    Butter knives would not have a serrated edge. Those are probably steak knives, especially in the package they're in. People usually purchase steak knives separately from their everyday silverware.

    Your Father's Mustache was a restaurant, the August girl figurine from 60's or early 70's, there was one for each month and the brown jar with the white plastic pouring lid was for maple syrup.

    Hey precious!! I am soooooo envious still at the prices in your area at the estate, yard and rummage sales!!! You are extremely lucky. Also the great vintage items that are available are mind blowing to me. I would love to take a mini vacation to your area just to thrift and go to yard sales LOL. My friends think I am crazy because I take my vacations and plan trips to flea markets and then go to the yard and estate sales in that area while they are spending thousands to cruise on a ship or go to Europe. LOL

      Hey... now to be this lucky I had to arrive at the rummage sale 40 minutes early and sit inside an entry corridor with 10 other people who smelled funny. I have a vacation in October to Disney World and unfortunately it is on property and we'll not have a rental or way to leave DW, otherwise I would do the same. It sort of can hijack any vacation lol. I agree. I took a look at your eBay store and could not believe your prices compared to that of others. It would serve me better to go to my own antique mall or salvation army store to buy similar things. Having worked at an antique mall as well as having a booth, I know vendors overprice because they must have periodice sales to clear inventory that doesn't sell. Perhaps that's the way you operate.

    I have one of those silverware trays in my kitchen right now, in turquoise. I love it. Great haul! You find the best glasses. And I think highball is the right word for the short glasses, it's what I have always called them.

    • @RealNiftyVintage
      @RealNiftyVintage  6 лет назад

      I have done lots of digging and highball is for the taller glasses used for cocktails. The shorter glasses are known as rocks glasses or old fashioned glasses. Here is a great chart of all types of drinking glasses with their names! imgur.com/QqGpaPW

      Oh, thank goodness you've put this to rest! That's right, rocks glasses. I remember that now. I would be a bad bartender!

  • @debbieomi
    @debbieomi 6 лет назад +2

    I'm not sure where others in the thread get that those shorter glasses are highballs. They are on the rocks or rocks glasses and the taller ones would be highball. By definition- A highball glass is a glass tumbler used to serve 'tall' cocktails and other mixed drinks that contain a large proportion of a non-alcoholic mixer, and are poured over ice. I was also a bartender for years and any "mixed" drink ie Jack and Coke, Screwdriver, etc were served in a highball glass- ice, booze, mix. Cant do that in those stubby glasses. lol Now, at times, someone would order a mixed drink "short" and we had another size glass, same circumference as the highball just about an inch, inch and a half shorter.

    • @RealNiftyVintage
      @RealNiftyVintage  6 лет назад +2

      Finally some sense lol! I finally googled for my self and when you search highball; "A highball glass is taller than an Old Fashioned glass, and shorter and wider than a Collins glass." THEN I searched "Old Fashioned Glass; "The Old Fashioned glass or rocks glass is a short tumbler used for serving spirits, such as whisky, with ice cubes ("on the rocks"). It is also normally used to serve certain cocktails, such as the Old Fashioned, from which it receives its name." Thanks for encouraging me to double check this lol. It felt weird when she said this, but I just took her at her word and everyone else agreed. Thanks for watching!

    The cheese slicer IS from Norway. The dog figurine is a terrier---maybe an Airedale Terrier. I believe the Danish knives are really pronounced as "Mode" and not "Mod" and they look to be regular tableknives (just a redesigned modern version of a tableknife). The handles on the knives, cheese slicer & can opener are most likely teak wood.

    Schnauzers are grey. That's an Airedale Terrier.

    I may be wrong but I think that dog is more like a wire hair terrier not a schnauzer. You might check it out.

      You are correct! I EVEN looked up dog breeds ahead of time and typed in "dogs similar to schnauzer" into google with no mention of that. Dumb google, dumb me lol.

    Fish forks, melamine, bakelite, Anchor Hocking, Pyrex, all products of the 1950 thru 1970 era. The danish style knives are steak knives from the 70s era when that type of decor was popular.
    For the cake lid, find a pretty glass plate to pair with it to sell for more money. The lid is aluminium, probably made by Alcoa or Reynolds. Use Bartenders Friend on a damp dishcloth to clean it going in circles with the "the grain". Rinse well, then polish with a dry cloth. Same with anything stainless like pots n pans or stainless steel sinks. NEVER ever clean aluminum or stainless against the grain.
    As to dishwasher damage on glasses, you might try denture cleaning tablets. The "lemon" in dishwasher soap supposedly is responsible for glass clouding as well as stripping the glaze off china.
    The aluminum cocktail shaker by Mirrow is nice, I have a similar one that says Alcoa, the company my father worked for 50 years.
    The Homer Laughlin dinner set is beautiful, but needs to be handwashed. If put in dishwasher, the gold edge will eventually disappear. And the flowers represent dogwood blooms.
    You really made a nice haul!
    The Cash Box you showed at the end is still used in some circles. One compartment each for coins, one for bills ... Usually $1, then putting checks and large denomination bills under the lift out tray. The same way a cash register works. But in today's world I guess no one knows what "cash" is!!

      Rubbermaid for the organizer. I was thinking it was Tupperware but guess not! Thanks for watching!

      Real Nifty Vintage my first guess was Tupperware too! We had one of those in my childhood home that I had completely forgotten about so this was a nice memory that came flooding back
