    The death of Bambi's mother is horrible of course, but the biggest shock I got was that poor bird that panicks and flies up to her death.
    I think people find Bambi 'boring' because it is not an action adventure or something like that. But it is not boring. It is just a movie with a slower flow following the life of one fawn and the flow of nature.

    The book is so much darker. Faline has a brother called Gobo who gets caught by the huntsman, but bc he’s a little fawn he is good to him and let’s him free when he’s an adult. Gobo tries to convince the other animals that the huntsman is good and kind if he loves someone. He wants to prove that by going out on the meadow to greet his „old friend“ and gets shot

    Bambi is an artistic masterpiece. It's often misunderstood because basically it throws out all the usual kid movie tropes. It's an emotional, symbolic kind of story. There's minimal dialogue but it works because the visuals and music tell the story.

    Originally they were going to show us a scene of Bambi seeing a man dead either from a shooting accident or from the fire - there's a scene in the book where his father shows him that. Throughout the book they've all seen 'Man' as an unstoppable entity so realising that 'Man' can die as they do and that they're not all-powerful is a big shock to him. There's a sketch of a man's hand holding onto a gun but it never got further than that - don't remember if it was deemed too dark or if they just couldn't make it come out right, either way they dropped it.

    This film as a piece of art is one of the most remarkable achievements of cinema. I’ve seen this movie so many times that I can pinpoint what section of the film is playing in another room just based on a sound or music cue. The background imagery of Tyrus Wong combined with the multi plane camera, the realistic movements of the characters, and the beautiful score make for one of my favorite memories.

    • @spazzyshortgirl23

    I always loved Bambi. It's important to note that this was in production at the same time as Dumbo, so there isn't really much of an overlap of character animators, sequence directors, or even background artists. My buddy on Twitter prefers Dumbo over this perhaps because of the freedom that all the animators had, they didn't have to rely on realism. But as far as Bambi is concerned, you have to give animators like Frank Thomas, Marc Davis and Ken O'Brien respect for drawing those lifelike deer and those cute little critters and to the directors David Hand and Perce Pearce. I love Dumbo too.

    Bambi most likely is 1 of the most important movies Disney has ever done. The death of Bambi's mother was so traumatic for a lot of people (not just kids, adults too(!) it sparked an intense interest in animal rights from that point on. Bambi was 1 of the first movies from Disney so dying parents wasn't that common, people were not used to it. Not just Bambi's mom, but also the way hunters/mankind is portrayed in this movie (even though we never see a human on screen, only the consequences of their actions and they are a foreboding presence).

    • @Mothobius
      @Mothobius 2 года назад

      I mean good hunters aren't like the ones in Bambi. Sometimes hunting is necessary for population. I do agree though many hunters are very disrespectful to nature. Good hunters respect the deer and don't do something like putting it's head on the wall.

    • @MissFlow
      @MissFlow 5 месяцев назад

      @@Mothobius That is absolutely true, real hunters aren't lunatics that just shoot on everything that moves. In my country they are very in tune with nature and respect it. Know exactly when to shoot what and how to do it.
      You will always have the trophy/sport hunters but we don't have much of those since penalty is high.
      Hunting during winter for ex. is prohibited, éspecially a doe with fawn. Deer on the run are also never to be shot, since hunters want to go for an instant kill therefor shooting in 'standstill' increases chances.
      Makes me have the horrible idea that Bambi's mom didn't die from the shot itself. She got injured and maybe even saw Bambi fleeing the scene, having a last sense of relief. Only to be found, finished off and collected by the hunter later.
      But there are many things wrong with the depiction of hunters in Bambi (dogs never chase, they only retrieve!) and I could go on. But this is a different time period so.

    • @Mothobius
      @Mothobius 5 месяцев назад

      @@MissFlow well this is the 1940s. Back then hunting wasn't really regulated. You could go into the woods and shoot 5 bears and it would probably not be of a big concern. Hunting was more like a free for all in older times.

    I think this is Disney's best movie they've made. Not my favorite, but definitely the best.
    I love the April showers song and how the chorus is in the place of the winds.
    And i think it really adds to the intensity of a scene when they include the shading on the characters, like when the Great Prince runs to warn the other deer, or when Bambi is fighting, the frolic through the meadow, and the run through the fire. Absolutely gorgeous!

  • @brianalambert1192
    @brianalambert1192 3 года назад +6

    The best way to describe this movie's plot is a coming of age story; it's just the life of this deer. The story is more told through the atmosphere, the music, the animation. For all intents and purposes, the death of Bambi's mom, both for Bambi and for the young audience this is aimed for, is the moment where we understand the harshness of life. That moment is a moment of maturity for so many children, even if they're messed up for life. There will still be happiness afterwards, an moments returning to that childhood wonder, but there is always that reality that could strike at any moments

    You have to find the strength to get up, every time, no matter how horrible it is you'll only have a chance of making it is if you get back you. That's what the story is. That scene when the Great Prince is telling him to get up - he knows that even though he wants to help him up he can't, his son has to learn to get up on his own and that if he never learns that he'll die. That's the story through the whole movie. In spite of his mothers death spring does come back. In spite of the fire the forest does start to grow back. In spite of the winter you have to learn to get by till it ends.

    Something i love about movies from this era is that they weren't afraid to show kids dark themes, and they were very up front about it.
    Makes accepting death easier for kids when its right there, also gives them empathy for animals like they would have if they were to watch farm animals be butchered.
    If you want something darker and more raw you could try the original watership down or the plague dogs. Two very old animated films in this sort of style. If you like reading you could also try to find a copy of the fox and the hound and read that. The novel is much much darker than the disney adaptation.

  • @wildguy4773
    @wildguy4773 7 месяцев назад +1

    Why would anyone say this movie is boring, actually it's one of the few movies that followed rules of realism and nature. Take a look at watership down for example, it's known to be very traumatic and unapropriate for children, but that's how rabbits live irl, that's the realism one movie with animals needs the most. Bambi and watership down did only had one goal in mind, survival. In bambi there wasn't an actual plot but rather an art image showing us the life of an average deer. It's an image of an young fawn learning from his mother and friends basic things like jumping, running and other things, you also face challanges and face threats, such threat from predators and especially man, you might loose your loved parents Durning way, but you must continue the path, don't look back, as Bambi did looked back at that happy innocent childhood going away and he must face harsh reality of nature and that you must go on and accept it, it does affect the mentality but it will go away, as Bambi was still innocent and happy when he became full grown buck, you can meet new friends and find a suitable and beautiful mate that will make your life more happy, but you must fight other suitors to earn that. Disasters might happen but you must get away from these, even if it means risking your life and in the end the cycle starts over new life comes, old life dies and so going on, the circle of life. You know in nature there are very very few to no happy endings, the life continues

    'Bambi' might not have a deep story, but the visuals, especially for the time they were made, were (and still are) gorgeous.
    Another noteworthy thing about the movie is that it was the first time that a woman was given screen credit as an animator. Retta Scott's storyboards of the dogs chasing Feline were so good that Walt gave her the job of animating that scene (this was back when women weren't hired as animators, mind). She is an important person in the animation industry, but it makes you wonder what she could have accomplished if she had the chance. :(

Normally all we see are does and fawns until it's either hunting season or late October early November for rutting season when the bucks show up because they know they're safe and no one can shoot at them. I stood and counted one day as a herd of about fourteen or fifteen does crossed the road not fifteen feet in front of me.

    I know a lot of artists don’t like Thomas Kinkade because they refer to a lot of his works as kitsch, but his painting “ Bambis first year” is stunning! (IMO). Check it out and let me know your opinion if you havent seen it yet.

    You said two things that my friends have said. And that have spurred me into making a Bambi analysis video. #1 Bambi is boring.....NO IT'S NOT!
    #2 Bambi has no plot.......YES IT DOES!
    They were saying these things to get me mad. But they obviously also believe it to some degree. So I'm writing the script that will change their minds.

    Welcome to the childhood of every older millennial and boomer, though I can only speak for millennials. Disney and every other animation company back then wanted to terrify children. 😉 We loved it, though. I highly recommend looking into animated movies of the 80s, especially ones from Don Bluth. You wanna talk about childhood nightmares and wonders all at the same time, jump right in, the water's terrifying. 😆🤘
    Some recommendations (not based purely on the horrifying aspects, but also the gorgeous animation): An American Tale, All Dogs Go To Heaven, The Land Before Time. You won't be disappointed.
    Also, for a small taste of millennial nostalgia that has horrifying moments, but is still a good movie: The Brave Little Toaster.

    Well yeah riding animals in that way is a good thing because it makes you feel empathy towards them and towards their struggles if somebody was trying to make a movie about animal abuse or about how hunting is bad or I don’t know about anything bad happening to animals like deforestation and overhunting and you give them a voice I mean it’s terrifying could you imagine minding your own business eating food with your Friends and family and then all of a sudden your mom‘s head explode right in front of you and then your other friend collapses on the floor dead bleeding from the neck through some sort of puncture hole but you have no idea what the hell happened you don’t see anybody there’s danger all around you but you don’t know where the hell it is that’s terrifying.

      @@Raindropfurry Not a hunter personally, but I was always told if they didn't hunt then you run the risk of overpopulation and the deers starving to death. It becomes a delicate balance and that's why there's seasons and limits to hunt. Plus not everyone hunts for a trophy sport some people just like deer meat. Its not my thing, but I don't have the resentment that some people have toward it especially since most people are meat eaters. i also want to point out that a lot of hunters are also conservationists because they understand the importance of nature. I still don't like seeing taxidermy or wasteful trophy hunting, but I have less issue as long as they don't waste their kill and don't over hunt.

    Something that you should know is that by the time there is snow on the ground Bambi would have been about half the size of his mother and his newborn spots would be gone. If Bambi was that small with snow he would have been coyote food.
