For anyone looking to practice this song or another challenging piece, I will share my process and hopefully it will help. It's not unique or special just what I use to practice but I'm sure others do something similar.
This will be a long post, but if you give it a try it might really help you tackle some of these tough songs, and ultimately improve as a pianist. If you don't care to read it, that is fine. Good luck!
    ---
First, understand that songs like these have parts (portions of the actual song), and then phases (the steps to perfecting each part.) The last 'part' is the entire song itself, and the last 'phase' is playing the whole thing masterfully.
The portion of La Campanella covered in this video can be considered the first part that we start with.
Within each part, there are four phases:
    1. Right hand mastery
    2. Left hand mastery
    3. Mastery of both hands together
    4. Musicality
As you become better at each phase, they will blend together seamlessly and you will be able to move on to the next part.
    RIGHT/LEFT HAND MASTERY:
Practice each hand separately with the intention of accurately hitting the correct notes. Speed and timing are not important yet, accuracy is important. You must learn what it feels like to properly hit the notes. Once you are comfortable hitting the notes at a slower speed, try playing them faster and with the correct timing. If you keep making mistakes, slow down and practice more until you correct them, then speed up again.
Focus on your right hand until you can play the notes accurately at the correct speed with the correct timing. Once you are comfortable with your right hand, repeat the process with your left hand. It is ok to swap between hands a little bit as you are learning them, but generally try to focus on mastering one at a time.
Additionally, employ physical techniques that make each hand easier to play. In La Campanella, it is crucial to have a relaxed wrist when playing the right hand. Otherwise you will strain yourself very quickly.
    MASTERY OF BOTH HANDS TOGETHER:
Many people struggle with this part. That is because they feel proficient with both hands independently, but when they try to combine them it all falls apart. That is nothing to be ashamed of, this is an entirely different journey.
As you did with each separate hand, slow the song down and just try to play both hands together accurately. If it is too difficult still, try another technique where you simplify one hand just to get a sense of proper alignment. Certain notes will align with each other as you play both hands, and these will serve as landmarks.
An example of this in the first part of La Campanella is instead of playing the right hand fully, simplify it into basic octaves. This way, you will be able to get a better idea of how to align the chords from the left hand with the notes from the right hand. Once you are comfortable with this, play both hands normally and try again. Start slow, get faster and stick to proper timing as you become more accurate.
    Accuracy > timing > speed
    MUSICALITY:
Musicality describes the 'feeling' or 'emotion' of the piece. Choosing when and how to emphasize or deemphasize specific notes adds an entirely new dimension to the piece. Many people play classical music like computers. They are very accurate, but there is lacking 'flow' or 'emotion.' Study master pianists' performances and observe how they play these pieces. You will learn different interpretations that will give you new ideas to try. Never be afraid to experiment for yourself - but you should have an idea of what the song's intention is. La Campanella is both a delicate and powerful piece of music, but within those rules there is a lot of room for self-expression.
    NEXT STEPS:
After completing all of the phases for the first part, move on to the next. Just as you combine the right and left hand, you will need to learn to combine each part. Learn the first part, then the second, then learn how to play them together seamlessly. Repeat this process for each part of the song. Once you have the complete picture, and once you have an idea of how to express yourself, you will be free to play the song wholly.
    REPETITION:
In order to play this song well, you must repeatedly play it over many hours. Some skill with the piano comes from natural talent, but most of it comes from the amount of hours you put into it. Think of how rewarding it will feel to play La Campanella from beginning to end, how you will amaze yourself as well as your family, friends and peers. Imagine yourself on a stage playing it in front of an audience. It is an incredible song and a challenge to all pianists who attempt to master it.
It will be hard, but don't give up. There is no better feeling than the feeling of practice paying off.
    Good luck my friends.
