We are building an off grid homestead on a remote island in southeast Alaska. Our goal is to become more self sufficient and self reliant buy growing our food, raising our own food and though hunting and fishing.
We put videos out every Sunday on RUclips to bring you a little slice of Alaska.

I'm figured that the guy who dropped your anchor really knew what he was doing. Very interesting to see the hook-up to his landing craft. Not his first rodeo. Thank goodness the weather was in your favor. Take care.
He’s dropped anchors in the deep parts of the ocean. Said it took 8 minutes one time for an a chore to hit boat. That’s crazy🤯
Hilarious! Back scratcher makes an appearance! Then the laugh to seal the deal! 😂😂😂❤❤❤ Thank you!
I thought you’d like it. 😂
@@AnAlaskaHomestead loved it! Thank yall for everything! Stay safe!
@@bwcok7947 you too
Looks like you guys are getting some nice spring weather. That anchor should be plenty for your boat, the biggest problem to look out for will be the line chaffing on the bottom and wear on shackles. We had to do yearly inspections on our rigging for bouys in the CG. Stay safe and see you soon.
Yeah there are a couple of divers that make the rounds here every summer. We will hire one to keep up on it. I put that little orange buoy 20’ from the bottom to keep the line wrapping around the anchor. Hopefully it works. Looking forward to the visit.
That anchor is quite the hunk of iron. Anxious to see the video of how it handled the wind. Thanks.
It’s 1000lbs, it’s not going anywhere, ever.
Ha it didn’t move
Thanks Brian, I am finally understanding a little bit what you are trying to do with the anchor. At first I thought that the anchor was for the boat itself, and thinking that wow that anchor is way too big for your new boat, but now I understand, I hope that get the results that you are seeking....Stay safe and enjoy your week You two!
Hey Frederick, that’s what my dad said. That anchor is too big for your boat😂 I’ll have to do a follow up video, lots of questions about this new system.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead I can't wait and Thanks!
Very interesting, good to watch people who really know what they are doing! Even with the water ballast, she was listing quite a bit. Take care, folks🇺🇸🇺🇸
They added a second tank off camera and she was still leaning😂
Alaskan ingenuity. Brilliant!
Thank you
I’m glad you got your mooring anchor in before the winds were able to steal your boat. It wouldn’t have been fun trying to find it if your boat anchor didn’t hold. Have a great week and thanks for sharing !
Thank you Mary. Hope you have a great week too.
Thanks for sharing Brian. Hope everything goes well. Take care. Say hi to Diana. See you next week✌️🇺🇸❤️
Thank you Charlene
Wow really didnt know how big that anchor is. Love the back scratcher seeing i dont have long arms 😃. Blessings to you and the family. 😊🇺🇲
Once they picked it with the crane I said to myself, “That thing is ridiculously huge”.😂
Hope the system works out for you. Seems like it will. Enjoy your Sunday B!
I think so.
That is going to be so nice.
Very interesting thanks for your super video footage of this Big old Anchor drop I no it is no Question it will work great.
Yeah I think it will do the trick😂
I'd call that a BIG dump!
Happy to see it in place!
Cheers!
😂 yea indeed.
Interesting to see how things like that are done. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes, Deb
Thank you
Looks like this one will work! Keep us posted. Stay safe!
Thank you guys. Take care.
Nice scenery of the area. Be safe.
Thank you
Awesome set, the second time anyways...lol 😂😅 We used to use engine blocks filled with concrete, environmentally cleaned of course. Love the back scratcher stowed away there, within easy reach. Love ya'll ❤️
ditto
Lots of old engine blocks on the bottom of the ocean. This should last until I’m dead and gone.
@AnAlaskaHomestead Well sir, hopefully that'll be 40 or 50 years..
@@AnAlaskaHomestead yep :)
@@russellwatters5891 that would be nice.
Cool beans! It's been beautiful here on the Kenai as well, snow is gone. Stay safe, and live free.
Glad you are getting some good weather.
I keep a back scratcher on my coffee table!
Ha got to have one near by😂
I think that boat captain has dropped a mooring or two in his day! 😉 Guess there are no "do overs" dropping that anchor! Bet you both are glad this project is done! 😁
He had a ton of experience. Very knowledgeable guy and a pleasure to work with.
From Cape Town South Africa greetings and thank you for your updates
Thanks for watching.
Man Brian!! That's one huge chuck of steel!!! It ought to do the job though!!
I definitely think so
Filming projects like this is a ton of extra planning and effort! We are building in SE and this kind of content is really great resource. Nice work
yes
Thank you

I think it is in its final resting place.
That was interesting. Glad it went well. 🙂👍
Thanks Jay.
And now I'm putting a back scratcher on my boat.
😂😂😂 every boat needs one
Awesome! Good luck
Thank you Marilyn.
well now that worked like clock work. 👍
Yes 🙌
Your boat looks fast and then we get to see the two main motors in the back! If ya ain't first your last! It looks like you cut the waves way better! I get the forward and reverse gear clicking noise when engaging mine also. Wish I knew how to keep from doing that!
A little bit of shake and bake😂
@@AnAlaskaHomestead ❤❤😜😜
Nice!!
:) Looking Again . Live Free ! :) hug Y2 :)
Big hugs 🤗
@@AnAlaskaHomestead TY ;)
same old story when ya get bigger things everything that goes along has to get bigger too and people sometimes forget that extra expense and get slapped with reality looks like all went well good for you
That’s the truth. I told my wife we will have to lay off on buying things for awhile. Although we are going to buy a small skiff. Should also make for a good video.
awesome
Good to know people with the right equipment to handle alaska size jobs
Amen to that.
Have you ever thought about jumping from a plane at 5000 feet and using your paratrooper skills to land in the chicken coop? That would be huge for the channel!
😂 no
Haaray the Anchor
mooring has been
dropped. Now let's
see if it going to

Thanks. ✌🏻👊🏼
I'm having a hard time right now mentally. I'm losing the will to want to be around. It's hard but watchin your videos helps so my sincere thanks to the both of you for sharing. ✌️🖕🏻🇺🇲🐾
Hang in there. I hope things get better for you.
Glad we can help shine some light your way. I’ve had a lot of army buddies struggle with depression. The best thing to do is seek help whether with friends or a professional. Unfortunately the darkness was too much for a couple, don’t let that be you. 👍
@AnAlaskaHomestead Thank you for your kindness. I have a medical team scheduled for a visit to get me back on some medication that I've been out of for a couple of years. Unfortunately, that home visit is not until June 5th (I'm agoraphobic). I'm going to call the organization tomorrow to see if they can prescribe something before that date. All it took to send me over the edge was my landlord tellin me this time next month I need to move into the newly remodeled apartment behind me (rent increase of $100 on disability) due to moisture problems in mine and another. My sister will pay for movers to take everything out one door and right into the next but I'm not handling the news very well. Anyway, thanks for caring. ✌️🇺🇲
@@ositagordita8550 No problem, we are all in this great big blue ball hurling through the universe together. Glad you got an appointment but some meds sooner would be ideal. Hopefully the new pad will be nice 👍
@AnAlaskaHomestead I have two cats that depend on me, one has to have an insulin shot 2x a day. I've got to try, at least for them. Y'all are way kind. Ttyl. ✌️🇺🇲

Hey Robert.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead Hi Bri , great new boat , all the best to you two .
@@robertlemoine3500 thank you, you too.
Lookin good 👍 How did it do with the wind?
I sure wish you would've just done a shot of the garden real quick 😂🤷🏼♀️
It did great. Garden update coming.
Right on, brother, looks good. How is the arm doing building those muscles back up? I'm so jealous of you leaving free!!
Arm is doing good, thanks.
Living free ha ha
Interesting
Very interesting 🧐
Do you plan on sound proofing your boat? That water slapping the sides would drive me nuts. lol Had that problem in my john boat used some out door carpeting to quiet it down.
The price you pay for having an aluminum boat😂 we do have some sound proofing stuff saved on Amazon. Mostly for the sleeping area.
That anchor is huge! So will you be able to keep the boat on the water and not have to bring on shore?
I think we could but we do plan on bringing a trailer over to be able to pull it out.
Question, this might have been covered already. How do you get out to your boat if it anchored that far off shore? I will have to go back through the videos and see if I can figure that out. Stay safe brother in arms. Always enjoy yalls videos.
Ropes and pulleys. 👍🏻
Don’t go back we’ve never had this type of set up. I’ll do a follow up video on it next week.
What is the mountain at 7:50? Reminds me of Mount Edgecumbe at Sitka.
I almost said what the name was, I’d been in big trouble. 😂
Maybe I missed it,it wouldn't be the first time, but does your boat have a name yet?
Yes and I need to order the decals for it. SEAKA👍
Cool Looks Like I'm First :)
Awesome 😎
😎
Anchors away Ryan and Dianne......
You betcha
👌🏻👍🏻❤🙏🏻 🇿🇦
How will you hook it to the boat?
I’ll have to do an update on that. Lots of questions on the new mooring.
Oh the things I have to look forward to when I get up there 🤦🏼♂️. Eh… more than worth it! Can’t get there soon enough! Look forward to running into you and saying hello!
Please do.
who do you talk to about placing a mooring? I have been thinking about doing this.
Any landing craft company should be able to drop a mooring set up for you. Check you laws also you may have to request permission to drop a permanent mooring.
😅
Where is your homestead?
I promised my wife I’d keep it private.
why don't you guys just build a dock to tie your boats to
Question how do you find a lot to build on where you guys are at I'm looking for a place to come there and start a life living the dream hunting fishing and freedom 😢away from this rat race
I hear you on wanting to leave the rat race. I think the. Eat way to do it is find the area you want to live in, SE, Matsu valley, Kenai etc. Then get a realtor that specializes in remote properties.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead I have tried three realtors and none want to deal with2 acres or less I just need enough to buildon that's onthe water or close enough to walk ya know i dont have a lot of do re me just a poor man trying to start life over at 65 but imas good once as I ever was
@@billdaniels3179 are you looking in SE? Most lots here are around 2 acres. Prices are more expensive here though.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead can I get for ten thousand anacre or is it more than that man expensive ain't the right word here
@@AnAlaskaHomestead yeah and imlooking in the Juneau area within twenty miles of town for doctors to keep up with heart meds and stuff
That anchor looks expensive! We just use 15' of 3" ships anchor chain as the weight. It sinks down into the sand or mud and is incredibly solid. Can adjust size and length of chain depending on size of boat.
