- In this episode of Dog Rescuers, a sweet and innocent Pitbull has been abused by its owner and a police raid to save it's life and bring justice is needed. RSPCA agents also discuss how a dogs behaviour isn't based just on the breed, but how it is treated.
Dogs are the nation's favorite pet, but seeing how they can be treated might make you think otherwise. Comedian Alan Davies takes us into the world of dog rescuers, where we follow the RSPCA officers who are tasked with investigating reports of cruelty and neglect when it comes to man's best friend.

How sad that a breed is banned. I believe it's not the breed, but the lack of appropriate care/training on the human side that a dog becomes a problem.
Agreed. I'm actually more worried about a small dog because owners of small dogs don't think they need as much training or that they don't have to continue the training for the life of the animal.
My son has a mixed breed dog with part pitbull and he is the sweetest dog! He's a mix blk lab, boxer and pitty. Staffordshire is what the DNA testing came back...not pitbull. I think they're the same thing 🤔
@@theresarasche3173 Staffordshire bull terriers and American pit bull terriers are NOT the same. Pit bulls are a much larger/heavier breed and there are other significant differences. Not that I believe for a moment that there is any such thing as a bad dog breed........just bad owners, but the differences between the 2 breeds are real, hence your son's dog testing as staffy not pit bull.

Incorrect. "Pit bull" does not exist as a breed except for the American Pit Bull Terrier which is only a modified Staffordshire Terrier and is not recognized as a breed anywhere outside the United States.
"Pit bull" refers to dogs that have a block-shaped head. That's about it.
I can't believe they kill the dog if it is a pit bull. They are the most loving, sweetest dog I've ever known. I fostered dogs for 6 yrs and I was one of the very few that would take a pit bull. I was bitten 5 times during and it was labs, terriers, German shepherd but never a pit bull.
Shame on the UK, but they kill them...They measure the dog's length, their head and feet, and tell are they pitbulls or not😢😭😭😭😭😭

I agree... I love Doc! I found he had a "bad" leg ligament and let my son understand... DOC did get medical treatment -- and he runs like the wind Now, after surgery and much love!!

Murdering those 3 innocent dogs for no reason is horrific, barbaric and disgusting, the UK should be ashamed of itself for this ridiculous injustice going on. Dogs should be evaluated as individual cases, not by this politically motivated prejudice. If I was that RSPCA officer, I would have given a warning rather than condemn those dogs to execution, I probably wouldn't make a good RSPCA officer.
"They're not gonna be beaten anymore." Death isn't the better option. The dogs are friendly, healthy and young. To put such a lovely animal to sleep isn't rescuing them. How is this law helping the animals?

It's not. Such laws only serve to stroke the egos of smug, sanctimonious morons.
I wish that one day that BS of a law is overturned permanently. And the people who created it are forced to apologize for their misguidance and unnecessary killings of innocent dogs. People are responsible for creating their dogs aggressive behaviors, not the dogs themselves.
It wasn’t meant to help the dogs. It was meant to help people.
Meanwhile, the number of dog bites serious enough to need treatment went up since the law went into effect, so it turns out the law doesn’t help people either. Even if it did, killing dogs based on appearance rather than temperament or behaviour is the laziest and most disgusting policy ever. We’ve seen that even dogs previously involved in dog fighting can be rehabilitated, and it’s not even hard to do.
It's about saving the two footed trash instead of saving the nanny bullies...🤬🤬🤬🤬
I'm glad this talks about pit bulls. I am upset that they are a banned breed. It isn't the dogs fault that some pitbulls are dangerous. It is the owners fault with the way they bring the dog up.
I used to have a Pitbull, she allowed my children to climb on her and sit in her chair with her. She saved my third child. He had stopped breathing in his sleep. She had gone into the bedroom then came racing out and showing she wanted me to follow her. She took me straight to the cot and jumped up which made me look at my son and notice him not breathing. If I ever get another dog it would be a Pitbull.
Anyway any breed of dog can be dangerous because of the way they are raised. Pitbulls are beautiful, kind and faithful.
The story of the 3 wonderful &healthy pitbulls put to sleep broke my heart. I'm italian and I know people who own pitbulls, they're such sweet and loving dogs, I never had any problems with them and I definitely love this breed. What happens to these poor creatures just basing on their looks is totally unfair and I cried when the lovely RPCA office wiped her tears and said she felt guilty cos all she wanted was taking those beautiful dogs out of misery but she couldn't. Her job isn't an easy one and she also has her scars to carry till the day she dies. All my respect to her and to all the people who rescue animals every day and work hard to get those creatures a better life.

I feel the same way, but y can't the rspca make arrangements to ship these dogs abroad? They had at least 6 mos. to do that. My heart is broken.

There have been VIDEOS of a singular pit bull ATTACKING police on horses - an entire group of mounted police. Not even a lion or tiger is that irrational or demented.
During the 1940s through 70s when dog fighting was popular dogs that ATTACKED their owners or their owners' relatives were bred like rabbits into the gene pool.
A lab, a terrier even a GSD isn't going to grab you & shake you around like a god damn ragdoll. You aren't going to have to smash a GSD in the head with a pipe to try & get it to release a victim as has happened with pit bulls. The story of the pitties broke my heart. How terrible that they're judged arbitrarily on their looks and not at all on their behavior. Also so sad that even the exempted dogs have to wear muzzles when they walk and can't socialize with other dogs. Most pitties are sweet, loving dogs. 😭

All the ones I have known were simply puppies in big bodies. They LOVE to sit in your lap %! . I have found them to be kind, funny, outgoing and loyal

This episode broke my heart. I can’t understand how someone can destroy a dog because the dog is a certain breed. I usually never cry when watching a program about dogs, but this just gutted me. They were beautiful and loving and I can see how it affected Inspector Hershey. I could tell that She was heartbroken 💔. I hope that they will change the law. Pit bulls are not always vicious. It’s not the dogs fault, it’s the person who owns and trains them.

@@rosameryrojas-delcerro1059 You would be surprised at how many countries would want them. In the United States there are Sanctuaries that are open to different breeds of dogs. They take them in and care for them. The breed of dog is not bad. It is the person who trains them to be mean and vicious. The authorities should do the same thing to the abusers, that they do to the dogs.

I'd trust a generic pittie over a generic shi-tzu any day! And it's far more common for a French bulldog or German shepherd to try to bite me than a pitbull (I work at a veterinarian clinic in Sweden).
Pitties are generally very loving, eager to please and have lots of energy, but are also often a bit insecure. So as long as they get an outlet for the energy and the proper training to handle their insecurities they're among my very favorite patients.
The only place I actually see pitties over represented with my own eyes is among the dogs actually happy to go to the vet and get examined on the table!
I have two pits and they adore the vets and my third pit who has passed also loved the vet outings!

@@rachierich8015 it's common for insecure dogs to react with aggression, they feel like they need to defend against a threat. So it's far more common that an aggressive dog is a nervous dog that hasn't learned how to cope (or has learned that lashing out makes the scary thing go away}, than a dog that was trained to fight.
Pitties are not the breed that requires training to be safe the most, they're just the most common among the breeds that require training to be safe to end up with owners who don't train their dogs.

@@zalexia27 indeed. But they're expensive and generally owned by rich people (who are also more likely to have the time and resources for at least half decent training) so they won't ever get banned.

I had a German Shepherd when I was a child. She was my only friend until grade 6 and I have had a few in my life. My brother raised champion Pit Bulls. Neither breed ever bit a person, they are both loving and sweet breeds, for those putting Shepherds down here. You don’t know what you are talking about so look at yourself first and ask why. My girl sat under my desk at school everyday. The kids couldn’t wait for recess and lunch to play with her but Shepherds are extremely smart. If any adult raised an arm near me she would hold their arm gently until they changed their mind and put it down. She loved jumping rope and playing ball with the kids. She always had a way of finding a sad child and bringing them out. She always asked me first. Once I saw the child she wanted to go to was afraid of dogs but my girl already knew that. She made her laugh by rolling a ball to her instead of approaching.I only ever had one other Shepherd that was close to how smart this dog was.
Pit Bulls and Staffies are not stupid dogs. They are loving, smart and protective too. People need training, not the dogs. They just need loving, food and Vet care. They all should be treated like family.

My pitbull was THE BEST dog I've owned....she loved children, water, and other dogs and was taken from me by cancer....at 7 it was a terrible loss.....I'd have another now but at 76 I'm just too old to handle a strong young puppy...:o)

I don’t understand breed specific bans. My brother was mauled to death by a dog but it wasn’t a pittie. It was an out of control Chow. They should never put down a dog just because it looks a certain way. It should be entirely based on an individual dog’s behavior and only on that.

My sister was mauled by a black lab. Bad owners who don’t train their dogs, abusive owners and terrible breeding are the causes for aggressive dogs.
My heart hurts for Inspector Hershey and all other Enforcement personel just trying to do the right thing for animals in need only to like she said basically sign their death papers. No dog is inherently 'bad' or 'aggressive'. My one neighbors' sheltie was more prone to biting anything that moved than my other neighbors' rottweiler who was a big baby scared of the freaking wind for goodness sake! And to have no real guidelines other than person to person 'hmm yeah that looks and measures like a certain breed' is mind-blowing. That law HAS to be changed! Killing animals indiscriminately based on breed prejudice and not per an individual animal temperament evaluation is appalling and so so cruel.
I am happy for the puppies that found good homes!
I have been attacked by a pit bull type and later on had my dog attacked by two of them in my front yard. HOWEVER. Both times I have seen their living conditions, owners and how they are treated. I do not blame the dogs or their breed at all. I blame the owners. Both times they were kept in small yards together ignored completely except to have food thrown at them. Never walked. Never socialised. Treated like wild animals penned up. I can't believe that in this day and age we decide on breed not behaviour or rehabilitation.

"Research has shown that BREED is not a predictor of risk aggressive beavior." So true. BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) has proven to be ineffective and has been repealed in certain areas, sadly not yet in England. BSL, fueled by media frenzy, fear and bias has been responsible for the destruction of healthy, loving PitBulls, regardless of behavior. ANY dog can be aggressive based on circumstance, taught behavior, lack of socialization or fear. Let's EDUCATE not DISCRIMINATE. If this disgusts you contact your legislative representative and demand repeal of BSL.

So sad. I've had them for 40 years. I started rescuing and fostering. They are lovely dogs when trained and treated well.
Because they are so sensitive, it can go bad very quickly. They just want to please. God bless them all. I'm crying.
I rescued a 7 week old Straty. also considered pit bulls. The most loving and very smart dog. I owned her for 19 years. Deuce was her name because of the two spots on her rump. I could not have lived with out her in my life. Deuce always in my ❤ heart and forever in my soul. Shame on some people.

They should have contacted Villalobos Rescue in America. It’s a pit bull specific rescue. She would have flown over there to pick up those beautiful Pitties herself. They do the show, ‘Pitbulls and parolees’. After watching their programming I’m convinced that Staffies are demonized. What I noticed is that they’re violent with one another, but never a human. Whatever conditions they find them in, no matter how abusive, the dogs always wagged their tails and were very friendly. Despite what they’d been thru. They were bred to fight one another, not attack people. I’d be more worried about rescuing a stressed out chihuahua. Those type dogs bite people, frequently. Not pitbulls!

Actually, she doesn’t fly at all. She was on some late show in New York and drove all the way from Louisiana there. And then there is an issue of shipping animals internationally. There’s a lot of paperwork, micro, chipping, quarantine, and other stuff that comes with it. You can’t just put them on a plane like you could’ve person.
This is so sad. It's the people that have them.
The blame for the 3 pitties being put down falls squarely on the abusive and callous owner. The well-known [albeit misguided] ban law has been in effect for nearly 30 years. To then own 3 generations of females with the exact same pit bull confirmation would have required intentional mating to a male of similar breed. Had either the pittie daughter and/or the granddaughter come from a non-pittie father their confirmation would most likely not have qualified as banned. I also have no doubt the pittie puppies from these 3 females were sold for profit.
This made me sick. I know pit bulls are just wonderful dogs! There are more bites from labs then any other dog breed. People need to be educated about the breed.

Labs are the most popular dogs, therefore the most bites.
Unfortunately pit bulls are responsible for more fatal bites. There are a lot of bad breeders who breed dogs indiscriminately without attention to temperament. Humans once again create the problem and animals get the blame.

Absolutely zero cruelty from the RSPCA........they have absolutely no say in it. The law has been in place a long time and it is NOT the RSPCA who assesses the dogs, nor is it the RSPCA who decides which dog should be put down under the conditions of that law. Perhaps you should watch the video again before you comment?

Watch Pittie Nation videos on RUclips. I was prejudiced against the breed before. These beautiful videos taught me that they are just awesome dogs, as all dogs are. Mark Twain - the more I know about people the more I love my dog.
I love Pittie Nation! I make a point of patting any pitties (after asking for permission) I see as I didn't realise many people cross the the street when they see them.

I had always heard how dangerous the pitbulls were. I rescued a pitbull mix 4 years ago and she is the most loving biggest baby! She loves to cuddle and never barks at people only at other animals. She thinks everyone she sees is supposed to pet her! It makes me so sad to see these 3 dogs put to sleep instead of rehoming them!! You can see how friendly they were.

To think that pit bulls are banned in the very place they were first bred hundreds of years ago is insane to me. This breed doesn’t deserve an ounce of the hate it gets.
The fact is that more people are bitten by small dogs rather than larger breeds. Peanut behaves the way most pit bulls act. They're extremely loyal and loving.
This was very sad about the pit bull girls. I’m in Australia. I’ve had a pit bull who lived happily with my other dogs. She was so obedient and friendly to everyone she met. My son has a pit bull same friendliness and obedience. Though I HAVE known extremely savage pit bulls. Then again we find extremely savage other breed dogs. Pitties are such sweet, loving babies. I'm wary around small dogs, - especially chihuahuas - not the bigger dogs. Give me a pittie, a rottie, a sheppard, or a cane corso any day above a little dog!

I prefer big dogs, but my issue was that people that are huge fans of very large guarding breeds are often folks who want them to be vicious so they can show off. My favorite mastiff is the Cane Corsonand when I look at RUclips videos, so many of them are some dude showing off their vicious dog, snapping and growling unnecessarily. 😢 Such beautiful dogs who can be mannerly while still being protective.
This was by far the hardest episode to watch due to the Pit Bulls. I want to give rescuer Hershey a hug, poor woman. I think I would be crying as well if i was in her situation.
Pit bulls are such affectionate dogs. They love children and make excellent pets. I can't understand why the laws have not been updated. A dog will behave aggressively if he is trained to be aggressive and that goes for any dog breed.

Peanut wears a muzzle custom made for specific breeds from Bumas. These muzzles are quite expencive, BUT the dog is able to pant, drink water and get treats, because this muzzle does not restrict the jaws. I once googled these muzzles and one made specifically for my Kangal cross would cost 240 Euro.

The question is what can WE do to change the legislation. I dont live in the UK but would be happy to support a cause that concentrated on that!
I think the laws against pitbulls are vicious and unjustified. All guard dogs need extra training to not be overprotective. Instead put in laws for more training instead of killing them.
This is criminal! Labeling these dogs is wrong they deserve a chance to life they are so loving.

I'm glad the vet was sympathetic to how the 3 dogs where feeling at the time and it's sad they where in kennels for 6 months until the conclusion was made them to be pts even though they didn't pose a risk to anyone, they where good dogs

My niece has two pit bulls and they are beautiful. Both are males, one is named Redd the other is Blue. I'm not afraid of them though Blue is more friendly than Redd who hangs back. Those pit bulls were beautiful and I can understand how that raspca officer felt. She saved them from an abusive owner only to have them put down. I used to watch Cesar Milan and so I know to walk into my niece's house like I owned it and not look at her dogs. But Blue was all over me wagging his tail and loved being petted and talked to. Redd was stand offish but he didn't scare me. I love dogs and live with 3 mixed breeds, they are different sizes, 2 boys and a girl. They are also older dogs, the girl is 16, one boy is 14 the other boy is 9. I love them and I'm not a youngster either. God bless.

The law needs to change. No dog is born aggressive. They are abused to be aggressive because humans think it makes themselves look tougher. Put the people down, not the dogs. If those dogs had been given to responsible people instead of destroyed, they could've had wonderful, happy, loving lives.

Honestly hugging my amstaff nice and tight. I cant imagine banning just any dog that looks like a pitbull. Our amstaff is the most maternal, loving and gentle baby that exists. She loves children and cuddles. It's about how you raise, train and socialise the dog. Should power breeds have special regulations to make sure the right owners have them and they're in suitable conditions? Yes, but that's also for all dogs. Don't ban a breed, ban certain humans from owning that breed.

Canada allows pit bulls, for which I am so grateful! I have had the privilege and blessing of having many animals enrich my life, such as having a wolf, skunks, as a variety of dog breeds such as Shi-Tzu, Silky Yorkie, Husky, Malamute, Akita, mixed breeds, along with many, many other beautiful creatures my entire life! My parents raised me to love, respect, and have compassion for all living beings!
It is 2022! We know it is the PEOPLE who mistreat and raise pit bulls and other breeds that lead to horrific situations! If anyone is to be viewed as “aggressive” - it is those who mistreat them!
It’s ridiculous that we cannot even “get it together”, so as to stop destroying our planet, along with all other precious creatures within it!
Finally, I will end with this question: Are German Shepards to be banned simply because they are used to physically “take down” criminals when Law Enforcement “command” them to do it…since they were “trained” to do so??? I’m sure many Law Enforcement officials will state their opinion on this ridiculous, uncalled for view by those who SHOULD know better when they ban animals based on mere perception!!!
We have people who have a misperception and bias against people of any colour, religion, ethnicity, etc. The same individuals also need to be educated on those in the LGBTQ community, and others with gender inequality (women are still fighting for human rights in far too many countries)! It’s truly insane that human beings believe they have the right to mistreat and take a life, because we think we are a “superior” species, or merely because we have the power and strength do so. History of countless WARS…CRUELTY…and basic lack of COMPASSIONATE has brutally ended so many lives! When will such insanity stop???

I could not keep watching I own 2 pit bulls and they are the most loving, playful goofballs. They love everyone. Sadly the breed gets punished for bad, irresponsible and/or owners who want the dog to be a certain way.

It’s so cruel, dogs are what they’re raised to be, and pit bulls were not breed to fight, they were originally breed to be nannies and protectors for children. They are sweet, beautiful animals, and don’t deserve the reputation that people forced on them!
Should contact Pittbull rescues here in USA, most could possibly take them. Why KILL a dog just because of breed type,, JUST HORRIBLE
Pitbulls are great dogs and can be rehabilitated even if they've been fought! I have 1st hand experience with that!

I trust a pit bull besides a german shepherd. I won't donate to a place that must put pitties to death due to breed. Love your page but I'll donate to my country due to this law. Sad very sad.
I am speechless that the UK has gone back to the dark ages on this type of stereotyping. I sincerely hope that the RSPCA and other animal organisations in the UK are campaigning to get this Law changed. It's outrageous. I personally think these dogs look like Staffordshire Terriers so, through no fault of their own, these animals are being condemned to death because someone thinks they look dangerous without actually getting to know them. Any breed of dog can become aggressive depending on what it's human does with it. Considering how their owner was with them, it says a lot for their positive characters that Izzy, Lady and Diva were so well behaved. RIP you amazing girls.
I also cannot believe that the courts were so lenient with their owner.

Pit bulls are banned here too. The vet clinic I worked at thought it was such a stupid rule that we always just label them as Staffies and left it at that. Baffled that someone out there banned a breed of dog before they banned puppy mills

And my son had a PB puppy. I was scared, I did not trust, many emotions were involved -- BUT today my son's Pit is 3 years old --and I love him. When I come to visit... "DOC" Licks me SO much, very loving, gets his ball and lets me know he is ready to Fetch, and with no one else but me! I love Doc -- all that I learned in Calif. Was WRONG!! It depends how a dog is brought up... And some times a get a call: Gram -- DOC 8s missing you, he keeps going to front door and whines... "GRAMMM"

I always say that there's no such thing as a bad dog. There are dogs who suffer from anxiety, ptsd, and abuse. All of which are a result of things out of their control. It angers me that certain breeds are treated like this.

I had no idea that PitBulls are put down because they're considered a "dangerous breed". There is some truth to this breed but it is a "Case-by-case" basis to evaluate.
The three pitbulls had been at the RSPCA'S kennels for 6 months. Never showing any aggressive behaviour. They were lovely,friendly, Happy dogs. To euthenize them was wrong... The people who make those decisions were determined to Kill these dogs for no reason...
Reeducation on the pitbull breed is seriously needed. The views on them are seriously skewed and abhorrent. I happen to think that pits are an excellent breed. They're kindhearted, loving, and protective of the people that have them and also protective of their property. They're also very playful as seen in this video. People who choose to abuse, raise them for dog fighting, and other grotesque things should NOT be allowed to have animals PERIOD. What needs to change is the time frames as punishment. Owners found to've caused cruelty and maltreatment should NOT have animals anymore for the rest of their lives and charged more than the small fees which are a joke to me. True reeducation for the lawmakers are what's needed. Not more bans on this beautiful and loving breed.

Don't judge a book by it's cover. Pit bull are not born aggressive. Some pit bull are aggressive because people trained them to be aggressive.

Breed banning is ignorant and the RSPCA should do better
It's not up to the RSPCA. It's the literal law and the RSPCA have no legislative powers.
STAFFIE dogs were bred to be strong, intelligent, and protective of families. They are loving, loyal and silly. I hope Hershey knows that she did save that one dog, and it is better to go to sleep than be tortured. The person hurting the dog, would most likely torture others.
