mix-in
Cleaning Complete
Note: For added cleaning all removable parts are top shelf dishwater safe.
Rinse the lid with the blade still IN the cap before removing the lid. If you remove the blade while there is still residue, the residue will find it's way in.
Remove your ice cream from the pint container. Rinse, then add dish soap and water. Put lid on and put back into the cremi machine. Process the soapy water, which will clean the piece that comes down. Can't get the housing, but this should take care of most of the issue. Basically, the creami cleans itself.
Which setting do you process the soapy water? I thought only frozen things should be processed in the creami.
@@smilechynwa add mixture
@@smilechynwa Although I have never made a milkshake in one, I know you can do that, and milkshakes are kind of liquid.
This will damage your machine and void the warranty
That would be lovely, but the creamy does NOT clean itself. The method you drscribe helps cleaning the container, the knigr and the rod, but everything screwed together it doesn't (the inside connection where the knife screws onto tge rod for example, or the inside of the lid).
There is a bit of solution.
I saw on the Facebook Ninja Creami page.
Right where the latch is to remove the blade is a small hole. Run hot water through this hole and will spew out the sides thru 2 smaller holes.
This should be doing a better rinse of the inside is what i read
Thanks for pointing this out.
You missed another SERIOUS design flaw. The shaft that spins, holds the blade and moves up and down CANNOT be cleaned. It definitely has contact with the contents being mixed. And the shaft cannot possibly be properly cleaned and sanitized. There is likely mold building up inside the Creami. The inside is dark and has no air circulation, a perfect breeding ground for mold.
I had a Creami and contacted Ninja TWICE about this - they never got back to me either time.
On a Facebook Creami group I belonged to, someone who had opened up his Creami stated that there was mold growing inside his Creami - no surprise. I stopped using it and went with a traditional ice cream maker with a built-in freezing system. I am much happier with it. It is easier to use, faster, easy to properly clean and sanitize. Absolutely no concerns about mold!
The Creami gives good results, but its numerous design flaws make it an undesirable appliance IMHO.
what about each time after use put some warm/hot water and washing up liquid and use milkshake function to bring the shaft down to clean both? just an idea
Biggest flaw. You can't have access to the compartment where the shaft is. So, for sure particles of food will rot inside the machine and it will have contact with the next receipt you make. So, I've been using for a month here in Brazil, and I realized it's a desgusting machine. 😢

You are absolutely correct!
My ninja creami never smells, you have to hold the gray slider open so that the hole is as wide as can be and run water through thst.
I have had my Ninja Creami (deluxe model) for about 8 months now and use it most every day. It never smells and is not hard to keep clean. Why is my experience so different from yours? Perhaps it is the way I use the machine. I never fill it to the max line, but usually about three quarters of the way full. The lid generally accumulates ice cream on the exposed parts but never on the inside. Usually I don't even need to remove the gasket for cleaning. Where I do get residue is immediately around the shaft at the center of the lid. I have a very small brush to remove that residue. It just takes an extra minute (I wash the assembly by hand) and I can visibly see whether I have gotten it clean (or not).
I make up my own recipes so they vary from partly full to over full. When there is too much mix, I just put the extra in any old freezer suitable container and add it back in (melted) when the container is partly empty. We are a family of two and never finish a whole container at once anyway. Maybe that is my saving grace. I hope you have found a solution for your problem. The Creami is such a blessing for us.
I think some of the issues may have been fixed by the Ninja Creami Breeze. I haven’t experienced the same issues so far. But my machine is pretty new. They should have a ‘cleaning cycle’ or button.
I just bought a breeze and it broke already. There’s a flaw that the blade keeps falling off. They are sending me a different one. I like the design of the breeze better but not if it doesn’t work.
I drilled (2) 7/32 drain holes on the other side of the top. on the same surface as the existing drain holes. Now there is 4 big drain holes. A waterpick tip fits perfectly in the hole and allows me to give it a super clean if things get really messy.
Is that safe to do without messing it up?
did a google on it and several said to use their Waterpik and shot water into the 3 holes and to take the seal out... and soak it in vinegar solution
As a person with an extreme mold allergy, I agree the lid on my Ninja Creami is nearly impossible to clean thoroughly and I hesitate to use it for that reason. I’m glad to see comments indicating that the lid in the Ninja Breeze doesn’t have this problem. I would love to see what that lid is like on the Breezy to see if it is just an improvement on the old version or if the issue is truly resolved.
Now you've got me interested. I can't resist the challenge. I was undecided until I saw this video, now I have to get one. I refuse to be defeated; I love your review, and I love the comments for possibilities. Personally, I'm a big fan of baking soda for cleansing purposes (humans and objects). I wonder if there is any compatibility here . . . . . . .
I have the Creami Breeze which is easier to clean and I also use a straw cleaner for the hole.
I have an original model and I never have these issues. Immediately after use I wipe the metal downshaft. Then separate all lid components and rinse under running water. A normal soapy hot water sink brief soak, wash and rinse finishes the job. Squeaky clean and never any unpleasant odour.😢
There's a new Creami out and they've changed the lid. A lot easier to clean now!
Im from Germany and wanted to buy one. They always had and still have only one machine on sale here. Do you happen to know if this one is using the lid you are referring to?
@@berlinaroidsThe one they're referring to has now been discontinued.
@@kay9156 thanks a lot for the info! I happened to buy a deluxe now 🙏
I have a Ninja Blender with the same problem. I haven't used it in almost a year because it's so hard to clean (especially the lid) and often smells. Furthermore, the blades are on a tall stalk, so contents splatter everywhere during the blending process. Typically, everything is supposed to whirlpool to the bottom for more efficient blending. I should have just saved up for a Vitamix.
After use I immediately rinse while blade is still attached, then remove blade and clean with sponge. From the bottom and on top this keeps it sealed. No issues yet, but I have the deluxe model which has a port hole exposed when the blade is removed and drain holes. You can shoot water throught he port hole and out the drain holes. Not sure if the older 7 in 1 has the same. Maybe drill holes in the top so can rinse and drain the residue.
2:35 . Silicone gaskets absorb odors and it's very difficult to remove them. I have the same problem with the silicone gasket in my Instant Pot. The only thing I found to get rid of the smell in the Instant Pot is to steam eggs.
Thx for pointing this out, it really is a deal breaker for me. 👍🏼
It's really not an issue..
While running a container of water I noticed some old chocolate dried on the rod. How do you get to that rod to clean just continue to run batches of water? Several design flaws to this machine.
Along with your normal cleaning routine, perhaps consider a final rinse with cool water with some freshly made chlorine dioxide (Cl02). It is a safe disinfectant (hikers use it to purify creek water).
You can either buy the 2-Part solution from an outdoors store (i.e. REI or even Walmart may still stock it). It is cheaper in larger quantities online. Equal drops of Part A and Part B - swish and ready to add to water in about 30 - 40 seconds.
Hiya. Upon investigation. I found the rubber type ring comes out with help of a kitchen rounded end knife or even a flat head screwdriver. There are three gaps on the inner plastic ring. For access.
I don't know if you can get Baby bottle and equipment sanitizer ? If it doesn't taste bad to a baby. The ice cream should be ok. Or even beer kit sanitizer. Kills al known germs and once rinsed. No taste. Just a thought. Sanitizer with dairy products. Good idea ??
I agree, this is a terrible flaw! I forgot to clean mine, went away on a little vacation and now, it's completely unusable. So I have reordered two new lids. I can't wait for them to arrive as I miss my ice creams! I will keep looking at the best ways to keep this silly lid clean! thanks for posting your video!
This was probably intentional so you have to keep ordering more lids.
May I suggest a cake icing tip brush? The Wilton brand has a tiny brush on one end and a pipe cleaner type brush on the other. It will be able to get into the crevices.
If you have a sous vide immersion circulator, I would recommend trying it in a vinegar/water solution and running it. Should help when it gets nasty.
How does the shaft that moves up and down get cleaned?? It stays inside the machine when you take out the container and blade, but it DEFINITELY has food particles on it, and because it's spinning the food particles are spun into the housing of the machine. Is there a way to clean this??
So is it hollow and the residue is getting inside the plastic lid or can this simply be solved by removing the gasket and using a straw cleaner?
FYI - The new deluxe model
had drainage vent added to the lid, so not experiencing this at all.
Can you clean the rod that is in the machine?
I love ours but I think the grossest thing is the nub that connects to the blade. It’s kind of a pain to clean and I can see in your video that yours also has red crud caked up on it. I try to spray mine with all purpose cleaner and wipe it well after each use. I’ve not had a problem with the lid. I wash it on the top rack of my dishwasher. Comes out fine.
I would use just soap and water. You'll be eating what ever you put on that shaft as the ice cream often goes onto the shaft during the spinning process.
To clean the nub, after each use, I just put hot water from faucet and run a respin. That seems to clean the nub out. I switch from chocolates to fruit base, so I have to re-spin with hot water after each use. Yes, you have to order an extra canister but it’s worth it.
@@practicalguy973 that’s what I’m saying. The nub I clean after every use and I can only imagine what the shaft looks like that stays hidden in the unit until it’s actually running.
@@defleppal Yeah that is a bad design if the full shaft is getting in the food and then it hides inside the unit and you cant clean it, I'm just saying you dont want to eat all purpose cleaners either. Something like dish soap that is commonly used on cups and dishes would be healthier. With mine its only the end of the nub that seems to have anything on, 1 cm up the shaft remains clean and there is always a large hole down the center of whatever recipe I've spun where the shaft would be. I'd be curious to look at the shaft though but there isn't a way to do that without surgery lol.
@@practicalguy973 I make my all purpose cleaner. It’s ok to consume
Imo, the worst design flaw is the blade connection itself. The blade pops off a lot. I had to replace one whole creami machine already and I have only had it since last Christmas. The new machine, blade started popping off again. I am always careful and make sure the container frozen containers flat. That makes me not want to use the creami. I’m always just waiting for it to pop off. You have to be quick with turning it off or the piston shaft thing will keep driving forward and shred metal off the fallen blade.
I wonder if you can freeze some water with vinegar or baking soda or a little soap to clean the shaft?
Same exact problem with the ninja bullet. Can't clean under the gasket. They tell you not to remove it. But if it comes off, you'll see mold and food buildup under it. Sick. Ninja, do better
Not sure if it's been suggested, but would adding a dishwasher tablet to the boiling water work and be safe for the parts? It works wonders for cleaning our hummingbird feeders and other stuff. (Use tablets specifically not the liquid pouches.) The tablet does all the work! Soak for about 20 mins and rinse.😊
Well have you tried to clean the lid above the air fryer element, on the attatched lid on the Ninja Foodi? Another impossible to clean area.
Add hot water to the fill line and small bit of soap and run the machine as you would if you were making ice cream, this will help get into the areas that are hard to get at.
Great idea!!!
Oh no.
I'm conflicted about this one.
I've read so much on the Facebook Ninja Creami page that you should not do it.
But I definitely want to!
Let us know if it worked okay please.
Let it sit a lot longer so it has time to loosen more residue. Also, the Ninja blenders have a similar design flaw where residue gets trapped under the seal and smells horribly. If you don’t remove the seal to clean it, it mildews.
She included the gasket problem in the vid, or are you talking about a diff part?
Is this the same in the Ninja Creami Deluxe model?
I put power wash Dawn I have no problem with my cover. Try it....
Design flaw has just prevented me from buying it! Thanks 🙏🏽 for commentary!!
Yea, I saw a maggot on mine. I am very thorough with cleaning. I'm so disgusted I can't even use it anymore.
Is it better not filling it?
I would try using a home brewer cleaner (beer making) cleaner. It doe’s great for bacreria and odors and it’s food grade. Any home brew site/store has it and not expensive.
I sling mine in the dishwasher, no problems so far 👍
Great to hear, I just ordered one.
Tried running it with water and washing up liquid?
I thought the lid would be an issue, if you have an espresso machine, can you try steam blasting with the steam wond?
Or use a syringe with a fine nozzle to inject water into it?
Having to actually clean something rather than just rinsing it when you use dairy is just a way of life not a design flaw lol
That’s not what she’s saying at all. You missed the whole point.
@@kar0047 Yeah I guess I must have missed the part where she actually cleaned it rather than rinsing it.
@@kiraevony she’s literally saying that if you don’t take off every single piece and soak it in boiling water multiple times (EVERY TIME YOU USE IT) then it is not getting clean. Do you do that every time you use a blender, an air fryer, an immersion blender? I don’t take my appliances apart to wash them after every use cuz that’s ridiculous and shouldn’t be needed. I wash in warm soapy water with a dish brush like normal person, that should suffice for the ninja creami lid just like the ninja blender lids/blades but that’s NOT the case. Again, you’re missing the point. but I believe that you were just choosing to do so for funsies lol.
I don’t think having to spend a little time cleaning my lid renders the appliance flawed. And removing and cleaning the gasket as an after thought kind of says it all. Remove the gasket, clean the lid with a brush. Put it in the dishwasher if needed. End of story.
@@kar0047You wouldn't have to do all that if you cleaned it in the first place. I clean everything I use every time I use it because FOOD gets stuck on anything if you don't clean it. Every time, all the time. I don't even understand how people get their mixture up and on the outside of that gasket anyway. I have never had that issue... Sounds like over filling.
The instructions in the booklet that came with the creami place the top in the dishwasher on the top rack
Wow, thanks for the heads up. Yes, Ninja should have designed it better!!
Super useful information. Thank you!😊
Its not that big if an issue lol i have zero issues cleaning mine
What if you put some hot water and either vinegar or Dawn in the pint and ran it on the creami. Maybe the agitation would help clean it. Just a thought
To clean it right and make sure you don't get food poisoning, you need to buy the Ninja Creami Delux Cleaning machine. 😂
One other issue : how to you clean the rod / shaft ?
You can mix water and venegar with the unit and the seal can remove some dirt... but you can not physically acces to the rod.
I just immediately take the lid off after spinning my ice cream and run it under hot water. cleans it for the most part, not like a deep clean but it gets the job done.
Oh no , and i recently ordered a ninja creami , i hope u find a good solution for this AND make a video about this solution also , or just an update somewhere! Thx for the info anyway!
Why wouldn't you remove the gasket every time you cleaned it?
Very valid point about the gross and UNSANITARY issue. Let’s just get sick and be clueless to how and why....
I guess I won’t be buying one. If I have to go through this long process every time, it’s a no go.
If you take the blade out after every use and run water over it without letting anything dry on it it comes clean easy enough I've been using mine for weeks and not had a problem
It's not an issue... The Creami is the best kitchen product I've ever bought!
@@zoeymonks9264 good food for thought. Speedy rinsing really makes a difference on all dishes. It does make sense to apply same quick rinse here. Ty for the reminder.
If you rinse everything off immediately (don't enjoy your ice cream first) with hot water you shouldn't have any issues.. Plus looks like you're not wiping off the metal nub that inserts into the lid.. You MUST wipe that off with a damp towel after every use.. I AM curious how the rod gets clean though..They say it's self cleaning, but I would like to know exactly how it self cleans...
Yes, I did dawn, hot water and vinegar and used a small brush and let soak for about 30 minutes. Yes, I saw all the stuff in water. I thought I was doing a good job cleaning after each use. But, I guess not!
Thank you now i will wait to see what the Breeze has done because this is no bueno for me much appreciated!
On another channel, someone suggested using a water flosser to clean the lid out. I haven't had a need to tried that yet.
I'd love to know how to get a replacement lid. I don't think is ever but another creami till they fix this horrible lid.
Does the Ninja Breeze have the same design flaw?
Very often there is liquid that is on the counter after it is used. It smells like sour milk. Does anyone else have this problem?
A little bit of white vinegar in your bowl of water would help more…
Just bought a Ninjia Creami. I'm wondering if it safe to put water in a pint container and run a cycle like you was making ice cream? I am just thinking this is gonna drive me nuts!!😅
I'm wondering that as well.
Although I understand, I would be very concerned with using boiling water on plastic as it will warp or distort the lid to where it may not function properly.
What if you ran a cycle with your ninja creamy but only with maybe some Dawn dish soap, just a little and hot water?
No comment about the rod that spins the blade that retracts up into the base???
Thank you! I have that problem too and it is so frustrating.
I am also concerned about the gunk that goes up via the center rod into the machine itself. There is no way to access it!
Where do I find the recipes and videos shown at 0:27??
Best food processor for chopping vegetables?
Clean with ole toothbrush in white vinegar and v warm water
Hydrogen Peroxide and compressed air to clear it all out.
It's worse than you think! Much worse! The steel rod that drives the paddle to the bottom of the container, goes back into the machine after every use. When was the last time it was cleaned? Answer: NEVER!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
soak it in distilled vinegar for a few hours...
Operator error here... Just clean PROPERLY after every use and you'll never have a problem. It's not "clean" if you're allowing your food to build up over time. I flip the lid immediately after use and soak in warm soapy water immediately after every use and wipe the machine down completely as well. So I clean it!
No design flaw, sorry but hilariously epic mega KAREN moment! Good luck!
I use some dish and bottle brushes of different sizes to clean it.
Pipe cleaner ? Than take the gasket off and put it in the dishwasher
What about a water pic we usually use for our teeth?
This is such an over exaggeration. The lid is perfectly easy to clean, as long as you do it straight away and fully submerge it to “flood” the inside part 🙄
Who says the fact they have to clean a good appliance after using it is a pain for goodness sake. Utterly ridiculous
Use white vinegar with the hot water
Yes, if you don't have a dishwasher, take the gasket off then use a small kitchen brush and the vinegar solution and give them both the once over. No boiling, also clean the mixing nub with the solution.
Well, you have made up my mind. NOPE. Thank you.
I hope not,bc I definitely don't have the same problem with mine, but I have the Ninja Creami Breeze, and it's been amazing and use it every day and or night, also you can take the blade off of the lid,put both and pints in the dishwasher and they come out clean as can be..
Omg I just got a breeze, its not transparent underneath at all, you can't see if anything is trapped. Now I'm PARANOID.
I haven’t had issues with my creami breeze. But I have been using it mostly for sorbet.
Just rinse it with hot water as soon as it finishes churning. Easy.
i cant even find this on amazon anymore
Not dishwasher proof?
You cleaned the o-ring but did not clean out the 3 port openings on the outer bowl lid. See my instructions below. You have to use fine brushes inserted into the 3 port openings to dislodge and residue in the outer bowl lid. Then rinse the port openings under running sink water or use a water pic to clean. Really though, the worst design flaw of this product is that the shaft retracts after your desert is finished. Although there is a seal that the shaft passes before it retracts back into the machine - bacteria will not be stopped by the seal. I provided instructions below how to clean the shaft.
That’s not the biggest flaw. Think about the rod that goes back in the machine you can’t access.
Use a toothbrush and a straw cleaner. Soak in hot soapy water and add vinegar
Try using your Water Pic Tooth cleaner down in that shaft hole, I bet that will clean it well.
that is why the commercial "Pacojet" does not have a lid
I noticed that issue with the lid, It actually holds water for a long time after washing since there is no air flow in that circle spring mechanism. I was thinking about drilling a small hole in the top of the lid in that area as a drain/air hole where the spring mechanism is. I haven't done it yet but I'm pretty handy and I want there to be a way for soap and water to rinse better where the shaft and blade sit and for it to dry. That is important for bacteria control.
From an engineering perspective that hole would need to be on the outside part of the lid and to the outside circumference of the spring area to work correctly. Also using a vacuum and ensuring no plastic bits end up inside the mechanism when drilling.
How did you go about it
I returned mine, unused! I wasn't paying $200 for something that is difficult (especially that Spindle), to clean... we're dealing with DAIRY😮
There's ANOTHER issue in a video and the comments support his concern...WATCH OUT!
I hope you reach out to Ninja with this video. I'd like to know what their response is.
They should recall the lids. Absolute health hazard. Disgusting
