    We (my wife and I) have been watching your videos for some time. Great videos! Lots of info, and you talk slow and clear, just wonderful! Portugal, a place that might interest you folks. Ease of getting residency, affordable, good health care, English spoken widely, etc. Most of your boxes can be checked there, I think. Never having been to Turkey, it might be good too.... except for perhaps the language difference??? Right now we are living in coastal southern California (3 years so far), yes... expensive... but kind of nice weather. We are retired and were world travelers until covid. Hopefully we will do lots more traveling in the future. We agree, Malaysia and Singapore are very nice, especially for great food. But Malaysia is now too expensive, after the recent update to MM2H, for long term. Great places to visit still. We were many months in both Malaysia and Singapore in the past.

      Thanks so much for this nice comment. We have had Portugal on our "Plan B" list. I visited there about 20 years ago but want to go back to check it out and have been watching some RUclips videos about Portugal. Oh, I grew up in Southern California and yeah the weather us fantastic, but definitely outside our price range. I hope you are able to get back to traveling soon.

    Malaysian government do not want low quality people and scammers from communist ruled country so we adjusted the requirements of MM2H, unfortunately, this impacted high quality people from Japan, HK and other countries who really love Malaysia.

    Shame how MM2H financial requirements changed so drastically. But you made a great choice - we know several people who got residency in Turkey and it is a relatively easy process. We loved Istanbul and it has so much to offer along with being a central location to travel anywhere in the world. Kadıköy is our favorite neighborhood and we couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else in Istanbul.

    My travel history is much like yours, having been to 40+ countries and spending ~1 month in each. I've been to both Turkey and Malaysia many times and, if you liked Malaysia then you will probably feel the same about Turkey. In addition to Istanbul, check out Izmir and Antalya. At age 61, I also no longer qualify for the MM2H program but am planning to apply for S-MM2H later this year. I hope to make Malaysia my home base and still visit Turkey, Albania, France and a few other countries in Europe and Asia. Looking forward to your future videos!

    I am retired engineer from the USA and as you said in Turkey I was able to check off all the boxes of living requirements to keep me happy. After 6 months of research I settled down in Kusadasi, Turkey. A city of 130,000 which balloons to over a million during the tourists season with over 700 cruise ships docking at it's port. Instead of listing all of it's attributes I will leave it up to you to research this marvelous wonderful place to live. Check it out, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

We have a longer-term lease but I know we’llbe branching out and trying to visit other places in Thailand such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai. OK, this is really weird. I'm looking at your wish list 5:00 which you say no one place can provide all. That's fair, but only depending on your perspective on each.
    I'm an even slower traveler moving around every 2-7 years mainly within the US. I'm in central Phoenix now researching my next move. Mostly considering outside the US as I've kind of run out of places in the US. Problem is central Phoenix is really hard to beat. IMO it actually does tick every box on your list. But some are going to be only my perspective. For example on affordability I bought a house here in 2008 during the crash, no mortgage. I retired 20 years ago at 45 and have had $0 income which means my healthcare is 100% covered as well as a smartphone and now home internet. My spend has averaged $600/mo for years...everything. Plus I remodeled my house so there's a studio apartment I live in and can rent out the main house for $2000/mo net. So too me this is super affordable. Moving to even SE Asia is going to be much more expensive for me.
    Safety...seems safe to me. I know the crime rate is higher than some countries but large areas of Phoenix is very safe imo.
    Weather...I like it. Even in summer I walk 2-4 a day. I dress for it. However I do like to garden and the summer limits me. But boy the sunshine is addictive.
    Walkability is top notch here in central Phoenix. I have a car but rarely used. I still have gas in the tank from before the big increase.
    Bugs are extremely uncommon where I live. A few miles away a friend has lots of scorpions but only seen when looked for. So the neighborhood matters.
    I'm a little bummed that I may have stumbled into the perfect place as far as you list goes. But yeah there are some cons...utopia doesn't indeed exist. But holy crap I've had a hard time finding a better place. And this was the last place in the US I ever wanted to live (which is why I moved here (I'm weird)).

    • @snailtravelers
      @snailtravelers  2 года назад

      We visited Phoenix and loved it. It was 106°F when we went but still felt comfortable enough. If we ever move back to the US we would seriously consider Phoenix.

    A great idea!! For the many reasons you’ve stated. The food is amazing and the people are chilled. I haven’t met a traveler who didn’t like Turkey and who didn’t love Istanbul. The southern and southwestern coastal cities are just right and are accustomed to foreigners which helps a lot. Finding and using an anchor city is really important to our psychological and to our emotional well-being. We think of a nomad is a linear act of going out in a continuous line. But in reality, nomads and the nomadic genes have to do with following the seasons which bring about the fruits, nuts, and herbs that we follow in inevitably a circular route back to familiar harvesting and hunting grounds. The Bedouins for instance don’t leave their continent…nor did European or Asian nomads. We conflate explorers with nomadic circular routes. You mentioned going to see the animals in Africa and then returning to Turkey. That’s it!! That’s a true nomad. You could time this with visa runs or with seasons or with currency fluctuations. Vi

    Turkey is the right choice in my opinion. If I am not mistaken their currency has been depreciating for quite some time. Which is good for u to buy a home. Im guessing with the exchange rate it will be really cheap for u guys to buy a home. It certainly is the one of the most if not the most developed amongst developing countries and its geography is just amazing. Its literally located in the middle of the world. Which is great for travellers like u guys. Plus, considering it is a mediterranean country, Im guessing the weather is perfect. One of the drawbacks of Malaysia is that the weather can be very hot most of the times.

They charge a different price or give you the wrong change.Occasional political instability is also a concern.

    I was wondering, you mentioned the weather yet you wanted to live in Malaysia? Isnt it 30+ degree and 85%+ humid there? I am planning to visite because I am also searching for my ideal place to live ^^ I tryed Thailand and Vietnam and many others. I am looking for a place that: 1) speaks medium or better english, almost no humidity and not above 27 degree Celsius. Any recommendations are welcome :)

    • @snailtravelers
      @snailtravelers  2 года назад +1

      Yes, Malaysia is hot, and that was one of the few negatives of the country for us. But English is very widely spoken in Malasyia so communication is super easy. The one place that comes to mind that has both mild weather AND some English spoken is Portugal. It's a little higher on the cost of living, but you also get what you pay for. Mexico also comes to mind because the weather is fantastic in the center of the country, and places like San Miguel de Allende and Chapala have a decent amount of English spoken. If you want to stay in Asia you could try some of the mountain towns for mild weather such as Cameron Highlands (Malaysia), Dalat (Vietnam) and Banguio (Philippines). Of those three we've only been to Cameron Highlands, which has a smaller population than the other two. I hope that helps.

    • @Haradeas
      @Haradeas 2 года назад

       @Snail Travelers Great answer and you confirmed what I already experienced so far in Portugal. :) Although I only went Lisbon, which was very steep in landscape. So I will look for a more flat part of the land. My next trip will be like you mentioned, going mountains in Malaysia and hope to find a sweet spot. I recommend Vietnam Da nang for a bit cooler and windy (which makes it a bit cooler) weather compared to the other parts of the country speaking from own experience. (but still to hot for me). For some reason there is basically no high humidity which is great compared with Thailand. Mexico and that location in Philippines also are on my list :D But i fear the English in the maintains in the Philippines will be very basic : / I think I will try Cameron Highlands, how was your experience population wise? More like a town? More touristy? More expensive?

    • @snailtravelers
      @snailtravelers  2 года назад +1

      @@Haradeas Thanks! Yes, Cameron Highlands is made up of a few smaller towns, and it's about 60-90 minutes to the nearest big city (Ipoh). Cameron Highlands gets very touristy on the weekends but is quieter during the week. If you like big city life then Cameron Highlands probably isn't the best choice. It is more expensive than the rest of Malaysia for short-term stays, but for long-term stays the price is a little more reasonable. Malaysia (especially Penang) is the place we miss the most. We also miss Chaing Mai (Thailand) a little, Oaxaca (Mexico) a little, and Montevideo (Uruguay) a little.

      Thanks for the info! I believe that it is required to buy property valued at RM600,000 or higher for our age category. Once we turn 50 years old the requirements for S-MM2H are easier. Thank you again.

    Wow. Turkey is safe for Americans now?

      The US State Department recommends against traveling to a few isolated provinces near the border with Syria, but the rest of the country is categorized as Level 2.

      Western and Southern Turkey is definitely safe for Americans and there are lots of expats in major cities like Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, etc...Maybe the only area to stay away from is the Eastern border with Syria.
