As far as exterior triggers go, this design seems to be the best. I think it's because the entire trigger actually moves with the drum head as it vibrates, as opposed to being fixed in place to the drum shell and having the trigger foam compress and expand with the head as it vibrates. That design works great for underside triggers that go inside the shell, but less so for exterior ones.
what ive done for a very long time and it works very well is put a piece of gorilla tape over top of it. I probably dont play as often as you do but didnt change the tape for over a year.
My DDrum Red Shot kick trigger has just been really inconsistent on my 22" kick. Just got one of these with an Amazon gift card refund for a mere $4!!! Going to glue it right on the head closer to the beater and see how it goes!
Pintech is hit or miss. I'm a fan of this trigger so I would call this one a hit. I actually put this trigger on a real cowbell I converted to a digital one and its works great. Though I didn't have to glue it on because the tape worked for it, but this is also an option if the sticky ever fails
Thanks for the videos, new e-kit person here. How much gorilla glue did you use on the kick drum? I am going to be using a RS5 on a 26" kick thru an alexis surge module (yea...not the greatest). Thanks!
Only one thing that i did not like about the 2 Ply Drum Tech 22 Inch Mesh Head the inner layer was very lose when you tune the outer layer perfect, So what i did was cut off the inner layer, Mesh head as it wasn't doing anything but soon as you thump the peddle it was flimsy, Now i have a 1 Ply, that Sounds better Really, going to be picking up that RS-5 Trigger Tuesday 3, 2024. I was thinking bout putting a Dab of Clear Silicone to hold it into place on the Mesh Screen.
I've noticed this on their 3 ply heads, but not the two ply. But it does make it difficult to use them on internal mounted triggers too because the loseness. For a kick trigger my current favorite is the 2box one amzn.to/3AJB1Mt
@@demonicsweaters I have a left over 22 inch bass drum head, that i want to convert into an Electronic Head, I think that it would be a good Custom Project Design, I have a friend who gave me an Alesis Command Bass kick and i am going to make an Electronic 22 inch Bass head out of the parts, that i want to convert into an Electronic Head, I have Subwoofer Speaker box Covering 2mm thick will need Acrylic see through Plate to cover the front of the head the covering will go on the inside, then cut out the center piece hole for that rubber piece and dis-Gard the rest as the trigger is i think built - in to it, then for the carpet covering you will need Automotive headliner Spray Non toxic glue so it can stick to the inner head.👍
@@demonicsweaters I found a new solution for Moon Gel , it is Clear Rubberized Silicone doesn't damage drum heads it works great and it is easy to peel off if need be.👍
Very informative, a few questions, are those drums dampened inside? They are just a small tama acoustic kit? how loud are they acoustically? Are the drums completely filled with some kind of dampening like pillows etc... to keep them quiet? And what drum sticks are those? Your playing is awesome. Great videos and thanks.
Thanks Thomas. Yes, it's a Tama Club-JAM Mini acoustic kit, but I have mesh heads. It's not loud, just sounds like a Roland V-drum kit. The only one I have stuffed is the kick, that's to help with the vibration and make more reliable triggering. The toms and snare have mesh heads on top and bottom which makes them very quiet. The sticks are Aquarian X-10s with the grips amzn.to/3mMSgC7. They're my favorite sticks and NEVER break!
OK for real can an RS five with all the extra stuff the “external drum trigger“, and I mean the more expensive one not simply the PA zero trigger and mounter made of plastic I’m talking about the one that comes with the quick clip and the metallic foam piece, anyway even Terry Bozio‘s glowing recommendation mention is they can be used on the outside of a shell instead of on top of a better head… Is this true or if I mistakenly thrown away my money on for these things? They’ve worked great but I have two auxiliary snares and that’s the only reason why… I need as much totally free space on my main snare as humanly possible and cannot afford the Roland or Yamaha clip Ons, for the rim, but I have read time and time again that this is possible but can’t find any evidence of it anywhere so far so please any help would be so so appreciated!
I Have the ddrum triggers they work great accept for the bass drum as where i'm getting a double thump instead of just a Single thump, any ideas to to fix this problem. i have all mesh heads.
make sure you've got a lot of stuffing in the kick to keep it from bouncing too much. Then try messing with your retrigger, threshold, and scan time settings.
@@demonicsweaters i have led strip around the inner shell i had a pillow in it but but big shadow on the bottom what would you think of for front bass echo as when you speak across the room and you here sound from the bass drum would Felt work to deaden that echo sound.
@@demonicsweaters oh about the bouncing to much should i loosen the it a bit 2 full turns on each in a star shape its bouncy. it's a Drum Tec 2 ply Mesh head
I HAD a ddrum redshot yrs back. I had the same issue UNTIL I put it as close to the bass pedal on the back head as possible. I tweaked the settings on my module after doing that. It was ok after that
I know this is a 2 yr old comment, but just in case anyone else is curious.. here's the answer.. I had some on low volume cymbals yrs back. I put gorilla tape over them. I used one for a splash on the splash low volume cymbal. And used one on a 18in low volume cymbal turned upside down for a china. 😂 It worked ok. The tape just became loose over time tho due to playing it and the weight of the cord itself.
that's sounds amazing on your kick Pintech Rs 5 I'm gonna give this a try they're are $23.00ea here in Canada

I'm not sure I'd say they're the best. They're okay for the price. The Redshots still greatly out perform them with my drums and module.

For a 22" kick, I would instead recommend a 2box trigger amzn.to/4eFULPG.

Love your videos, can you tell me what cymbals are you using in the background and where did you get them? thanks
The crashes and ride are Lemons (alibaba) and the hi hats are Roland VH-11 (craigslist)

Wow, do you have a v/ on this whole setup?
lots of bits and pieces throughout my channel. I'll be streaming today at 1:30pm ET if you wanna ask direct questions.
Just take the trigger off your drum when your not playing , and then the sponge may last longer.😉🤏🏻.......🧽🥁
