Thank you for writing this book! It will fill an important void that I'm honestly surprised hadn't been filled already as this is something so needed. I very much appreciate you taking the time and doing for others the difficult and time-consuming task of becoming as well-read as you are. Thank you for reading the often dry, boring, difficult to get through and/or scholarly texts that are important sources to draw from in a book like this, and then condensing it down and/or pulling the relevant info and putting it in a much easier to consume form, but also in doing it without treating your audience like idiots. What a gift this book will be! Combined with your personal background in wicca + witchcraft, the fact that you've been in the community as long as you have, as well as your academic background and knowledge make you extremely well qualified to offer an informative, accurate, as well as thoughtful book. I pre-ordered before I even finished watching your video, and yours is the most highly anticipated book on my list of books to read this year! I really just can't wait to read it, October can't come fast enough!
Im here for Thorn in her Ronald Hutton bag. What you and Hutton are doing is great! Other Witches are concerned with defending moot points in an attempt to course correct issues that are too far gone. I am very proud of your work.
As a M.A. student of European Ethnology I really appreciate your neutral stance on the history of contemporary witchcraft (I will pre-order your book as soon as I have finished this comment!). So many claim continuity, ancient traditions and rituals without actually tracing back history, letting alone actual sources and evidence. The whole "this is an ancient tradition of the celts/germans/vikings etc." has rubbed me the wrong way for a long time. A practice or philosophy doesn't have to be centuries old to be helpful or enlightening. I personally fell for this narrative myself when I first started exploring witchcraft, so when I started my bachelors I was kind of "disenchanted". As you've said in one of your videos about Raven Grimassi's "What we knew in the night": Something doesn't have to be true to have Truth. And that statement really shifted my outlook on witchcraft as a whole. In short: I really love listening to your intelligent and thoughtful words and I'm really excited for your book! You are definitely one of the people on here I look up to!
"So many claim continuity, ancient traditions and rituals without actually tracing back history, letting alone actual sources and evidence." - That's a very euro-centric way of knowing. For shame.
No tradition survives multiple generations unchanged, especially without literary sources. That doesn't have anything to do with eurocentrism, that's a logical conclusion from historical research. I recommend the book 'The invention of tradition' by Eric Hobsbawn. @@gastronomist
@@dagdraamReliance on written sources and 'evidence' is a white/European way of knowing. Non-white/non-European/Indigenous people know through orally transmitted knowledge.
I wish more authors were as thoughtful as you, there are way too many books that regurgitate the same stuff. Looking forward to read it, even though here in continental Europe the situation might be very different.
This is great! I recall you mentioning this gap in Witchcraft/Wicca literature in a video about books a couple of years ago, and I've been thinking about it ever since. So happy you decided to fill that gap! Considering your open-minded and pragmatic attitude, and your combination of practical and theoretical experience, this book seems like the perfect fit for you. I'm really looking forward to reading it!
I know your books main purpose isn't to be an academic text, but as a college student who wants to study occult/religious topics academically, books like this keep me hopeful that I'll get to this level one day. Thanks!
Sounds so interesting! I love learning about the recent history and cultural evolution of contemporary witchcraft! Thank you for sharing this sneak peek!
Congratulations on your book. I’m a practitioner myself, but I’ll read it if I can get my hands on it. It sounds interesting and it makes witchcraft understood and accessible way. It’s hard to find good books about witchcraft. By the way, as a blind witch if it comes out in an audio format, I’ll definitely be reading it.
Hi Thorne. Im in the middle of reading The Witch’s Path and it is a fantastic read for those like me in a rut with a hectic life while trying to remain consistent in my practice. It really helped me to regroup my practice around a hectic mundane life. Ive been in functional freeze for 3 years after my fathers stroke and taken up care giving between working my new business. Needless to say your book is probably the most HONEST book about setting realistic expectations and goals to progress in ones practice. It was as if you wrote this for me during this part of my life. Im grateful for your blunt honesty and so happy I found you. Blessings to you and thanks again for your inspiration. Ill be looking out for other books you’ve released and are releasing in the future. Keep going girl! ❤❤
I can't wait to share this with people in my life who, I know, are interested in Wicca, but have about 028349839482 misconceptions about it lol. Excited for you to publish another amazing book :) Congrats on all your hard work!
I cannot fricken wait for this book! May it make its way into the hands of the uninformed, revealing some of the harm that is perpetuated in spirituality and witchcraft spaces. May it encourage the larger community to think critically, examine their influences, and consider in which direction they wish to continue.
Ms. Mooney this is a glowing overview of your kaleidoscopic new libro.🧐 It will be on my pre-order list since I’ve caught up on your other publications while unearthing from my cave. Deepest thanks for your scholarly attitude.
Thorn, I'm so thrilled I found you on RUclips a few years ago. You've been so great explaining things. I have your first 2 books and can't wait for this one. Thanks for all you've done for our community.
I loved that the piece you chose to read was on New Thought. New Thought got me into metaphysics and led me to becoming a witch. Just listening to the reading makes me want the book. Definitely going to pre-order!
I have just added your books to my wish list and I do believe that I might have either or two of them. And thank you for sharing this video. Stay safe and blessed be.
I very much so, look forward to reading it myself :-), but I admit, it would be nice to have something to give your friends as a recommendation. Most books I would have to recommend with all my notes to explain ( why, how, etc ). And I will admit I'm happy to see you over on RUclips more :-)
Is there anyone that could explain to me what it is that I participated in a dream? There were robbed individuals in white, red and black this was all done in silence at night, certain robbed individuals were being led by evidently an elder that was holding an ornate staff with carvings and such. Folks wearing their respective colored robes were led into a half circle. I was led to a half circle of people that were the white robed individuals I also saw that there were many other half circles of people in these robes. It was very pretty the grounds were well maintained with small torch lights throughout the grounds you can see everything clearly. At any rate, what kind of group is this? How did I get there? What does it mean, and how do I find these people or said group? 🤔

Thank you! Hutton’s endorsement was deeply meaningful to me personally. 💙

I am looking forward to having a book to give to the “outsiders” in my life. Thank you, Thorn!!
This is a book that needed to be written. Looking forward to reading it.

I’m a new Wiccan non practicing yet so this will help immensely
really looking forward to this book! And I do love the un-editted talking vibe of this and your last video. And love the little rainbow 🔮🌈😊
It’s definitely much less stressful and more natural feeling to just talk, so thank you for the encouragement!

I'm very excited for the October release date as well, because it means my pre-order of your book is scheduled to arrive on the day of my birthday 🤩
Hooray! And what a good time for a birthday!

I am looking forward for a French translation of your new book! I have your previous book in French ''Le chemin de la sorcière'', I love it 👌
As someone in the craft, I am really excited to share this with my partner, of course after reading it myself first 😅
it sounds amazing Thorn

Hi, Thorn!
I'm really glad that your books are available in Russia, will the new one be published here too?
I hope so! It’s up to the Russian publisher! 💙

Nooo don’t stop reading!
Will you be reading the audiobook?
No! Llewellyn doesn’t produce audiobooks-they’re licensed by third parties. So it won’t be me!
@@drawingKenaz Aw that's a shame. I missed your voice on The Witch's Path audio.
❤❤❤❤❤
This fills an important hole in the literature. I am excited to read it.
First!
Interesting Interesting 😊❤ lovely indeed!
I can't wait to read why you think witchcraft is a religion and then tell you why you're wrong. Very exciting.
