  • Jeep Car Camping Overland Style - Lost Bunker Found
    Another Jeep Overland Car Camping adventure exploring the Central Oregon Desert.
    This trip was all about trying to track down a lost bunker that I stumbled across something like 10 years before this trip. I also wanted to search out the area for a couple old historic homestead sites and see if I could track down a prohibition era illegal whiskey still site.
    Along the way I share the adventure, the amazing off road trails I travel, some of my overlanding gear and car camping set up, and anything else interesting I come across along the way.
    Hope you enjoy!

    Your channel keeps getting better my friend. Some great photography in this film. The shot of the Jeep riding into the night with the sun setting in the background was epic! I enjoy learning about the Oregon history too. That bunker could be modified into a survival shelter if need be. My favorite line, "I'm going to bring my rifle because I can" Love it!

    Casey , that bunker is strongly reminiscent of an Explosives Bunker , for either Dynamite or Black Blasting Powder . The shelving inside would keep the Explosives up off the ground so that they don't wick up moisture from the soil . The rock wall in front of the entrance is a blast deflector in case of an accidental explosion . Suggest you check surrounding areas for Mining activity , but Explosives could also have been used by Farmers / Ranchers for blowing out tree stumps . --

    Hi I have a Tacoma 2016 offroad. It has good ground clearance but 16 inch wheels. Kinda puny next to the 17s. Now I wish I had 17inch and the taco lifted several more inches. It is however OK for Michigan winters. I have found little open country here and none that compares to that high plains. The best I can do is get out to our great lake islands for a look at the milky way. The stars got to be fabulous there. I love to hear coyotes at night. PLEASE ADVISE!!

    My guess...the Bunker is an old Range Riders Cache. They would stock them with food and gear and lock em up so no one could get into their supplies. They would have spare ammo, food, blankets, tack etc. The rock wall to help spot it from a distance on horseback, and as a wind break to keep snow from drifting into the entrance. Range Riders would ride open range land rounding up stray cattle and horses. They would sometimes stay out on the range for weeks at a time. Most of the western states still have Range Rider Associations.

    I laughed at people questioning the reason for you carrying firearms. Lol.
    Keep doing what you're doing Casey. America needs more gun owners to promote the Second Amendment.

    • @CoyoteWorks01
      @CoyoteWorks01  5 лет назад +44

      I think you are way over thinking the whole firearms thing my friend. We show our guns because we enjoy them. The same way a guy who likes nice audio video equipment shows his friends at a party. The same way a guy who is proud of his sports car wants people to see it. It’s no different for those of us who enjoy owning and using firearms. Why when it comes to firearms do all you people insist on attaching some deeper sinister conspiracy to it. It’s like you are just determined to think of those of us who own guns as some kind of lesser humans or something.
      On another note, you will never be able to understand the culture out in the area where I live in the west. We live in a very underpopulated area with a lot of wide open country. Most of our area doesn’t have police to protect you or emergency services to come rescue you when you have a problem. Our area is an area of remote ranchers and a small handful of explorers like me traveling through. There is nothing wrong or out of the ordinary about having a gun out in the back country here. Most everyone who live here does. Then you people come here who have no understanding of our culture and try to judge us by your culture and background. And you wonder why people in my area are suspicious of outsiders. How about you practice a little compassion and understanding for a culture that is different than yours? How about you seek to understand a people who are different rather than expecting everyone to adopt your culture, customs, and standards.
      I don’t judge you because you don’t enjoy guns. Why are you judging me because I do?

    • @CoyoteWorks01

      Ha! I know. It’s crazy to me that anyone would feel the need to question that. Thank you for the support my friend. Good to hear from another fellow American!

      @John A You think that several million people, armed to the teeth, couldn't overthrow the government? I beg to differ. The military won't help, as many will not fight their own people; as a matter of fact, most of the military would likely join or sabotage from the inside. They can't use nukes, as the rest of the world would then step in and help the rebels. Historically, about 10%-20% of the population actively participates in a revolution. In the US, that's between 35,000,000 and 70,000,000 people. And we own 101 guns per 100 people on average here, so any rebellion would be armed to the teeth. If you think that 70 million armed people can't take down the government, then I suggest you read up on your history a bit.

      @@frankbrown9618 Please don't hate on the U.S. because the international community can't control the social monstrosity they are. A good share of EU countries are in economical collapse or already failed now demanding financial support. They've done this themselve with their social mechanics. There becomes a time you just got to say no.

    • @camorn256
      @camorn256 5 лет назад +5

      @@jbhk7977 You missed the point of my response, the US didn't cause or make other countries fail any more than junk food is causing major problems for the international community as Mr. Brown has interjected. And from my reading on this comment section your original comment was what started the backlash. You were condescending and rude to Mr. Coyote for doing what he has the right to do under our Constitution, then continued with mocking everone else for having or exposing guns in a way you don't approve of when overlanding or apparently anything else. I'm a nurse that works third shift, I drive over 100 miles in the dark for this in desolate country and I carry my G19 and my AR. There is no help unless it happens to drive by when you need help this includes law enforcement. On top of that I'm not going to be a victim of rape. When you say thing like this their going to attack. You also make mention of our debt, your right it huge and complicated. Let me pose this question, you said in one comment, one good deed doesn't justify all the bad ones? Of course not. Why do you think it was just one? Do you know how much money the US has sent to various countries, including yours to help with getting you up and running after the devastation of hitler or how much money has been sent to European countries since then to now? Or the amounts in food and supplies that the Us send in ships when there are natural disaster to help anywhere on the Earth. I guess what I'm saying we the people send freely trillions of dollars everwhere to countries in need, most of us don't complain and it's been done since before WW1. Would you know how may trillions that might be? I surely don't know? But I would think it's a staggering number and many many times more than the 22 trillion were getting close to. And no this isn't a blame are debt on the world. We give a lot and everone complains and blames why? If you're hostility towards people when you start it are a reflection of your country and the people? That's sad and I'm sorry for you.

    I would think that it looks a lot like an old Powder bunker With the front wall etc to protect from accidental explosion. So I would be looking for mining or other activities where they might need to store Dynamite or Other explosives. With the water drainage and the engineering that is used it just meets the need for all that extra work.

    February 2020 lol. Yes I go back and rewatch videos from the past few years lol. You never know what you might have missed the first couple times you watch a video lol
    This one I noticed something interesting that I didn’t see before. As he’s finishing his driving for the day and pulling into camp after dark (as usual lol) I noticed 4 or 5 sets of eyes shining just on the edge of where his headlights are shining. Not sure what they belong to considering the time of year and how cold it was. Watching the prior videos is kind of like reading a good book more than once, even though you know the story you still enjoy it and you pick up on small things that you didn’t notice the last time you read/watched it.

      I find that it does hold heat better than a single wall tent for sure. But when it gets down below freezing any tent is just going to be cold. But at the end of the day it is still just a tent. Keep me posted on how yours works for you. So far I”m happy with mine.

      Thank you. You know it’s funny you say that because this trip was the first solo trip for me again since before the big group trip. I’d been on three other trips since them but had other guys along with me for each of those next three trips. And don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed the time with those guys. But being back out there solo just reminded me that there is something I just really enjoy about being solo out there. I think at the end of the day the solo trips end up being the most personal and satisfying to me. And honesty I really enjoy the dynamic of being solo and doing my best to video the adventure. I think those solo trips also end up producing some of my best videos.

    Dry & desolate no real natural resources, can't think why they pick the places they did to homestead but it is amazing how many you find. The 2 x 4's in the "bunker" look like modern milling. A late 60's early 70's hippies camp?? Fascinating, fascinating vid, like you said if those old trees could talk. Thanks, again another great video.

      Thank you. Yeah it’s a bit of a mystery to me. But you could be right. Just seems a lot older than that. And they did mill lumber in similar dimensions back around the early 1900s. I’ve seen some of it on other old homesteads. Cheers!

      @@CoyoteWorks01 Milling standards have been around since before world war 1 but that 2x4 I would put money made its way out there post 1950ish.I remodle homes and have seen a fair amount of WW1 and WW2 era framing.Its planed on all four sides after kiln drying with rounded corners.I suspect that the bunker is older than the 2x4 though.I think the bunker had a second life and the door way was redone.I think the metal was used to compnsate for the old log door jam. I love this stuff bud thanks alot! I got addicted in the third grade when I found the old foundation for the first log school in my town.Had to find everything I could about it.Ended up meeting the first school teacher there who was very old too a third grader.

    Every auto transmission vehicle I've had I've added a "big" auto trans cooler in front of the radiator, never had a problem.
    Prolonged heat is what kills a auto transmission.
    I even got 196,000 miles out of a Chevy suburban transmission with out an issue doing this.
    We all know how many friends have had lost a Chevy tranny with low miles.

    Alright Casey, I didn't read the rest of the comments, so I don't know if anyone else said this.
    Firstly, put out your campfires, properly, with some water. Mix it in thoroughly, with the ash and mud , then you can leave. Embers can burn under the surface for months. Even Smokey the Bear will agree with that.
    Second, the next time you search for the Still site, look for the best location that it would've been hidden. The main thing a Still needs isn't wood, it's fresh running water, the colder the better. Wood can be carried in, but water needs to be right there. And it needs to be hidden from everything, so it wouldn't be a top of the hill, more likely at the middle...
    BTW, I should've mentioned first, I really like watching your videos, I've been prepping my SUV for camping better than ever.

    Pretty good chance in your chest pack you have compass and handheld GPS unit as you go equipped.. Now that you have a waypoint of the bunker , next year it will be much easier to locate..
    Where I explore and I find stumps that have been fell with an axe , I start looking as something was built it may be standing or may not.. I have found cabins that way.. Well filmed good job..

    We just started watching your videos. We like to do the same thing, explore the area and learn about who and what was here before us. We live in Southern California but have family in WA so we have traveled through your area a couple times but would love to see more of that area. If you ever get down south, there are some great areas in the desert to explore early settler and prehistoric sites.
    Happy trails!

    I see the red tank on your tire, must be your gas can. There is so much more open land out in your part of the country, here in the east there is very little open public land like that. But yes a pistol and my AR goes with me also even if I am just going out on the gas well roads in eastern Ky.

    In my area of Australia, they used to dig fire shelters, called them dugouts, but judging by all the timber and small size in guessing that isn't what you found. Other option, perhaps they made that as an underground hut for hot weather?

    Several comments deal with, or question, the brief appearance of small lights (some even said they were eyes) in the distance which appear at a several times in the video. What you are seeing is the reflection of the headlights off of reflective tape which was been placed on a barb wire fence. This would indicate a sage grouse lek is or was in the immediate area.

    • @CoyoteWorks01
      @CoyoteWorks01  5 лет назад +1
